I’ve just read the writing by Orsuliya & dangermousies on the 2 good things that Daddy Wang has done in his life which were: he married Awu to XQ and kill aunt Xu. Their perspective is that Auntie Xu is not only meddling in with Awu& XQ’s life and was doing so with daddy Wang & Jinruo (with the death of daddy Wang’s old concubine). That was quite an interesting perspective as I sometimes got annoyed with auntie Xu and how she misjudged XQ with the whole contraceptive médecine saga and then blew things out of of proportion with Wang Su. Then she interrupted Awu and XQ’s discussion in the last few episodes when Awu was about to say something important to XQ and she butted in by saying it is her mother’s death anniversary soon and needs going to x’Ian temple to clean up. I do like auntie Xu but not having someone breathing on Awu’s neck every time LOL.

i would like to ask about a comment from daddy Wang when he said to Wang Su or his right hand man in the Ep 62 that he was wrong about XQ’s character. Does he mean that XQ is a much tougher man, not easily swayed, nor easily corrupted than he thought he would? Or does he mean that XQ is a loving, loyal man to Awu and his daughter is fully supporting her husband? Your thoughts would be much appreciated?

Yes even I read their posts about aunt Xu. And I agree with them. I totally understood why Xu would want to interfere with the abortion medicine. Even we were shocked at what XQ was doing in spite of knowing the whole story so for her to meddle felt natural. But even after things cleared up after that Xu didn't give up and kept poking her abnormally long nose everywhere. First she spied on XQ meeting the children (yes she does ask Pang Gui to not spy on XQ I know but then she shouldn't have told it to Awu if she was so against it), then again in these last episodes where she stops Awu from telling XQ the whole truth. And if you have such a good network lady use it to spy FOR the right people instead of spying ON them! If only she had spent her time spying on the likes of Jiner...or just everyone except XQ  Also hated how she treated Yuxiu when she was pregnant. Yuxiu is now Song's wife & XQ's sister & also just a very good person in general not deserving of such behaviour. Had Yuxiu not come to meet Awu to tell her the good news am sure Xu would have called her names again<_< That woman overstepped her boundaries multiple times & anyone other than XQ would have tossed her out long ago. And I agree about that point that Xu could have been the one who gossiped about Wang Lin & his concubine to the Empress which led to her death. This woman made up a story in her mind about the demi God XQ not wanting heirs from Awu because of her Wang blood...imagine what all she could have thought with a devil like Wang Lin:sweat_smile: Because in that world everyone had multiple wives/ concubines so the empress killing off just Wang Lin's only concubine did feel a bit odd. Maybe that story got cut. So while I cannot exactly cheer that Song killed Xu (looking at Jiner....kill her and I would throw a virtual party!) but I cannot feel sorry either. Good riddance for XQ though!

I think Wang Lin must have thought once XQ marries Awu, gets a taste of life in the capital, of being a Lord/ Prince & having so much authority he would change & once he sways from his ideals it would be easy to use him for his own plans...like he did with Song eventually. But that never happened. WL & XQ would have been a formidable pair. He just made the mistake of thinking XQ is like every other ordinary man:wub:

I totally agree with you on the ways in which she spied on XQ instead of Sujiner or Zitan or ED. Even in Ep 62-63, she still said to Awu that no matter what happens ED still loves Awu which I don’t agree with her view. For me, ED only loves her interests and does not care about others. How wrong auntie Xu was. I would have thought that with all that long experience being the maid of Awu’s mum living in the palace, witnessed all the schemings, cruelties being done to people she would have learnt a few lessons by protecting them from real dangers and not spying on XQ. However, I just thought perhaps the way in which Song/daddy Wang killed her was a bit cruel. Thanks for your perspective on daddy Wang on XQ’s character.

@Thuc Duyen @The.Lannister

After reading their insightful article on tumblr about aunt Xu I have some revelation loll.

In her defense, I think most of the nannies / maids of the palace are typically like that, feeding their mistress with their own point of view, judgement, suspiscion or even hatred.

In other words they can see what their mistress can't see, mostly about bad things also they spice it up before serving it to their mistress.

What I like about her, she is not mean / evil and she truly cares for Awu and her Mom. She may have witnessed how Wang Lin treated Jinrou and she always keeps her guard against Xiao Qi just to protect Awu (they only been married for two years?) I couldn't blame her 100% for that.

At the end it's maybe the best thing, Only Awu and Xiao Qi trust and rely on each other without anyone will meddle on their affairs.

@Jolie BijouxI understand where you are coming from. I do feel she is not switched on when it comes to real enemies but always suspicious of XQ which is annoying for me and I just feel bad for him. XQ has always been honest and supportive of Awu. One example when Awu told XQ that she would like to visit ED due to her state of health and then she said she would want to see another person at the palace without mentioning the name in eps 62 or 63. You could see his face was like are you going to see Zitan really ? But then he did not say anything as if well you are free to do whatever. Would Zitan have been as understanding as XQ should Awu have been married to Zitan, hmm I doubt it LOL.

I  agree with you it was annoying when she just told Wang Su a half piece of information and BAM, she apologized afterwards lol.

I really think aunt xu just doesnt want Awu to end up like her mom, which in my opinion, her life is so lonely and sad at the end.

She might also think if Awu really cant bear any children, Awu's life may have been lonelier than her mom which is totally wrong bc Xiao Qi's love isn't comparable to Wang Lin's.

Xiao Qi oh Xiao Qi ofc I will support him no matter what lol, whatever he does, always right in my eyes

I don't think she was going to see Zitan - she went to see her aunt and  Su Jin Er to confront her.  And when Zitan found out she was in the palace he went looking for her and they bumped into each other in the hallway.  The 2nd time she saw Zitan was also unplanned, her aunt told her Zitan planned the killing of XQ and then Awu storm into Zitan "office" and confronted him.

Yes, I am aware but it is the way Awu did not really say who when she told him about the other person. I could feel the tension in his eyes. Perhaps it is just me being sensitive and feeling sorry for him LOL.

Agree, XQ has my full support. He is just a great character and wish we have more episodes with them both. I can’t get enough of these two.

I just googled TPR as I wanted some nice photos of XQ. There are hardly any!!! Urrgghh:angry: It even has that bratty cousin in the results but XQ is like just 1-2 pics:crazy: What's wrong with this world!!

Also I read somewhere someone mentioned about wanting a korean remake of TPR & who would be the best actor to play XQ. I would love a korean remake but honestly cannot imagine anyone else other than ZYW playing XQ:wub: The writer suggested Gong Yoo which seemed like the best option out of few others whom I dont even remember now but I doubt anyone can match ZYW's XQ:blush:

I think General Song was really creepy in the end.  Giving Awu back her wedding hair piece, that she gave him in eps 8 to give to XQ (which he obviously didn't).  He has been carrying that around all this time to eps 68.  And he had to nerve to tell XQ in eps 18 when XQ leaves to fight the Duke Jianning, that Zitan still has feelings for Awu. :(

@The.Lannister Have you tried Weibo?

This is the official Weibo page for TRP and has some nice shots of XQ.

I would like to ask, would Wang Su be the regent for baby jing’er until he becomes an adult and be the emperor? Perhaps with Cawei’s help, they would raise baby jing’er?

  • Guest changed the title to [Mainland Chinese Drama 2021] The Rebel Princess上阳赋
  • 3 weeks later...

Hi Everyone!!!!!!! So I have always been on the hunt for the best C ancient drama, especially since TMOPB, which I only watch after it has been out quite a while.

After that I love watching C ancient drama, but for me TMOPB, Ashes of Love and The Untamed truly takes the royalty cake for my most beloved ancient drama. Because I cant stop re-watching them again and again and again, and that is what to me is a good drama, cause even after they are done, the drama makes me re-watching it again, even if it's for certain scenes or an episode.

I have started watching Love and Redemption on Netflix as a lot off people said it's a very good drama, but havent finished it yet at all. Not too captivated yet like The Rebel Princess did.

Same goes for a lot of completed or ongoing C drama's that seem interesting but I dont power through them like I did with TMOPB, AOL and TU.

And now I cant believe I found another drama that I am going to enjoy binge watching again and again and again for a long time :heart4:

I wasnt to keen on The Rebel Princess although knowing that ZZY was a part of it did prick my interest. I have to admit that my fault lies in thinking the ML wasnt that fascinating from the poster (guys I KNOWW PLEASE DONT HATE ME!!! HOW WRONG WAS I, THE 1ST EPISODE OF THE ML WON ME OVER JUST LIKE THAT) TMOPB was the same as well, I thought Mark wasnt all that much of an aura as the crown price (AGAIN I WAS PROVEN WRONG!!!) These Guys!!! They have really made me love older ML's more than the moe moe actor's that have baby faces  especially if they are the general, soldier, leader, prince character.

AND I WAS GLAD I TOOK A CHANCE!!!! Im now in episode 35, but trust me I keep on going back to watch the early episode, the first ML and FL meeting and the falling of the roof scene, cheesy but ughhh ZZY and ZY are just so freakin natural with their chemistry, AND THE EPS 18!!! THE DOOR OPENING, XQ APPEARING, AWU WAITING, AND THEIR GAZES, AND AWU RUNNING AND XQ OPENING HIS ARM AND I JUST AAAAAAAAAAH,  you guys have no idea how many times I replied that scene. And the background song!!! The flute!!! UGHHH

Seriously to me this was one of the best if not the best moments for XQ and Awu.

And yes the Wang father is so freakin complex, kudos to the actor, the father is ambitious, power hungry but not stupid. He is freakin smart. But there is no denying he loves his son and daughter and his wife from what i can see. But at the same time, he is a Wang, raised to use ppl and family as chess pieces.

As for the controversy of ZZY playing a young Awu, I dont mind much, cause I think only ZZY can bring that level of softness to a young Awu without overdoing it. I think the issue is that generally ppl know ZZY's age which is of course nearing 40's hence comes the criticism with it playing a 15 something character.

From the spoilers you guys have shared, it looks like I am in a for a longer ride, and lesser moments of our ML and FL. But thats ok, cause the drama is about the power struggle just like Nirvana In Fire so understand why there wont be too much lovey moments.

Anyways, I am off to power through this drama till the end!!! Will inform you guys what I think.

And also if anyone knows any drama like this, where the ML and FL chemistry is off the charts like the Rebel Princess and the storyline progression is awesome do share!!

So, I happen to have this forum parked on my browser for a long time and glad to visit it to read your posting. After it finished on March 15, I basically replayed my favorite episodes and now reading the novel! The initial resistance over older actors may be a moot point here where the caliber of acting surpassed everyone's expectations.  I loved the fact that the quality in cinematography, cgi, storytelling, design, music are all top notch. Moreover, the fighting scenes are so visceral and haunting.  Just like you and many of us, we fell for Xiao Qi right away.  I'm now a big fan of Zhou Yiwei.

Anyone knows what's the idea behind the letter that Xiao Qi sent to A'wu from the battlefield? Her name only, repeated many times? Do you think it's for security reasons, or..?

I do like the fact that the series opted for gender equality in the cut throat quest for power in ancient times.Even though fate had the last laugh as the conniving royal parents were blessed with a simpleton son,Zilong.

Seems to me he's not stupid - just does not show his wits in order to look less threatening.
