Dramabeans Recap: The King Eternal Monarch: Episode 2

Getting over her shock, Tae-eul roughly shoves Gon away. She asks if he’s lost his mind. “It was a greeting,” Gon explains. He was happy to see her. She’s uneasy when he says he’s been watching her and even knows her rank.

Losing patience, Tae-eul again demands to see his ID. Gon pompously discloses he doesn’t have one, being who he is. He then gives her the absurd truth about who he is and how he got there. Gon ends by surmising this is a parallel universe.

Tae-eul looks at him like he’s delusional, but he plows on that he sees a key difference. He gazes at a massive advertisement for “Queen Yuna” (Yuna Kim) as he notes this universe has a different ruler. Pfft. Tae-eul looks at him in disbelief and sarcastically remarks their Queen Yuna is beloved by the nation.

Never been to dramabean before. Or maybe I just forgot. But tbh I didnt like their style. Feels so much hate? Sarcasm? Also, they missed several important details from the show. And I think they too quick to judge. Hmmm...

They seem more concerned about a drama they dislike than one they actually like. Most of the commenters there are also what I consider anti-lmh. “He’s not charismatic,” “he can’t carry a show,” and “he should play second leads from now on.” :lol::lol: I’m not even going to argue with that nonsense lol.

Don’t let their comments bother you. These are people who will continue to watch a show they hate just for the sake of criticizing it. Why? I will never get it lol.

Anyway, I’m going to continue enjoying lmh grace the screen with all his charisma. The way he’s able to carry his role as the king so flawlessly, from the way he speaks to the way he stands, amazes me.

And not sure what people were expecting but I find the king and JTE’s bickering relationship super cute and their chemistry adorable. Of course it’s not hot and steamy, but who the hell expects for it to be at this moment? Lol.

This is why I prefer soompi. Fans here are all respectful to each other and we certainly won’t put down another actor even if we have our favorite. Can’t wait for Friday! Please come sooner!

Remember that if they watch the show, they are adding to the ratings. Especially if they are from SK.

I just focus on the positive and hopefully anything constructive may help the crew.

PS. I remember getting a while to warm up to Goblin too.

I think King is doing ok for the beginning.

And some dramas start with a bang (with very good ratings)  but end on a whimper.

Hehehe,

I just keep wondering till now at how could they miss several important details if they labeled them selves as a drama reviewer. What a shame.

But, on the other side, I love watching the swoon presented by them. Made me wondering, is it true that they are the same person with people behind dramabean site? Youtube version, they really love LMH. Fangirling in high level.

Any explanation chingu?

ps.

I really love their bickering to each other.

Plus, I know LMH is always handsome, really handsome. But, tbh  in this drama, he is too handsome to the level that it became a distractor for my focus. Not good ma friend, not good. Poor me

So, Manpasikjeok is the key to travel to parallel worlds, right? May I know how that thing works. Manpasikjeok broke into two parts, one is in Lee Rim and another one is in Lee Gon. So, They are the only persons who can travel to two parallel worlds. Please help me to understand.

Yes, as of now, only lee rim and Lee Gon can travel back and forth. And I believe other people can pass if they travelmwithbwither Rim or Gon. Since rim brought his right hand man from corea to Korea and Gon will be bringing Ta Eul eventually

I certainly enjoyed javabean and girlfriday’s first impression on the king. I laughed along and also swooned with them. To answer your question, no, they don’t run dramabeans anymore. They used to for a long time and those were the days I looked forward to reading their insightful blog posts. They weren’t biased but more so, they were constructive. Now I rarely visit anymore. Since new bloggers have taken over, the blog has been filled with negativity and it just puts me in a sour mood whenever I visit. Of course, I try not to let it get to me but I can’t help feeling defensive lol. I welcome constructive criticism but plain hate is just a no no :D

Lee Min Ho Endearingly Bickers To Start Romance With Kim Go Eun In New Episode Preview Of “The King: Eternal Monarch”

ADORABLY CHEEKY, KING LEE GON IS DETERMINED TO START ROMANCE WITH JUNG TAE EUL IN THE PREVIEW OF THE KING: ETERNAL MONARCH‘S NEWEST EPISODE.

Leaning on a fast-pace vibe, Lee Min Ho cutely asserts romance with Kim Go Eun’s character in the latest teaser of The King: Eternal Monarch.

Spoiler

In the released preview of episode 3, Jung Tae Eul is amusingly exasperated as Lee Gon continues to build their romantic world without her permission.

Resolute to his belief that Tae Eul saved him 25 years ago, Lee Gon continues to bargain with his alternate world theory. He continues to shower her with his presence, albeit Tae Eul’s thinking that he is delusional.

Meanwhile, with Lee Gon’s vanishing, the Head Court Lady of the Kingdom makes a move to locate him.

Jo Yeong (Woo Do Hwan) worries about his King’s disappearance while Gu Seo Ryung (Jung Eun Chae) is unhappy about being hindered to see Lee Gon.

In the Republic, more questions are raised as Detective Kang Sin Jae (Kim Kyung Nam) appears to have ties with Lee Gon’s world due to him recognizing a specific emblem.

Lee Gon discovers that time stopped for him when he crossed a new dimension. He

also experiences some pain which is a side effect from being in the other world for too long.

WHAT TO EXPECT IN EPISODE 3?

Following a successful premiere with impressive viewership ratings,The King: Eternal Monarch preps up to unearth the cryptic parallel world theme of the story.

There’s much to be excited for in the upcoming episodes with the trailer showing Lee Gon and Jung Tae-eul in the bamboo forest. Lee Gon will be returning to his world and he might be taking Jung Tae-eul with him soon.

How will their relationship change once she realizes he’s not lying about being an emperor in a different world? Look forward to their romance blossoming as they traverse both worlds and find answers to the mysteries!

So, you’re saying you came from parallel universe, where you are the King of the Kingdom of Corea. And there was lighting on your way here

*****

I think it's important to understand what we know about Manpasikjeok first and foremost before delving into the two worlds contained within the same universe. The first episode begins right off the bat with Lee Lim discussing the Manpasikjeok, stating that it was given to King Sinmu by the Dragon King of the East as a gift and when played, had extraordinary power and led Sinmu to designate it as a national treasure. Manpasikjeok however, seems to mandate fate as the sound of the flute guided Lee Gon on the night of his father’s death as if mesmerised or in a trance, without any awareness of his surroundings, with gunfire sounding and the blood of fallen guards staining his clothes but the flute is known to not be able to make a single sound, suggesting that only a selective few and possibly those of royal descent are the only ones who can hear it.

This correlation between the flute and fate seems to embody a sense of ownership in order to active it in relation to blood since Lee Gon and Lee Lim both have droplets of their own blood spilt and absorbed by the Manpasikjeok and may be the reason why the portal materialises before both of them. Proximity to the portal however, still plays a role since they need to be in the bamboo forest, close enough for the portal between worlds to sense the presence of the flute.

In regard to the two worlds, there are stark differences but small technical ones as well in order to make either parallel realistic and believable, certain aspects mirrored. The primary distinction relates to the monarchy itself since Lee Gon's Korea is still ruled by Kings and Queens, consisting of a Parliamentary government that's run by a cabinet and Prime Minister. This of course is later cemented once Lee Gon comments on the fact that a Presidential system doesn't exist in his universe, and implies a global power balance unlike the world as we know it.

The monarchy in Lee Gon’s world continues from Sun Jong, the last king to reign in modern Korea of Tae Eul's world or the real Korea in other words. There doesn’t exist a Japanese invasion during WWI or a separation of North and South either, meaning no Korean War or World Wars in general. Another thing to note is that King and Emperor, kingdom and empire are interchangeable and essentially mean the same thing within the drama for Lee Gon's position and his Korea. So that's either a technicality that will be clarified later on or glossed over for the sake of fantasy and romance.

An Alice in Wonderland theory of following the rabbit down the rabbit hole is a motif and theme for the drama in general and is explicitly referred to as well but depicted with Lee Gon being Alice and the only one of his kind that follows Luna (Tae Eul's double) into the bamboo forest. I'm not sure if the Writer is suggesting that audiences can expect a fantasy world built on the rules of Lewis Carol's Wonderland since we might only get glimpses or features of it but it is a means to make sense of the drama's take on fantasy, and functions as a guideline.

The show is ambitious and grand and I think we can all expect a fun ride from one of the most acclaimed Korean drama Writers of our time. The actors speak for themselves while a fresh new take on fantasy worlds that mirror one another is founded on a historical, mythical tale. As the most anticipated series of the year, The King: Eternal Monarch is out to make a name for itself among the greats and Kim Eun Sook's previous achievement that left its mark on the drama world.

Don't visit dramabeans for your health. It was a fair site few years back, but now it is filled with hate for lee min ho in the name of so called edgy opinions ,which are given the label of criticism. And when i countered back with actual stats, my posts were deleted and members said i am setting LMH for more bashing .

The strong fair writers labeled me oppa lover when they couldn't handle opposite opinion,  because i defended him. No need to read those comments filled with venom.

I am up for fair criticism of acting, but if you keep doing the same for every little thing just to bash, the intention is clear. There are some who said lee min ho shouldn't be cast over 2 other men  in the drama. Well suck it up. He has 4 dramas over 20%, one peaking at 36% and because of his name, advertisers are lining up as well as overseas profit. He has earned it. Let others prove themselves as leading man. They are sidekicks for a reason. Yeah i am harsh but it is truth.

Don't get criticism of kim go eun's acting either. I loved her here as don't given a damn lady.

If they didn't like the drama they would have moved on and drop it period but I see it as more like politics. They are only there for a set goal before even the drama premiered leading such life is unhealthy for them tho getting personal and all. We can see thru them quite easily and there bickering falls on deaf ears. If you don't like something move on is that simple but I hope they continue the combative style It's atleast entertaining for the time being

10 things to know about Korean heartthrob actor Lee Min Ho

April 22, 2020

Lee Min-ho breaks his three-year hiatus with the new K-drama The King: Eternal Monarch on Netflix.
Netflix

Have you been watching the latest blockbuster Korean drama The King: Eternal Monarch? The fantasy drama premiered on Netflix on April 17 and is South Korean actor Lee Min Ho's comeback drama after he completed his military service.

It's also his reunion with renowned screenwriter Kim Eun Sook (of Descendants of the Sun, Goblin and Mr. Sunshine fame) who worked with him on The Heirs in 2013.

Whether you are a diehard fan who fell in love with Min Ho as Gu Jun Pyo in Boys Over Flowers, or a new fan watching him act for the first time, here are ten things to know about this dreamy heartthrob.

He escaped death twice

Min Ho was involved in a tragic car accident in 2006 when he was 19. He was on a car trip with fellow actor Jung Il Woo and two other friends when a car from the opposite lane crashed into them head-on.

The two actors were the only survivors and both of them suffered severe injuries. Min Ho was in a coma for a month and had to stay in the hospital for nearly a year. He even had to insert a 46cm metal plate in his thigh for three years.

In 2011, he got into another car accident on the set of City Hunter. Although the front of the car was wrecked after it crashed into a stationary truck, miraculously he only sustained minor injuries and resumed filming shortly after.

He served as a public service worker for his mandatory military service

Due to the severity of his previous injuries, Min Ho was deemed to be unfit for combat duties after undergoing a physical examination.

He was unable to serve as an active duty soldier and became a public service worker at the Suseo Social Welfare Centre in Gangnam, Seoul.

However, he was still able to wear the military uniform after going through four weeks of basic military training during his public service duty.

On his final day of service, the media and hundreds of fans showed up with balloons and banners to welcome him back to civilian life.

He is big on giving back to society

Min Ho has received a lot of love from the public and he makes sure to give back as well.

He set up fund-raising platform PROMIZ in 2014 to raise awareness and encourage donations for humanitarian and social causes. PROMIZ is a combination of the word 'promise', his name, and his official fan club name 'MINOZ'.

Working together with partners like World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF) and The United Nation's Children Fund (UNICEF), over the years, the platform has contributed to several causes such as donating to underprivileged children, preserving endangered species, and constructing wells in Malawi.

Min Ho also made a donation of 100 million won (S$120,000) under his fan club’s name to UNICEF’s Nepal earthquake relief fund in 2015. For his contribution to society, Min Ho received the ‘Sharing Happiness Award’ in 2016 from the Ministry of Health and Welfare.

He once had a stage name

When he made his debut, his agency thought that his birth name was too ordinary and gave him the stage name Lee Min.

Unfortunately (or fortunately), the pronunciation and characters of the name were the same as the Korean word imin or immigration and resulted in poor internet search results for him. He eventually reverted to his own name after two years.

He aspired to be a football player

Min Ho didn't always dream of becoming a celebrity. When he was a kid, his mother wanted him to build up his physical strength and signed him up for football lessons with famous Korean national player, Cha Bum Kum.

During the four years of training, he displayed a talent for the sport and even thought of enrolling into a middle school where he could specialise in football. However, his football aspirations ended after he broke his arm in a match in the fifth grade of elementary school.

He made history by becoming the first Korean celebrity to appear on China's CCTV Lunar New Year Gala

As a testament to his immense popularity in China, in 2014, Min Ho was invited to perform on Chinese network CCTV’s Lunar New Year Gala, the most-watched show in China during Lunar New Year.

An estimated 700 million viewers tuned in to watch Min Ho sing the theme song of Boys Over Flowers with Taiwanese singer Harlem Yu. His performance, which had a mixture of Korean and Mandarin, marked the first time the Korean language was broadcasted on the show.

He's a huge gamer

Spoiler

Min Ho enjoys gaming so much that he once said that he would be a pro gamer or work for a game company if he didn't become an actor.

He is known for his expertise in multiplayer online battle arena game League of Legends (LOL), which he plays together with Kim Hee Chul from Super Junior.

When Hee Chul was asked about which celebrities were the best at playing LOL on talk show Radio Star, he put himself at the top and named Min Ho as his gaming rival.

He further revealed that they tend to fight a lot when they play the game with their mics on but are still close friends.

He loves his dog

Spoiler

Min Ho is known for his love towards his pet, an adopted miniature pinscher named Choco. He can be seen cuddling and playing with Choco in various videos, and she makes frequent appearances on his social media dressed in adorable outfits.

He once said that thanks to his fans, Choco has more clothes than him. His fan club even gifted her a delicate pearl necklace which she has been spotted wearing.

He famously shared a kiss with Sandara Park in her music video

When former 2NE1 member Sandara Park was chosen to represent beer brand Cass 2X, the promotional activities were accompanied by a music video.

Titled “Kiss”, the song was Sandara's only solo track and it gained widespread attention for their kiss scene which became one of the most famous events in 2009.

She revealed on variety show Seoulmate 2 that they had to kiss for 50 times because as a rookie, she wasn’t able to really feel the kiss when there were so many people around them.

He was the first male celebrity to have a solo cover on Cosmopolitan Korea

Spoiler

Min Ho broke another record by being the first male celebrity to grace the cover of Cosmopolitan Korea magazine to commemorate their 200th issue.

Although there have been other male celebrities who have been on the cover in the past, they were usually accompanied by a female model or were in a group.

With his smouldering good looks, he looked every bit the stunning runway model as he modelled the latest trends in the stylish and chic photoshoot.

Nope, you’re not harsh at all. He has earned it. He worked hard for over ten years to get where he is today and no one has the rights to just take it away from him. They can try to bring him down with their “edgy opinions” but it’s not going to work.

And hey, there’s nothing wrong with speaking the truth. We’re not saying being a sidekick means you will never be lead. Lmh had plenty of minor roles before he became the lead. Let me reiterate what you said, they need to prove themselves. I have love for so many actors and I’m not saying WDH or KKN doesn’t deserve to be up there but you just can’t argue who’s lead here. It’s very apparent who it should be, case closed. I wouldn’t argue if LMH was next to a bigger actor and he was playing the second lead. Maybe one day WDH and KKN will be just as big and they, too, will get offers from big writers. I’ll be happy and support them.

And let’s not even speak about KGE and JTE, because I think she’s absolutely crushing it! She’s doing such a fabulous job and I’m living for it! Love her and love JTE!

I‘ve decided this will be my last post addressing this topic. I want this thread to be fun and positive, a place where we all can enjoy and express our love and occasionally critic the drama where it can be. I love the exploring theories and making predictions and playing the wait game together. Let’s continue to spread positivity and enjoy this show absolutely!
