Whenever I hear the words "the flowers of evil" I inevitably think of Baudelaire's Le Fleurs de Mal (poems about decadence and eroticism, basically championing the evil that people can do), and I kinda hope that the poems and the drama have no connection.  :o  Just wondering if anyone has mentioned?

@triplem @Sushimi @Jillia I think it's quite interesting that this drama is generating so much buzz in beforehand. I think the plot line sounds very interesting on paper, and that's why many are already this invested in the drama. :D

Anyway, I tend to agree that we can't yet be certain that Baek Hee Sung is a psychopath, but he for sure has a brutal past. What I found interesting in the script reading video is the part where he says:

"I'm the person who shows her only what she wants to see in me."

I am pretty sure that this story will be a true melodrama, because it's evident that he has spun up a lie and he hides his real self from his wife. He is like an actor in the marriage. I am sure that he loves his wife very much, but he is not true to her.

It must be quite exhausting for him to play that part - but I assume he does it because the reward is that he feels accepted and loved.

What fascinates me, is that she might not be fully herself towards him either, because she probably deep down knows that not everything is at it seems...?

So when the truth starts coming out little by little, it's going to be heart breaking for both of them. Question is will they want to be together anymore once they show their true selves to each other?

I agree with this wholeheartedly...

what if maybe he is not a psychopath ,maybe they just believe he is a psycho but the truth he is not just because he kill someone brutaly in the past and not know what the reason,...baek hee sung change his identity to hide his brutal past so he lie to his wife because he really love his wife and want to protect her...in my own thoughts,...flower of evil is so intriguing

That's what I've been thinking about as well. I think the truth might be something completely else.

Yes, so many ‘ifs’ and ‘ maybe’, as  PDnim said:” the story is completely unpredictable, you can’t guess who the characters really are...”

Coming soon - Flower of Evil!:w00t:

So, maybe... (another "maybe" haha), Baek Hee Sung is exactly that: a killer and psychopath. It's exciting to find out what's the truth! :D

Am I only one who actually wants him to to be a cruel psychopath?  I think him being innocent and misunderstood will be little bit less interesting. It's not very common in Kdramas for the male leads in melodramas to be dark. I hope that he actually used to kill people but stopped due to some reason (maybe related to Cha Jiwon *romantic me* ) and started to live like a normal person.

I don't why I have this weird obsession with male leads who are bad and ruthless but is very gentle and sweet to the female lead

Honestly, I think that would be a little weird. I hope the show doesn’t end up romanticising serial killers. But my guess is that he isn’t a killer but just a psychopath with restricted emotions and he is just learning and pretending how to care for his family. So the whole family image is just a front. Suspicions naturally arise because he is related to the real serial killer (his father) and when people find out his mental condition. I feel like the drama will eventually discuss about how do you define a “good” or “bad” person and maybe shed light on how it’s difficult to judge anyone by their mental condition on paper.

Just my guesses though!

Same here.  If he's an evil cruel serial killer, I'm out no matter how much I want to see LJG in a new role.

There is nothing wrong with liking what you like in fiction, doesn't hurt anybody.

I kinda like this too, but not when a guy is completely evil, but when he is capable of doing evil things and might have done some things of the sort. I think 'conflicted' and in love is my favourite type of ML. I guess I just like dark romance stories.

This is tagged as romance as well as suspense, a thriller and a melodrama. I am holding my fingers crossed that the romance in this drama is quite prominent. I'm also looking forward to watching a new drama with LJG :D

I didn't think about "romanticising serial killers" part at all. Right that's problematic. Your guess is also good about not judging someone's character because of their mental condition. Maybe they will show his adoptive father as a very friendly warm person who commits murder and Baek Hee Sung as someone who is not social and have psychopathic characteristics. They might prove that not every seemingly good person is good and not every seemingly bad person is bad.

I love "Byronic heroes"--you know, the wounded broody type. This has NOT been a good thing  in real life, trust me--much pain and not worth it--but in fiction, it's all good.  So, if LJG's character is like that, I'm in--fictional brooding, damage, and angst can make for great dramas.  But I'm kinda feeling anti-any-kind-of-violence these days, so I really do not want to see him aggrandized as a serial killer.

@thistle I am the same. There is a line for me as well. Psychopathic characteristics is one thing but being a serial killer is totally another. I am very excited for this drama as a fan of both LJK and MCW but I will drop it too if they go with romanticism route.

oh the first poster is intense!

YAYYYY POSTERSSSS love both versions - Melodrama & Suspense!

I'm here dropping my translation of the main poster article. CANNOT WAIT

Lee Joongi x Moon Chaewon’s ‘melo-pense’(melodrama + suspense) “Flower of Evil” main posters out

tvN has released two main posters for “Flower of Evil,” its upcoming Wed-Thur drama switching between melodrama and suspense.

Set to premiere in July, tvN’s “Flower of Evil” is an intense emotional chase thriller about two people facing the truth they want to avoid, Baek Hee Sung (Lee Joongi) who’s faked everything including love and Cha Ji Won (Moon Chaewon) who’s started to suspect his identity.

The production behind-the-scenes released earlier gave us a sneak peek of director Kim Chul-kyu boasting the script’s originality and the fantastic teamwork of the cast, promising a well-made drama. The two main posters released today (June 3) catch our attention with two completely different visuals.

The first Melodrama version shows the backlit silhouettes of Lee Joongi (Baek Hee Sung) and Moon Chaewon (Cha Ji Won) looking affectionately at each other in the warm sunlight. While their facial expressions hidden in the shadow pique our curiosity, their hands caressing each other naturally as a loving couple of 14 years are filled with longing and affection, making us look forward to an intense melodrama.

The Suspense version, however, reveals the things hidden in the dark, capturing the two in a completely different atmosphere. Blood stains on Baek Hee Sung’s arm and uniform and the red police light illuminating the couple increase tension, while the hands that seemed to caress each other now look like grabbing each other’s necks, giving off a dangerous vibe.

Baek Hee Sung as a “man who fakes love” turns cold as if he’s been caught red-handed and Cha Ji Won as a “woman who even loves the danger” stares at him looking shaken. It makes us feel the tension between the two, who end up facing the truth hidden behind complete trust.

Viewers are waiting to see what kind of unpredictable story these two people will tell us in “Flower of Evil,” which raises a shocking question: “What if your husband you’ve loved for 14 years is suspected of being a serial killer?”

Flower of Evil is premiering in July.
