MBC has released a new teaser for the upcoming drama “Kairos”!

“Kairos” is a “time-crossing fantasy thriller” about the interconnected fates of Kim Seo Jin (Shin Sung Rok), a man who falls into despair after his daughter is kidnapped, and Han Ae Ri (Lee Se Young), a woman who is searching for her missing mother. From Kim Seo Jin’s perspective, Han Ae Ri is living exactly one month in the past—but after the two miraculously communicate from their different times, they set out on a thrilling quest to save their missing loved ones.

The teaser begins as Kim Seo Jin accepts a phone call in the pouring rain. The mysterious voice on the phone, presumed to be his daughter’s kidnapper, asks him ominously, “Kim Seo Jin, do you miss your daughter?” The scene cuts to Kim Seo Jin grabbing the collar of a suspect in an interrogation room as he demands to know where his daughter is.

Next, over a scene of Han Ae Ri smiling at a child, her voice says, “I saw her. The child named Da Bin.” Han Ae Ri’s and Kim Seo Jin’s voices then go back and forth as they confirm with each other that they are living in different months.

The tension in the teaser escalates as various clips of Han Ae Ri and Kim Seo Jin running desperately are interspersed between a caption that reads, “Two cases are connected between two times.” Kim Seo Jin is then surrounded by police who announce that he is under arrest as a murder suspect. Amidst a scene of her mother in the hospital, Han Ae Ri wails on the phone, “I’m from the future.” A caption that reads, “The one minute that will change everything,” flashes by as Han Ae Ri cries, “Please save my mother!” The teaser comes to a chilling end as a wound on Kim Seo Jin’s face disappears in an instant.

In the play, Nam Gyu-ri played the role of Kim Seo-jin's wife and violinist Kang Hyeon-chae. Kang Hyeon-chae is a person whose life changed overnight due to his father's failure in business, and he formed the family of his dreams with Kim Seo-jin, whom he met at a reception where he went to a part-time performance job by chance. Then, due to the disappearance of his only daughter, Dabin (played by Shim Hye-yeon), he said that he experienced another world collapse, adding to the curiosity of prospective viewers.

Nam Gyu-ri expressed her affection for the character, saying, "Hyeon-chae is attracted to the point that she has a clear maternal love for her child." Then, "Hyeon-chae is not guilty in everything. It is different to treat the world in a different way."

On the other hand, "After receiving the script, I was able to feel the charm of Lee Soo-hyun. All the characters felt alive and breathing, and I also wanted to draw a character unique and diverse," she praised the script and showed her acting passion. I raised my curiosity.

New teaser and stills for sci-fi thriller drama Kairos

by tineybeanie

ngr_kairo2.jpg

Upcoming MBC drama Kairos has dropped some fresh promo that delves a little more into the story. Shin Sung-rok (Vagabond) is featured prominently as the desperate dad who’ll do anything for the return of his daughter, and Lee Se-young (Memorist) is shown as a young woman whose mother is also in trouble.

The twist comes in with their timelines: Shin Sung-rok lives one month ahead of Lee Se-young, but somehow they’re able to communicate and help each other find their respective loved ones. The teaser begins with the kidnapper calling Shin Sung-rok, asking him whether he wants to see his daughter again. Shin Sung-rok’s desperation is palpable when he lunges at a potential suspect in the interrogation room. Missing signs show that his daughter, played by Shim Hye-yeon (Graceful Friends), disappeared on August 6.

His wife, played by Nam Gyuri (Different Dreams), collapses in disbelief and grief. Her character is a violinist who came from a well-to-do family. When her father’s business went bankrupt, she began working part-time performance gigs, and at one reception job, she met Shin Sung-rok and fell in love. When her daughter disappears, her entire world begins to crumble again.

Lee Se-young narrates that she saw Shin Sung-rok’s daughter, and their encounter in a convenience store is shown. Over the phone, Shin Sung-rok asks whether Lee Se-young is currently living in August, as a search party combs through the forest looking for his daughter. He tells her that he’s currently living one month ahead of her, while interspersed shots show her telling someone that her connection to the future is why she knows some unexplained evidence.

Copy reads, “Two timelines… two cases… that are connected,” while scenes of chase and pursuit are shown. Lee Se-young asks Shin Sung-rok what she can do to help. He’s eventually arrested by the police, on grounds of suspicion for his own daughter’s kidnapping. He shouts that he didn’t kill her.

At the hospital, Lee Se-young tearfully asks whether the unconscious woman receiving emergent care for cardiac arrest is her mother. More copy flashes onscreen saying: “The one minute… that could change everything.” Lee Se-young asks through the phone whether the person is from the future and asks that he save her mother. Lee Se-young’s mother faints as she comes out of a phone booth. Shin Sung-rok’s voiceover says that he won’t accept his fate, and the last scene shows how changing the timeline has mysteriously erased the scratches on his face.

Watch: “Kairos” Cast Introduce Their Characters And Praise Each Other

In new character introduction clips, the cast of “Kairos” discussed their roles and what it was like working with each other.

MBC’s “Kairos” is a time-crossing fantasy thriller about the interconnected fates of Kim Seo Jin (Shin Sung Rok), a man who falls into despair after his daughter is kidnapped, and Han Ae Ri (Lee Se Young), a woman who is searching for her missing mother. From Kim Seo Jin’s perspective, Han Ae Ri is living exactly one month in the past—but after the two miraculously communicate from their different times, they set out on a quest to save their missing loved ones.

Shin Sung Rok’s character Kim Seo Jin is the youngest director his construction company has ever had. The actor described his role saying, “Kim Seo Jin is a character who carries a lot of pain from his past. After following his dad to his workplace, he suffers a massive accident and as a result, becomes a completely different person. He only chases success and lives for the sole purpose of advancing. He never misses any opportunities and becomes a cold person who trusts numbers more than he trusts people.”

When Kim Seo Jin’s daughter Dabin is suddenly kidnapped, his happy life is overturned in just one moment. He decides to end his life, but then receives a surprising text at exactly 10:33 p.m. from an unknown number. It turns out to be Han Ae Ri, a stranger claiming he took her phone, asking for it back. Not knowing what’s going on, he sends her his daughter’s “missing” poster. Surprisingly, she claims to have seen his daughter, giving Kim Seo Jin a sliver of hope. When Han Ae Ri does not show up to their arranged meeting, the two get into an argument before realizing that they are somehow living exactly one month apart.

Lee Se Young described her character saying, “Han Ae Ri is a determined character, who works hard to save money even while studying for her Civil Service Examination. That’s because her mother, whom she loves most in the world, is suffering from heart disease.” Although she initially refuses to believe that the mysterious Kim Seo Jin is a man from the future, she has no choice but to beg him for help when her mother suddenly disappears.

Regarding Lee Se Young, Shin Sung Rok commented, “We’ve worked together on a project in the past and she was an actor who helped me a lot. I was happy when I heard Lee Se Young was cast.” He also talked about his chemistry with Ahn Bo Hyun sharing, “We match up well on a lot of different aspects, so we were able to give and take, creating a win-win chemistry.”

Ahn Bo Hyun plays Seo Do Kyun, Kim Seo Jin’s right-hand man at his construction company. To describe his character in one phrase, Ahn Bo Hyun shared, “Seo Do Kyun is a quick and smart subordinate.” Although he is loyal to Kim Seo Jin, a crack forms in his blind trust for his boss when Kim Seo Jin is investigated by the police after allegations of illegal material use. This leaves Seo Do Kyun disappointed, feeling betrayed by his mentor.

For those who have Kocowa and Viki, Kocowa released a special episode 1 that is 13 minutes long. I just finished watching it and it’s very informative on the plot. The actors also briefly speak about their roles.

This seems to be a very interesting drama. I like that the time difference between the past and present is one month so indeed Lee Se Young’s character can go meet Shin Sung Rok’s character a month earlier to convince him to change the future for his daughter. However, I’m not sure how his character will help save her mother although I did hear him tell her that he will save her life because in the future she ends up in prison.
