tvN gave viewers their first look at Yoon Shi Yoon in “Psychopath Diary” (literal title)!

This upcoming drama is about a man named Yook Dong Shik who coincidentally witnesses a murder, loses his memory in an accident while fleeing the scene, and mistakes himself for the serial killer when he wakes up to find the murderer’s diary in his hands.

Yoon Shi Yoon will portray Yook Dong Shik who is a weak-minded, timid pushover. After believing that he’s the murderer, however, he sees the world in a different light and begins to change.

In one still, Yook Dong Shik cowardly sneaks a glance at something. Even when he’s grabbed by the collar by another man, he appears flustered and intimidated and doesn’t fight back.

Another still shows Yoon Shi Yoon trudging down a street at night with sagging shoulders. He looks as if he’s suffered all day long and has no energy left in his body. This makes viewers wonder how this weakhearted man, who has never gotten mad at others, will transform as he mistakenly thinks of himself as a psychopath.

A source from the drama said, “From the first day of filming, Yoon Shi Yoon roused laughter and pity with his  perfection transformation into Yook Dong Shik. His acting, which was the result of thorough character analysis, was awe-inspiring because of the look in his eyes, gestures, and tone. Yoon Shi Yoon’s surprising timid and spine-chilling acting will grab the attention of viewers. Please look forward to his acting which will be a legendary surprise.”

“Psychopath Diary” will be a collaboration between director Lee Jong Jae of “100 Days My Prince” and writer Ryu Yong Jae of “Liar Game” and “Time Between Wolf and Dog.” The series premieres sometime in November.

Man, am I psyched for this drama! Solid cast and most importantly a writer specializing in deeper topics (Liar Game). For a drama that explores/deals with the spectrum of human psyche (from the socially-inapt to the ultra-charismatic) and how the main character crosses from one end to the other, it would really require a steady hand to accentuate the nuances of the transition and tell the story properly.

While I can reasonably see comedic situations arising from a 180 degree change of a pushover, it would likely be comic relief for the over-arching heavy topic of how a psychopath can be awakened in anyone. All that is needed is a little push... (to paraphrase the Joker in the Dark Knight).

Let's hope that TVN does a good job marketing this drama, so that the ratings commensurate the promising story-line and casting.

@yoondonggu I was rather concerned when they kept hyping the comedy in promos.  Like you I was looking forward to something darker.  I can understand some comic relief thrown in because of the mix up in the story line but it needs to be balanced well.  Or it would end up being ridiculous.  Serial Killing is not a “funny” topic so to swing too much into humour just wouldn’t sit right.  Black comedy is fine though so I hope writer nim knows his way around well enough to navigate it well. :grimace:

Yoon Shi Yoon Is A Pushover Who’s Hesitant To Speak Up In Upcoming tvN Comedy Thriller

tvN’s “Psychopath Diary” (literal title) has released new stills of Yoon Shi Yoon!

“Psychopath Diary” is about a man named Yook Dong Shik (Yoon Shi Yoon) who coincidentally witnesses a murder and loses his memory after an accident that occurs while he is fleeing the scene. He wakes up with no sense of identity and mistakes himself as the psychopathic killer when he finds the murderer’s diary in his hands. Although Yook Dong Shik is a weak-minded, timid pushover, he sees the world in a different light and begins to change after believing that he’s the murderer.

The newly released stills of Yook Dong Shik shows his turbulent work life. With his head down, Yook Dong Shik looks nervous and in low spirits on his way to work. At work, Yook Dong Shik can’t even meet the eyes of Park Jae Ho (Kim Ki Doo) who was promoted before him despite entering the company at the same time.

Furthermore, Yook Dong Shik is being scolded by the team leader Gong Chan Seok (Choi Dae Chul) who takes advantage of his position of power. Even though Gong Chan Seok is poking Yook Dong Shik harshly with his finger, Yook Dong Shik stands by quietly without uttering a word.

Even during the company’s dinner outing, Yook Dong Shik hesitantly stands by, unable to join in on the cheers. Looking like a downtrodden pushover, Yook Dong Shik and his relatable struggles have raised curiosity about his character in the upcoming drama.

The production team for “Psychopath Diary” shared, “Yoon Shi Yoon, [whose character] lived in a position of lower status while being intimidated by his superior who takes advantage of his power, will deliver new excitement to the viewers as [his character] transforms after mistakenly believing he’s a psychopath and seeing the world from a predator’s perspective. Please look forward to it a lot.”

“Psychopath Diary” will premiere sometime in November.

@nrllee maybe the comedy tag is the hook to draw people in, this genre draws a bigger crowd than thriller/suspense after all. Just look at Crime Scene, a beautifully executed variety show about crime solving but always struggling with the ratings because it appeals more to a brainier crowd. Hopefully, its a "come for the laughs, stay for the suspense" kind of situation. So far, the thrillers/posters still give off a dark vibe, so I am not too worried that it may skew towards the ridiculous.
