My corner of Soompi

Lmangla

Recommended Posts

My Soompi Corner has returned

KDramas

Following Inspector Koo and Jirisan at the moment.  My dramalist is getting shorter and shorter (it seems I'm not the only one).  Mostly it's my curiousity that made me chose certain drama.  I for one do not care much about the drama rating before watching it.  As long as I like it then it is OK.  My mark currently is at the end of ep. 4, if I don't feel good about it then BYE....  :wow1:  I believe that everyone has her or his preference so it's okay if one does not have the same interest as others.

BTS

I'm happy that BTS members are finally going to see BTSARMYs in person in LA for a 4-day concert and other shows.  I wish them well and happy doing what they love to do.  Fighting!

Take care everyone.

Drama watching slowed down considerably these past two years, but has recently picked up again, and I found myself signing up on yet another streaming platform for KEH :sweatingbullets:

Bawled over Move to Heaven; goofily cheered every week to Racket Boys; rooted so hard for the Hankuk Law Squad in Law School despite rolling my eyes at the excessive theatrics in the courtroom; devastated and chilled by Ashin of the North's tragic fate and brutal payback. Moebius:The Veil was my introduction to that part of the espionage world - gripping, tightly paced and well-fleshed-out characters - so it was a letdown that The Veil itself failed to deliver for me, with too many loose ends and characters that I never really warmed to.

Jirisan is my current go-to drama, keeping me faithfully parked in front of the TV every Sat and Sun. It drew me in with the 1st episode, and has kept me invested despite some initial uneven delivery, rooting for the characters and praying that KEH will keep her promise of making it a healing drama. Just started Reflection of You, and it is a novelty to find a drama with such an array of unlikeable characters, including the main characters. Nonetheless, the premise is intriguing enough to keep me watching, so it will be interesting to see if my impressions change down the road.

The J-adaptation gave us Signal SP and movie this year, the SP being a notable remake of the Shin Da Hye case, while the movie is original material which brings us one step closer to closure but leaves the doors wide open for yet another story. Meanwhile, have been keeping a lookout for the announced Thai remake as well, though still no news when it will air. But more importantly, S2 please, KEH-nim :tears:

Last but not least, started revisiting Saimdang once more at my daughter's insistence (she never watched it before) and both of us were cheering like mad last night when she finally picked up the brush and painted the famous grape painting on the skirt. Brings back so many memories of the drama that triggered avid discussions on the thread in its heyday, and my own 11-month long labour of love, translating segments from the C-translated novel that differed from the drama.

Ello my lovelies!!!

In Drama land  I have been watching more C-Dramas than anything else. There hasn't been alot of K-Dramas that catch my eye. The Kings Affection is really only one of them that has really pulled me in. 2021 has been pretty much C-Dramas for me.

Real life has been hectic... Been dealing with a roommate who has been having some mental breakdown episodes which have kind of had our household turned up side down. Through it all though I keep my head up and try to focus on myself, and my hubby, and furrbabies. =3

Soompi is  one of my happy places where I can just come and read and enjoy others with like minds. :elated:

@YongZura⁷ Thank you very much for your kind words. So good to see you on the Jirisan thread too :) I see that you're watching Inspector Koo. Have not started it yet but will definitely give it a go because of LYA. Similarly, planning to watch Voice 4 but that's been put at the back burner for now until I finish Voice 3, whenever that may be. Too many dramas, too little time! :sweatingbullets:

@agenth thanks for tagging.

Below are the list that I am watching now :

I am enjoying these two weekends drama currently : Jirisan and Chimera.

For Fri and Sat drama :

Dr. Brain - a futuristic, thrilling and mysterious plot suits my cup of tea.

Happiness - as usual, a outbreak thriller drama, but the storyline is too unrealistic and found it too comical instead of thriller. (almost the same context as "sweet home" - outbreak occurred within the same apartment) I like the main couple lead, but their role development are not that I expect.....will watch it as entertainment.

Now We're Breaking Up - not really enjoying this drama at the moment, but I will continue to watch it just because of the fashion wear.

Inspector Koo - I dropped this drama after 2 EP, I love this lead actress Lee Young Ae because she has the most natural beauty female artist in my eyes. But I just can't enjoy the plots and her "funny" acting....May be will pick up some other time when I have more time.

I am waiting to watch "One Ordinary Day" and "Hellbound" :)

I've been watching k-movies than kdramas lately since it's shorter to watch. Last drama I've finished was Lovely Horribly and my ongoing drama was Welcome to Waikiki. So not into dramas that are currently airing. I always watch them a few months after they finish airing.

Hi Chingus :)

Real Life

I guess the word to use is "busy". I used to be fairly active on the Soompi drama threads a few years back. Unfortunately not at all anymore. This is why I try to stay connected by at least taking part in the Soompi events. Thank you to the EOs and fellow Soompi Chingus for making this fun!

:heartxoxo:

Drama Land

I have found it hard to complete a lot of  dramas this year. Not necessarily because I found them bad - just lost interest. Korean dramas I completed:

Mr Queen

Vincenzo

The Squid Game

My Roommate is Gumiho

Welcome to Waikiki

Doramas:

You, me and Bach - I found this quite enjoyable and realistic in terms of the friendship (this was beautifully done) and the violin performances; though I feel it could have done without the romance.

Meet Me After School - Morally, I do not agree with this drama. However I kept on watching because of the acting and the fact that in real life everyone was of legal age.

What I am currently watching:

The King's Affection - I am so far thoroughly enjoying this.

Happiness - Apt theme; waiting to see if this will keep me engaged.

A Gentleman and a Young Lady - first time in a long time I have enjoyed a Weekend Drama; it could have something to do with it having a Sound of Music theme :D

Just started on The Red Sleeve Cuff - so don't have much to say yet , but hoping it will be good!

I hope I can complete these ones at least

what have you been reading lately? looking for new books - i completely dropped the ball here...

I read Danielle Steel, Debbie Macomber, Anne Darling. It is categorized as "chick literature'.

There is a genre I tried lately called "Young Adults". It is good. Just Google it. I thought it would be for young people only, but it turned out to be fun reading, with some deeper meaning. Here is one of them

dramaland has been a bit slow for me this year. very few dramas catch my real interest. so I usually watch kdrama dailys which is quick and a bit of one eye watching. if you don't feel like it, just catch the preview and you know what is going on. hahahahha...

'red shoes' is a fun daily because we all hate the female lead. yea, it is not often where we all collectively hate the female lead who is supposed to do revenge but she is a crying mess who should see the therapist. she keeps ticking people off, giving lame apologies, crying and throwing tauntrums and is shocked when people are hurt by her actions. a pikachu face at every turn!

300px-Surprised_Pikachu_HD.jpg

"you mean actions have consequences?" - shocker!!!! eye roll. yea, that is the female lead in this drama....

the dramas that really swept me away this year:

~ 'bossam' -- I even learned to capture stills and upload! it has been ages since I fangirled over a romantic drama and I absolutely loved the characters, their maturity and their approach to life. this was one of those dramas where there is more at stake than 'will they/won't they'. instead, it was about finding a reason to live and soldier on and then fighting for the joy and love of your life. rather apt for the crazy pandemic times we have been through these two years. so it was lovely to see a beautiful ending where they walk away into the sunset..

bossam149.png

~ the thai lakorn "keun rub salub chata" was surprisingly addictive -- I kept yakking about it that even @partyon and @joccu joined me. it was a fun ride mostly because nothing happened the way you think it will. surprisingly, all the leads could act and you didn't have to shut your ears to screetchy voices masquerading as acting. there were some interesting dialogues and themes and the characters actually had depth. check it out if you want something to watch...

images?q=tbn:ANd9GcRXVUDBvoThwzS7OU7qKg8

otherwise, I keep watching random stuff on youtube that shows up on my feed. this was today. rather amusing. :D

Chimera has been interesting. Although I find the ML pretty dumb, I am more interested in the Chimera case, and Lee Hee Joon as the mysterious second lead has been the show stealer so far. Seeing him as neurosurgeon in this drama, I can't feel but think "Is this Mouse S2?"

now I feel like checking out the drama.

Real Life: My depression has been more front and center so I haven't really gotten much done this year. Been sleeping a lot. Just not feeling it much. But doing what I can to keep going.

I feel ya... However, a "break" is also necessary, and useful. Hope 2022 will be better for both of us ~!

And I also enjoyed Roommate a lot. The humor was quirky and cute :) Have fun watching!

i agree, ep 4 is a good mark to judge whether to drop it like it's hot. i never read up about ratings, as my mentality is different from Korean. Usually I check out the premiere and from then on I decide whether it is interesting or not!

Thanks for tagging @agenth! Hi everyone!

I barely dropped any of the dramas I watched, at the most one is on hold. I would continue seeing it as I appreciate much the acting and it's one of the genres I like.

You'd find me lurking more in the Cdrama section if not in the Soompi hangout threads. This year I've started a couple of threads too of stories turned drama. Added bonus that the leads are actors and actresses I can watch anytime even if their projects aren't fantasy or costume dramas. :)

Also, there are extra chapters to the novel of one of the drama threads you'll find me at. It's fun discussing our favourite characters in their new adventure - at the same time wishing that it can be turned to either a movie, a short drama, or at best, included in the next story should the series get a continuation (there are 4 more books in the line!) adapting the next novels into dramas.

Real life, there are good and happy moments, there are also bad and sad moments. It's a challenging time to have as normal a lifestyle as possible. Nonetheless, it's getting there - I'll be visiting a friend for the first time and will be having dinner with her tomorrow. It'll be 2 years since I last saw her, and our houses are just few kilometres away, LOL. Still erring on the safe side really before socialising. ^_^

Books, as always, tide me through.

Anyways, looking forward to more events, more food posts, and good times in the forum.

Of course I leave some time for this forum and for Novak's matches.

It always makes me happy when I see a new event on our forum.

I love the humor of our EO's.   :D

hahahah... there was no kiss! the PD stuck to his vision of old school saeguk. so they loved each other (no need to debate that) but no kisses, just lots of hugs!

I didnt particularly like the story, too much suffering and screaming.. :D yet Engin had so strong chemistry

with both FL's.

his scenes with a girl playing his daughter are so lovely..

Sancar manage to create a happy and peaceful family life and thats another reason I like the series.

It would start with how are you. ^_^

I'm quite grateful with social media, as more often than not it updates on what's going on with friends/family, at least on what are they posting about online. When seeing them in social settings, what I knew beforehand helps avoid the awkward moments of saying or asking something that might touch the nerve of the other person. :sweatingbullets:

Hey all!

Real life:  Still irritated with my boss for not telling me a meeting was canceled after I dressed up and yelled at people to drive faster! :triumph: My clue the meeting was canceled was seeing my boss in a t-shirt (instead of suit or something similar).  But every cloud has a silver lining, as they say.  I met my friend for dinner, since it didn't make sense to turnaround and drive home.  We haven't been friends for long, and among our group of friends, I know the least about her.

My escape from reality:  I have a recommendation for a J-drama, if anyone watches: You, Me and Bach.  Some romance, but more friendship between a 20yr, near 30 and a married woman in her 40s.    The funny thing is the final episode had the title as You, Me and Back!:tounge_wink:

K-dramas:  Waiting and waiting and waiting for Pachinko.  I think someone mentioned that they were trying to find time to read the book.  All bias aside, it is a very interesting read and a NY Times best seller.  I'm watching Dr Brain so I have somewhat of an idea what to expect when I watch Pachinko.  It could be totally different, but that's ok.  I'm also watching the Morning Show and Ted Lasso on Apple TV+.  I recommend both of those shows.  I watched Finch with Tom Hanks, but wasn't as impressed as the critics.  I digress.  Back to Kdramas:  I really like Inspector Koo.  I did, however, need to rewatch parts of it and now enjoy it much more.
