JTBC has shared another heartbreaking teaser for its upcoming drama “Lost.”

 

In the drama, Jeon Do Yeon will be starring as Boo Jung, a ghostwriter in her forties who feels as though she hasn’t amounted to anything. Ryu Jun Yeol will star as Kang Jae, a man struggling to make ends meet who is terrified of his unpromising future. When the two characters meet in the shadows, they embark on a journey of healing as they attempt to escape the darkness.

 

The newly released teaser shares a glimpse of Kang Jae’s unstable life. His voiceover states, “I work as someone who can be freely contacted by anyone at any time.” As someone who runs a service where employees act out whatever roles clients request, he is used to spending time with strangers. He masks his true identity and lives his life as someone’s family, friend, and lover.

 

Kang Jae confronts his parent and asks, “You can’t even give your son 300,000 won (approximately $261)? Money is love.” His cold words show his priority as he lives in harsh reality where money is everything.

 

The video also shows Kang Jae experiencing overwhelming moments. Sometimes, he’s in tears, and other times, he’s tugging on his hair in frustration. He candidly claims, “If I have to become poorer and poorer, I might become someone worse than I am now.” One mysterious female voice asks, “How much do I have to pay you? For today?” The clip ends with Kang Jae sighing deeply and lowering his head.

Born in 1963, Hur Jinho was first known as a film critic starting in 1987. Between 1992 and 1993, he dabbled in filmmaking, taking part in several short films in various capacities, including two films of his own, <Is love a sin?> (1992) and <For Scrap Iron> (1993). Hur worked in the directing team of Park Kwangsu and took part in the screenplay of <A Single Spark> (1995). His directing debut didn’t go unnoticed, as his drama <Christmas in August> (1998) became an instant classic, picked up Best New Director and Best Picture at the Blue Dragon Film Awards and was even remade in Japan. With <One Fine Spring Day> (2001), which carried on with the director’s resounding storytelling technique and display of controlled emotion that was the salient aspects of the director’s debut film, Hur received another Blue Dragon Award for Best Picture and cemented his position within the Korean industry as a capable director of melodramas. He extended his reach to Japan when his next film <April Snow>(2005), which starred Bae Yongjoon and Son Yejin,, became a box office hit on the archipelago. After <A Good Rain Knows> (2009), which cast Jung Woosung and Chinese actress Gao Yuanyuan. Hur was offered the opportunity to film an adaptation of <Dangerous Liaisons> in China, with a cast comprising Jang Donggun, Zhang Ziyi and Cecilia Cheung. Stepping away from the camera, Hur also served as the director of the Jecheon International Music and Film Festival between 2013 and 2019. In 2016 he returned to the director’s chair to make the Colonial Era drama <The Last Princess>, reuniting with his <April Snow> star Son Yejin. After directing the short film <Two Lights: Relumino> (2017) and the medium-length film <The Present> (2019), which was released on YouTube, he made the period court drama <Forbidden Dream> (2019), about King Sejong’s scientific ambitions for the Joseon Kingdom, starring Han Sukkyu and Choi Minshik. In 2021, he moved to television and co-directed the drama series <Lost>, starring Jeon Doyeon and Ryu Junyeol.

SEOUL, Aug. 4 (Yonhap) -- Winner of Cannes prize in 2007, Jeon Do-yeon, is joining cast with Ryu Jun-yeol for JTBC’s upcoming series, “Lost”, directed by Hur Jin-ho, set to be broadcast from Sep. 4. 

The series is a special drama for JTBC’s 10th anniversary. 

For the upcoming special series, JTBC rescheduled its current drama aired on Fridays-Saturdays, 11 p.m. to Saturdays-Sundays, 10:30 p.m.

“Lost” depicts the stories of Bu-jeong (Jeon Do-yeon), who lost purpose of life after failing to achieve anything and Kang-jae (Ryu Jun-yeol) who stands at the end of his youth feeling afraid he may become nothing. 

Jeon Do-yeon, winner of the Best Actress prize in 2007 Cannes Film Festival with “Secret Sunshine”, is returning to the small screen after 5 years from her last TV series, “The Good Wife” (2016). 

It is also the first TV series that director Hur is taking the megaphone for, as he has only directed films until now. Hur is well known for his melo drama films such as “One Fine Spring Day” (2001) and “Christmas in August” (1998).

JTBC’s 10th-anniversary special, Lost, will premiere on September 4th.

Since JTBC has been reorganizing the broadcasting schedules since September, the series will air at 10:30 PM instead of 11:30 PM, which is when the Friday-Saturday dramas usually start.

Lost is a story about Boo Jung, a lost woman who hasn’t accomplished anything yet, and Kang Jae, a young guy who is scared because he might not become anyone successful before his youth fades away.

Joining hands with One Fine Spring Day and Christmas in August director Huh Jin Ho, the starstudded cast featuring Jeon Do Yeon, who is making a long-awaited drama comeback in 5 years, and Ryu Jun Yeol are garnering huge attention.

The first main poster, released on July 28th, captures the intricate inner mind of Boo Jung and Kang Jae in a single cut. Boo Jung, looking as if she is going to burst into tears, tells how much she has lost and how much she fears losing, and Kang Jae’s deep and lonely eyes shows his anxiety and despair. The phrase on the poster, “Where are we now?” raises curiosity by showing the terror and futility of her and him roaming aimlessly in the middle of life.

Kang Jae perfectly portrays the dispirited Kang Jae, a 27-year-old man who is afraid of the future and wandering around without a specific goal in life. First, there’s Jung Soo (played by Park Byung Eun), Boo Jung’s husband and the head of the department store’s food department management team. He is a good son and sweet son-in-law, but he is slightly distant from his wife. Kim Hyo Jin will take the role of Jung Soo’s first love Kyung Eun. She is a woman who spends all day nursing her sick husband.

 

The video starts off with Kyung Eun breaking down in tears as she says, “My husband is not breathing.” Next, Boo Jung lands in the emergency room, and Jung Soo’s voiceover says, “Mom, to her, I’m a sinner.” The words “Where are we now?” hint that the four characters are going through confusing times.

 

The clip shows Jung Soo and Kyung Eun getting suspiciously closer. When Kyung Eun asks Jung Soo how Boo Jung is doing, he seems uncomfortable and responds vaguely with, “You want to know if she’s doing well?” On top of that, Kang Jae suddenly yanks on Boo Jung’s arm so that they won’t be caught by Jung Soo. “Lost” is about the stories of average people who realize they haven’t become anything throughout their lives and try their best to see the spotlight. Jeon Do Yeon stars as Boo Jung, a ghostwriter in her 40s who feels lost and as if she hasn’t been able to amount to anything. Ryu Jun Yeol stars as Kang Jae, a man who runs a service where employees act out whatever roles clients request. Although he is striving to overcome poverty, he becomes afraid of himself out of the fear that he won’t be able to become anything.

The newly released teaser shares a glimpse of how Kang Jae and Boo Jung become entangled in each other’s lives. In the beginning of the clip, Boo Jung is visibly upset at Ah Ran, an actress who is also her client. It appears as if Boo Jung is going to stop being her ghost writer and get revenge against her instead.

The two women’s war of nerves summon Kang Jae. Ah Ran seeks a way to stop Boo Jung, who is like a ticking time bomb that will expose all her secrets, and her mysterious helper hires Kang Jae to take care of the matter. Kang Jae demands, “So what exactly do you want me to do?” The man replies, “Everything bad,” causing Kang Jae to become filled with complicated emotions.
