Netflix has released the character stills of Lee Jung-jae and Park Hae-soo, who met again in the survival event that took place on the edge of the cliff in the new series 'Squid Game' (director Hwang Dong-hyuk), which is about to be released.

'Squid Game' is a Netflix series that tells the story of people who participated in a mysterious survival game with a prize of 45.6 billion won, risking their lives to become the ultimate winner. In the revealed character stills, the contrasting characters of Lee Jung-jae and Park Hae-soo stand out.

First, the appearance of Lee Jung-jae, who took off his intensity and returned with a friendly face after a long time, attracts attention. Lee Jung-jae, who crossed the ages, genres, and characters of 'The Thieves', 'Contemplative', 'Assassination', 'Along with the Gods' series, and 'Save us from evil', showed a new look in each work. He, who has proven his box office and acting skills by becoming the 'Quattro 10 Million Actors', played Ki Hoon, who participated in a survival game that risked his life at the brink of his life. Ki-hoon, who said Lee Jung-jae was "a character he has never experienced before," is a person who eventually participates in the game after business failure, divorce, debt, and gambling, but does not lose hope and humanity even in extreme situations. Lee Jung-jae, who said, "I tried to express the bright and innocent appearance and the inner side with the heavy pain of life at the same time," does not lose respect and hope for human beings while being swept away by the emotional turbulence in a fierce competition where only the victors survive. From the confusion of having to harm others to survive and the struggle for survival, his conflicting, agitated, and changing appearance gives us a sense of immersion and empathy with each round. Director Hwang Dong-hyuk said, "I wanted to show a friendly image hidden in Lee Jung-jae's sharp and strong image."

Park Hae-soo, who is continuing his dazzling performances across dramas and movies with his acting skills accumulated on the theater stage, will meet viewers from more than 190 countries for the third time after the Netflix movie 'Persona' and 'Time to Hunt'. He showed a colorful face, crossing good and evil, but this time, he exudes a strong presence with a character that cannot be quickly judged. Sang-woo, played by Park Hae-soo, was a junior who grew up in the same neighborhood as Ki-hoon, and was a gifted student in the neighborhood who entered Seoul National University. He rises and rises as the head of the investment team at a securities company, but becomes in debt due to the wrong choice and is reunited with Ki-hoon at the game room. With a cool reason and head, he plays strategically in any situation, showing a story that is contrary to the spirit. As the game progresses, the hidden desires will be revealed, and the tension will be instilled in the play. Unlike the other participants who sat down in the stills, the appearance of standing alone with sparkling cold eyes foreshadows the performance of Park Hae-soo, who melts into the character, intensely contemplating "what is the rational choice and decision that only he can make from Sang-woo's point of view?" . Director Hwang Dong-hyuk said, "Park Hae-soo's face has a strange charm that is not biased toward good or evil.

Lee Jung Jae And Park Hae Soo Are Two Sides Of The Same Coin In “Squid Game”

Netflix’s upcoming series “Squid Game” has released new character stills!

“Squid Game” is a new drama about a mysterious survival game with a reward of 45.6 billion won (about $40 million). Lee Jung Jae and Park Hae Soo star as two childhood friends who wind up joining the game—only to learn that there’s much more at stake than just the prize money.

According to Lee Jung Jae, his character Ki Hoon is one he has “never experienced before.” That says a lot, given that Lee Jung Jae has a spectacular discography including “The Thieves,” “Assassination,” “The Face Reader,” “Deliver Us from Evil,” and more. Ki Hoon is someone who has experienced divorce, the failure of his business, debt, and gambling. He’s a character that doesn’t lose hope and humanity even in the midst of desperation. Lee Jung Jae commented further on the role by saying, “I tried to express the heavy sense of pain hidden beneath what seems to be a vibrant life on the surface.”

Ki Hoon holds on to respect for others and hope while being swept off his feet by waves of emotions and fierce competition. He struggles through each round as he is forced to hurt others in order to survive. Director Hwang Dong Hyuk commented that he wanted to show “Lee Jung Jae’s personable image hidden within the actor’s sharp and fierce image.”

Park Hae Soo, on the other hand, will play Sang Woo, who grew up with Ki Hoon in the same neighborhood as a brilliant kid that went on to attend Seoul National University. After falling into great debt after one wrong decision, he goes from smooth sailing through life to fighting tactfully and in cold blood in the games. His character falls on the opposite end of the spectrum from Lee Jung Jae’s Ki Hoon. As the story progresses, his ambitions start coming to the surface and the look in his eyes grow colder.

His focus on winning is showcased in the still where he remains the only one standing among all the other contestants crouching down. Park Hae Soo’s efforts to show “the reasonable choices and decisions only Sang Woo can make” will make for a show with heightened tensions. Director Hwang Dong Hyuk commented, “Park Hae Soo’s face has an interesting charm that comes from falling neither on the side of good nor evil. I think he’ll be able to portray this character that evolves most dramatically better than anyone.”

On the contrast between the two characters, the director continued to explain, “I wanted them to emulate fraternal twins that share the same root and memories. They are neighbors that grew up in the same neighborhood. They shared their most innocent times, went on to live their own lives, and reunite at an unexpected place. Will they trust one another, will they survive? You’ll fall deeper into their choices and lives as the story progresses.”

Lee Jung-jae X Netflix 'Squid Game', main poster released

510512_616961_3310.jpg

Netflix's anticipated 'Squid Game' has released its first main poster. 'Squid Game' tells the story of people who participated in a mysterious survival game with a prize of 45.6 billion won, risking their lives to become the ultimate winner.

This epic story, which has been crafted by director Hwang Dong-hyuk for over 10 years, finally sees the light of the world through Netflix. He said, "I was able to obtain the most important material and mental freedom to create a challenging work," he challenged the first series, not a movie, and unfolded the world he had built without limiting the length, form, or content.

In addition to a huge set where 456 participants can actually play the game, Artistic Director Chae Kyung-sun created a unique atmosphere with fresh and colorful spaces, challenging colors, and objects that utilize the characteristics of each game.

The first main poster, released together, condensed the intense story they completed. It shows the contestants who are driven into the competition wearing the same training suits, the managers behind them, and the 45.6 billion won hanging from the ceiling in a condensed way of a modern society that is rushing towards extreme competition for money within the system of capitalism. The faces of the participants who were driven into the brutal reality of risking their lives and the memories of innocent childhood that were transformed by meeting extreme competition make viewers look back on the reality we live in.

Lee Jung Jae And Park Hae Soo’s “Squid Game” Unveils Main Poster + Director Reveals Story Took 10 Years To Plan

Netflix’s upcoming series “Squid Game” has unveiled its first main poster!

“Squid Game” is a new drama about a mysterious survival game with a reward of 45.6 billion won (about $40 million). Lee Jung Jae and Park Hae Soo star as two childhood friends who wind up joining the game—only to learn that there’s much more at stake than just the prize money.

The main poster sets out both the stakes of the game and the terrifying consequences should one fail. Most of the contestants, dressed in green tracksuits, are staring up at the clear glass bubble full of prize money, signifying the primary motivation for joining the game. But the group in the center, including Park Hae Soo and Lee Jung Jae, stare toward the camera, suggesting that their primary motivation is to escape the facility alive.

Behind them are the masked guards in red hazmat suits, carrying weapons and blocking the contestants’ escape. These are those who run the games and manage the contestants, but the cloaked figure in a silver mask is the true unknown face behind the games. The poster’s caption reads, “45.6 billion won ruins the adults’ sense of childhood innocence.”

squid-game.jpeg

The director of “Squid Game,” Hwang Dong Hyuk, has worked on movies in diverse genres like “The Fortress,” “Miss Granny,” and “Silenced.” He shared that he had first gotten the idea in 2008 while avidly reading a comic book about a group of people who had fallen into an extreme game. He said, “I wanted to make a survival drama that was the most Korean.”

The games in “Squid Game” are common games that most Koreans play in childhood, except with a fatal twist. “I wanted to create a sense of connection between the nostalgic games we played in our childhood and the sense of never-ending competition that modern adults feel,” he said. “There’s an irony in our most beautiful and innocent memories being changed into the most horrifying reality.”

It was through Netflix that Hwang Dong Hyuk was finally able to bring his idea to life after 10 years of planning. “It’s a challenging project, so I was able to have physical and psychological freedom [through Netflix],” he said. This is the first time that the director has taken on a series rather than a movie, and was able to exercise more freedom about the story’s length, content, and worldbuilding.

"I don't trust anyone"... Ha-Jun Wi → Ho-Yeon Jeong in 'Squid Game' participates in survival game

22QC7EC6QQ_1.jpg

'Squid Game' boasted a variety of characters.

On the 26th August, Netflix, a world-class entertainment streaming service, released character stills of various participants who participated in the survival game at the brink of 'Squid Game'.

'Squid Game' is a Netflix series that tells the story of people who participated in a mysterious survival game with a prize of 45.6 billion won, risking their lives to become the ultimate winner.

The released stills contain various emotions and situations of Oh Young-soo, Wi Ha-jun, Jeong Ho-yeon, Heo Seong-tae, Tripati Anupam, and Kim Joo-ryeong, who have stepped into the game with their own stories. Oh Young-soo, who has a long history in the film, drama and theater world, plays the role of Il-nam, the oldest person. Il-nam is a person who enjoys playing games alone, even in extreme situations at his old age. He is an old man in his seventies who is neglected as a socially underprivileged anywhere inside or outside the game room, but he overcomes hardships with the wisdom of life that no one can match in the game of one-hit.

Ha-Jun Wi, who is expanding his acting field by challenging various characters, from 'Pretty Noona Who Buys Me Food' and 'Romance is a Bonus Book' to the two-faced serial killer in 'Midnight', is playing a game chasing the traces of his missing brother. He plays Jun-ho, a police officer who infiltrated the . Introduced by director Hwang Dong-hyuk as “an observer of this game that will show a lot with his actions and his eyes,” Jun-ho hides his identity behind the masks of the game hosts, witnesses the other side of the survival game, and unravels the mystery behind the creation of the game.

Jung Ho-yeon, who captivated the fashion world around the world with her wide-ranging concept digestibility and charisma, is heralding the emergence of a strong newcomer with her acting debut in 'Squid Game'. Dawn, played by her, is a North Korean defector who has lived a rough life. As director Hwang Dong-hyuk said, “There are raw faces and emotions that only Jeong Ho-yeon can show,” Jung Ho-yeon portrays the lonely, sharp figure of dawn that no one can easily trust with unique colors.

Heo Seong-tae, who showed a strong presence in each work, confronts Ki-hoon who disassembles as a gangster Deok-su. After losing the organization's money and being pursued by his subordinates, he tries to overcome the situation by claiming the prize money. The curiosity is growing about what kind of crisis Deok-soo will bring, which makes the participants nervous by engaging in violence not only in games but also during breaks. Tripati Anupam, who has nurtured passion and skill in acting in Korea, plays Ali, a foreign worker. In fact, he is a polite young man who knows how to be grateful for even the smallest things. He plays games with Ki-hoon and Sang-woo, showing his simple and earnest appearance.

Lastly, Kim Joo-ryeong, who had a relationship with director Hwang Dong-hyuk in 'The Crucible', took on the role of a beautiful woman. She is a tough and stubborn beauty, her fouls are basic, and she tries to create a situation that is most advantageous to her. Kim Joo-ryeong perfectly expressed a beauty who was confused as if she was running around.

People with various stories who met in the extreme situation that separates life and death, I wonder if they will be able to reach out to each other in the dilemma of trusting or not believing in each other in a survival where they risk their lives. Released on September 17th.

Netflix has shared another chilling sneak peek of its upcoming series “Squid Game”!

“Squid Game” is a new drama about a mysterious survival game with a reward of 45.6 billion won (approximately $40 million) on the line. Lee Jung Jae and Park Hae Soo will star as two childhood friends who wind up joining the game—only to learn that there is more at stake than just the prize money.

In a newly released poster for the upcoming drama, the game’s contestants cower in fear as they run for their lives in front of a giant robot. Despite the brightly colored uniforms of the game’s faceless workers and the seemingly harmless look of the robot, which is designed to look like a young girl, the blood-stained ground and the heap of bodies in the background reveals just how deadly of a game they’re playing.

The poster’s caption ominously reads, “45.6 billion [won], the childhood innocence of grown-ups will be destroyed.”

Meanwhile, the new trailer gives viewers a glimpse of how the contestants wind up in this terrifying battle, which pits them against one another in lethal versions of six classic Korean children’s games.

Once the 456 contestants—all of whom are badly in need of money—agree to join the game, they learn that there is no way out. Losing the game means losing your life—but refusing to play will also result in elimination. Only the final survivor will get to leave with the 45.6 billion won.

Despite being outraged by the violence and injustice of the game, the players have no choice but to fight for their lives. As a masked panel of elite organizers watches from afar, the contestants begin to form alliances, devise strategies, and turn on one another in a desperate attempt to survive.

Netflix’s upcoming series “Squid Game” released new stills and posters starring Lee Jung Jae, Park Hae Soo, and Wi Ha Joon!

The new stills share a look at the 456 game participants, the mysterious administrators who are wearing masks, and the place where the large-scale game takes place. The 456 contestants, who have each received a business card with a circle, triangle, and square drawn upon it, are people who have been pushed to the edge of society due to different personal reasons.

Squid-Game1.jpg

Although the contestants agreed to the unique proposal of changing their lives around with an opportunity of a lifetime, the price of the game is their lives. They soon realize that only the last person remaining can claim the prize. Director Hwang Dong Hyuk shared, “The game is a mini version of the outside world. I transferred the competition that takes place in the real world to the game exactly as it is.” As the contestants repeat the process of rallying together and betraying each other, they experience extreme struggle and despair within the game.

In the new stills, the actors realistically portray the unbelievable setting. Actors of all different ages, genders, and nationalities skillfully express their characters’ dilemma and anguish from facing an ironic situation in which they have to take down a stranger in order to survive. The drama will deliver a shocking and diverse story full of twists to viewers through the set-up of an extreme situation where no one can trust themselves, let alone a stranger.

Furthermore, the masked administrators also depict a hierarchical society. The mysterious figures control the contestants while wearing masks that are divided by class with the shape of a triangle, circle, or square. The contestants wear green training suits while the game administrators sport bright pink jumpsuits, adding even greater tension to the inevitable confrontation between the two groups. Lee Jung Jae shared, “The game felt fun during the first filming, but the fear felt as the filming progressed was on another scale.”

“Squid Game” also released character posters of the three main leads, clearly conveying the strain and terror the contestants experience from the game. Contestants Ki Hoon (Lee Jung Jae) and Sang Woo (Park Hae Soo), who have been left with no other options in their lives, wear intense and desperate expressions on their face. They have no choice but to survive until the end of the unpredictable game in order to claim the prize money that could flip their lives around. Ki Hoon’s poster includes a bright pink circle in front while Sang Woo’s poster is highlighted with a neon pink triangle.

Police officer Joon Ho (Wi Ha Joon) creates a suspenseful atmosphere as he aims the gun at someone. While chasing after his missing older brother, Joon Ho follows the clue left by Ki Hoon at the police station and infiltrates the survival game. He conceals himself as an administrator and gradually approaches the hidden truth. Since Joon Ho has witnessed the two-sided nature of the game, viewers are curious to find out who he’s pointing the gun at. No one knows who started this game, adding even more elements of mystery to the drama.

Spoiler

Wi-Ha-Joon.jpg

Squid game is based on a children’s game enjoyed in the 70s and 80s that’s simple but competitive and violent because it has a lot of physical elements. It’s a game in which the attackers and defenders play by facing off on top of a drawing of a circle, triangle, and square, which are shapes that make up a squid.

Director Hwang Dong Hyuk shared, “I decided to use the name of this game as the title after seeing everyone, who is living in a capitalistic era, being driven out by extreme competition.” The props and rooms from each game, which uses the three basic shapes, have become a colosseum for the contestants. The shapes also represent class division, and the contestants captured within the circle, triangle, and square in the posters portray how those people are caught in an extremely competitive society.

Premiere Watch: The Veil, Squid Game, One the Woman, Yumi’s Cells

by missvictrix

The drama airing schedule changes at the drop of a hat these days, but that doesn’t mean there is any lack of new dramas to choose from. Premiering in our new weekend slots we have a massive infusion of crazy: doppelgänger hijinks, kill games, and woman and her animated cells. In addition, The Veil (which delayed a week from its initial airing schedule) is also being added to the mix, in case you needed even more action on your drama plate.

Squid Game

Time slot: Friday
Broadcaster: Netflix
Genre: Thriller, action
Episode count: 9

Reasons to watch: It feels like dramaland hasn’t had a really high-stakes game-based drama since the excellence that was Liar Game, so the excitement is high for Netflix’s original drama Squid Game. Lee Jung-jae, Park Hae-soo, and Wi Ha-joon are all pulled into the madness that are the squid games. They might sound fun on paper, but the trailers and promos we’ve seen make it abundantly clear that there’s a huge difference between being eliminated from a game, and being eliminated from the planet. Netflix dramas are notoriously lacking the soft edges we’re so used to in dramaland, so I’m expecting a nail-biting and stomach-churning tale here.

What is Squid Game?

Squid Game, also known as Round Six, is an upcoming South Korean action-adventure series, created and distributed by Netflix.

The title references a popular children’s game in Korea, a variation of tag that uses a squid-shaped board.

In the Netflix series, 456 people are invited to play a mysterious competition called ‘Squid Game’ for a cash prize of ₩45.6 billion (around $40 million).

The ‘players’ are considered to be failures in life with some having an excessive amount of debt, but there is more to this ‘Squid Game’ than meets the eye.

What looks like childish challenges turns out to be a deadly survival tournament; lose any of the daily games and the players are killed off until one final player is left.

Who will be the last player standing and who are the mysterious tracksuit-wearing people running the Squid Game? All will be answered soon enough!

New Netflix K-Drama Series 'The Squid Game' Sees Hundreds Compete in Deadly Survival Game

New Netflix original K-drama series The Squid Game sees hundreds battle it out in a survival game, with losers facing deadly consequences while one wins a prize worth around $39 million.

The mystery thriller, released on September 17, sees 456 cash-strapped people, from a recently unemployed divorcee to a North Korean defector, each be given a mysterious business card that ultimately offers them a chance to win 46.5 billion Korean won in a series of survival games.

The Squid Game is a real-life street game played by Koreans in their childhood, including the series' director Hwang Dong-hyuk, who recalled it was the most competitive of the games he'd played as a child and is most symbolic of the "modern competitive society" we live in, South Korea's Dong-A Ilbo reported on Thursday.

The game, which entails two people physically combating each other but within the lines of a squid image drawn on the ground, is one of six games the participants will be thrust into playing.

The game's backdrop of quiet classical music in a set designed with bright colors conjures a nostalgic childhood feel.

But the deceivingly innocent, peaceful atmosphere is contrasted by the eerie masked organizers of the game who monitor the participants' every move, with anyone deviating from the rules of the game being met by death.

The participants are seen in striking attire, each wearing identical green tracksuits, while each of the game managers sport a hot pink tracksuit and a black mask with a shape symbol on it.

Director Hwang told Cine21, a South Korean film magazine, on Thursday: "We paid attention to the contrast of colors because both groups wear team uniforms. The wearing of uniform clothes in the same color was meant symbolize the erasing individuality and personality."

At a press conference in South Korea, the director said the show's survival game concept points to the "irony that the capitalist society we all live in, which was created to allow us all to eat well and live well, rather destroys the essence and humanity of human beings," South Korea's Hankook Ilbo reported on Wednesday.

He hopes the series will push viewers to ask themselves: "Why do we risk our lives to compete with each other? Where did the competition begin and where is it going?," the Donga Ilbo reported on Thursday.

The series features a star-studded cast including Lee Jung-jae, one of South Korea's most famous actors known from various Korean films and dramas, who plays one of the game participants.

It also stars Park Hae-soo, the actor from the Netflix film Time to Hunt, which was the first Korean film to be featured as a special gala screening at the 2020 Berlin International Film Festival.

The Squid Game will also feature a special appearance by Gong Yoo, the actor known for various K-dramas and films, such as Train to Busan, which featured at Cannes, along with its sequel Peninsula.

I liked detective Hwang, its a pity he didnt have more scenes...

Spoiler

I thought he replaced No. 29..?

I had to stop watching mid episode 5 last night and watch something light hearted. This is my first survival drama and shocked didn't even come close to how I felt after episode 1.

My initial thought of this was how desperation (and greed) can make people make choices/decisions, even if it means paying with their own lives. The mastermind behind this is one ultra sick individual.

I stopped in the middle of Episode 6 tbh because it was a touch more boring than the other episodes. I won't discuss why as not to spoil ;)

In any case, I agree that this is shocking, especially since ML went to police to report and nothing happened. Yeah it sounded crazy, but if you kill 200 people, then authorities are bound to notice. Not all of those 200 people have no families. Indeed they do. But still, they were mass gunned down.

What is also shocking is when the Team first banded together, ML and Seoul University graduate teamed up, but Seoul U graduate actually misled is childhood friend/hyung for that honeybread game. The four of them could have gone to triangle, but he deliberately misled them. Still, ML kept trusting his old friend. Lee Jung Jae does a great job portraying this naive (comment by cynical me, but of course he portrays ~HOPE~) fool.

Seoul graduate almost got his team killed. Also it was funny how it took him 7-8 minutes to do his easy triangle, in comparison to the umbrella and star etc. For such a genius, he's not that smart. Obviously he shouldn't kill those he trusts/who trust him, until the last game.

did you finish the series already? I'm at least glad there are not yet stupid detective actions. He's being sort of smart.

I think that sometimes the smartest (academically, in this drama) isn't smart in other ways.

I do have one question for those who watched Episode 6

Spoiler

How come the gangster guy (101) was allowed to restart the game to change to another game?

He was losing but then cried foul and said how it was "inequal" because he was losing lol.

Then the squid managers were like "ok you're right"

also i knew the smart guy was going to steal the pakistani guy's marbles. poor pakistani, he was so naive and innocent.

i didn't enjoy episode 6 despite the emotional component of thinking you choose your team mate, but actually you chose your opponent. it was just a very quiet episode and pairing the two cold girls together didn't help either.

Soooooooo finished the series.

Without spoilers: The whole cinematography, it was executed perfectly.

and the plot twist

Spoiler

I did suspect Harabeoji in Game 1 as he was grinning wildly while people kept dying left and right, though I did think he died during Game 5. But seeing him in that bed, I wasn't shocked after all that he had done this all.

What shocked me more is when he changed his look :D

I'm sorry, but it was just portraying this series so fittingly. The bright color and style, just like the squid game.

Man, I screamed at him though when he TURNED BACK from the plane. I'm like, your daughter is waiting!!!!!!!!!!! DONT BE AN IDIOT!!!!!!!!!!!!! ARGGHH ARE YOU GOING TO KILL 400+ PEOPLE AGAIN ???

but he is and will be an idiot.

(hope)

i also have question how they can kill 400+ people without anyone becoming suspicious lol.

and why lee byung hun would kill HIS OWN BROTHER!!!!!!! i actually waited for detective to reappear,. my heart got broken in the end twice then. Male Lead for abandoning his daughter AGAIN, and detective being dead for real... or is he?

December 2nd

Congratulations on solving the second clue!

The weather is cold and chilly in some parts of the world, and Christmas times often also mean that you, your relatives and friends and acquaintances might wish to dress accordingly. Are you a Christmas lover and own a Christmas sweater you unpack for this season?

If not, may I suggest combining this season with this year's most successful Netflix hit:

(sweaters available by googling ;) )

Or do you think Christmas sweaters are ugly?
