I've no clue what this drama means or the concept of the story but I'm here for my man; LMH. He's the reason I started watching kdramas so when he starts a project, I'm always there rooting for him from far :)

Not gonna lie, his previous project didn't live up to my expectations although I watched the entire drama for his sake. I could be in the minority but this man deserves better screenplay & a good story. Anyways I'm hoping for something better this time around *fingers crossed*

Is this based on the book? I'm super excited about this. I recently finished reading the novel! Brilliant! I haven't watched any of LMH's dramas since the epic 'Boys Over Flowers'. That was my first K-drama and since then there's no looking back.  I was just thinking if anyone could turn the novel into a movie and here it is! A wish fulfillment! Good luck to the team! Looking forward to some more news on the project.

Yes, it is based on the book. Apple TV bought the rights to addapt it to screen and some names, such as the script writer, has already been released. By now we know it's going to be 8 chapters, so it seems that the script will deviate a bit from the original story.

"Lee Min-ho will be the main character of the best-selling novel "Pachinko" by Korean-American writer Lee Min-jin among the works to be presented by Apple TV Plus," an entertainment industry source told Sports Chosun on Wednesday.

"Pachinko" is a novel that captures the miserable lives of Zainichi (Korean residents in Japan). It was nominated for the 2019 National Book Award and selected by many media outfits as the "Book of the Year." It is a novel written by Korean-American author Lee Min-jin, who lived in Tokyo for four years from 2007 and covered Korean residents in Japan, and is considered one of the best works of the times.

He has already gained popularity abroad due to SBS' "The Heirs," and recently completed SBS' "The King: Eternal Monarch," which was released worldwide through Netflix. He is expected to create synergy in collaboration with "Pachinko." U.S.Apple TV+ Produces Japanese colonial era Background Drama in collaboration with Lee Min-ho

Actor Lee Min-ho is positively considering participating as the main character of the local drama "Pachinko," which is produced by Apple TV Plus in the U.S. The decision was made by Apple TV Plus, which has a global distribution network, including the U.S., at a time when the groups BTS (BTS) and Black Pink dominated the U.S. Billboard charts and dominated the global pop market.

"Pachinko," in which Lee Min-ho participates, is a moving novel of the same name written by Korean-American writer Lee Min-jin. "Pachinko," which was also selected as the "Book of the Year" by the New York Times in 2017, drew attention in May last year when former U.S. President Barack Obama introduced it as an "captivating book" on his SNS account.

Lee will play the role of a Korean who has survived the past years, in a drama about the hard lives and identity of Korean immigrants who have moved to Japan and the United States since Japanese colonial era. The drama, which will be produced in eight episodes, is known to cast a large number of Asian actors, and is expected to draw attention from global fans with the addition of leading hallyu star Lee Min-ho.

Lee Min-ho is a global star with 17.3 million, 16.6 million and 3 million followers on Facebook, Instagram and Twitter accounts, respectively. Thanks to this popularity, his previous film "The King: Eternal Monarch" was introduced through Netflix and topped the weekly TV rankings in Korea, Hong Kong, and Malaysia.

The global entertainment market is paying attention to Korean stories as well as Hallyu stars. The Netflix drama "Kingdom," which drove the K-Zombie craze, was set in Joseon and it drew attention. The popularity of tvN's drama "Crash Landing on You," which depicts the situation of the only divided country in the world, also weighed on the analysis that it appealed to the global market in that it is a "Korean story."

While Korean companies, which are centered on the export industry, are struggling in the era of the global pandemic, Korean Wave content continues to grow. Officials say that while "Sell Korea" has accelerated to the point where foreigners have sold 2.5 trillion won worth of Korean stocks just in the past two months, Korean dramas and leading entertainment are attracting investment. Choi Jin-bong, a professor of journalism at Sungkonghoe University, said, "The world's expectations for Hallyu stars and Korean content have become a trend beyond mere interest, with Korean-language K-pop topping the Billboard charts."

This work is also adapted from the novel of the same name by the Korean-American writer Lee Min-jeong, describing the blood and tears of Koreans in a foreign land.

Actor Lee Min Ho may play the protagonist of the local TV series "Pachinko" produced by the American APPLE TV+. With Kpop’s idol BTS and Blackpink’s outstanding performance in the US billboards, Hallyu continues to have a strong influence globally. Details of Lee Min Ho's Comeback on Acting; Starring in the Pachinko Drama

EkyChVoXgAIWmSX?format=png&name=small

...

If Lee Min Ho accepts this offer, it will be the first time for the actor to work with Apple TV. In addition, the Pachinko drama, which focuses on real Korean people, will provide a perfectly suitable role for Lee Min Ho. An extraordinary synergy seems to be created between Lee Min Ho and Pachinko drama screenwriter, Soo Hugh, who is of Korean-American descent.

The news of the drama or television series adaptation of the Pachinko novel has been widely heard since 2019. The screenwriter, Soo Hugh, has several times revealed her plan to immediately visualize Min Jin Lee's work.

But for one reason or another, the continuation regarding the drama production Pachinko suddenly disappeared from the spotlight. However, Pachinko novel lovers can now anticipate that the drama version of Min Jin Lee's work will soon be realized by hooking Lee Min Ho as the main character.

At the time of writing of this article, MYM Entertainment, the agency that oversees Lee Min Ho, has not released an official statement regarding the participation of the actor born in 1987 to star in the drama Pachinko. Meanwhile, Lee Min Ho is still enjoying a period of rest after playing Lee Gon in the drama The King: Eternal Monarch (2020).

Apple TV drama 'Pachinko' and a pledge just by taking an audition...

I even write a pledge for an audition.

"Pachinko," a drama produced by Apple TV Plus in the U.S. starring actor Lee Min-ho, hold auditions with ironclad security.

"Pachinko" turns a novel of the same name written by Korean-American writer Lee Min-jin into a drama. It was selected as the "Book of the Year" by the New York Times in 2017 and was nominated for the 2019 National Book Award. Former U.S. President Barack Obama introduced the book on his SNS in May last year, drawing attention from readers around the world, including the U.S.

The audition process for "Pachinko" is interesting because it is different from the domestic drama system. Actors upload their videos in places designated by the production company. The video is about showcasing acting or introducing oneself. Also, the script is not revealed easily.

A pledge is written to audition. The pledge calls for keeping secrets, including participation in the auditions. There are not many cases in Korea where people write their vows to participate in auditions for dramas or movies. Only the BTS Universe drama series "Youth," which recently announced its casting, is known to have a pledge not to reveal itself after the casting is confirmed. Given that, it is very unusual for "Pachinko" to require for a pledge to be written just by participating in an audition.

"Pachinko" is a globally anticipated movie. It depicts the hard life and identity of Korean immigrants who later moved to Japan and the U.S. after the Japanese colonial era. The background of the era is the mid-1900s, and casting is also being conducted accordingly. The female protagonist is preferred to be a person without double eyelids. Lee Min-ho plays the male lead in the drama. It will be produced in eight episodes and will feature a number of actors from Asian countries, including Korea.
