[Drama 2020] It's Okay not to be Okay, 사이코지만 괜찮아

Last night was such a heart-rendering episode. With the revelations of the mother who loves both of the sons the same. It breaks my heart seeing KT cried all his inside for all his time. I think this is the first time he is being honest to his feelings. The heart is a liar which lies when it's hurting. The lady patient gets her reality back and accepts it with more peace. It's so poignant that this episodes are depicting how these characters are finally agreed to make peace with themselves.

Now talking about MY's mom, in every flashback memories of her, she is the one who is indifferent here. So they declared her death as she disappeared for quite long. Like I said the lady who took the book from Mr.Ko and told him he's always one step behind probably knows something?

Aww.. the otp scenes melt my heart. The nightmare snatcher doll present is such a sweet one that happens in this episode.  I love how MY pouts her lips waiting for something else then mock how ugly it is. But once KT said it's made by him she changed quickly into praising the handmade is such a pretty one. She even threw away the statue out her table. Lols

Hello. I just started to watch this last Friday and finally got to catch up with the recent episode and I definitely regret why I didn't decide to watch this earlier. Anyways, can't count how many times this show manage to make me cry. It just speaks to you deeply. Like in the latest ep, that back story with KT's mom. I really ugly cried at that part.

Anyway, I really want to know if MY's mother is still alive, like her disappearance seems fishy. Also, what really happened between MY and her dad. Like I wanted to know who's really the bad guy in their family.

And I really can't wait for the OTP's relationship to further develop. I hope it won't cause conflict between KT and ST though. Looking forward for later's episode. :) I am so excited to see more of KT's jealous side lol.

@YongZura⁷ yes, I want to eat everything: Korean BBQ, pizza and soft serve ice cream Lol I have healthy metabolism

For me, our three leads have just started on their healing process at this mid way point and to finish well, it will be painful and difficult times ahead but it doesn’t mean that it will be a sad or terrible thing.

So yes, we are half way through the show and as the week progress, we see how the characters are confronting their fears and working to help each other in their own ways. There’s still a lot to understand re MY’s mom and her death, Moon brother’s mom’s death too and how will our three leads handle it all once the truth is revealed.

My theories re MY’s mom and dad

Spoiler

My theory is that MY’s mom probably committed suicide but in the process of doing so she traumatizes both her husband and MY very badly. Before the death, I think MY’s father knew of his wife’s obsession with MY and maybe in his fit of anger/jealous too?, tried to kill her thinking a combo of stopping his wife who was abusing MY or preventing MY to become insane like his wife. I wanted to know if he knew she had problems, did he tries to get her help etc. It seems like she was just left in the castle with MY.

Back to the mother’s suicide - I think she drowned herself in the water hence the flashback of MY seeing her mom say save me. I don’t think they ever found the body and it’s MY’s projection of guilt that she didn’t save her mom that she imagines her being in the basement.

I hope the show doesn’t make MY’s mom the killer of Moon brother’s mom. It is too much even if she was insane but if they do I would like them to explain it well and not just it be like oh an insane person killed this poor mother. It is also a bit contradictory of the overall message of the show so far too - to paint people with mental problems in a positive light and I would be conflicted it in the end this villain would be someone like MY’s mom.

but these are me just making guesses and I am looking forward to how they explain everything.

The Wizard of Oz and IOTNBO/Thoughts on Ep7

The Wizard of Oz

In the story of The Wizard of Oz, a young girl by named Dorothy and her dog, Toto, live on a farm in Kanas. One day, a tornado hits, teleporting both Dorothy and Toto to the magical land of Oz. It is there that Dorothy meets a good witch who gives her ruby red slippers. The good witch tells her that in order to return home all she has to do is travel on the yellow brick road to Emerald City and meet the Wizard of Oz/Professor who will help her.

FnB3WPR.jpg

Along her journey she encounters the evil Wicked Witch of West who seeks to take her ruby red slippers as well as kill her. However, with the help of her companions whom she had met along the way, Dorothy is able to defeat the evil Wicked Witch of the West and continue her journey to meet the Wizard/Professor.

Upon meeting the Wizard/Professor and the good witch, Dorothy is able to return home by clicking her heels three times and saying "there's no place like home". She then finds herself back home in her bed and surrounded by her family members and her dog, Toto. She goes on to telling her family what all had happened to her, but her family dismisses her story by telling her it was just all a dream. The story ends with Dorothy insisting that it was all real and says, " I'll never run away from home again. There's no place like home".

Connection to IOTNBO

Like Dorothy, MY also returns home with the help of her red slippers (aka KT). For example, it was KT's decision to move to the area of the OK mental hospital that leads to MY deciding to move back home. Additionally, KT is her dog, Toto, who is her loyal and trusty companion that she cares deeply about. KT could also be MY's reason for wanting to permanently stay in her old family home. Meaning that he is the one who is responsible for turning her nightmare of a home into a happy one.

C49mXPX.jpg

As previously mentioned,  the Wizard/Professor is an important figure that helps Dorothy/MY in returning home. So maybe there is some sort of aspect of Professor Ko that will help MY to heal from the past. It leads me to think that Professor Ko is actually a good person, but may not have been a good father to MY similar to how the Wizard says to Dorothy that he is a "good man, but a bad wizard". Finally, MY's mom is like the Wicked Witch of the West who tries to kill her and take away her red slippers (i.e tries to kill her prince aka KT).

Thoughts:

      • So freaking sweet and when he briefly held her I was like OH THEYRE ABOUT TO KISS RIGHT NOW!! However, I was slightly disappointed when they didnt haha. KISS ALREADY!!

Theme of ep. 07 centers heavily on role of mothers and the weight carried by the words we say.

Moon Young inadvertently helped Ms. Kang to gain closure and in turn, come to terms with loss of her daughter.. It was also the catalyst needed for Moon Young herself to free herself from the clutches of her own mother. Which results in her chopping off her lustrous, flowing locks.

I find it true and funny when Moon Young said, If you want to be fashionable, you need to be prepared to be uncomfortable. Which is the equivalent of Beauty is Pain somethin' I'm more familiar with LoL!

We, as do I have all been guilty of uttering words in the heat of anger. We often forget how hurtful words can be. At times, we say things without really meaning it. Unfortunately, the damage is already done by the time we realize it.

That behind every word that's been said, the one who conveyed it actually meant well. As seen in flashback, Gang Tae's mom loved him just as much. We just choose to see the worse which mars our entire perception. I think it's an Asian culture thing LoL. My parents believed in that whole bullying is love. At the time, I didn't see or choose to not understand the meaning of their words until now... that scene where Gang Tae held onto Sang Tae while crying out he misses their mom hit hard for me personally..

This. By resolving it at this time, I can’t help but think that something big, bad, and sad will happen to break whatever they built.

Although honestly, I enjoy the pacing of the past seven episodes. The story flows naturally, and I appreciate how the writers use the stories of other people to help the characters deal with their own trauma. And what the leads end up doing is comforting each other. While they may be there during the course of events or even trigger it to happen, there are a lot of more direct factors that come into play. The thing with KT, I think he has always been asking himself if his mother really loved him or not or if she had him just because she needed him. It was triggered in the fourth episode and worsened in the sixth one. It broke down his wall by the seventh ep. My grandma used to tell me: A drunk man’s words is a sober man’s thoughts or something like that. For so long, he has been repressing himself—even bits and pieces of his childhood. And when he got tipsy and when he heard his brother’s testimonies, he was forced to evaluate his memories and view them differently. The whole scene built up pretty well, starting from the issues regarding parenting in episode 3, seeing Kang Eun-ja break down and regretting what she Did to her daughter, his choice to drink that night,  Juri’s mom and Jae-su comforting him on the rooftop—and finally the hug he gave his brother.

This means there are NINE episodes where so many things can happen :( and we’re already so attached. We don’t want to see them in more pain :(

I'm rewatching ep7 at the moment I think if it is planned well it is possible to spread it all out to 9 episodes. We still have the following to explore:

1. What's the backstory behind Joori and Moon Young? Like Kang Tae with his mum and Moon Young telling him to "Gojo" - It appears there may be misunderstanding between them when young since they were friends before.

2. Daepyo-nim's relationship with Moon Young and potentially Moon Young's mum. I don't know if I miss the details in previous episodes but he knows a lot about Moon Young's family so I'm thinking he may be an old friend to the family.

--- Intermission ---

Ep7 rewatch: I reached the part where Kang Tae cries on the rooftop and I cried again with him.

:criesariver:

--- Intermission ---

Ok....back...

3. The mystery behind the woman who hums "Clementine". Is it Moon Young's mum?

4. Kang Tae & Moon Young's blossoming relationship. For now Kang Tae needs to confront he still has feelings for Moon Young (think this will happen tonight).

5. Also in ep8 preview, is Sang Tae jealous and fighting with Moon Young for Kang Tae?

6. The mystery behind the butterfly & will that lead to the mystery of their mother's death? Will this also lead to Moon Young's mother's disappearance?

7. The mystery behind why Go Dae Hwan is trying to kill Moon Young.

8. Moon Young's new book and Sang Tae's new sketch.

9. Sang Tae's wall painting.

10. Triangle love between Jae Soo, Joori and Daepyo-nim.

11. Other patients' stories that could tie in with the characters and their character growth.

---

The scene where Kang Tae was drunk, these two are sitting so close with each other. Being Moon Young, I'd have expected her to take advantage and kisses Kang Tae. He was so drunk he might not resist and voila safety pin unplug :D But I also like that it didn't happen as it allows them to have the deeper conversation about Kang Tae's story and intro to Mang Tae (so cute, but is this going to be commercialised later?).

The brilliance of this show.

Yes I can go on and on about KSH and SYJ's chemistry - but the storytelling is just *chef's kiss*

KT finally realising that he subconsciously repressed all the good memories in relation to his mum because all he chose to remember was the times he was neglected for the sake of his brother. And tbh as a viewer, I definitely questioned the mum for a bit there earlier on - but after last night :tears: it all came flooding back to him after encountering i) the patient who lost her daughter regretted saying harsh words to her before she died ii) talking to JR's mum (I love her btw) who advised him not to be so harsh on his single mum as he should know how difficult it is to raise two boys (especially one who is autistic) and finally iii) when ST told him their mum used to bring them to eat jjamppong all the time because it was KT's favourite.

The realisation was executed perfectly - KSH did not disappoint. And the way it is written is extremely cathartic. It made me realise that most of the time, it is easier and more convenient to remember someone's faults than choosing to remember the good things they have done. And this notion was personified through KT and his relationship with his mum. We got to see it from his perspective in the beginning and was able to empathise with him but now knowing that that was not the whole picture (as most people tend to forget) we learn that she was doing the best she could at the time.

Him saying he misses his mum at the end - painful but necessary.

I was BAWLING my eyes out last night - especially when it was shown how sorry she was to KT and kept on kissing his face after.

I am Waiting for an INTENSE KISS , we have completed the First Half of the show barring 1 episode.

:smooches3:

ST I am not sure who will he be jealous of...I think there is a dialog tomorrow on the lines, "I am fedup of sharing things or not having things on my own" . More like MY doting on KT and KT not getting that ST should be the one MY to dote on (Analogy Like the Shirt, Dinasour Shirt should have been worn by MY as per ST not the Plain one because that was more expensive and Belonged to him)

Kiss i'd expect in ep 10

1. We have to know about MY's mom, her role in KT's mom's death, MY's role in that of being passive observer or maybe she killed mom.. her memories are distorted too

2. KT distancing himself from her for sometime given she is connected to mom's death etc..

So, kiss, confession, love dovey should happen by ep 10-11 .. next episodes mY's healing, finding out about Mo,, next 2 episodes in uncovering the truth..maybe mom's novel also has clues.. sorting out with dad..

The last episode was really interesting because it showed how truthful memories are. KT had forgotten what happened when it rained because his negative emotions left a bigger impression than the good ones. It was the same for the mother who lost her daughter. So what appeared as a reality in KT's mind was in fact not the reality. As a young boy, he missed things. Someone needed to remind him that he couldn't see the whole picture.

I have the feeling that it is the same for MY. Her mother left such a negative impression on her that she is like a ghost in her life. But just like KT, she might have forgotten good memories. She seems only to remember the bad ones, like her father strangling her or her mother threatening her. The mother could have decided to disappear and live at the OK hospital because she realized that she represented a danger to her own daughter.

Girl's all talk but I think when it comes down to it - she's going to be caught off guard when he finally relents to his 'desires'.

And that's me putting it out into the universe that he makes the first move when they (eventually) kiss!

"It's Okay to Not Be Okay": Kim Soo Hyun and Seo Ye Ji overcome trauma and develop feelings for each other

According to the latest development of "It's Okay to Not Be Okay", Kim Soo Hyun and Seo Ye Ji together overcame their traumas and ignited the flame of "Safety pin love story".

Episode 7 of the Sat-Sun drama "It's Okay to Not Be Okay" (tvN) airing on July 11 has recorded an average rating of 5.6% and peaked at 5.8% based on standards for households using the paid broadcasting platform, including cable cab, IPTV, and satellite television. As for tvN's target audiences (at the age of 20~49), the drama also gained an average rating of 4.4% and peaked at 4.7%, thereby leading all the same-time-slot shows of all channels, including the terrestrial television. (provided by Nielsen Korea, based on standards of paid broadcasting platforms nationwide).

In this episode, Kim Soo Hyun (as Moon Kang Tae) belatedly realized his mother's love for him, while Seo Ye Ji (as Ko Moon Young) cut off her long hair to escape from memories of her mother.

Earlier, Kim Soo Hyun stayed with Seo Ye Ji all night when she was struggling with the nightmare. He spent time won helping her feel relieved the following day by driving her to eat delicious food and walk with her on the nice-view road.

Meanwhile, Seo Ye Ji told Kim Soo Hyun, "You have no desire at all. Nothing you want to eat, to have, or to do. You are indifferent to everything." Kim Soo Hyun responded, "I just hold myself back. Not everyone does whatever they want to do like you." However, Seo Ye Ji advised Kim Soo Hyun to stop holding himself back and shook his heart as she said, "Let me pull your safety catch?"

Afterward, Kim Soo Hyun comforted Seo Ye Ji by giving her the dreamcatcher doll he made himself to help his brother get over nightmares. Kim Soo Hyun's delicate considerate behavior made Seo Ye Ji feel warmth in her heart.

In addition, Kim Soo Hyun realized that the reason why his mother used to take him and his brother to eat jjamppong when he was young was because he liked it. This healed Kim Soo Hyun's accumulated trauma. The image of him crying as he recalled the memory of his mother touching him while he was sleeping and apologizing in tears has touched the viewers.

On the other hand, after going to OK Psychiatric Hospital, Seo Ye Ji received Bae Hae Sun's apology (as Kang Eun Ja) for mistaking her for her daughter. Seo Ye Ji asked for the scarf Bae Hae Sun always brought with her as the compensation. At first, Bae Hae Sun hesitated as her daughter had given it to her during her lifetime, but she eventually decided to give it to Seo Ye Ji. It can be said that Seo Ye Ji helped Bae Hae Sun ease burdens in her heart and feelings of missing her daughter. After that, Kim Soo Hyun affectionately looked at her then praised, "Good job, Ko Moon Young."

After that, Seo Ye Ji went home and cut her long hair off. This bespeaks her will to escape the nightmares and terrible memories that have clung to her for a long time, different from the dog that can't run away for it forgets how to bite off its tether in the story "The spring dog" that she wrote. After fixing Seo Ye Ji's jagged bangs, Kim Soo Hyun admired and complimented her, "So beautiful", making the atmosphere between them more intimate.

Thus, Kim Soo Hyun and Seo Ye Ji are developing their relationship in a more profound and special direction after overcoming their mental pains. Accordingly, the audience is looking forward to episode 8 to see how romantic their love affair will be.

bairama, that was an interesting point about the child MY being tied to a tree of her own hair and the Spring Dog who had been tied to a tree. It seems that MY's fairy tales are very personal to her.

This drama just seems to have layers and layers of meaning. I can already see that it will require another watch. :)

yes..

plus honestly im quite surprised how ep 7 made MY as healer of the mother mental illness. I thought she would be analyzed & suspected as mental illness patient due to her antisocial by the ok team. But sure the drama emphasize she has a special power that form in different approach to heal others mind, it's proved by her writings (the book published are well loved), plus the mother story.. Also i love how she is truly soft while counsel KT, i see both her acts & fairy tales that seems very personal to her want to guide us that she was running in too much pain thats why she understands but in different attitude(?)

besides the cut tie of both leads, i'm worrying about ST. JS (Jae Sook) influence him with words like "dont trust KT too much", it could make he is anxious & he already find KT not like usual these days after moving in with MY.. At the preview, ST said something like whats left then for me.. The pov of dilemma parenting/caring would be happened to KT in future, the jealousy, learn to share etc.. whoa but as we know KT is the only family & world left for ST too this would be potentially hard time for the ST, KT, MY.. :"

im very curious now about her mother bg.. "the witch of the west" seems heavily projected the mother character
