Like I said, this is writer's style to make plot jump and off-scene (subtle)  developments for the sake of surprise element, so it's understandable that some viewers felt the flow is not too smooth and a bit abrupt, because viewers only see what shown on scenes. I shared the same sentiment about Junwan-Iksun build-up romance. But since this is just a little flaw of the writing/directing, I can put it aside .

 

I guess this one thing that makes this drama different. The time jump and also the fact that they try to fit in multiple stories into one without too many getting entangled with each other that it ended up a big mess. 

I feel that understanding the characters and trying to interpret it based on the story telling, on what the director and writer trying to highlight and tell os best - instead of reading into everything based on the right/wrong on how I or a typical best person would do.  Many more things happening between the scenes - either we find out during the flash backs or we could just assume that some things just happened - if it is not aired it is not of much significance. I guess there is also the pressure of trying to introduce and provide a background of all the main and supporting characters in the first season, while still trying to develop and wrap up some of the story as a build up to season 2.

I saw some people hating on the writer because their ships sank. They think the whole world is trolling them, when they're the ones trolling themselves. And just to set things straight: first love was never a criterion for endgame in Shin-Lee’s dramas.

Hello....I've been silent reader...since the beginning of this drama. As season 1 ended, my level of expectation for Korean drama has been rises..why?because HP is not a drama, because there is no drama. The storyline(in term of friendships, human relationship) itself is real that I can relate myself to it. Each characters shows their best act, even those rookie actors/actresses.....they leave an impact that makes us remember what they did in every episode. There are countless memorable scenes that I sure, everyone still remember... It may sound parroting to others, still I hope, I will be given a chance to say my POV about our ships

i. IJ-SHwa: IJ 1st confession (During breakfast)...SHwa react as if she didn't hear what IJ said, because its like, WT..? are you trying to say here man...IJ 2nd confession (During NS team dinner)..at 1st SHwa thought IJ just try to play along with the others, that is why she's still laughing. As CH asked IJ, as IJ answered, her faced trying to tell that "why he did/say that again?"....I do agree  when some of you said that, she was angry in the taxi. She's questioning herself "what is wrong with IJ, that suddenly saying things like that(twice)? During karaoke, as she saw IJ singing, she seems to be a bit sway or moved because IJ confess through singing (3rd confession) but at the same time, she's thinking "is IJ trying to have a rebound relationship because he's lonely due to divorce?"and 4th confession, she sighed really loud...she is frustuated/confuse/not sure how to reply IJ once he's back from spain. because she's afraid its just a rebound relationship (don't forget in episode 1, she breakup, which is like early of the year..meaning less than a year). During the last band practice, both of them sit apart, not like normal, they always sit next to each other. IJ -SHwa are giving a space/time for each other to make sure this is not a rebound relationship.

ii. CH-SHwa : as for CH, as he said, his feeling towards SHwa is beyond his control.During their 1st meeting in the lift, CH sees a cute "intern" so of course he had a crush and admire her.As he join NS, he get to know that "intern" is his mentor and that admiration change to respect his mentor...slowly he adore her which lead him make a move (join SHwa for camping, giving her flowers, shoe as birthday present) even tough SHwa rejected him, he's still pursuing her...its because he adore her to the extent he cross the line that makes SHwa uncomfortable. Here, SHwa trying her best to maintain a professional relationship between mentor-mentee...because in mentor-mentee there is unspoken rule in which you should not involve with your mentee in order to avoid favoritism. Her last straw to make CH not to cross the line as mentor-mentee was not allowed him to follow her to sokcho and emphasize the important his board exam plus the way she write the notes(together with the crocs) stills sound as a reminder from a mentor to mentee.

iii. Jwan -IS : aarrgghh this two love birds......what can i say...hehehehe....who would've thought someone like JWan who seems to be so difficult to handle and doesn't know how to explain simple things to the patient's family and IS (army-tough woman) can be such a sweet and lovely. For IS, it is such a big step for her to accept Jwan as her BF after what her ex had done (remember CH story about IS having insomnia for 6 months because of breakup) . JWan on the other hand, knows how much IJ love his sister, trying hard to prove to IJ that he is worthy for IS that is why he's been looking for an opportunity or find time to talk with IJ. As the returned package it was thick as unknown(maybe someone can look what does it means).

iv. SH-MH : teddy bear couple....its good MH confess first and yet still keep a professional relationship (mentor-mentee) when they are on duty...but always find a way at least to eat together (as Shwa & Jwon said, SH is someone who enjoy to eat alone while watching variety show), and finally she got an opportunity to eat ramyeon with SH..and we can see SH big smile. But as for Christmas dinner, he rejected MH because he's still worried that he might hurt MH as he always feel wrong towards his ex-wife. For someone like SH, MH have to make a move so that, SH knows that, in every relationship, it is not only one side mistakes. Both sides can make a mistakes. I'm not going to say anything about a phone call from his ex.

v.Last but not least....WinterGarden : Winter is here...the 3 magical words...hehehehe...the character i love the most is GU, because she doesn't care what people say (about the shirt she wear, how she eat, remove the maggots,using pen to pin up her hair..to name a few) all she cares about was doing her work (job done). for outsider or someone who doesn't know her, might be thinking that GU is someone who is not interested of anything other that work, because she doesn't have cheerful voice or friendly face (you know what I mean except when she with IJ).I think, this want attract JWon attention. For someone like JWon, it is best the show your empathy especially when you are dealing with patient who are kids/baby and their family because its involve people's feeling. As they always together during the surgery or PICU, JWon start to realize that GU has a pure heart and honest in her work ...and when JWon compliment her about her 1st solo sugery.....you can see her big smile, a smile of satisfaction that "Today I've done a good job and I save a life" at the same time JWon knows that she's is someone who he feel or as if finally find someone that he can work with and that is why he can't stop smiling after their chat at the open garden and also become one of the reason why JWon decide to stay. To say GU is the main reason he stay as a doctor, I have to object that. I think the main reason he stay as doctor, is because that hospital itself is a special place for him. Its a reminder of his late father foundation and work and he should stay to continue his father's legacy of helping people in any possible way, like continue the DLLP. Along the way, his mom also influence his decision.

 

Sorry for a very long post....looking forward for season 2...

He is planning to tell Gyeo Ul himself about him staying but Gyeo Ul came forward sneakily to him and stole his own line confession.  He was taken aback about her confession and plead to stay beside her. And that kiss signify "this is my first step towards you. Sorry for being late". The pent up feelings exploded. 

 

Look forward on how IkJun gonna tease them as a HospiCouple or PediatricCouple in season2. I hope PD nim and writer let us see WinterGarden awkward dating. 

 

On side note; I want to see Rosa reaction when Garden brings Winter to meet her. He doesnt know that will be her 2nd time meeting Rosa and vice versa.

I actually had an inkling that there gonna be an important enough patient who will be the trigger of Andrea reason for staying. But as I am used to the makjang scenario type, I was thinking about a dramatic scenario where Andrea already in airport and there's gonna be a critical patient so he need to run back.

 

When watching the story unfold, I was a little taken aback in how the duo, Shinlee handle Andrea latest patient. It seems like, Andrea was handling it like he usually is, caring and worrying for the child, nothing overly dramatic was shown. Jun Wan and Jaehak Case was more dramatic, with tear jerking scenes included.

 

In retrospect I go over his latest cases and compare it with his cases from previous episodes, and there was something special about this case. His previous case were caused by something big, like major accident, birth defect, and serious illness. This girl case is a little bit different, at one point she was happily playing with her scooter, but then what seems to be trivial accident can turn her condition for the worst. How the extended family slowly gather one by one during 4 days of her fighting for recovery.

 

Kids play all the time, but unfortunate things can happen. For this case, Thank God, that he, Andrea, was still around. But during 4 sleepless days, he must be thinking many what ifs. How devastated that beautiful extended family if there were to loose their precious daughter/grand daughter/niece. Including what if cases like this happen in the future and he, Andrea is not around anymore. He is in fact will be leaving soon. When he has this rare expertise that can save children, is pursuing priesthood still the right thing to do?

 

I also think that having Winter beside him, from the operation and during the child road to recovery made an impact. Her queitly work hard beside him, being a dependable partner make him stronger. He instinctively not only share work burden, but also emotional burden. I realise that having to explain to worried family with assuration, repeatedly, must be taxing for Andrea. Espescially when he was also very worry himself. I think he realized that having her around help. Deep down I think he realise that he was looking forward to his promise, to treat her for a tasty dinner after the child recover. How grateful the family are after those 4 days also made Andrea realised that all his hardwork and agony has paid off.

 

After rewatching, I realize that this also what made Winter got enough courage to brace herself to ask Andrea to stay at the hospital. Not only for Rosa and herself, but also for the children. What an amazing doctor Andrea is, what will happen to the children if he isn't around. Her mellow eyes watching Andrea tends to his patient has more meaning to me now.

 

This make me appreciate writer Lee so much. What an amazing story telling! It is not a story about women temptation or a story of a man who abandone his aspiration for a woman/love. It is a story about faith and finding purpose in life, and how your loveone, family, and friend being an important source of strength and inspiration when that life choices are not an easy path to travel.

I think you may have misunderstood me. What I mean is, not everyone ends up with their first love. It's not a necessary criterion for endgames to be valid.

 

Your first love could be your last.

Your first love could end up loving someone else.

Your first love could also teach you valuable lessons on what to look out for in your second love, or third. 

 

I think "first love" appears so frequently in their dramas also because they like to explore how relationships develop, progress and evolve between long-time friends. But it would be shallow to judge any ship simply based on "first love" and disregard how the characters have grown and changed throughout the course of the drama. 

 

Anyway, I'm really happy with how season 1 ended. Looking forward to the next season!

All I want in the next season is for Jeong won to happily watch Gyeo ul eat to her heart's content. She has a big appetite afterall. Apart from the Fab five meal scenes, I demand them to give us one scene in each ep of him taking her out to eat or buying her eggdrop sandwiches. Remember how the shippers got crazy over mere chocopie passing, now imagine him feeding her in every ep. Gahhhh. I know Songhwa said that line about seeing others enjoy good food makes him happy in a more metaphoric sense, but it is true literally too as he is the one who always wears the apron and serves them food during all their meal times.  We can only imagine how caring he will be towards Gyeo ul. Arghhhhh they are going to be such a sweet couple.

The last episode was a bit heavy on the medical stories side.

- The pregnant woman coming for a check up  in her last month and learning that she won't give birth. Her wailing were heartbreaking. The other moms in the waiting room understanding and crying protecting their womb and their baby.

- I was relieved for the woman with multiple miscarriages. I wanna see the follow up of her storyline in S2 with her giving birth.

- The young man with infected stent parents.His mom crying and begging him to stay alive with them. Then she took out her baby clothes and I cried. Everything ended well. Jae Hak and Jun wan didn't gave up on him ( kuddos Dr Do) and did their best to save him.

- Ik Jun's cirrhotic patient. It was a miracle that a transplant was available without a recipient. His family's happiness was heartwarming. Ik Jun's consideration for his son by speaking to him and reassuring him in sign language. The little boy will remember the kind doctor who saved his dad and was nice to him.

- Songhwa's patient wasn't lucky. Yun bok finding out that Songhwa was the doctor in charge of her mom. Songhwa remembering her mom, shows that there are medical cases, stories that are unforgettable for doctors. It is sad if these stories ended badly yet comforting to know that they weren't just patients but people, human beings. Yun bok crying because she miss her mom and having Songhwa comfort her that her mom is proud of her in the heaven. This scene was too emotional.

 

 

Jeong-won's dilemma ( I may repeat things that have already been said):

 

We’ve learned about Jeong-won’s dilemma since the first episode. His excessive empathy and his attachment to his little patients make it difficult to handle when there's a bad outcome. Everytime it happened,  he wants to quit but ends up staying another year and so on.This time, he was determined to leave. He wants to fulfill his childhood dream and become a priest. It's too hard for him to see his patients suffer and not be able to help them. He thought he's not suited to be a doctor.

During these months, we saw Jeong-won torn between pursuing his priesthood dream or being a doctor. We saw him fight for each of his patients and give his best. It was the same in this episode, he watched over her day and night until she got better and reassured her family. He was so happy when she was finally fine.

We mayhaps expected to see the moment when he'll realize his true calling is to be a doctor. I think he got to the realisation gradually, with each patient he has healed and saved, with each effort he put in it, every moment he was concerned about a patient and the happiness felt when he saw their little smile and the joy of their family. Adding his convo with the director, if he leave, his ward will closed. He took all that in consideration and realized as a doctor, he could save more lives and help families. There'll be some bad days . We'll see how he'll learn to accept the good with the bad and push through it. He's happy doing this job.

None of his friends really tried to stop him when he applied for priesthood. They respected it and maybe knew he was going to realize it on his own given his devotion to his patients. Hence Songhwa's smile when he spoke about his patient and Jun wan when the rosaries disappeared.

 

Lovelines:

 

- Seok min & Seon bin:

I knew he wasn't joking last time. He likes her. I thought she was crushing on Chi Hong.She accepted his invitation to dinner. To be continued next season.

 

- IkSong and ChiSong: 

Ik jun confessed properly, without any ambiguity. He doesn't want to ruin their 20-year friendship, but he doesn't want to regret not seizing this second chance too. He knows it isn't an easy decision for Songhwa and he may feel a little bad about imposing it on her. Neverthless, he did it. Songhwa is difficult to read. Where her feelings lies. It is up to her to decide if she wants to cross the line with him.

Will the love triangle with Chi Hong continue in the second season? I feel like Songhwa draw the line with him when she told him not to follow her instead  focus on his work and become a good doctor. Yet, I don't think he's gonna give up if she's not officially in a relationship.

 

- Pigeon couple : 

The scene in front of the emergency room was too cute. It was sad that he didn't get to say goodbye to her. I wonder what happened with the package. There was no reason mentioned for the return and Ik Sun agreed to wear the ring. Will they be in a long distance relationship?  break up? Ik Sun will come back?  RDV in Season 2.

 

- Bear Bear couple: 

Seok Hyeong said he's not interested in Min-ah. However, when they are together, he is happy. He's not alone anymore. She found a way in through his shell. The truth is, he doesn't want to hurt her. I hope he'll open up to her. He deserves to be happy with everything that happened in his life. It looks like his ex-wife is going to come back in the picture. He's sorry for her but is there really no deep feeling between them. Will she help Seok Hyeong to move on and forgive himself for their marriage's failure or she'll get in Min ah's way.

Maybe Ik Jun will work his magic for his bestie, Min-ah.

 

- Wintergarden:

My ship sails. Yes, we didn't see when Jeong-won fell in love. No, he didn't stay only out of love for her. But, it didn't come out of nowhere or rushed. Their romance was there for a while. It began with a one sided crush from Gyeo wool. Over the episodes, the implication that Jeong-won reciprocated her feelings gradually appeared. His coldness towards her in comparison with others. The rejection of her invitation to dinner with lies when we were explicitly shown that he accepted them without any concern from everyone. His subtle reactions (difficult to read but discernible ) when suddenly another man appeared by her side. His weird reaction to a boyfriend's announcement when everyone was cheering for her. His  "Not Jang Gyeo wool out of all people" "it's not Songhwa, you got it all wrong"

Then, he warmed up to her. I don't know if it was due to his conversation with Ik Jun or because his dilemma no longer weighed on him or he wanted to leave good memories of him to her before leaving.

 

Gye wool's confession:

it was intense. I salute her courage to go after what she wants, wearing her feelings on her sleeves , revealing herself and showing her vulnerability at the risk of being rejected. Her nervousness, pleading to him, the pain inflicted by her one sided feelings, the intensity of her love for him. She knows she's overstepping but she decided to put up a last fight. I felt every single emotions.

The shock on Jeong-won's face. He wasn't expect this when he let her in. Her fighting for him. I read a bit of sadness in him that he unknowingly hurt her in some way with his behavior. The struggles experienced, hidden feelings was writen all over his face. The longing and love in his eyes. He was overhelmed.

 

My favorite moment:  When he came closer, crossing the line. The way he looks at her, stroked her hair and her face to comfort her. He breathe her in , checking that it was real, that she was real. Then, he released everything in a kiss and she end up in the embrace of his arms. The perfect picture.

Yoo Yeon Seok and Shin Hyun Bin did this.

 

Flashbacks: 

- It was love at first sight for Gyeo wool.  She's so innocent. Who wouldn't fall for this man? It was emphasized that Jeong-won work well on his own and manage everything by himself. This contrasts with nowadays,, where he often works with Gyeo wool and delegates to her.  She grew on him as a doctor. He saw the best in her and is tutoring her to get to her full potential. He can lean on her. They come a long way, starting from the guardian incident and "she's not my cup of tea"

 

- Songhwa and Jeong-won : I love their relationship. She's one of the people who knows him better. He confides and rely on her. She's always there to comfort and support him. She's their mental pillar. Knowing how selfless he is, she make sure to take care of him. Jeong-won made up his mind for a moment ( earlier, he wanted to take back his daddy long legs program). He had Gyeo wool in mind and wanted to tell her first. I was surprised that Songhwa knew about his feelings for Gyeo wool.

 

- He went ( run) in the ER when she passed out. Gyeo wool read his text right. He was indeed worried. He went there but didn't get himself to went in. He wandered around, went back and forth in despair, conflicted. There's no going back if he walk through this door.

Hospital Playlist” Cast Tops Major Realtime Charts With Their Track “Me To You, You To Me”

The “Hospital Playlist” cast band Mido and Falasol has taken No. 1 on many major realtime charts!

On May 29 at noon KST, “Hospital Playlist” released its 12th and final OST: the track “Me to You, You to Me” by the lead characters’ band Mido and Falasol. The band is composed of actors Jo Jung Suk, Yoo Yeon Seok, Jung Kyung Ho, Kim Dae Myung, and Jeon Mi Do.

By 2 p.m. KST, “Me to You, You to Me” had taken No. 1 on the realtime charts of three major music sites: Genie, Bugs, and Soribada. It was also at No. 7 on Melon.

Songs from the “Hospital Playlist” soundtrack continue to dominate the charts! Over on Melon, Jeon Mi Do’s soundtrack “I Knew I Love” was still at No. 1 on the realtime chart, Jo Jung Suk’s “Aloha” was at No. 3, Red Velvet member Joy’s “Introduce Me to a Good Person” was No. 9, and Super Junior member Kyuhyun’s “Confession Is Not Flashy” was No. 10.
