Jules
Do you know what song also plays at every episode? It is usually the first song we hear. At the very beginning. But it's also not the theme song. We all know it. That's because The wind is Blowing is the main theme song.

Sorary
are we gonna seing next season ahn jeong won vs egg drop ??? or ahn jeong won vs bts ??? . i felt sin but it does make me good to seing jeong won felt kind loss like how he felt during geul wol being pick up by her supposed bf(we still need to get info if he know or not) . maybe because jeong won already get used his friend able to read him he always make geul wol felt clueless but he meet his match which is geul wol..geul wol make him crazy..and there was fanfiction.net were an episode were point how geul wol might be more crybaby than jeong won but not like jeong won who express his feelings geul wol the type who lets go and focus what she can do better . another scene i want to see it how both jeong won and geul wol adapt together when they lost the patient..how will they comfort each others
Popular Post 40somethingahjumma
It's true that I don't understand the fixation with flying the banner of a particular pairing even when the PD has come out publicly and contradicted detractors. There are many names for this phenomenon but I'm old-fashioned and I see it as disrespect for the PD. I have no problems with criticisms of the script or its execution (that's fair game) because we're end users of a product but the implication that the man is somehow prevaricating with no proof of the fact goes against the grain for me. If anyone has proof that PD Shin is trolling us, show us please... chapter and verse. Because as far as I'm concerned the writer and the PD (and YYS) have kept faith with us all throughout the first season. But at the end of the day I look at the whole issue primarily from the point of view of the writing and narrative logic. While I don't deny having preferences I try to take a dispassionate look the storyline from a writer's perspective. I've said this before and I say it again, every single thing in this drama serves a purpose. Aside from everything else others have sensibly said, Song-hwa's relationship with Jeong-won serves one purpose and that is to act as a sounding board for him. That's why we don't see a lot of scenes with them alone in the drama until the last two or three episodes. Because she is meant to listen and to tell him what she thinks about what he's decided. Her role is very similar to that of Ik-jun's to Jeong-won... to play the confidante and to help him come to terms with his own decision-making process. It is clear that she was never the catalyst to his choices regarding the priesthood. She was just someone that the writer used to help him come to terms with those choices and live with them. To give her approval and support him. That's the kind of dynamic they have. On the other hand, Gyeo-ul was a catalyst. A very powerful one that completely turned his life upside down as the ER flashback demonstrates. Why would the writer introduce her to have such a crucial role in keeping Jeong-won away from the priesthood if she ends up being purely a seat warmer? If Song-hwa is supposed to be the love of his life, why don't use her right from the start to stop him? What would be the purpose of bringing in Gyeo-ul and then chucking her to one side because suddenly Jeong-won sees the light and it's been Song-hwa all this time? It demeans Jeong-won, it demeans his struggle. The writer has to make a really good case for it. Why would Jeong-won fall out of love with Gyeo-ul after fighting not to fall in love with her in the first place? Why does it have to be Song-hwa and not say, Dr Bae or Hui-su? It can't be arbitrary. I read somewhere recently that they took about two years to develop the script. Well, I believe it. It's a very intricately plotted story and it shows in every scene and shot. 8 22

So for me I do some of this because I need to get something off my chest and because I'm discovering new things about the show all the time while rewatching it. Popular Post 40somethingahjumma
Further on from what I said last night, I think it's clear that Song-hwa's role in this season is primarily that of a Sage. The Wise Teacher. That's why I've always maintained that she comes across as an archetype. She guides, she listens and she corrects. In the last episode that's clearly where she's at with the people around her. There's a queue of people waiting to consult her and she revels in it. Even when others have other sorts of feelings for her, she maintains a high level of neutrality and objectivity. She is uncomfortable being perceived as anything more than a confidante and a teacher. She's certainly no longer the girl who had a crush on Ik-jun all those years ago. In Episode 6 I find this scene with Ik-jun instructive. She wonders if she has cancer and he says "I'll fix you". We know how he feels about her and how worried he is that he feels compelled to accompany her to get her biopsy results. But her answer is fascinating and it fits my analysis of her as the Sage. She doesn't spotlight the romantic undertones but gets straight to the practicalities of what he says. She says it's a dangerous thing for a doctor to say. It's an answer that a doctor should never say to the patient. And now that she's on the other end of a prognosis, she understands much better the limitations of clinical practice and the dangers of false hope. Looking at her onscreen interaction patterns across the season, it's largely with her NS students. Mentoring, critiquing and helping them find their place as a physician. Encouraging them. When she discovers that Yun-bok is a figure from her past, she tells her that she has grown up to be a wonderful young woman, implying that she is the elder. With Jeong-won she observes silently, guides, sounds him out. So when she raises the issue of marriage she's telling him he should be married based on her observation that he loves kids. From everything we see, her headspace isn't that concerned about marriage for herself. Marriage, dating... at this point in time that's for other people. Her job, as she sees it, is to help them get there, to support them through the process. Same thing with Seok-hyeong. That's why he listens to her and not the others. Because he knows that what she says is based on a careful weighing up of facts not just on personal bias. This is why people naturally gravitate towards her because even though she can be critical and forceful, she's not judgemental. Song-hwa, at least in this season, is a mentor and counsellor first and foremost. That is where her true passion lies at this point. The person that's her closest equivalent would possibly be Ik-jun. He's an extrovert that just does it with a lot of "haha" and charm. This is the role she plays in S1 at least. She doesn't seem to have a journey in the way the other Five do. So among the Five, the person with the most complete, fleshed out arc IMO would be Jun-wan (played out primarily in his interactions with Jae-hak and Ik-sun especially) and that's followed a few paces behind probably by Jeong-won, who is coming to grips with his own identity and calling in life. 6 17 4

I only found out about the significance of Pepero sticks whilst watching another KDrama recently. “Pepero Day is held annually on November 11, and is an observance in South Korea similar to Valentine's Day. It involves the gifting or exchange of Pepero snacks, a line of chocolate-dipped cookie sticks, with the intention of displaying affection for friends and loved ones. It is held on this day due to the resemblance of Pepero sticks, which are vertical that mirror the shortened date of 11/11” - Cr https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pepero_Day someone kindly did gifs (Kamsahmida). sillyvivian_yo22
@40somethingahjumma why are you always so good with words???? lol Your posts always make me feel things that i thought i couldn't feel I'm right with you that SongHwa's role for the season 1 too. Describing her as the emotional pillar is also spot on. She's not just the emotional pillar for the Lacking Five, but also for her juniors and everyone too. She always keeps her image strong, reliable, and not easily shaken. She has easily become one of my favorite kdrama characters of all time. And because she has portrayed to be so strong and reliable that the scene of her being vulnerable and trembling in nervousness in her car by herself before hearing her biopsy results resonates so strongly with me. It tells us that she is indeed human as well. That it's possible for her to break down, to be vulnerable just like others. She has just hidden it a little too well this season. I'm looking forward to what the PD and writer has in store for her development for the next season. 6 8 1

Arajo81
@40somethingahjumma Great point (as always)! It reminds me of a scene in episode 2 after Songhwa’s school friend with breast cancer is visited by her husband. SH watches them closely and Seong min says ‘are you envious? You should date too’. SH cuts him off by firmly stating ‘no, I don’t want to. I like being single’. Totally agree that SH’s focus, identify and passion are derived from her work. i believe she genuinely means it when she says she wants to be alone (ie it’s not a defensive deflection to change the topic). SH is determined and driven when she wants something - if she truly wanted to a partner or family, she would have pursued it ardently. SH doesn’t settle for a substandard situation or is clueless about her feelings - she’s very attuned to what she wants. That’s why it makes no sense that she’s passively in love with Jeongwon, a close friend for 20 years and sits around ignoring her ‘love’ while he’s single and available - it doesn’t fit with her ‘go getter’ character in any way. I absolutely love these other theories though, at first I was confused but now they give me a good laugh 12
