Y.Q. 573
Thanks to @lovesparklys and @Jillia for the discussion on the umbrella scene. Actually every umbrella scene reminded me of the scene in the first ep where JY saw SA in the rain after the orchestra performance. JY wanted to give her an umbrella at that time. So I actually view the umbrella scene in ep14 as a caring move as I think that's how JY is. JY always gives SA an umbrella whenever he can. I'm a little sad that SA might have viewed the move as him returning the umbrella. Why do I feel like I'm the one going through the break up ㅠㅠ Edited October 14, 2020 by Y.Q. Jillia 194,067
I want to say though... in episode 14, Professor Duster asked Hae Na to replace Song Ah and let her know if she decides to do it. Hae Na didn't look happy. And I have a feeling she might now follow through with it. Considering she will turn the pages for Joon Young in episode 15. I have hopes she comes around despite her nasty behavior in the past. Not sure if Jung Kyung will do the same and finally stop thinking of herself as the center of the universe and move on with her life. 16

calledtoteach 933
This is STILL BY FAR the saddest, most pitiful drama I’ve ever watched. I’m begging for a glimmer of sunshiny rain instead of all this gloom and doom!

Popular Post Y.Q. 573
Attempted to translate a interview with the writer. Thought it was interesting to know the perspective of the writer and her intention. PS: Not-professional-at-all translation so please feel free to correct me Spoiler 'Brahms' - painful for Park Eun-bin and unfriendly to Kim Min-jae Original source: https://www.newsen.com/news_view.php?uid=202010141350572410 The two persons that have fluttered their viewer's heart with their slow-burn relationship has eventually parted from each other. The reason for not being happy due to the affection for each other has made the breakup painful. In episode 14 of DYLB aired on October 13th, Song-Ah was shown to say goodbye to Jun-young. Jun-young, despite wanting to keep Song-ah, gave up as she was "unable to be happy". Two persons who are kind and considerate met but broke up with the wound. Viewers were convinced and saddened by the breakup because they know Song-ah's wounds and Joon-young's innermost thoughts. Song-ah is the narrator of the 'Do you like Brahms?' story. Although the inside story of each character was shown, the viewers were induced to follow the narration and emotion of Song-ah faithfully. On the other hand, Joon-young's emotions were concealed as much as possible. These have saved Joon-young's character, who has been making moves for Song-ah but has always kept his own heart as the last priority while allowing viewers to become more immersed in the events from Song-ah's perspective. In an earlier interview with Newsen, writer Ryu Bo-ri commented "Since Song-ah is the narrator of the drama, I wrote many scenes in a way that the play in Song-ah's gaze and Song-ah's heart can be followed. We can't always know what the person we love is thinking, so I wanted to describe more of the mood swings and the fretful feelings when one thinks of or faces the person he/she loves." The writer's intention seems to have received some reactions from the viewers. Song-ah did not see Jun-young's attempt to draw a line with Jung-kyung and his struggles to cut off Kyunghoo Foundation to diminish the factor to Song-ah's insecurity. What Song-ah perceives is the impression of Joon-young and Jung-kyung together and Jung-kyung being provocative with her confidence in her relationship with Joon-young. Things that were bound to hurt Song-ah took place in succession. Viewers who were immersed in Song-ah's emotion and also have their hearts fluttered by Joon-young like Song-ah can empathize with Song-ah being hurt by seeing Joon-young and Jung-kyung together. Song-ah, being unaware of what happened to Joon-young, was hurt by her growing anxiety from how much she likes Joon-young and eventually chose to part ways to take care of herself. This story structure has made Song-ah's declaration of break up reasonable. On the other hand, the structure is somewhat unfriendly to Joon-young. Although the extreme situations that Joon-young is facing - Joon-young's dad who is feeding Joon-young's guiltiness by creating debts and getting money from Jung-kyung, the preparation for competition not going the way he wants, and a stab from the back by his professor - are shown, the details of Joon-young's emotion has not been portrayed. Joon-young's efforts to keep Song-ah from getting hurt are in vain every time. Viewers who know all the inner stories of Joon-young will feel sorry and affection for him, but the relatively weak description of his emotion in the story is somewhat unfriendly to the character. Ironically, this unkindness makes Joon-young feel more sorry. This setting that left Song-ah wounded and is unkind to Joon-young is certainly a regretful point. But it also had a clear effect at the same time. It raises the level of immersion of the viewers so that they could be excited, happy, laugh, cry, angry, and hurt together in Song-ah's POV, as intended by the writer. Song-ah not being aware of Joon-young's desperate situation can induce the feeling of rapport to allow them to talk about the drama and enjoy it more abundantly. The hurt is as much as the love, and the sorry love affair has ended. The two will suffer from fever for a while, as they did not break up due to hate. The choice that they will make with their still-remain feelings is expected to be the attention of the remaining two episodes. Whether Song-ah, who left Joon-young and the violin to be happy, will be able to find happiness or will Joon-young, who has lived without greed, reveal his greed a little selfishly amid a great sense of loss he has never felt before? The attention remains for the rest of the story Edited October 15, 2020 by Y.Q. 5 3 1 2
Dana T 1,246
@Jillia You mean he looks good in that outfit.... something about a man in black! FINALLY got full subs for episode 14 thought I was going to die waiting! Ok 1st JK is evil! 2nd I'm so proud of SA for speaking up and sharing her true feelings you go girl! I do wish instead of saying she heard the recording she would've told him that JK told her so he would see her true colors. Lastly....why is he so evasive jeez! Instead of his answer being she was there because she hasn't been able to completely get over her feelings...hello that sounds horrible and leaves alot to the imagination so why not just tell her about his dad asking for more $...did he forget he's already told her about that so it's no surprise. Not near as much as her seeing JK coming out of his apartment at night. His communication skills leave alot to be desired. But he looks so good in that black turtleneck I'll give him a pass this time lol! Actually as I was posting comment somewhere else I realized I misspoke here. She wasn't there because of the $ situation she was there because of the recording. Which he doesn't want SA to know about. He should've waited at the cafe and told her about it. That he played it at practice like he always has and someone recorded it. Which that's bad because he said he wouldn't play it again and he did but even worse than that is for SA to be told about it by JK and that he did it because he still has feelings for her. Thank you for sharing Right it is hard to know where you have the other person when they are closed off. Writer really have manage to convey this in a heartfelt way. The fact that we also see JY perspective really have made a strong and impactful narrative to show this contrast. I hope to see this come together final week to show a stronger OTP.
vangsweetie637 52,398
Hello my Brahms crew!! Had been busy so haven’t had a chance to watch both episodes yet. Probably won’t get to it until this weekend. But loving all your insights and posts! Even the preview was hopeful. But I did see the clip on youtube when JK talked to SA about the song and I suddenly forgot everything because: 1
rafeusjanela 1,683
Thanks so much for the beautiful translation, @Y.Q.! I actually haven't watched episodes 13 and 14 yet (my poor heart can't take it HAHAHA) but from everything I've read and seen, I can agree that the writer portrayed the emotions beautifully! It's actually very realistic. In dramas and movies, we often see both sides, but in reality, what we often have is our own perspective. And we will keep on being unknowledgeable about the side of the other person unless we communicate. It's an important lesson we have to be reminded of again and again, as misunderstandings can easily arise in reality. 12 3
vangsweetie637 52,398
@Sky8lue lol, nope not me, chingu. I am not the classic musician in the house here. I am, however, the aggressive wrestler in the house: because we all know mon-tues has been pretty physical with us in this drama 2 9
larus 100,977
Do You Like Brahms: Episode 13-14 Open Thread by missvictrix The world of love and classical music continues to be quite tumultuous for our couple. This week, our hero is pushed into another crisis, and our heroine makes some important decisions. It was easy for our couple to fall in love, but will they be able to stick it out through all the hardships thrown their way? EPISODES 13-14 WEECAP I’m not going to sugarcoat it: this was a rough week in Do You Like Brahms. If you were like me and thought we reached our lowest lows last week, you’d be wrong. I got spoiled by how well our couple was communicating — I didn’t think that there was room for yet more misunderstandings and mishandled situations to come between them. But I was sadly wrong. This week, Song-ah reached her breaking point, and a collective weep fell across the dramaverse. Last week’s episodes ended with Song-ah witnessing Joon-young and Jung-kyung in the taxi together. To her credit, Song-ah brings this up right away to Joon-young, and is met with vague explanations and sincere apologies. It’s become their pattern — and even more so, and their holding pattern. Their relationship can’t advance because a) Joon-young can’t seem to untangle himself from Jung-kyung and b) Song-ah can’t help but notice. more https://www.dramabeans.com/2020/10/do-you-like-brahms-episode-13-14-open-thread/ 2 3

Abirami Ramakrishnan 1,045
Thanks @trisail.. The place where they are filming looks like what we have seen as the Seoul Art Center ? Will SA finally get to perform there? Or maybe I'm clowning myself.. Just by the locations I'm getting so many throwbacks to the first half of the show... I hope writer nim ties all loose ends together and we can see a lot of JoonSong moments before the show ends.. I just realised we didn't have a single scene of them together in the whole of EP13.. Sending good vibes and hope to all Brahms friends! 8 1
