Lee Dong Wook And Jo Bo Ah Confirmed To Lead New tvN Fantasy Drama

Lee Dong Wook and Jo Bo Ah will be uniting for a new drama!

On December 26, it was confirmed that the actors will be starring in “Tale of Gumiho” (working title), which will be the first drama to feature a male gumiho (a mythological nine-tailed fox) in the lead role.

The upcoming drama follows the life of the gumiho Yi Yeon, played by Lee Dong Wook, who once ruled as a living god of the Baekdudaegan Mountain Range but now works as a sort of public official between this world and the underworld. His main job is to clean up the mess left behind by those who disturb the world of the living while hiding behind the guise of ghost tales. He boasts stunning looks, high intelligence, and great athletic abilities, but he has a self-righteous personality and can be violent at times.

Jo Bo Ah is set to play Nam Ji Ah, a producing director (PD) who is producing a program called “Finding Urban Legends.” She may seem like your average director, but her colleagues describe her as a “gutsy woman.” From boldly diving into a religious cult to excitedly entering haunted houses, she is fearless when it comes to getting content for her show. As a result, she has gotten the most requests for an injunction against broadcasting, and her attendance at the media arbitration committee is the highest out of anyone. She is extremely competitive and has a knack for billiards, arcade games, shooting, and more.

“Tale of Gumiho” is scheduled to air in 2020 via tvN. It will be directed by Kang Shin Hyo and written by Han Woo Ri, who previously worked together on OCN’s “Children of a Lesser God.”

Everything You Need To Know About Actor Lee Dong Wook’s New tvN K-Drama Coming Soon

It’s going to be one amazing show!

Actor Lee Dong Wook, perhaps best known for his Grim Reaper role in tvN‘s 2016 Guardian: The Lonely and Great God, will soon be gracing the channel again in his new K-Drama this year. The cast for the upcoming series, The Tale of Gumiho (working title), have reportedly begun rehearsing the script on April 13, 2020 — and the news has really built high anticipation. Here is everything you need to know about the drama at the moment, so that you can slip right into binge-mode when it premieres!

1. What Is A Gumiho?

gumiho, pronounced goo-me-ho, is a mythical creature often found in Korean tales and legends. As the name suggests word-per-word, a gumiho is a nine (gu) tailed (mi) fox (ho) with the ability to turn human, often female, to seduce other humans. In fact, some legends go as far to make gumihos dangerous creatures that survive by eating human hearts and livers.

2. Who Is Going To Play The Gumiho?

In the upcoming series, Lee Dong Wook will take on the role as an unprecedented male gumiho Lee Yeon — which is another good reason to keep your eyes on the premiere. The producers have revealed this much: The gumiho Lee Yeon, who used to be an almighty spirit looking over the country, is now a “cleaner-upper” of spirits that cause ruckus in the human world. This gumiho is irresistibly attractive, intelligent, and athletic — almost too perfect to be real. His heartlessness, though, may give away that he indeed is not real.

3. Who Is The Female Lead?

The female lead character Nam Ji Ah will be played by the talented and gorgeous actress Jo Bo Ah. As a fearless television producer working at a broadcasting company, Nam Ji Ah is constantly chasing all kinds of horror stories to feature on her show “Looking For City Myths“. She has a heart of steel and a will of iron — both too strong to stop her from digging deep into these myths that could, potentially, be dangerous for her.

4. Is There A Villain?

No one can be sure if the role Lee Rang is actually a villain — but according to his description, revealed by the producers, he will definitely be the most seductive supporting character we have ever seen. To be played by actor Kim Bum, who will be making his comeback to the screens after four years of hiatus and military service, Lee Rang is the gumiho Lee Yeon’s stepbrother. Unlike Lee Yeon, Lee Rang is a half-gumiho. He lives among the humans but despises them. As entertainment, he tricks humans into sealing inescapably brutal deals with him. Lee Rang is, by far, the most evil fox to have lived.

5. When Is It Going To Premiere?

This “urban fantasy romance” K-Drama is scheduled to premiere in August 2020.

Scheduled to air on August 26 upto October 14, 2020.

We've already seen JBA's hairstyle but what will be LDW's hairstyle? Will his hair turn to blond / white every time he turns to his gumiho self?

@rocher22 Thanks! That photo of JBA wearing red is from her new endorsement video ads (AHC skin care product) so I attached here on spoiler of her video invitation for a mall event for this product. I don't know if she'll be there in that event.

And here below it is said that she will be coming out in the pictorial May 2020 Nylon magazine issue. I don't know if she mentioned something about her new drama Tale of Gumiho in the magazine interview. But I wish she revealed something about it though... And wish I could get some news from LDW and KB too. :P

I like JBAs hairstyle for this drama if it will be similar to this one

in the pic.

I like it when LDW has a slightly longer hair.

I like this JBAs pic for Nylon magazine. Natural.

@beyaruthHopefully there will be some news about our drama soon.
