In the ep 7 preview, is it possible that Dae-Hyun was in the motorbike’s accident? And then his family call Saet-Byul to come back to help the convenience store when Dae-Hyun needs time for treatment and recovery. Maybe it can be the unexpected event that will bring them back together?

(Sorry to cut your post)

I don't think it is him as the one in the motorbike accident has long hair, SB is the most likely to be the one in the accident.

Spoiler

She might be brought to the same hospital where she was hospitalized before. The hospital staff might call DH as he was the one registerred as her guardian.

@vaelya If your theory is right, I feel so sad for Saet-Byul. Why does this poor girl get hospitalized so often? The preview video is so fast-paced, and I couldn’t see if the long hair is obvious, but I think it can be her, and the accident might bring them back together.

There’s a new translated article from JCWglobalsupporters fanpage I want to share. It’s very good news!!

@stroppyse yup exactly I agree with your comments! The drama is still stuck on the yj and dh dynamic with no development for dh and sb! The stuff that dh is doing with yj is what you usually see being done with the main female lead, so I'm kinda gutted that all this angst is between him and yj. And I'm kinda over it all where are my sb and dh scenes:wacko:

If it were any other drama I'd have rooted for them but sb is the fl so I need the daebyul ship to start sailing ASAP!

@stroppyse I also think it’s too dragging for DH and YJ’s relationship in ep 5-6, but we gotta be patient. The romance between DH and SB is slowly building up until it blooms. They have to make DH’s affection for SB realistic and convincing because he still has a girlfriend.
The peak of a romance relationship can happen in the middle of the drama, but I think in Backstreet Rookie, we will see the bloom of SB and DH’s romance in the very end, maybe episode 16. Calm down and be patient to see how their relationship will develop and what kind of obstacles they have to resolve before they can fall in love deeply with each other. :rolleyes:

The webtoon is also very dragging for DH’s love to his girlfriend, so I don’t expect the drama will make DH to fall in love with SB too quick.
JCW also said in an interview with 1st Look magazine that this drama is sometimes similar to a sitcom. It is the way it is. The genre of this drama is action, romance and comedy, so that’s why they make Saet-Byul have a lot of fighting scenes. LOL :lol:

As long as this drama is entertaining and fun to watch, it is good enough to me. Beauty is in the eyes of the beholder, so I don’t expect that other viewers of this drama have the same thought like me -_-

As I say, BR is a quite realistic drama so although I also don't like how the show keep dragging DH and YJ relationship, it can't be helped because in real life, you don't break up so easily unless you are a player. Moreover, DH character is designed to be such a nice guy that will do anything to maintain the relationship. This is where our patience being tested, normal drama will only give this bitter medicine near the end of the drama while BR let us eat the bitter medicine first before they may give us the candy LOL.

@kiefshi1056 If the link to read the manhwa “She’s too much for me” on Manga18 doesn’t work, you can try to read it on Holymanga instead. Toptoon.com is the legal and original site to read all chapters of the webtoon in Korean. It used to have a legal English version  of Toptoon , but no more. However, I think Toptoon.net is the legal site to read it in Chinese. It’s not free, and you have to pay to read it.

Do you know that the Grim Reaper in Dae-Hyun’s dream is actually an original character from the webtoon, ha ha...I saw him in chapter 29.B)

Instead of an intense forced kiss from Saet-Byul, the drama only gave us the innocent piggyback ride. And of course I don’t expect any bed scene in the drama. LOL :lol: The wild kiss in Saet-Byul’s dream in early episode 3 was already a big gift that the scriptwriter and director want to give us. :wub:

thank you very much. i am not expecting bedscene its jut i was to see them more sweeter and cuddling each other when they are already in a relationship. You can see how lame the relationship of DH and the Richie rich Girl :D i dont want that kind of affection

"unpredictable rom com" is a nice description for this drama. Ep6 even feels like a melodrama.

I like the story so far, but I think the arrangement of scenes is unbalanced. When I jump from one episode to another, sometimes it feels like 2 different dramas (LOL). It's strange to see the huge difference between eps odd 1,3,5 and eps even 2,4,6, feel like two different writers.

I'm not satisfied with the fight scene of Saet Byul in ep6. It's quite fun but not good enough in term of martial art.

That fight scene in ep 6 might be a parody of some famous movie that we don’t know. Their fighting movement looks similar to some old Hongkong action movie (maybe “Once Upon a Time in China“ featuring Jet Li ), but actually  I’m not so sure what it is. ^_^

@JiMerlin The one episode that sticks out like a sore thumb is episode 5... Although episode 5 has very important parts for the Dae Hyun - Yeon Joo - Saet Byul triangle. I think that the problem most have are the passing difference between episodes. Something you often control in the editing room.

Also one problem is the use of Dalsik is dumb at times. They could have used him as a way in to Dae Hyun's mind: what he feels and think. Just like we are using Saet Byul's friends as a means to understand what has/is happening in Saet Byul's life.

So if you changed or removed some parts we will end up with 5 episodes instead of 6 episodes. :headbang:That is a whole episode of Dae Hyun and Saet Byul fan service we won't get. :dead:

Yes the music is from Once Upon A time in China (feat Jet LI)

Jet Li has also done a movie called the Tai Chi master (Jet Li plays a character that gets hurt, and "While recuperating in the countryside safe house with the help of Siu-lin, he has a sudden epiphany that regains his mental health, and begins using natural phenomenon as inspiration to create a new style of martial arts which uses "soft" movements to offset power, speed and strength." (that is Tai Chi)

So there is a lot of references in this fight scene. Also I know that they use the Praying Mantis style in Shaolin Tempel 3 (a Jet Li movie)

Who would have thought that my love for Jet Li and Wushu movies would be of use when watching an Korean RomCom

:please:

@Yuui Wow, you’re so resourceful in Jet Li  movies!! Thank you for your confirmation. :P

The Grim Reaper in Dae-Hyun’s nightmare is played by Do Sang Woo, who is also director Cho Seung Joon in this drama :o ! With the thick makeup, we can barely recognize who he is, but fanpage Jichangwookglobalsupporters pointed it out.

@Tuvi Girl

Hahaha... I was like "What are you doing?" when I saw Dae Hyun being so relaxed on the hospital bed. I thought it was nice though he didn't go to see Yeon Joo the next day but went to see Saet Byul instead.

:please:

@stroppyse

I completely understand your sentiment. As I said before I don't think Backstreet Rookie is an easy drama to root for. It does have a lot of problematic elements, mainly Dalsik, but I also think a lot of people who are criticizing the drama do so based on the first 2 episodes. But anyways... I think the drama is causing so much buzz and unfortunately not always for the good reasons. And the good reasons are Kim Yoo Jung and Ji Chang Wook. The drama rose to 8% ratings because of the scenes with them. So why isn't PD-nim making more use of them? It's definitely frustrating! And actually if there weren't so many hints that Dae Hyun fits better with Saet Byul I would think the drama wants to end on the note that Dae Hyun actually stays with Yeon Joo. Even though episode 6 is kinda working towards them separating.

I also think like @vaelya that the drama is aiming for a more natural progression. But the pacing is a problem if a drama only got 16 episodes to tell the story. And specifically tell the story about two people falling on love. However I find it refreshing that Dae Hyun isn't jumping from one girl to another. But at the same time, I think the drama doesn't offer me enough reasons and no background story for Dae Hyun to explain why he is so adamant about staying with Yeon Joo. I think if I would understand why he is like that I would understand why we're in episode 7 next week and he is still with Yeon Joo.

But I think with Saet Byul quitting, the writer is working towards Dae Hyun's and Yeon Joo's breakup. How though? I think Yeon Joo didn't say without reason "We are having problems because of you, not because of us." And I'm sure they will find out that's not the case and that Saet Byul while not being the direct reason she definitely was a catalyst for all the problems to occur. I'm sure sooner or later it would've happened anyways. Since Yeon Joo was so set on not letting Dae Hyun meet her parents - and for right reasons, I don't know how her father is like but her mother is terrible! - and Yeon Joo apparently never met Dae Hyun's parents either. And at some point that would've caused the relationship to stall. So I think Saet Byul only quickened the whole process.

Anyways... sorry for my long rambling! I totally get where you're coming from. I can't believe sometimes I'm still watching. But at the same time I'm so rooting for Saet Byul and Dae Hyun. Together but also as separate entities. So I think I'm stuck until the end and I'm fine with it. Especially because of the great people here in the thread. :DBut I also thought episode 6 was a great episode. I meant it when I said: it was a powerhouse episode. I just think it would've been great if episode 6 was episode 5. We didn't need that episode. :lol:

And if we all want to root for anyone right now, then maybe Saet Byul and Ji Wook. :P

I just rewatched the scene and I really can't see it but in the Korean viewers I trust. Hahaha... and yes kudos towards the makeup department. What a great job!

:cutekitty:

And while I'm typing it I looked up the cameos in episode 6:

Kim Hyung Mok known from Fiery Priest, Kim Min Kyu of course :D and credited as "singer" is Kim Junsu (like THE Kim Junsu??) could he be the Grim Reaper instead or was it the song in the BBQ restaurant playing? I wouldn't know. Just wondering

@Yuui @JiMerlin

I also think there were some good parts in episode 5 but the overall episode was just... rough! Which is kinda said but what can we do other than moving on. :D
