@nrllee I feel she have life outside her crush work wise , but it’s a good thing she working on her love life , for 29 she was focusing on her study & career so no harm will do if she focusing on to find partner in life now  :joy:

what the life without Andrea :D

Nah Andrea’s not gay.  More likely straight.  And is delirious in previews because likelihood is that his mom finally accedes to letting him join the priesthood.  You need to think of Andrea has having a gf now...his gf is God.  He isn’t married to God yet but he wants to “head to the altar”.  His mom is currently standing in the way.  That’s why Jang had no chance of being with him.  He’s already off the market.  His gf is God.  That’s why Bong said the girl who crushes on Andrea has to beat God.  It was a losing proposition from the start.  I hope writer will give her some other character growth aside from her crush.  Something like Capt Ahn who has now got a very nice character arc outside of his crush on SHwa.  He can stand alone as a character.  Jang currently is defined by her crush on Andrea.  Everything she does revolves around that crush.  Her choices. Her aspirations.  She needs to develop as a person apart from Andrea.  I am seeing writer potentially pushing her towards IJ ever so subtly.  We’ll see if that eventuates.

I’m a big Dr Jang fan here and I agree with you. I feel like she has more potential to develop as a stand-alone character. I love that maggot scene because it was so unexpected. She appeared indifferent, cold and blunt to the mother, but when it came to the homeless guy she showed her dedication through her actions (similar to JW). Dr Jang’s bedside manner needs improvement but she goes above and beyond for her patients (pulling maggots out with her hands, chasing the abusive dad, running with the liver). I love watching scenes highlighting her quirky behaviour, cold logic and social awkwardness (without malice), especially compared to more outgoing characters.

I ship the winter garden couple but I noticed IJ was the one who gave her the warmest encouragement when she safely delivered the liver. IJ is such a charming, capable and kind superior - I wonder if he could potentially be a better match if things don’t work out with SH.

I love the five central characters but does anyone else feel that sometimes they set the bar unrealistically high - they never seem to make professional mistakes, they pull off ridiculous surgery miracles, they show superhuman empathy for all patients and they never have any ethical dilemmas (no temptation for any bribery or misconduct). It’s really refreshing to watch the resident storylines in contrast.

Anyway can’t wait for Thursday!

I looked back to the all Previews and amazed on how they tried really hard to trick us with it :joy: they put some totally unrelated scenes and dialogues back to back, mix up the sequence, in order to give the viewer a wrong idea about what actually happen lol why

Don’t call that preview, that’s a trap!!

@Kaizen68, @nrllee, @Meqong @larus lol I am also of the view that JeongWon is not gay but I posted my post for 2 reasons

1. I was getting bored and I expressed it my post that this thread is so slow so I just wanted to share something so I did & lol look at the reaction from you guys . At least I got something to read.hehehe.

 2. This theory of him being gay is quite old , but I never paid attention but today when I saw it on twitter I thought maybe it is possible because ever since this drama was announced I have been reading a common line" any thing is possible with this pd". So I just posted it here.

They are good role models indeed. I totally get what you mean but people like them really do exist tho. We can see that they aren’t actually flawless. The story so far showed the ups and downs of each character and how they faced each of their own problems, i think it’s realistic enough.

Hmm, the writer can not make it more clear.

SongHwa is next to Dr.pediatrician in all posters so far.

Well I mean in Reply 88 Taek is standing in the corner and not even next to Duksun so who knows what's behind Shin PD's intention haha.

My translation isn’t perfect but I will have a go.

At the beginning as she’s filming the lunch cafeteria scene, the director tells her to do the “extremely cold version“ with IJ who then laughs because he’s not ready with the serving spoon

Shin Hyun Bin (SHB) introduces herself as: “I am Shin Hyun Bin playing the role of Jang Gyeo Wool” (JGW)

JGW introduces herself as: “I am JGW, a third year GS surgery resident”

The first question is ‘what do you think will happen to the one sided love for Ahn Jeong Won’

SHB says she is very curious and looks forward to finding out information on a daily basis. She hopes it ends well.

JGW says ‘it’s not true. Did Professor IJ say that? It’s not that...it’s just...’

Not 100% sure on the second question but it’s something like ‘if you could choose another resident to join your team who would it be’ and Seok Hyung (YSH) chooses JGW (IJ says no way)

SHB says (surprised) ‘thanks so much to YSH professor. Given there are a lot of residents in his team, I will continue to work hard in GS’

JGW says ‘Why did he say that, I have no idea’

There’s another question but I’ve run out of time. Anyway hope this helps!

@Arajo81 there is minimal hospital politics here. One guy was the top student of his medical class. Another guy was one of the top scorers in the nation. They are all Professors. I know the character descriptions say they are Assoc Prof. They are 40 years old after all. They finish or should have finished their Board exam around 35 years old or under.

The Obgyn guy is nice. But most all ObGyn are nice. None of them promise their patients will live they said they will do their best.

The GS is less arrogant than most GS I know but heck at 40 they should be close to their peak. The CS guy is arrogant and a lot of CS surgeons are arrogant. Neurosurgeons have to be rock steady for their techniques as it's the brain. And they don't flap about in real life if you're a neurosurgeon. It's not a specialty for the faint hearted. And by the way if they are Prof the long surgery times are not uncommon. It is progressive training to handle such long surgeries.

And most professors try to show empathy towards their patients. Whether they are tyrants to their team is a different matter. I am not trying to praise the writer.

But other than the hospital politics, not showing them doing research for journal publications, and they are single so yeah overtime is common. So what is it that bothers you?

Jeong Won the priest is empathetic. The Obgyn is empathetic. Jeong Wan doesn't chat as much and he is quite abrupt as per CS. Ik Jun is about the only unrealistic one being so nice. But then we have real doctors being so nice in real life. So * shrugs * the actual work writing doesn't bother me. And oh yeah- the surgeries are complicated but only some- but if the professors can't handle it who can? Notice the shorter simpler surgeries are done by residents under supervision. The surgeries names sound fancy but most of them are bread and butter surgeries. Jeong Won doing the liver transplant was the only one which jarred me as I am used to having surgeons specialising in it but then liver transplant is still less stressful from the brain surgeries.

I've done my Kdrama rounds tonight see you all Fri. I won't reply later.

Is Egg Drop the Subway of this drama!?!?? I swear if I see another lunch with Egg Drop I’m going to scream. It’s a little pet peeve but such blatant product placement in tv shows and movies annoy me so much lol. I mean their sandwiches look delicious, but enough. If it has to be there does it have to be so glaringly obvious. That and the chocolate they keep eating out the can...grr...make it subtle or stop lol.

ETA: since it’s hard to see humor in tone over the internet, the above is a light hearted humorous complaint. It’s not that serious and I don’t take it that serious (it’s not ruining the drama for me or nothing). It’s just so obviously in your face, like isn’t Dr. Jang tired of them sandwiches now lol. She should be like, “let’s order pho this time...burger anyone...Bueller...Bueller..” lol

@nrllee Exactly my thoughts chingu! Though I don't think her crush on him defines her. She clearly does her work, not for Jeongwon's sake but for her and her patient's. Though I understand you, most of her scenes involves him and we don't know much about her outside the hospital setting. I hope the writers touch on her backstory soon. I want to get to know you more Jang Gyeoul! :D

*Am I wrong to say that we haven't got a scene that shows her surgical prowess? I find that very odd cause we have Chi Hong, Jae Hak and Seok Min's surgery scenes but none for Gyeoul.

What's in store for Gyeoul in the 1st season?

I think her arc this season is about self development, first loves and heartbreak. I think she's the character with the most potential for growth. She has a long way to go to becoming an exceptional doctor but with Jeongwon and IkJun's help I have no doubt that she's on her way to becoming one. I ship Gyeoul and Jeongwon but I think a rejection is inevitable. It's just my opinion we still haven't got Jeongwon's side of the story so who knows maybe he might reciprocate. All I'm trying to say ineloquently, if rejection does happen I hope she toughens up and moves on. Life still goes on. What doesn't kill you makes you stronger, right? It's part of life's journey, though it's painful but  atleast she'll get something good out of it.

20200427-014726.gif

I can also see Jeongwon entering the seminary at the season finale. Try it out first to see if you really want it, right? Then he'll just stay there for a few months and realize that Medicine is his true calling. Because I don't see a season 2 with a member of the fab 5 missing. Like how can you shoot Hospital Playlist with a character down at the church? Lol. Plus I love this mother-son dynamic. Comedy gold! :P

20200427-015546.gif

I can see IkJun as a possible love line (I'm an IkJun-SongHwa shipper too but I wouldn't cross this one out) but they're more like brother and sister this season. If the writers plan to develop their relationship maybe we'll see it on season 2 or 3. But I can't deny the chemistry they have. I just find myself smiling whenever they're on a scene together. He adores her so much. Even if she doesn't represent IkJun at Dr. Bong's salon (I just find it cute and funny that Chi Hong, Minha and Jae Hak are members because of their respective professors, while Gyeoul totally abandons IkJun for Jeongwon. Talk about loyalty!:P

20200427-014036.gif

IkJun can end the season with no lovelines at all. Based on last episode's band montage, while the rest of the group had shots of their respective love lines inserted in their shots, IkJun had his patient and Uju. Tells me his priority right now is his job and Uju. Though I want SongHwa as Uju's future mom, we're not gonna get that this season. How do you rekindle a 20 year old romance? Let's just pray that Jo Jung Suk's lips be used properly this season... or the next.  I'm sure it's worth the wait.

Oh he was the last to be introduced on Ep 1, last to be involved in a love line (Ep 6)... What do you think that means?:o

I was formerly Team Junwan-Songhwa until their painful demise, at least we got Iksun and Junwan though. Now, I’m leaning towards a Songhwa - Jeongwon endgame. I personally think an Ikjun - Songhwa endgame is too predictable (quite boring if you ask me) for this particular writer. Anyway, we’re already in Act 2 of the drama according to news articles. They said we better watch out for changes in the characters’ relationships. It seems like some established and insinuated lovelines are gonna get smashed in the second half.

edit: Dr. Maggot and Jeongwon’s love line is a no brainer. It’s been doomed from the very start. In their scenes, Jeongwon always looks like he’s annoyed and can’t be bothered. Episode 7 is the start of the end for them. Jeongwon’s body language when he went out of the room to see her waiting for him says it all. When he saw her, he automatically assumed it’s business and turned his back on her while checking his phone. When Jang demanded him to buy her a meal, he was hesitant and quick to say they’ll have a colleague get-together instead. He was setting boundaries as he has been doing from the start.

I noticed that as well, he seems to be a bit hard on her and sets an extra set of line to make his point and set boundaries.....is it because as a mentor and it is because he senses that she likes him so he is trying to nip it in the bud. I mean it makes sense, he has no business fooling around and giving girls falls hope if he is determined to pursue priesthood. Gyeo Wool is also socially awkward so maybe that is why he doesn't want to be too friendly in case she misunderstands.....like Min Ah said, if he had whatsoever one ounce of feeling for her other than being a mentor to her, he would check on her once at the very least. I think this heartbreak is necessary for Gyeo Wool to grow so that if Jeong Won leaves his passion for becoming a man devoted to God, they are at least in equal footing in terms of maturity.

@andiamrea

You are a eloquent writer .I agree with everything you wrote.

I think if Ik Sun lost his chance with Song Hwa he should use these lips to

Dr.Jang. She deserves a first kiss from a person that really likes her ,adores her  and tries to help her.

@sonata

I ship dr Jang/Dr. JWon but I can see this ship is not going anywhere .It s one sided for sure.

But I dont see Dr.Jang to " Demand" from him to buy her  a meal.

She is trying to do the first step -kudos to her, make it clear and move on after- and she is asking almost begging him for that meal.

I dont see any demand there.

I did not see that side of her character .Not so far in any episode.

I dont know in next episodes.

When that happens then and only then we can accuse someone for certain behavior.

Spoiler

From the 5th minutes onwards, I am so horrified I can only gasp. I feel my arteries clogging up. The scrambled eggs then the mayo. More egg. Folded cheddar and more mayo. I honestly am not sure if it is worse than McD triple beef patties whatchamacallit burger.

As horrifying as it is I must say that Subway might be healthier. I don't actually eat either when in SK because I like Paris Baguette better.

Talking about PPL I am rewatching Boss and Me. There is a cocktail drink PPL there. There are cocktail bottles lined up alongside the female lead's bed. They drink the cocktails walking along a street. A classy baby full moon lunch and there are cocktails on the drinks table. Cocktails at dinner at home. Cocktails EVERYWHERE.

The Egg Drop shop sign actually looks pretty plain. I went to a few videos. This PPL has made my stomach churn. But yes I can see loads and loads of heart attacks and stenting for Jeong Wan then if the residents and GS aka In Jun die from eating them.

So wow. It's breakfast time here so wow watching the video made me feel ill. I am not a health freak by the way but sweet Korean bread, eggs, bacon all fried in butter. Laden with cheese/ mayo is just scary.
