Am I the only one who liked the ending, but felt slightly unsatisfied and empty?

Maybe because episode 15 was full of fireworks that this one paled in comparison? It definitely tied up loose ends and gave all our characters a satisfactory ending without feeling forced.

I liked how DH and HK have developed into a very natural and 'real' couple as such and I simply love their chemistry. But somehow, I felt like we were shortchanged with their final scene

I feel the same, @YuSanSeul I think we were all expecting so much more after that couch scene in episode 15. Though I must say that we got the fun and whimsical vibe back that we missed so much in the earlier episodes!

Spoiler

- I do love that finally finally we got to hear DH call HK oppa aww. Twice!  Also they are using banmal now!

- Love that they came full circle, eating rice bowls outdoors, with a view. That last scene touched me so much. It’s so funny how they actually became each other at the end. How DH wants to go to restaurants now and how HK gave in to eating rice bowls. That’s true love, right there.

- Don’t love that there were no more passionate kisses between our OTP :tears:

- Don’t love where they are going with the Sora and Park Inkyu storyline. I wish they had paired Sora up with Byeong Jin instead!

@YuSanSeul @starrynicagree with you.  I felt shortchanged by the writer and director. I felt like they just wanted to wrap it up.  Even the cute scenes between Hae-kyung and Do-hee felt more like fillers coz it didn't really push their story forward. At the very least, they should have shown Hae-kyung's first marriage proposal early on and spent the last 15 to 20 minutes showing us their wedding scene. That would have been the perfect wrap up to their dinner mate relationship.

I also wish they had more scenes of Hae-kyung with Do-hee's mom. Surprisingly, I loved that scene of Hae-kyung paying her a visit by himself and having a comfortable meal with her while he confides in her about Do-hee.  It would have been lovely to see them bonding in the kitchen while Do-hee just eats everything they cook. He lost his mom so it wouldn't be surprising if he bonds with her. Wasn't it cute when he almost referred to himself as her son-in-law? :D

@akhenaten Though one of the cute scenes I love is their Instagram account dinner_mate. They look so happy the entire year they were dating!

And I love that mom and HK scene too! How HK has gotten so comfy with DH’s mom and how he told her her daughter said he was gonna have instant food his whole life? That was hilarious.  It truly warmed my heart that he is able to have and enjoy warm meals home cooked for him by a mother figure again. I felt so happy for HK at that point!

Hello everyone!

I looked at clips and stuff on IG.

But wanted to share Drama Milk's recaps.

part 1 is up so far

https://www.dramamilk.com/category/recaps/

@Ayame Thanks for making the forum of our OTP.

-Busy morning and I haven't eaten lunch yet

From IG clips I saw

-Keanu and AY get married (cute) with the staff all wondering where and when their boss got a man? LOL DH like she has been dating him for a while

-HK denied a sexy night (Ok expected the guy has 2 fractured ribs) glad DH set him in his place

(no clip of her holding his hands that I saw---so have to wait to see episode)

-Cute scenes of DH and HK eating at the end ( def ok kind of neutral ending) but then how would you end it? Just want to go back to the name of the drama to use that ending?

-I did like the few scenes of skinship from the few clips I saw

But other than that, not seen much to go by until I watch it tonight.

I did see episode last night, just got tired. I stayed up til 4am (I admit wrote in other forums instead).

LOL

I will write more later.

Always great to those i met in this forum. Hope to see you friends later

And any others I have missed, thanks for the lovely ride. I will write more later when I watch the finale at home in a few hours at least another 6-7 hours to go before I can get home to watch it!

Thanks for the fun, theories, info, videos and fanning over SSH and SJH while waiting between episodes.

It was great to get more involved in the forums after a 6 year absence. Wishing you all well and see you around!

I already miss this drama and our dinner couple.

Final episode was nice. Really nice. But I think it was to nice. I wish it had more energy and positive craziness

I liked the concept of the final scene, but I didn't like how it was shown.

But anyway, it was a good drama with a good happy ending.

It's been fun chatting with everyone about this drama.  Thanks for joining in!

I had hoped for more from this drama because, for me, it kinda lost coherence in the middle and was a bit faded at the end.  But, no matter what, our lead couple brought their "A Game" and really made a great romance.  What I liked even better was the romance with AY and Keanu; that's what I will remember with a smile.  Their wedding announcement was the highlight of the final episode.

My God.

Was it just me or was it really SJH crying and not Do Hee in the end?

Her eyes suddenly became swollen from crying after HK delivered those lines.

A good ending, although as many have pointed out, it did feel alittle flat. I did like that it ended back at a food truck - coming full circle as it were.

All in all, the happiest ending has to go to Keanu & AY  ..... and I'm just fine with that!

Thanks all for another great thread! See you in the next one!

Thank you all for all the comradeship and companionship all this time! I admit I’m obsessed with this drama and our OTP and nobody else would understand like all of you did.

Dinner Mate will be one of my top dramas of all time. I’ve never laughed and cried so much in one same drama before.

@thistle You’re right, our leads definitely brought their A game to this drama and it has certainly made an impact on us fans. I love how it was all so romantically and beautifully shot too in the beginning episodes, all the bokeh, the colors and scenery in Jeju.

The soundtrack complements the drama so much, not just the songs, but when the music accompaniment came on in some scenes it just touched me to my core.

I love the ending when our OTP were eating rice bowls from a food truck outdoors, it brought them full circle. How HK reminisced that he will never forget the taste of that first rice bowl he ate with DH in Jeju and how he wants to remember it the rest of his life. When they showed us scenes from the first episode then, I remembered how I fell in love with this drama all over again.

I don’t want this to end. I feel so empty and lost now  oh and lastly, just want to add that Kim Hae Kyung is really just the perfect boyfriend. EVER. STAN.

Thank you again you all. You guys made the waiting for new episodes so much more better for me. :hooray2:

I noticed it too. Perhaps they were all just overwhelmed by emotions that it’s their last time working together.

Ahhh it did feel like it fizzled towards the end but I'm happy my main couple got hitched at the end yah!!!!  The main leads did a cracking job. I liked their ending. That's my kinda proposal (I love my belly so a life of awesome dinners sounds heavenly to me). They came full circle so I take that.  Plus that OST is pure fire :cutekitty:. I found myself bopping along and or humming or  attempting to sing almost every episode. Deffo adding to my drama playlist.

It's been grand reading all you comments. See you in comments on another drama somewhere out therr.

I really loved the final episode. lol poor HK getting blocked by his injury :P  Maybe since we did not have any conflict or high stakes situations it could feel empty. But to me I am glad we could see them finally enjoy dating life without anyone meddling. Also after that 1 year we could see them being well established couple still stable. glad for them still  being silly and bantering but also communicate well. Just the couple we got to know and love.  Also love the simple proposal from HK. Just simple but sure words from him.  Also so wonderful to end the drama where they started their dinner journey!

I do think DH needed time to be sure about marriage. Just seeing her parents bad marriage do not surprise me that she is hesitating going into it herself. So do not mind that they did take their time to just date before marriage talk.

Aww  really loved the meal between DH mother and HK. I am sure she is becoming his second mother and really love that they grow a strong bond. Yeah he really is the best son in law you could ask for.

Also glad to see JH is getting better. So him and K have been traveling around and doing labor work. well it is true that doing works do take you out of your head space. After learning more about him I can not feel more than sad for his troubled mind.

Also want to say I am glad NE seems to to do great herself. I actually like her better like this. :)

Have to laugh that AY and K got the separation route that the lead couple often got. But happy they finally got together again and got married. Like DH said they are really  the brave one after all.

So last thank you all here for sharing comment about this drama. Have been fun being here to swoon over our OTP :D

Me, too.

But I was thinking that we didn't just have two happy couples at the end because there were actually 4 and a chance of a fifth.

We had the romance blossoming between So-Ra and the chunky producer whose name I never learned.  He turned out to be a sensitive nice guy,--just the sort of guy SR wanted and needed.  I'm so glad the the writer gave him a chance of happiness, too.  They made a great couple.

We also had a very, very low-key romance between HK's nurse BJ and the useless cousin GW.  Surely I'm not the only one noticed this.   We could hear BJ say "why are you trying to hold my hand" before GW put his arm around BJ's shoulders--this was in the scene as they were about to hear AY and Keanu's marriage announcement.

As to the fifth, well, it's the exes.  Somehow it seems only right that they console one another.  I never liked either of them but everyone is worthy of redemption so I'm glad they had a glimmer of hope with one another at the end of it all.

Can't believe the drama ended without a callback to Tae Jin Ah singing "Run Across Her" (preferably at the OTP's wedding.) It was the like the easiest set-up ever. The finale seemed rather lackluster, as if they had already gone over-budget. It was a bit of a whimper-ish end compared to such a strong beginning, but ultimately a satisfying watch.

Could have done without the happy ending for the lying suicidal stalker with daddy issues. Dude should be in jail for all the stuff he did (fraudulent reporting, setting up the accident at the studio, breaking into Do-Hee's apartment).

Well all good things must come to an end! Thoroughly enjoyed Dinner Mate, with its ups and downs, and I am really happy with its realistic ending. The last episode is set like 1 year after, and it is good to see the relationship between the leads become solidified. It was good to watch their nonsensical spats, pretty much like with real couples, and see them planning their future. Ahh, I do really love a good romance, and in large part, Dinner Mate has really been a fun ride. Plus factor, I am really into the OST, it will be in my playlist for a long while.

Cheers to everyone on this thread!
