I watched episode 8. It was good. Now I understand why everyone was praising the snow ballet scene. Not only was it aesthetically stunning, but the meaning and reason behind it was so beautiful. Love the connection between CR and haraboji. We're beginning to see haraboji's impact on HB. I'm rooting for HB to find his peace as well. It's clear he's good underneath it all. It would be great if CR and HB can eventually become friends.

Seong Kwan is a physician so he’s quite used to taking care of pts, some are elderly too.  It’s a common practice to write things down for them, give printed handouts... so that patients can have information later after surgery.  Haraboji called before about his password, Seong Kwan was helping out.  I really like his character.  His deadpan sense of humor.  The thing about being a surgeon is that you have to be calm, collected.. you have to be logical and not affected by emotions to operate under pressure.  He’s a walking example of someone I know! LOL

I really love how Seong Kwan insists he was adopted given how crazy the rest of the siblings are. LOL

Thanks for clarifying this. I missed the important detail of haraboji calling SK beforehand. I like SK too. He is funny, including his relationship with Eun Ho. I hope he accomplishes his mission re: his patient. I am also looking forward to his documentary for his father.

I feel for halmoni.  She is a strong woman,  a fighter and a realist.  I think she will handle his disease well but the one moment that she sat at the table drinking after finding out about Seong Suk, I wanted to hug her.

Totally agree. When halmoni finds out, I think it will be initially heart-wrenching for her, but she will remain strong for haraboji. Re: SS, I think we sometimes don't realize that people may look fine on the surface, but they have their personal struggles that we can't easily see. For parents, I think they just want their kids to be happy and healthy. So, when halmoni learned of SS' struggle, you can see and feel her pain as a parent/mother. If SS really cannot have children, I hope her and her husband are able to find that their loving marriage is enough for each other.

Seo In Guk Captivates As Star Ballerino In “Navillera” Special Appearance

tvN’s “Navillera” has revealed stills of Seo In Guk from the upcoming episode!

Based on a popular webtoon of the same name, “Navillera” is about Shim Duk Chool (Park In Hwan), who begins ballet at the age of 70, and Lee Chae Rok (Song Kang), a 23-year-old ballerino who gets lost while chasing his dreams.

Seo In Guk gives off a casual appearance in the newly released stills with his parted hair and simple outfit. He takes on the part of Hwang Hee, a popular ballerino who captures the gazes of everyone in the studio with his fluid and graceful aura. Duk Chool in particular is said to grow bashful the moment he sees Hwang Hee, starstruck by his presence.

In another still Hwang Hee gets involved in a subtle battle of nerves with his junior Lee Chae Rok, who catches Hwang Hee as he leaves the studio to tell him something which makes his eyes narrow in suspicion (see top photo). Viewers are left wondering what will cause friction between the two ballerinos.

The drama’s producers commented, “Seo In Guk will be making a surprise appearance in episode 9 thanks to his relationship with director Han Dong Hwa. Including Park In Hwan, whom he worked with in the past, Seo In Guk is set to display a unique chemistry with all of the cast members. We would like to thank Seo In Guk for taking time out of his busy schedule to come.”

Wow, this drama is so heartbreaking. :heartbreak:  Some real strong onions around while I was watching ep 7 and 8. :criesariver:

I love haraboji's and Chae Rok's friendship. I love seeing how Chae Rok is slowly becoming a part of his family, and how haraboji assures Chae Rok that he can still mend his relationship with his father.

Haraboji's debut was beautiful and so was Chae Rok's dance in the park. :heartxoxo:

I am looking forward to seeing haraboji's youngest son be there for his father in the following episodes.

I am ready for the last 4 episodes, even though I know they will break my heart. :bawling:

I love the way CR’s friend sticks by him.  That’s how boys/men relate.  Using relevant analogies such as the positions for football.  It’s Haraboji’s story to tell, his lonely sojourn into the abyss.  All CR can do is to support him through it.

Se Jong is a good friend and one that actually played futbol for the love of futbol.  CR did it halfheartedly; no, he hated it due to his father's drive and coaching.  Ho Beom, maybe was talented but his love for the sport was never strong enough for him to overcome his past or insecurity and start again on his own.  Se Jong perhaps was not a standout player for his skills, like he is on the surface as a restaurant employee, but he is loyal and observant to others' feelings.  He is one of the first to realize what a positive impact DS has as a grandfatherly figure to CR who sorely needs a family.

I also like how he reminded CR to protect what is important for DS while he tries hard to reach his ballet dancing dream.  The next thing we see is CR doing exactly what he knows from reading the journal.  He danced to help haraboji recover his memories.

I know!  I think she made the ginseng wines (sorry, I don't know the correct Korean name) to help them conceive.  LOL She tries to help her dtr in her own way, knowing exactly how much Yeong-Il loves her wine.   I imagine what she would cook up when she finds out about DS' Alzheimer's.^^  You can tell DS/HN support their children in many ways that money cannot buy so I wonder if Seong-San realizes how important this kind of parental love is over his approach.

I understand Seong-San POV.  His focus on success is due to his own life growing up so he places financial independence as the solution to life's hardship and unhappiness.   In his mind, that is how you can avoid not being happy.   For him, you don't have the luxury or time to find what you want to do or who you want to be in the competitive business world.  What he is doing is helping his dtr avoiding the mistakes.  Eun Ho on the other hand, doesn't really know what she likes and who she wants to be for her life has always been planned out by her father.  I know Seong-San's parental love may seem a little self centered,  however I don't doubt that he does it out of love as well.  What he has not consider is that regrets and mistakes are ok, it's what we have to experience sooner or later.

Navillera: Episode 7

by Branwen

navillera07-00112.jpg

Our young ballerino shows his maturity and makes some hard decisions, while his aging student starts to get discouraged, and a tragic revelation confirms our fears.

EPISODE 7 RECAP

After getting Hae-nam’s distress call, Chae-rok rushes straight over to the aquarium to help. Security can’t find Deok-chul on the cameras and Chae-rok goes to search for him, leaving Hae-nam to wait at the information desk.

Meanwhile, Deok-chul is in a dark backroom, looking dazed. A tannoy announcement snaps him out of it and he realizes he left Hae-nam alone and doesn’t have his phone to call her. Luckily a staff member finds Deok-chul and escorts him back to the public area, and he heads back to the cafe. Hae-nam’s gone, but Chae-rok spots Deok-chul and tells him off for worrying them.

While they wait for Hae-nam, Deok-chul asks Chae-rok about his ankle and Chae-rok insists it’s fine. Hae-nam hits Deok-chul with her bag when she arrives, angry at him for wandering off and worrying her. She apologises to Chae-rok for distracting him when he’s supposed to be practicing for the competition.

As he gets into a cab, Deok-chul still looks bewildered and doesn’t seem to know what to say to Chae-rok, but Hae-nam gives him cab fare home as thanks for coming to help. Deok-chul watches Chae-rok as they drive away and remarks that he doesn’t seem well, but Hae-nam shrugs it off as concern for Deok-chul.

Later that evening, Chae-rok sits in a darkened practice room at the college thinking about what Seung-joo said to him about giving up on the competition. Meanwhile Deok-chul’s at home writing in his notebook, looking solemn.

Navillera: Episode 8

by lovepark

navillera08-00154.jpg

Our young ballerino learns the devasting truth about his elderly student and does his best to watch over him from a distance. Though all he can do is stay by his side and cheer him on, his presence is enough for our grandpa who still needs some time to gather his courage before revealing his illness to his family.

EPISODE 8 RECAP

Six months ago. Deok-chul struggled to accept his doctor’s diagnosis and asked him to test him again for dementia. Despite trying his best to remember, the results were the same, and the doctor advised Deok-chul to record all his activities in order to make it a habit.

In the park, Deok-chul stared at a family playing nearby and thought of his own parents. As memories of his life flashed by, he looked at pictures of his children and choked back tears. Tears streaming down his face, Deok-chul raised his head towards the clear, blue sky and sobbed for his parents to guide him.

This is gettin' too heavy and I'm not exactly in the right head space to keep watchin'.. will see I guess..

I cringe at gramp's son-in-law he's really a man child. On the other, love the message gramps gave Eun Ho. It's always nice to know someone has her interest. Which is more than I can say for her parents tsk.

Shocked gramp's son who's supposedly a doctor not notice his dad had Alzheimer's.. then again he's hardly home. I appreciate he's spending time with his dad more.

Also glad that this compels Chae Rok to reach out to his own dad. The end scene where gramps desperately clings on to his memories.. Oh gramps.. please hang in there. Gramps is lucky though he has a lot of support, not many people are lucky to have that even.

Forgot to add that Seo In Guk is smoking hot ha-ha! Don't think I've ever seen him look this good.

CR did well with how he communicated with Seung Gwan about haraboji’s condition. You can tell he was worried that he may be overstepping his boundaries as an “outsider”, but it's best to tell a family member. When CR told SG that he pretends he does not know in front of haraboji because he wants to make sure haraboji fulfills his ballet dreams, it was nice to see that SG felt it was the right thing to do too. I also liked how CR told SG that he won’t teach harboji half-heartedly because he knows haraboji wants to give it his all. At such a young age, CR shows so much maturity and heart.

As for SG, I really felt for him in this episode. He’s breaking down inside, but he’s keeping composed for his father. It can’t be easy to do as a doctor, especially having gone through an emotional experience with a patient. Out of his siblings, he feels he’s the one who was there the least for his father and is fearing regret. It’s not too late though. He’s been on a mission to create a documentary about his patient(s). It’s good that he’s able to find a new meaning/purpose of his documentary and shift the main character to be his father living out his dreams. A time that is dark can be beautiful as well. I hope SG will feel a sense of fulfillment and no regrets when he finishes it.

Based on the preview, the next episode is going be emotional. Also, does it look like it will be haraboji’s turn to dance in the snow?

Park In Hwan deserves an award, he is so good. Poor haraboji, I cry with him, he is afraid of Alzheimer's disease, and feels helpless. :tears:

Wholeheartedly agree! I think he and Song Kang were marvelous in portraying the characters.  Could really feel their emotions, acting was great! They deserve awards, this series too.  Sad that such a beautiful drama is severely underrated.

Yes, I am surprised that the thread is short. The drama is the best of the year, in my opinion.

I agree.  I have a feeling it’s because it wasn’t hyped?  Also the synopsis was very deceptive.  In fact I wasn’t planning on starting it at all thinking it was cheesy and unrealistic?  How wrong I was.  Thanks to @bedifferent for suggesting it and now it’s the 1 drama I look forward to every week.  It fills me with hope for a humanity that is kind.  Hope in a COVID filled world where social distancing has left us fearful of our neighbors.  The writer is really very good at portraying relationships.  They are all authentic and real.  Nothing is overdone.  It’s not cheesy?  Like how she portrayed the strained relationship between CR and his dad.  There were no dramatic scenes, it was awkward but it was how you would expect it to be.  A shared meal.  Stilted conversation.  A shared moment.  Evidence of concern by asking him to spend the night instead of showing him the door.  A promise of a future encounter (going to a bathhouse together).   So little said yet it was sufficient to give us the impression that it was a relationship on its way to healing and reconciliation.  She does this brilliantly in all the conversations.  It’s not easy to do because there are so many different characters with varied backgrounds and interests and stages in life.  Yet she’s woven it together beautifully.  It’s like watching a well choreographed dance.  Before I start, I always take out my box of tissues and then start it.  Knowing it will be a cry fest.  But it’s a good cry though?  In spite of the impending darkness that will descend (like the curtain at the end of a ballet), may Haraboji dance.  If only for once, let him soar.  He has touched so many in his life.  May their well wishes lift him where he falters, and may their applause ring on as he takes his final bow.  There will be many curtain calls I am sure.

You just made me cry .... Aside from the story, I am very sad that this heartrending and beautiful series is coming to an end.  Too beautiful yet too short...

I don't remember having ever felt this way about anything I've seen, how moving and heartwarming it is.

Again, so much admiration for Park In Hwan and Song Kang.  They were perfect for the role.

I enjoy the drama so much, which is rare. Most of the time I watch long series to pass time but with this drama, I watch with enjoyment. Park In Hwan is amazing, I watched him in Brilliant Heritage, he is so good. Song Kang makes a good pair, he is young enough to be his grandson. I find myself mesmerized, especially in the snow scene.

@nrllee waves, we met mainly in Add and Subtract :) I am happy to see you here.

Gramps dancing in snow for Chae Rok at end of ep. 10 was lovely. Almost all of gramps family now knows.

I hope in last 2 ep. Gramps get to soar as his final wish. Nice to see that bit of bonding time with Ho Beom. He really should stop moping and start living as per gramps advise. He's gettin' kind of annoying tbh LoL. Though I loved how he had the sense to text Chae Rok of gramps whereabouts.

I'm laughing at Chae Rok's indecisiveness. One moment he tells gramps to quit ballet, next moment he tells him to just do it! Quick thinking on Chae Rok too with the location tracking app.

I lost it when the oldest son hugged his father while tellin' him that he'd always be his "pillar"...:sad1:
