It's Friday and I am missing our dear Hyenas. I came across FMVs that I thought were nicely done. Looking back...it's really been quite the journey for these two. I really like the second one revealing GJ's "scars" and how HJ gradually helped her overcome them. Big kudos to him for never giving up on her. Still floating on cloud nine for them.

* For new viewers, please note there are spoilers ahead. *

I finally finished this drama tonight. It was a very entertaining legal drama. Of course the leads were amazing but I liked that this show was intelligent, funny and portrayed very matured and complex relationships. My only gripe is that towards the end, it got a bit unrealistic but hey, it was super entertaining. One of the best shows this year.

Man I love this drama!!!

First things first, does anyone know where I can get GeumJa's ringtone? the tune in this video..

Second... I love "not afraid to tumble in the mud" GeumJa, and I love Kim Hye Soo as "not afraid to tumble in the mud", rough and unpolished GeumJa even more. An A-list actress morphing into this legal sewer rat is peak TV viewing!! I'm literally obsessed with the show.... I'm all over Instagram liking every picture and video about the two!!

Third... their chemistry is too much, and dare I compare, even hotter than CLOY (which I think suffered from poor editing of romance scenes... really wasted two hot stars). I'm hoping they get together in the end, maybe running Song and Kim as the top partners while still squabbling like cats.

Being the unrepentant romantic that I am, I am especially invested in the progression of their romance. I love how open Hee Jae is about being in love with Geum Ja, and I cannot wait for Geum Ja's confession!! I love the payoff when a character who has a hard time with love finally decides to give in to the love they have received. So satisfying!! In the meantime, I'll happily wait as they dance around each other in supply storage closets and behind closed doors...

The tears in his eyes while they bickered in the closet..... I'm in love!!!

To answer Jung Geum Ja's ringtone, I found it!

"Good Investigation" (전창엽, 조남욱).

Oh congrats! It is a great recognition. I am happy for them and JJH’s Kingdom (which is the one I am rooting for drama wise) also got nominated! I believe his chance is great.

I want to congratulate Hyena team for all the nominees at 56th Baeksang Art Awards. They did not win any award but that doesn`t mean they did not do a good job. Just to be nominated is good. It was a pretty tough competition.

The nominees

Best drama, Best screenplay (Kim Ro Ri), Best actor (Ju Ji Hoon), Best actress (Kim Hye Soo), Best supporting actor (Jun Suk Ho)

The “56th Baeksang Arts Awards” Judges Share How They Came To Select These 5 Winners

On June 5, 2020, the prestigious 56th Baeksang Arts Awards held its no-audience ceremony — celebrating another successful year of Korean movies and dramas. The greatest hits from April 2019 to April 2020 took home the well-deserved trophies. In case you’re curious though, here are the details on how the Baeksang Arts Awards judges selected some of the winners.

1. Daesang (Grand Prize)

While the daesang candidates have not been revealed prior to the ceremony, the judges discussed the possibilities among When The Camellia BloomsMister Trot, and actress Kim Hee Ae from The World of The Married. When the actual voting process began, however, the judges in general showed a strong inclination toward When The Camellia Blooms. They commented, “Television nowadays must provide the viewers with both entertainment and social insight. When The Camellia Blooms did exactly that.” According to the judges, When The Camellia Blooms taught the viewers that the average citizens can come together and make big changes — which is certainly the most appropriate message that the society needs at the moment. The judges thought highly of the fact that When The Camellia Blooms emphasized “We’re all protagonists in our own ways” and thus, inspired them to throne it the Baeksang grand prize.

2. Best Actor

The judges shared that the votes remained split between actor Kang Ha Neul of When The Camellia Blooms and acter Namkoong Min of Hot Stove League until the final round. Ultimately, Kang Ha Neul had the honor of winning Best Actor — for his most believable portrayal of the character Hwang Yong Shik. The judges believed Kang Ha Neul boasted an excellent spectrum of emotions on the show, which is rare from the relatively young group of actors in their 30s.

3. Best Supporting Actor

Actor Oh Jung Se of both When The Camellia Blooms and Stove League won Best Supporting Actor with an unanimous vote from the judges. They commented, “Oh Jung Se successfully played two entirely different characters in his hit dramas — all the while making the viewers believe they are completely separate people. His ability to do this is simply irreplaceable.

4. Best Actress
The competition for the Best Actress award had been the fiercest yet. According to the judges, The World of The Married‘s Kim Hee Ae went head to head against When The Camellia Blooms‘s Gong Hyo Jin and Hyena‘s Kim Hye Soo. Eventually the judges came to agree that Kim Hee Ae’s deep understanding of — and the multi-dimensional portrayal of — the shattered-and-miserable Dr. Ji Sun Woo deserved to be awarded

5. Best New Actress

Actress Kim Da Mi happily took home this once-in-a-lifetime award — for her funky-fresh character in the webtoon-based K-Drama Itaewon Class. Judges commented that she and Hospital Playlist actress Jeon Mi Do had the judges bouncing back and forth until the very last minute. They revealed, “It was a really close call. Jeon Mi Do actually lost by a single vote.” In the end, Kim Da Mi’s rising and trendsetting presence in the K-Drama world deemed her more worthy of the super rookie title.

I just binged watched this drama and finished it overnight. I loved it. I love how they portrayed the strength of women working cooperatively as a team. The team they built were supportive of each other. For the first time in a drama, I watched two women who were romantically interested in the same man who did not pull each others hair or try to gouge each others eyes. Instead they acted intelligently and while they acknowledged that they were interested in the same man, they were still supportive of the other and worked together as a team. This drama was so much fun to watch. For me, it was like LL, I love that drama too. LL though was about redressing the past to make things right in the present peppered with lots of action/martial arts and of course romance. Hyena is about addressing and correcting the present wrongs in the system. Each character had a past that influenced how they lived and progressed in their present lives and their interactions with others. Therein lies the bad versus good drama. Team Hyena!!!!

Legal Eagles: 8 Must-Watch K-Dramas With Savvy Lawyers

Dec 22, 2022

Razor sharp interrogations, dramatic twists, strategic power plays, and maneuvering the moral high ground in the pursuit for justice… if you ever thought courtrooms were dull stuffy affairs, then think again.

Legal K-dramas rate high with their taut storylines of investigative plots, high octane court room action, and thrills and chills. From socio-political and economic issues to highlighting sensitive societal issues, these dramas are filled with moral questions, with just some romance thrown in to lighten up the mood. As the sharp-witted, perceptive legal eagles with a gift of the gab take center stage, they can be charmingly and calculatingly shrewd in their cause for justice.

So here is a list of eight legal dramas featuring some savvy lawyers who can outsmart their way out of the trickiest situations.

“Hyena”

Hyena-1.jpeg

Two rivals go to any lengths to get a case, and their sole focus is to defend those with deep pockets translated as chaebols and monied politicians. Jung Geum Ja (Kim Hye Soo) is an opportunist who has no moral qualms in twisting, manipulating, and blurring law books and codes of justice or injustice. Her sole purpose is to make money and get successful. Yoon Hee Jae (Joo Ji Hoon) is her polar opposite – he is an elite lawyer at one of the top law firms Song & Kim, and though confident about his abilities, he is many times outsmarted by Geum Ja in her quest for high-powered clients and wealth. However, things change with Geum Ja joining Song& Kim as a partner attorney. She is teamed with Hee Jae to investigate into cases pertaining to important and influential patrons, and their perceptions change.

“Hyena” has an intricate plot with two badass characters whose methods and means, though questionable, lay bare the loopholes and malpractices conducted in the name of law, politics, and business. As the male lead, Joo Ji Hoon shows a softer, humorous, and romantic side, while we get to see a tough-as-nails female lead in Kim Hye Soo. Geum Ja is a femme fatale who needs no saving but rather is one whom you may need saving from. It’s an intelligent, dark, and dramatic show, and our two leads will have you hooked from the first frame.
