Guys. I am an emotional wreck and in tears.

My god. What a drama.

The ending kiss was CHEF'S KISS. The cinematography! I loved the background and lighting and framing and EVERYTHING. So much emotion in the kiss.

That being said, you know this is a kdrama when the leads only kiss fleetingly after 1 year and we don't even get a bed scene. Major eyeroll.

I'm torn about the CLOY-esque ending. I don't get why VC can't come back to Korea. Is Chayenzo going to be in a LDR forever? I really thought we were going to get a "homecoming" and him coming back to Korea permanently.

This, this, this. I know they're both good actors, but some of their scenes (esp the later ones) have made me raise my eyebrows are how genuine the emotions are.

It seems that I am of minority here who LOVED the ending to bits. It was a very satisfying ending for me. Major kudos to the writers for sticking to their guns. They allowed Vincenzo to embody a mafia

I couldn't agree more! That was a perfect kiss scene. From the very beginning, when the gallery director  started chanting for a kiss, you could see CY having that look of inner turmoil, but finally c

I hear you! I also don't think he's the same as Han Seung Hyeok, Choi Myung Hee, and Jang Han Seok, like, at all. Choi Myung Hee and Jang Han Seok were evil to the bone—I absolutely don't see Vincenzo

if you think about it, they've been given the best of both worlds LOL I dunno if it's just me, but I feel like most couples would jump at the chance to retain a certain degree of independence while also having the option to meet up whenever they want (the caveat being a long plane ride and a different time zone in the case of VC and CY, but you get the idea). both VC and CY have led lives of their own prior to meeting each other, and even though they share a profound love for each other, they'll undoubtedly continue to lead independent lives that don't hinge on being stuck to the hip. there's a lot of evil for VC to root out on his side of the world, and no doubt that CY will be busy kicking butt in court and handing criminals their due. not to mention that they definitely have the financial means for CY to make multiple trips across the globe should she desire. it's...a pretty amazing deal. :rubchin:

This this this!

They seriously seem like just any normal LDR couple who are mostly a plane ride away. CY and Vincenzo can spend a few months just chilling with each other at the island and spend the rest of the year kicking asses (one in court and one literally). It honestly seems like a convenient arrangement for them.

Also Does anyone realize the Inzaghi Vincenzo relationship foreshadowing with respect to Vincenzo and Korea. It starts with irritation to annoyance to disgruntled compromise and finally acceptance to ultimate allies. Just like how Vincenzo and Plaza people's trajectory falls. Inzaghi's absence relates to Vincenzo's absence from Korea. Inzaghi left in ep 18 - the episode from which Vincenzo's imminent departure has been foreshadowed. Inzaghi never came back just like Vincenzo!!

I love your interpretation of Ingazhi's presence! I was starting to miss Ingazhi and I thought we would see him one last time in today's episode. You resolved my longing sentiments for Ingazhi.

I also love @mystic62 mention of the crow's meaning.

PS. I'm sad Inzaghi was not in this episode but I'm happy that birds plays significant theme in this episode like the crow eating Han Seok corpse as a symbol being the messenger of death

from a "let's make sure Vincenzo doesn't go to prison because he technically did kill a lot of people" standpoint, they've been given the best of both worlds LOL plus, I dunno if it's just me, but I feel like most couples would jump at the chance to retain a certain degree of independence while also having the option to meet up whenever they want (the caveat being a long plane ride and a different time zone in the case of VC and CY, but you get the idea). a little distance never hurt nobody question mark? both VC and CY have led lives of their own prior to meeting each other, and even though they share a profound love for each other, they'll undoubtedly continue to lead independent lives that don't hinge on being stuck to the hip. there's a lot of evil for VC to root out on his side of the world, and no doubt that CY will be busy kicking butt in court and handing criminals their due. not to mention that they definitely have the financial means for CY to make multiple trips across the globe should she desire. it's...not the worst deal in the world. :rubchin:

No, it's not just you. I'm the same way. My ideal relationship is one where two people can be their independent selves and still be able to be together and spend time together whenever. I've never been the type to always want to be near the person I'm with personally. Distance can be a good thing. After all, distance makes the heart grow fonder, right?! The best relationships, in my opinion, are those where you're fine apart but you choose to be with each other but each person still has their own lives along with the life they have together. You don't have to give up your individuality when you're dating or in love with someone. You can still maintain your independence and love at the same time. It's honestly not hard.

I feel this. There is just something natural about them. I don't ship IRL people either, but I also would be one of the first people to jump on the SJK/YJB band wagon if they ever did get together IRL. From a respectful distance, of course.

I hope when the pandemic is over, the crew will finally have the luxury of traveling to Italy and other European countries to do the sequel.  Having an Asian being the head of the Mafia is a huge step of diversity for both cultures as Vincenzo explained in episode 11, he had to train hard everyday to survive as an Asian boy living under the Caucasians country.  I have seen the Italian viewers who watched the drama enjoy the references and the stereotypes of their traits and love them.  I'm sure the Vincenzo crew will have their set flocked with their fans there once the restrictions have lessen

This is precisely why I think that the ending we got today makes this a possibility. It would be a very interesting watch to witness a drama focusing on the inner-workings of a Mafia. Possibly tackle how an Asian adoptee worked himself to being an Italian Consigliere and ultimately becoming the boss. Of course, Cha-young has the perfect temperament to be the Mafia boss lady.

It seems that I am of minority here who LOVED the ending to bits. It was a very satisfying ending for me. Major kudos to the writers for sticking to their guns. They allowed Vincenzo to embody a mafia's murderous and tenacious ways to the very end. Vincenzo is probably one of the best-written anti-heroes I have seen in kdramas. He remained dark and merciless till the very end. We even got confirmation that he still continues to lead the same tenacious ways. This drama was never written to show a mafia's redemption arc or atonement. It was done to reiterate that the world can be so evil, that there would be instances where justice should be served mercilessly. With that in mind, Vincenzo is able to justify his existence as someone who uproots evil mercilessly, when the law is no longer sufficient to punish the monsters. As an audience, I feel so wrong rooting for a character like Vincenzo, but at the same time, this is what dramas are all about. We all have that inner monster in us and if I can allow that "monster" in me to be satisfied by vicariously living through a drama character, the writers have done their jobs. Thank you writers for not being cowards!

I totally agree you. I LOVED this episode and this ending!  it was well-written, brave and truly beyond my imagination as the cast were promising. Park Jae Bum truly deserves all the praise because this is how you write an anti-hero and his journey.  I actually had goosebumps during the last 15 minutes.  Just wow!:yay:

Quote

This drama was never written to show a mafia's redemption arc or atonement.

Quoting you again because the bolded needs to be said louder for everyone.  I think a lot of the audience mistakenly made that assumption at first (myself included) and so did Vincenzo for a brief time. However, It was made very clear during the talk with Mr Tak in the beginning of episode 16 that Vincenzo is always going to be villain and that is something Vincenzo himself had to learn to accept:

Mr Tak to Vincenzo in episode 16: "Leaving the past behind and becoming a new person.  Forget all that.  Do what you do best.  That's what you can do to help the wold"

Vincenzo can't become someone new or try to be someone he isn't.  He can use his villainous methods to help others but he is never going to be "good" in the traditional sense.  This is something Mr Hong, the senior monk, Cha Young and Mr Tak all recognised and accepted about him.

:fullofhearts:Vincenzo and Cha Young are now officially my favourite drama couple ever. I loved both of their strong, independent and unique characters and the way they handled the romance was bittersweet but perfect for these two true anti-heroes. So romantic and we finally got incredible kisses in character:wub:  "Villains never break up because they are tenacious even when they love"  He literally said he loves her and they will never break up. He has committed himself to her for life.  He has a whole island and a room waiting for her! Both Cha Young and Vincenzo are working and dispensing justice and helping others in their own ways but Vincenzo will come back at least once a year for a diplomatic event and she will go and visit him.  He was confessing to her in his own way throughout the episode.  He even compares them to the fated lovers in the Chilseok folk tale who were forced to live apart and could only meet each other once a year.  You can't get more romantic than that!

(The story of Chilseok from wikipedia)

Spoiler

"a heavenly king had a daughter called Jiknyeo (Hangul: 직녀, Hanja: 織女), who was a talented weaver. One day, when she looked out of the window while weaving, she saw a young man, a herder called Gyeonwu (Hangul: 견우, Hanja: 牽牛), just across the Milky Way, and fell in love with him; the father allowed the two to marry. Afterwards, Jiknyeo refused to weave clothes, and Gyeonwu did not take good care of the cows and sheep. The king grew furious, and ordered the couple to live separately, allowing them to meet only once a year. On the seventh day of the seventh month of each year, they were excited to meet each other, but could not cross the Milky Way. However, crows and magpies worked together to form a bridge across the Milky Way for the couple. After a while, their sadness returned, for they were forced to wait another year before meeting again. It is believed crows and magpies have no feathers on their heads because of the couple stepping on their heads. If it rains on that night, it is believed to be the couple's tears."

I was saddened by Han Seo's death but I was kind of expecting it given the Biblical allusions we have had from Han Seok with the Babel Tower. I think this was supposed to parallel with Cain & Abel. I said a few weeks ago that they were making him more and more likeable to the point that it made me nervous they were going to kill him and after his conversation with Vincenzo in episode 19. ..  At least he died doing good and sincerely helping his real (non-blood related) hyung:bawling:  Weirdly, Seung-hyuk's murder actually shocked me more. I was not expecting Han Seok to have him knifed on the court room steps and the press taking pictures as he lies there bleeding out:o

Cha Young stated yesterday that someone like Han Seok is never going to be punished by conventional justice methods and Han Seo states this episode that he wasn't punished when he murdered multiple people in middle school. He is someone who Vincenzo's type of brutal justice is needed for because the world is set up to protect people like him no matter how many people they hurt.  That's why it is satisfying to live vicariously through Vincenzo as he finished them off so cruelly in this episode. Myung Hee and Han Seok got what they deserved and I'm impressed the drama didn't shy away from their torturous endings.

I was surprised by the absence of Inzaghi this episode but nice to see he was mentioned by Vincenzo and Cha young when he was talking about the bird bridge to bring them together.

The ending credits were amazing and got me so hyped again!  What an incredible, thrilling and emotional and fun journey this drama was. Thank you to everyone in the thread for making watching this unforgettable drama such an unforgettable experience :heart1:

I wouldn't fall for them, but I'd definitely be "accidentally" messing up the scene over and over to keep kissing. lol.

My worse fear came true. Han Seo is gone. T_T I wanted him to live but I guess he was the only one who needed to leave and be Vincenzo's savior. He was Vincenzo's little soldier and I have grown to appreciate their relationship so much. I knew the watch his brother gave him would play a major part. Han Seok was not as clever as Han Seo even though he thought otherwise. Vincenzo's return to Korea may have brought death to his mom and Han Seo but to them, Vincenzo was their greatest happiness even for a short time. Its unforgettable the older-younger brother relationship they had.

Although I am happy Myung Hee and Han Seok died gruesome deaths, I would have preferred if they were humiliated by the public more. Bringing shame while being alive still, I think is more painful, like a hell on Earth.

Goodness, where do I start with Vincenzo and Hong Cha Young. They have gone through so much. Their love is platonic. I think their ending was as beautiful and mystical, as referenced in the drama: Jiknyeo and Gyeonwu. When they separated at the end, they watched each other from far away, it was as if they were saying farewell, each on the other end of their Milky Way. The magpies *in this case pigeons LOL* and crows made it happen by building the bridge for them to meet, we saw it by that beautiful kiss we have all waited for.

When Vincenzo said he was Vaisravana and how its explained later on made it so meaningful. This to me, solidifies Vincenzo as the ultimate antihero.

Hi everyone, silent lurker here.

Done watching the final episode. Overall, I like the story, how it didn't try to change Vin identify as a mafia ( I love gangsters or mafia story like The Godfather or Peaky Blinders, so while waiting Peaky Blinders season 6...) It's not a perfect kdrama, but it's okay.  I also like the end game for Han Seok and Myung Hee.

There are few things that I found them off (how Vin seemed always won, no severe injuries after fought with those many people and always looked neat and clean just a bit of blood and yeah that scene when Han Seo fought with Han Seok, why the heck was he just stay still there with Cha Young who wounded on the shoulder, he should have known she won't die soon because a shot on shoulder, but Han Seo, Vin went to Han Seo AFTER HE CALLED him when he's dying, after his sacrifice to help them. I found it unnatural for a mafia). But well I tried not to think much about it, focus on other things like the cinematography especially the CGI , all the unique characters (the people in that I forget the name building reminded me of Kungfu Hustle movie btw) and the overall story.

well, kudos to all the casts, writer, director and producer. It's a good ride.

The ending wasnt that good for many because we wanted that little boy Han Seo to live. Everyone have seen how he has lived and had wanted Vincenzo as a real brother ... When he died, the writers had to give him such a bad send off... and putting a dent on Vin's brutal mafia ways.

Vin wouldnt have been that slow to react and that shoulder wound wouldnt have killed CY... but his slow reactions could have killed all 3 of them, understanding how cruel Han seok was.

Despite having friends in intelligence and a genius IT specialist who can hijacked the monies that are being sent online, and created one of the most advanced safe boxes in the world, they couldnt get Vin a new identity? Sigh...

Vin should have stayed for more than a day, 2 days perhaps.... because the next day was his mom's death anniversary. He should give his offering and that night should have been spent *beautifully* with Chayong... a woman whom Vin mom was also greatful for helping her in many ways. :)

Again, Vin can be the head of his mafia family, but he should also bring Chayong along. As mentioned somewhere, Chayong had the sassiness to be a mafia ladyboss. People brought up CLOY ending, yes that was bad ending itself together with the King: Eternal Monarch... crossing dimensions until they are old with no hope for having children... what is the fun of that? He is a king with a duty to have children ... sigh..

Yes, he could. But they both have separate lives as well as their lives together. CY isn't ready to leave SK yet. They are two souls in one, but their lives do not revolve completely around each other. If/When they decide they fully want to be together, they will. But now is not that time. And they both know it. It's what I love about them. They understand each other and each other's boundaries and they do their best to stick on the right side of said boundaries.

Also, not every couple wants kids or needs kids. Kids aren't a must. Example, me. I don't want kids. I've known that since I was an early teen. But I wouldn't say my life isn't fun because I don't want kids. Same goes with couples. Sometimes a couple's love is enough for them, with or without kids.

I wonder if one the two pigeons we saw was Inzaghi without his blue band after the year skip.  It was as if it represents Vincenzo's calling he was looking for after coming back to his birth place and left after finding it.

I personally have mixed feelings about final episodes. To me there is no satisfaction watching torture scenes even those villains deserve it. It would be more gratifying in seeing them publicly humiliated consider how much they all was wanting to save faces.  V have brain to do it. Also having police after him as he is hiding on his island just show that he never gonna be totally in peace.

Publicly humiliating wouldn't do anything, but RickRoll'D them off more. They'd just keep killing. Torture is the only method honestly because jail/prison wasn't gonna hold them and just straight up killing them would have been too easy and way more than they deserved. They died how they lived.

As for peace, depends on your definition of it. Some people view peace as calm and everything is great. But others are more at peace when there is chaos going on around them. V definitely seems to be more of the later definition of peace.

I was thinking about the fact that he can not visit Korea when he want because he is on the police wanting list so he can not meet up with the family. Of course they could go visit him again, but that maybe put him in danger. So like the start of the drama when he left Italy because he was on the wanting list he now again on another wanting list. So my point is that because of him killing people he never gonna be in peace with his life.
