I don't believe that a guy like Jeong won didn't notice who had crush on who within the Fab five. He was the one who was suspiciously very silent during the funeral scene in 2nd ep. I'm sure he has many secrets. I just like to kidnap him one day and make him talk about all his hidden secrets. Do you like Gyeo ul? Do you like Song hwa? What happened in hawaii? LOL. He is a man of secrets. He is planning to be a priest and already practicing it. I would also like to know about HAwaii. What was that photograph in CYWorld ? Does JW sense that IJ likes Jang? IJ is not like that with other residents. Why just her? Is that why he is staying on the sidelines? Does he also know that IJ like SW ? Being together with the others - he has a keen sense - like how he was able to detect SW when she wanted to tell about breast cancer? I think he wants IJ to make a decision and may wait for it. To tell whom he likes and wants to have a normal life with. 43 minutes ago, nrllee said: Just looked. Yes she bought him (Bong) coffee. He drank his but she didn’t. The uniqueness about the coffee was that SHwa made coffee for JWon (Andrea). As per the music video for the original song Aloha (the girl there makes coffee for her lover). It was what they were talking about in her office. The song Aloha was playing in the background as SHwa was making coffee for both of them in couple cups (JWon and herself). So it has extra significance because PD and writer would’ve chosen this on purpose (they are detailed like that). I remember this scene. It was a thank you (to Bong) for something that one (SW) did for the other (Bong) . IT was not a coffee session with one another just like when SW made coffee for JW. So, we cannot count that. If SW makes coffee for IJ like how she did for JW, in just one of their sessions/ meets, then we could count that.
im0202 7,180
Episode 8 Making (subbed) Seriously JJS was being too funny in this... I don’t know how the rest of them (esp. JMD!!) managed to act with him with a straight face But filming these kind of scenes must have been so much fun for them 5 2
Popular Post 40somethingahjumma 46,406
I've been chatting with @kokodus offline and she persuaded me to post my thoughts on the latest episode. So blame her if you think I've gone off the rocker... Episode 8 was beautifully put together and was as usual a fascinating patchwork of contrasts. Right from the start we were given to believe that Yulje Hospital was a different sort of work environment which has been borne out in subsequent episodes. An organization owned by a deeply religious family... devout Catholics who weren't in the business purely for the money. Surprisingly the people at the top weren't in the grip of some existential power struggle vying to hold on to their positions. The spirit of philanthropy runs right through Yulje. We were also informed lately that Dad, the late chairman, was donating large amounts of money to an orphanage. Even while the family wasn't running the show... the hospital's ethos from top to bottom has been to treat its staff like family. To protect them while giving them a crash course in office politics. A game that still has to be played because human beings are what they are. I think we saw that in the case of the residents: Min-ha, Gyeo-ul and Jae-hak with their respective supervisors. The chairman and the director are kindly gents who really do care about their people and have a genuine understanding of what goes on in the coalface. They are not so far removed in their ivory tower of office politics. I've been wondering for a while now why in the world the show began directing our attention to the WinterGarden dynamic. For weeks now I've been told repeatedly it's all a one-sided infatuation on the part of Dr Winter. I remain unconvinced. In fact, after Episode 8, I'm even less convinced of it. In fact Episode 8 demonstrates in even clearer terms that something else is going on inside Dr Garden's headspace especially in relation to Dr Winter. So much so that it's giving him headaches apparently. Frankly I was surprised at how much development the WinterGarden dynamic was given in this episode. What was especially surprising was how much breadth and depth there was to both Dr Winter and Dr Garden interwoven into many of the events here. When all is said and done I have no difficulty believing that Jeong-won could be interested in someone like Gyeo-ul. Because if you strip away the title, the family ties, the white coat and the scrubs, at the core of Ahn Jeong-won is an adolescent boy. A strapping and inexperienced adolescent Catholic boy, to be more precise. We certainly saw that in this episode. It was practically sledgehammered into us with his PICU visits and then the overenthusiastic chatter for his patient's scat (toilet humour) while his friends were trying to eat. How much more thoughtless can you get? The man was utterly clueless and was well rewarded with nothing for his inconsideration. There have been examples of this side of him all throughout the show right from Day 1. His struggles with patients who don't make it and then going off to his brother to seek solace. Then threatens to quit medicine etc. From a previous episode we saw in the OBGYN-Ped conference that he had with Seok-hwan where he whined like a child over the scheduling of the baby's delivery. The interns' reaction said it all. The only person who was oblivious/nonchalant to the whinge fest was the carb-preoccupied Gyeo-ul. JW may be 40 but he's a veritable Peter Pan and his PICU residents are his lost boys. Sometime ago I joked about GU and JW being a match made in heaven because they were both virgins. And I think this is a much more important factor now that I've seen more of their dynamic in play. It's not that they're virgins per se that's important but that they're both inexperienced in romance. They're like a couple of teenagers groping around trying to figure out what to do with their feelings. Frankly I think she's doing better than he is. I get this feeling that our favourite pediatrician is running away from something. That's what I believe this application to seminary is about now. I have had this feeling for quite some time, since the third episode actually. Why after 20 years is he finally doing the priesthood thing? Why has it so coincidentally occured after he saw GU picking off maggots from the homeless man's leg? The timing is important. I think it was two episodes ago he said this of Song-hwa that she always puts up the appearance that everything is alright but is hiding something... Honestly he never said a truer word about himself. When he is with her, he is not his usual jovial self. I love how this shot is framed. They're both wearing blue and the background is blue as well. It's almost as if the space between them doesn't really exist and yet it does. He gets a little closer but this is his safe space. I never realised until this drama how tall and bulked up YYS is. I don't remember this from Mr Sunshine or Romantic Doctor. He is very athletic looking... I was thinking rugby. Why I mention this is because I recall that he is someone who goes for endurance sports. He's a big risk-taker with regards to his patients. He, I suspect, is drawn to her because of that side of things. JW doesn't do safe and she is a wildcard. I don't know what JW was thinking or feeling when GU got into the black SUV. But what I can say from other parts of the show is that he is very conflicted over her. He is certainly not neutral or indifferent. She rattles him in a way that he finds dangerous. That's why he's walking on eggshells around her careful not to cross the line. His conversation here is instructive. In fact, it parallels the one he had with Min-ha in the cafe but tonally different. Here he is curious, polite but guarded. He wants to know but he has to be careful how he says things because he can't give the wrong/right impression that he's actually interested. The look he gives when the car drives off is similar to the one in the ER when he was watching her with the homeless man. I don't think it's a coincidence that Ik-jun says to him... "You look like you've seen an angel." The wording is instructive. Why not "ghost"? The religious connotations are significant considering who it is directed to so my feeling is that JW sees her as someone that is out of reach for him. He is dazzled, mesmerized but fearful. She's Pandora's Box for him. Spoiler Their dynamic reminds me of a composite of high school romances that I've seen over the years. This is why I think it resonates with so many people on the web. He's like the popular high school jock/tsundere who gets loads of attention and pressies from the girls but remains largely aloof. But a new girl comes to the school who is a bit odd, rocks the boat and even stands up to bullies and gets his attention. You know the rest. It's actually a really cunning way to have a classic tsundere relationship without having a dyed-in-the-wool tsundere male. Make him a wannabe priest who's never (as far as we know) been in a relationship. It keeps the ladies at bay. But one gutsy girl shows up and he starts questioning everything he believes about himself. I've been re-reading Pride and Prejudice recently and JW's "she's not my cup of tea" reminds me so much of Mr Darcy's "she's tolerable but not enough to tempt me". As I always say, the show is extremely clever in the way that it uses and overturns traditional drama tropes. The WinterGarden dynamic is contrasted in a striking way with Ik-sun and Jun-wan's rapidly escalating relationship. Theirs is a very adult relationship by comparison... they're even sleeping together now. In fact, Jun-wan is so serious about the relationship that in his mind they're almost as good as married to each other. Notice how he goes back into the bedroom to give her a kiss before leaving. He prioritizes her. In fact, Jun-wan demonstrated in almost every way in this episode that he was the adult in the room. He took on the CS chief position despite his own reluctance to do so earlier because he understands that a lot of good and a lot of bad can be done by the person who sits in that chair. He also did some extremely hard things like break bad news to heartbroken parents, asked for the baby's heart for research and went to the baby's wake. To me Jun-wan is ready to leave singleness behind forever... to grow up and take on greater responsibilities. To be with the woman he loves, to protect his resident etc etc. I loved how he said in Episode 7 that these days there's something more important to him than golf. Jun-wan has been so impressive these last couple of episodes. And JKH always brings his A-game to everything. I reckon that this is his best acting since Life on Mars. And then we have the Seok-hwan's dynamic with Min-ha which is different again. It's very down-to-earth. I love the frankness between them. And I'm loving how he's opening up to her in a way that reveals another side to him. He's always been a very honest kind of guy I think and he appreciates her authenticity and frankness. Even if they don't become more than close colleagues, I like what I'm seeing here. That's why I said some time ago that this show's lovelines has resonances of A Gentleman's Dignity, an older K drama about 4 male best friends in their 40s with different love interests but all somehow interconnected. Sometimes I am so sorry that they're not setting up a loveline between Gyeo-ul and Ik-jun because they have such a wonderful student-teacher relationship. But that is all it is... sadly. That said, I love what this relationship reveals about the two of them. He's so kind and considerate of her emotions. And so supportive of her as a doctor and student, sticking his neck out for her. With him too, we see a more girly side especially when she confides about Jeong-won to him. Moreover I was so impressed with Gyeo-ul in this episode... She has faults to be sure but she doesn't lack courage. That's her strength. She is her own person, self-aware, comfortable with her own skin. She doesn't feel that she needs to change to be better for a man that she likes. If he doesn't like her so be it. Of course she can't stop liking him overnight... that's impossible but she's realistic, tough-minded enough not to be deluded about where she stands with him if he's lying to her. She can be true to herself in a way that he can't be. JW's rejection is important in so far as it showed us that GU has plenty of pluck. Bucketloads of it. If I didn't like her before, I certainly do now. I think we've seen that in the ER as well with the homeless man and the abusive dad. She's not emotional but feels things strongly enough to want to do better and be better as a doctor. I like the balance she brings to the people around her. I'm really excited with what the show is doing with the WinterGarden duo. Initially it looked like Gyeo-ul is the one who is lacking but in reality she has her emotions on a more even keel. Failure doesn't seem to affect her quite as hard. Her stoicism has its place. She doesn't take things personally. If Prof Ahn doesn't like her, well, it's not the end of the world. She can still be a colleague and maintain that level of civility. As far as she knows she took her infatuation to its logical conclusion. I certainly hope that JW can face his own emotional turmoil honestly whatever they are. 21 18 7 9

Prettysup 35,875
One question, aren't the doctors supposed to be working in the VIP department of the hospital or something? Apart from the liver transplant patient, the others seem to be normal patients though. Did I miss something ?
jeijei 12,898
Only 4 VIP rooms, and the current patient is the OB's father, who's not sick at all. Wakanda guy is the only apt doc among the 5, but OB made him promise not to treat his dad. It's either Chilbongie is wrestling with his feelings (resisting temptation) or feeling sorry for our winter baby. It's passion or compassion.
Myakyu 180
@Prettysup I think they are in charge of VIP departments. But when it doesn't really need much attention, they still could look after their non-VIP patients. In previous episodes, we have seen a bit of VIP Patients, like Go Ara's father and Ikjun's old friend's father situation. Oh, and Seokhyung's father as well.
kiklaminHo 12,229
@40somethingahjumma agree with all you said except one thing. As a big fan of crime /detective dramas the best role of Jung Kuyng Ho was in "Cruel City". " Life on Mars" is the second best. I know , i know he is such a good actor its hard for fans to decide his best role.lol We are lucky to see actors like him acting in different roles and bring always the best . 2

kokodus 58,124
@40somethingahjumma That's a wonderful breakdown of Dr. Garden and Dr. Winter's character dynamic. Thank you for deciding to post your thoughts here again. I don't want to invest myself too much into this ship. But after his spaced out reaction in 8th ep and reading your post now, I feel like I'm only going deeper into the Wintergarden hole like the rest of you here. Let's hope that we all come out on the other side unscathed. LOL. 4 8

Kaizen68 5,242
Why does it feel deja-vu? And I just remembered something, lol. And this one. His behavior is unusual tho. I am worried he will be Jungpal-ed because he is inexperienced with love and maybe doesn't like when someone stirred unwanted emotions. Lol. There is another similar scene too. Jung Hwan shocked after he open a gate and he saw Deok Sun. But I only remember this part in this episode. Btw, they even took from the same angle after the first parallel scene. 8 8

kokodus 58,124
@Kaizen68 Nooooooooo I will not allow anyone to get Jungpal-ed in this show. I see your point, Jeong won is soooo closed up and refuse to let his feelings out just like Jung hwan. What if by the time he decides to take control and act on his feelings, she is long gone. Ahhhh the Jung hwan flashbacks..... No no no I will not take this. -2 1 3 5
Sorary 2,152
@Kaizen68 if next episode we dont see jeong won action or his storie about his feel about geul wol then it will be long long gone wintergarden couple . it like how we always see jung hwan and deok sun scene then later there no more storie telling, thus it make deuk sun getting close toward taek and like nobita and sizuka she love taek cause she want to take care of him... . so here i cross my finger to see his side storie aboutbhis feeling..if none, means all the space out awkward feeling was cause his worries about his mom vs priest.. . we had few more episode..even the shin pd said it gonna be open eding at least cant they set out or answer certain question 1. who song hwa crush 2. what jeung won really felt about geul wol 3. hawaii secret 3
LovelyLady 4,122
I think Gyeo wool is one of the resident we don't have any background. I don't know why. We know she's a BTS fan with Min-Ah. That's all. Nothing about her family, her class,.. For example: Min-ha: was a lab tech before pursuing medicine, her parents own a restaurant or hotel in gangwon-do. She had a boyfriend 6 years younger,... - Seo Bin: her parents are rich doctors. Same class with Chi Hong,... - Jae hak: married, took the bar exam,.. -Chi hong: was in military with ik sun, retired because of his illness,... 10
