Just putting it out there. Do you think Sun has put a  bureau to stop any others from winning the lottery.

I know this may sound far out but he may also be Sigma! The first thought that crossed my mind at the end of the episode with that man drawing a cat . Is that our Sun!!

Now we need to know if Sun has any affinity towards cats!

Now we need to know if Sun has any affinity towards cats!

Most logical explanation for now :

Sun played and won lottery (thank the Seo Hae numbers). Control bureau survey lottery and catch him. Then they blackmail him (threatening family as his sister). Order him to spy Seo Hae, so have a better control on her than just to try to kill her.

So, it's why he come to save Seo Hae with no apparent reason to know she need help here and now, and ICB teams don't shoot them, and why ICB chief tell to Jung that the Sniper shoot was already considered as unsuccessfull before he try.

It's a theory and not mine ! I just got it from a clever comment on MDL.

Out of curiosity, I read the recap of episode 5 on a website, written by an experienced drama viewer. I was amazed that the author asks some questions that have already been answered, including one important point: how does time travel work?
So this is a sign that a point on this subject would be useful, because if even the most experienced spectators are in trouble, those who are less experienced are even more so.

Sisyphus: How does time travel work?

Introduction.

What makes Sisyphus an exceptional drama is the principle of how time travel works. Something completely original, with one exception.
My favorite time-travel movie, Primer, used a similar system (still not the same). Shot in an almost pseudo-documentary way, the movie has a strong scientific aspect. This leads one to believe that this system is realistic, even possible, compared to other time travel systems.
The Sisyphus time travel system proves to be even more realistic, perhaps not from a technical point of view (arbitrary teleportation), but from a theoretical point of view, if we admit that the Sisyphus time loop is unalterable. In this case, the film respects some incredible, yet true, principles of quantum theory, applied to the macro rather than the micro scale.

Downloader and Uploader.

To work, time travel needs :
- A downloader, located in the past.
- An uploader, located in the future
.
This means that it is impossible to travel in time BEFORE the downloader is started.
The system works like a quantum teleportation process, teleporting objects or people from the uploader to the downloader, not only in space, but also in time!

During episode 3, Tae Sul makes a demonstration of his small quantum teleporter. This device, and he doesn't know it yet, is a technology combining both functions: downloader and uploader. He uses it to teleport a sugar cube into space, 2 meters away.
- Tae Sul is unable to imagine that the system can be applied not in space but also in time.
- Tae Sul makes a pertinent remark: a human body is too complex compared to a sugar cube to be teleported with this technology. In reality, if the drama was 100% realistic, it could only teleport quantum, or nanoscopic, objects, such as a molecule. However, it is clearly preferable that the invention be presented as slightly futuristic, first for the need of the scene, and to make it more sexy and visual, and also to make it easier for the viewer to accept the idea that this technology could be applied to the human body.

Confusion generated in the spectators.

The problem is that spectators know that there will be a time machine, built in the future, by Tae Sul. First of all, they are not surprised to see people coming from the future to our time.
However, there is a catch: they then learn that the machine of the future is only the Uploader! Then, that in order to work, you also need a Downloader. How is it that people from the future are already there, if there is no Downloader?

Creation of the Downloader.

We see the device several times in the very first episodes, during flashbacks with his brother, in the workshop of the hut. We even learn the year when he programmed the device during episode 4! And this is fully confirmed at the beginning of episode 6.
Tae Sul has already created the downloader in 2001! But without knowing that this device could be used as an antenna to receive the quantum structure of objects or people, from a device made to transmit.
It is assumed that the downloader he created is a prototype, which will be useful for the creation of his future quantum teleporter.

Creation of the uploader.

The device has not yet been created. If it is not created in the future, this will create a paradox, since the appearance of people from a future where the device exists is inexplicable. Or else, we must assume that these people come from a previous time loop, an alternative timeline.
The uploader is created in 2021. Information given by Seo Hae during episode 4.

First conclusion.

A traveler from the future must come from the year 2021 or later.
A traveler from the future cannot travel to the past before 2001.

Start the downloader.

This event presented in episode 6, takes place on 06/08/2001 around 10pm.
It's the very first time that Tae Sul managed to get the device working!
As soon as it is switched on, the device emits a kind of EMP around the hut, which interferes with the high-voltage lines supplying Seoul. As a result, the power supply to Seoul is interrupted for a few moments.
And immediately, a traveler from the future appears on the rails of the Seoul subway.

Why here? Right where Tae Sul's brother is? It's hard to answer that. We don't know how the choice of the destination in space works at the moment, except that the destination is within a reasonable range of the downloader (it should be impossible to get to the moon).

Why now? It's an extraordinary thing, as soon as the downloader is started, a traveler appears.

Two explanations for this.

Explanation 1:

The uploader doesn't allow to choose the date of appearance. By default, the first time it was started, it automatically sent the traveler to the furthest point in time where it was possible. In other words: the start of the downloader. This represents a jump of 20 years back in time.
From this it can be deduced that subsequent trips are also subject to this principle, by applying a constant and simultaneous temporal shift between past and future. The trips are all made with a time lag of 20 years. If someone leaves the future in 2025, he will arrive in the past in 2005.
Concerning Seo Hae: if she is 9 years old in 2021, then leaves the future in 2040 at the age of 28, she will arrive in the past in 2020.

Explanation 2:

As the first traveler comes from the future, he already knows the information about the first start of the downloader. The best way to control the time loop (if it can be modified), is to arrive first, so that you can cancel later modifications of the loop produced by others. (principle of the Failsafe machine in Primer).

In any case, arriving first also has other advantages, use of the information obtained over the period 2001-2021 to gain power. Lottery, stock market investment, or... investment in the company Quantum & Time.

The plans of the downloader in the suitcase.
It is likely that the first traveler (Sigma, obviously) has at least the plans of the downloader with him. Thus, he can make another downloader than the Tae Sul one, still in prototype state, and likely to be inactive most of the time.

Time loop of Sisyphus.

In the movie Primer, we follow time in a linear way. If a journey takes place, a new timeline is created, overwriting the old timeline.
It is much more difficult to follow time this way in Sisyphus. First of all, because the drama plunges us into the heart of the time loop: it shows the events already generated by the arrival of travelers from the future. It is not possible to trace the succession of events in a linear way. Such as: how did time work in the very first time loop? One can imagine it:

First loop.
Tae Sul starts the downloader, but no time traveler appears. His brother does not appear in the sky during his plane trip. None of the characters from the future are there. Then in 2021, he creates the Uploader. Somebody travels in time, the first time loop is created, which will be followed by many more time loops. We don't know if they are all the same, or have some variations.

My theory is more twisted:

There has never been this linear functioning of time during the period 2001 to 2041 approximately. There has never been a first loop, or a rewriting of the time frame during this loop, either to reproduce it identically, or to produce variants.
The entire temporal loop is fixed and immutable, fully integrated into the linear continuity of history, like a temporary bubble, but coherent, and without paradoxes. It can't produce any change of the post-loop future. This loop has always existed, an infinite number of times, or just once, if we admit that any change in this loop is impossible, and that events are destined to reproduce themselves always identically.

Delayed-choice quantum gum experiment.

This is a real scientific experiment. I invite you to learn more about the experiments of Bells, Alain Aspect and John Wheeler. And already, for a very easy initiation: the Young's slit experiment. An experiment that you can even produce at home, with screen, cardboard and a lamp! (I made it at science university, a long time ago).
In a very crude way, and I hope you will forgive my inaccuracy, it works like this :

Quantum objects states.
Quantum objects can have two states: particle or wave. What determines this state is the act of observation, disturbing the object. For the Young's slits experiment, a simple screen, a light ramp, and a cardboard between that can be set to either one slit or two slits. With a single slit, the light prints on the screen as a series of particles, with two slits, it prints on the screen as a wave. Question: how does light know in advance that there are one or two slits, and how should it stabilize its state accordingly? With two slits, why doesn't the light print itself on the screen showing two bands of particles?

Quantum intrication.
It goes further: a quantum object can be "split" into two objects, which are then referred to as " intricate objects". Once done, it is impossible to determine that they are different objects, these objects act as if they were a single object, located simultaneously at two different points in space.
This is very useful for the more complex experiments of Alain Aspect and John Wheeler.

Delayed choice.
Let's take a quantum object (photon, electron) and call its two intricate "clones" A and B. If the state of object A is changed, the state of object B becomes identical.
The experiment shows (in appearance) that object A can have its state modified according to the way it is observed. However, the experiment makes object B have a longer trajectory time. So that it can only be observed afterwards. However, the state and the trajectory of the object B will be modified "a posteriori" by that of the object A. It is as if at the moment when object A is observed now, it transmits the information to object B located in the past, to determine its trajectory. Or, at the moment when object B must determine its state, it receives information from the future from object A when A state is defined.
This would violate the rules of causality and relativity theory, except that in reality it is compatible. Indeed, it is impossible to know the state of object B before the end of the experiment. If object B was observed (because you want to know NOW what WILL be object A), its quantum state would collapse, and that of object A as well. Object A would not reach the measuring device in the same state as if B had not been observed.

This experiment is 100% successful, all the times you do it, zero error. It could even be done over a period of 200 years. Only, here again, it will be necessary to wait 200 years to know the result. You can't get benefit of the temporal retroaction for changing the past or know the future.
There is another point to know: today, some laboratories have managed to produce intricate objects larger than a single photon or electron. More complex and larger atomic structures.

Quantum theory applied to Sisyphus.

In the context of a science fiction story based on these experiments, and extrapolating from them, it gives this:
- In Sisyphus, the intrication process can be applied to macro objects (bodies, suitcases) and on a larger spatial scale (planet earth).
- The overall duration of the experiment is about 40 years (from 2001 to 2041).

One can imagine a scientist located in 2041, and looking at the result of the experiment. From the scientific point of view, all the information produced as a result is coherent. The state of the system observed in 2041 makes it possible to say that the state of all the objects located from 2001 to 2021 is consistent with the objects from 2021 to 2041. That the state of these objects seems to have been modified "a posteriori", but that it is only after the final observation in 2041 that it is possible to know the state of the objects. Of course, none of the characters in the drama are considered as observers, but as the objects of the experiment. They cannot modify the experiment or its result. And the scientist cannot observe the objects from 2001 to 2041. He has to wait for 40 years. If he were to observe the system during that time, the interaction produced by the simple fact of observing would cause the system to collapse, and the result would be different, but just as immutable.

Using quantum theory strictly, the Sisyphus time loop is presented as follows, within linear historical time :
Past - Loop - Future.
The loop is unalterable, it must be considered as a result already finished and already defined. All the events contained in the loop, even if they appear to be temporal recursions, are destined to reproduce themselves always in the same way. If the loop were to be modified, this would result in the complete rewriting of the "future" zone, until the end of eternity!
Of course, the drama misleads us on this vision of things, since it projects us into the very heart of the loop. Otherwise, the drama would take a narrator, located in 2041, and the story would start with "this is how things happened". It could also show the very first loop (as the example I writed before), but how could the drama do this, if this very first loop never existed ?

The genre of the drama has been changed from Science Fiction to Fantasy.
Also, it's not impossible that an event that is difficult to accept from a scientific point of view will appear. As a way to break the infinite reproduction of the time loop. Hope ?!
But even so, this is what a large number of movies based on time travel do, yet they keep their "science fiction" label. In a SF movie, causality is often a joke! Back to the future! :)

This big block of text is the addition (still fully rewrited in a more synthetic way) of the various scattered comments I wrote on the blog https://bitchesoverdramas.com/ that you already know, since we spend our time making complicated back and forth between here and there, to postpone the texts, alas sometimes partially. A bit like a downloader and an uploader and its 90% failure rate. ;)

Park Shin Hye And Cho Seung Woo Display Adorable Off-Camera Chemistry Behind The Scenes Of “Sisyphus: The Myth”

Park Shin Hye And Cho Seung Woo Display Adorable Off-Camera Chemistry Behind The Scenes Of “Sisyphus: The Myth”

Mar 7, 2021
by E. Cha

JTBC’s “Sisyphus: The Myth” has shared a cute glimpse of its stars behind the scenes of filming!

“Sisyphus: The Myth” is a fantasy-mystery drama starring Cho Seung Woo as Han Tae Sool, a genius engineer who goes searching for the dangerous truth behind his brother’s death, and Park Shin Hye as Kang Seo Hae, his savior from a war-torn future.

On March 7, “Sisyphus: The Myth” released new behind-the-scenes photos that capture the adorable real-life chemistry between its two leads. In contrast to the weighty, life-or-death-stakes atmosphere of the drama, Park Shin Hye and Cho Seung Woo can’t seem to stop smiling and laughing as they joke around with each other on set, leading to some adorable candid shots of the two co-stars.

The producers of “Sisyphus: The Myth” commented, “The chemistry between the actors is so fantastic that If we were to properly talk about it, our lips would end up hurting from how long we’d have to talk. I think that the reason [Park Shin Hye and Cho Seung Woo] were able to create the flawless chemistry they have now is that they trusted each other, both in terms of their acting and their teamwork.”

They continued, “With each new episode, Cho Seung Woo and Park Shin Hye’s A+ chemistry will heat up even more, and you won’t want to miss it. It will be one of the points to look forward to in [future episodes of] the drama. Please keep a close eye on the story to come and what kind of synergy their teamwork will create.”

Kim Byung Chul Talks About The Reveal Of His Mysterious Character In “Sisyphus: The Myth”

Kim Byung Chul Talks About The Reveal Of His Mysterious Character In “Sisyphus: The Myth”

Mar 7, 2021
by S. Nam

JTBC’s “Sisyphus: The Myth” finally revealed insight into Kim Byung Chul’s character!

Spoilers

In the March 4 broadcast of “Sisyphus: The Myth,” the actor behind the mysterious figure known as Sigma was revealed to be Kim Byung Chul. Despite his brief appearance, Sigma (Kim Byung Chul) left a powerful impression on viewers as a figure who already knows everything that will happen to Han Tae Sool and Kang Seo Hae.

Previously at the press conference for the drama, director Jin Hyuk had hinted that Sigma is their “hidden card” since he is the final villain. Before the premiere, the drama had also revealed three posters starring Cho Seung WooPark Shin Hye, and a third unidentifiable figure. Since the release of the posters, viewers have been trying to deduce who the mysterious figure could be.

Kim-Byung-Chul-2.jpg

Following Sigma’s long-awaited appearance in the sixth episode, the drama finally released a new poster revealing Sigma’s face completely. In the poster, Sigma has a frighteningly cold gaze as if he’s looking down on our world with an unreadable expression.

Kim-Byung-Chul.jpg

Surprisingly, Han Tae Sool’s brother Han Tae San (Heo Joon Suk) had known about Sigma’s identity since 10 years ago. Han Tae San had witnessed the moment Sigma arrived to the present as an undocumented person from the future. He had arrived with photos of Han Tae Sool and a list of dangerous events that will occur to Han Tae Sool in the future, including the shooting incident at the conference.

Since then, Sigma continued to hide in this world while keeping watch on Han Tae Sool. However, besides brief mentions of the Uploader, the time machine created by Han Tae Sool, nothing has been revealed yet as to why Sigma is observing him.

Regarding Sigma’s reveal, Kim Byung Chul shared, “When the identity of Sigma, who was hidden behind a veil, was revealed, I felt a slight thrill. When the silhouette poster was revealed before the broadcast, I wondered if there would be people who would recognize me despite the silhouette, but no one did. Thanks to that, we were able to generate more curiosity and tension.”

Kim Byung Chul explained, “Sigma is an undocumented person from the future like Seo Hae, and it would be great if viewers could anticipate with curiosity as to what goal Sigma has snuck into South Korea with.”

Finally, Kim Byung Chul commented, “I think one of the points to look out for in ‘Sisyphus’ is why Sigma is after Han Tae Sool and Kang Seo Hae and how their relationships are intertwined. Please look out for whether Sigma will be able to make his wishes come true.”

The production team shared, “Sigma’s face has finally been revealed. Although he has only been watching Tae Sool from the back, he will slowly begin to show his true colors starting from the future broadcasts, pulling Tae Sool and Seo Hae into an even bigger storm. Please show lots of interest in how the the appearance of Sigma will shake up the ‘Kang-Han’ pair’s journey in ‘Sisyphus.'”

“Sisyphus: The Myth” airs every Wednesday and Thursday at 9 p.m. KST.
