Hyun Bin and Son Ye Jin portrayed their characters and their romance in such a spectacular way that I can't think of any other couple that can match with this. This has got to be one of the best OTP in all of K-drama history! 

 

I have loved Son Ye Jin even more through this drama and learn to appreciate Hyun Bin since I haven't really watched any of his previous works. I am eagerly waiting for their real happy news! Dating? Getting married? I won't be surprised! ^__^

 

 

 

I also realise that the scene of JH's mom wanting to kill herself with the powder (wrapped in paper) was sth she has prepared to do as what she said the JH's dad before he left to bring JH back. She knows that if her husband and JH doesn't come back, she will also be arrested and killed by their enemy. That's why she prepared that ahead and ask JH's dad not to worry about her, just get their son back safely.

Other scenes in the finale where there was a focus on different flowers (I’m not a flower expert so I’m not sure what flowers were shown in the following scenes, except the tomato plant.)

 

 

2. The Mothers in this drama were one of the best I’ve seen in kdramas. Namely, SR, SD and JH’s mothers. Especially SD and SR’s mothers who really showed good character growth and were just doing all the right things in the end. I cried during the meeting between SD and JH’s mothers. Ultimately, mothers just want the best for their children, as long as their children are happy. I’m glad SD’s mother could understand this in the end.

 

3. Endings weren’t too far-fetched.
Because this was a story across NK/SK borders, I could fully accept the ending between JH and SR. A wedding in Seoul would have been a little to hard to believe unless the drama went into pure fantasy-land. Of course a scene with the two of them with kids would have been lovely, but I would also seriously question ‘HOW?!’ in terms of child-rearing since they are shown to only meet in certain times of the year. 

Regarding SJ’s fate, I’m not angry about it too as some knetz are. He had great character development and played important roles in the lead couple’s ending and SD’s character growth. Not every love story turns out well. SD used to be so fixated on only getting married (like that was her ultimate goal in life) but eventually she realised she could also lead a fulfilling life independently. I love it. We don’t have to always follow the societal norms to be happy. Girl, you do you.

 

Lastly, I do think that the photos in this scene were thrown in last minute... I mean, they look like 5min photoshopped pictures. The backgrounds... LOL

 

Edelweiss

Thanks for the Edelweiss flower background story. The writer really put in so many details and symbolism throughout the story - shows how much she love this drama. Edelweiss truly signifies the love and hardship that SR and JH went through, and it's a precious thing to them, just like Edelweiss is precious to the Swiss (I read somewhere that it's illegal to pick the flowers and one can be prosecuted for it).

 

The Mothers

I love how the writer did not follow the usual kdrama trope of meddling mothers but portray them as putting their children's happiness first above all else. They are all such awesome characters! Women Power!!

 

Ending

From all the discussion here, it seems the writer had different endings prepared/ shot but went with the Swiss one. I agree that it's most likely cuz the team want to avoid any political sensitivity that might cause issues and problems for the production and also TVN, esp with the earlier negative comments about romanticising NK and that political group that even wanted to sue TVN. Best to avoid that and have an ending that makes fans happy and yet do not have political consequences. I do think the writer wants to allow the audience to freely imagine what happens next, including OTP having kids etc. 

 

About GSJ

Some fans complain that there was too much focus on GSJ and SD towards the end and that it should have happened earlier, or there should only be focus on SR-JH. But I believe that the writer and director wants to care and be responsible for each actor/ actress and character in the drama and we can see that from how they gave enough farewell/ closing to each of them. I've said in an earlier post that GSJ dying actually made the character even more memorable and bittersweet, which is a good thing for the actor. I think the writer wanted to have an arch of how cross border love between NK-SK couple can also turn out to be very sad and bittersweet.

 

Love that they added the pictures to the window sill area - maybe cuz they decided not to show any wedding or babies, they put in the pictures to show that the OTP have been going to the house frequently and spent many, many happy moments together!! We just need to add that one extra picture of SR pregnant - that would be picture perfect!!

WOW!! That's a really revealing picture of what could have been alternative endings!! I really hope we can get that in the DVD director's cut (as long as it doesn't cause any political sensitivity issues).

I’m not sure if it’s the dress or if SR is meant to be pregnant in those pics but regardless, I’m convinced there was more to the end which we didn’t get to see. For starters, the pic of the twins that came out not long after JH said he wanted twins, like that’s pretty convincing in itself. Now we have these gorgeous pics of JH and SR in Switzerland, if they were promo pics then they would’ve been released earlier or while the drama was airing. I also can’t remember a drama releasing new pics immediately after the drama ends before. I feel like we are getting teased badly lol
 

I would do anything for a season 2! Maybe it could be a new baddie and the ducklings reunite with JH and SR to stop them?? I wish this drama had been 20 or even 24 episodes long. They could’ve explored SR’s biological mum’s background, included the NIS guys more, elaborated on each ducklings story, shown SR reuniting with the ahjummas, given us some type of open ending with SJ/SD etc. but most importantly, let us see SR and JH living happily with a family. Just doesn’t feel like it’s really over lol

Finally finished episode 16. I must admit I haven't seen a drama that could move me in such an extent for a long time. The story definitely is very well written out, almost all plot holes covered. Indeed one of the best. I've watched Goblin, didn't have the same feeling as CLOY, now I'm very very curious about Sky Castle, what made it get the highest rating last year

Watched all their related swoon videos, interview videos for multiple times already RIP the replay button lol. Just hope they release the cut scenes where they got married in the end and YR got pregnant!! Screw the organisation who wants to sue CLOY due to political reason that they had to change the ending.

That scene at the DMZ is EPIC!

While watching it live, I told myself it was only a DRAMA but I just couldn't stop crying. Even rewatching it with subs bring tears too. Kudos to both HB & SYJ for their brilliant acting. The cinematography was eye catching, appropriate & memorable!

 

I'm sure the DMZ will immediately be an ICONIC TOURISM SPOT for tourists. I'm glad I was there in June last year otherwise bookings will be difficult as you need a conducted tour there.

I don't know what am I going to do now as the show has ended..I have not been able to sleep for the past few days..before it was because I was thinking about what will happen in the last two episode and after the final episode aired it is because there will not be new episode now..I am just thinking about the show all the time..it looks like my life has come to a dead end and I don't know where to go now...it is the first time ever in my life that I am this much invested into a show..I don't know what is going to happen in my life now but I'll live each day as if I will be able to meet them one fine day..the withdrawal symptoms are really hell..

I can't believe it's over. Never knew I would get this attached to this drama when I started watching it. I really was prepared for this drama to lose its momentum from the second half and for a messy ending but no I was proved wrong the writer really did her research and was able to keep me and most of us hooked till the end. The ending totally came off as a big surprise to me I was so prepared for a Goblin kind of ending till the last 20 minutes of the drama and then bam!! the writer surprised me with the most realistic and politically correct Happy Ending ( some may say it's open but for me it is not just a happy ending but also a HAPPILY EVER AFTER). Yes waiting a whole year and then just getting two spend two weeks sounds sad but in their case it's a blessing. At least two weeks every year is better than not being able know when they will meet again in future and just wait and pray desperately. I do think that they will find a permanent solution in future. I wouldn't say his parents death but maybe once RJH's father retires? Maybe after 5 years they will come up with a permanent solution and in future when he has got nothing to lose in Nkorea he may probably defect to stay close to se ri and his twins . I loved the ending especially the kiss scene in the end felt so realistic and natural. Also thank you director for giving us one good kiss scene with good camera angles.

Gsj's death really hit me hard I felt sorry for the couple. Yes they deserved happiness but later fortunately I was able to make my peace with it seeing Seo Dan moving on with her life as an independent single woman. I do agree with her "Being Single is trendy these days". I loled for good 2-3 minutes at the parasite reference. I love how this drama is subtly bringing the actors previous works into play. YSR,RJH and Ducklings are officially the best Kdrama squad ever no one can top them. After RJH-YSR, PCS-YSR frenemy relationship is my favourite bond in this drama. Their scenes never failed to crack me up. I will miss the ahjumma's too.They represent the whole fandom when it comes to fangirling over handsome captain Ri. Gosh !! these characters feel like a family to me it's difficult to bid goodbye to them.

I'm glad that YSR has someone in Skorea she can rely on now. Her bond with her step mom was the progress I needed to see to be assured that she will be safe in Skorea without RJH. Also her first brother and SIL who annoyed me in the first half started to crack me up in the end. Lol those two are meant for each other.

Hyun Bin and Son Ye Jin deserve awards for their phenomenal acting in cloy. Especially the melo and angst scenes in hospital, interrogation room and the emotional reunion South Korea you better not forget to award these two if you do its nothing less than a crime. I read a tweet on twitter that the border reunion scene killed all the reunion scenes in Kdrama land and I agree. I had to pause the episode to get over the emotions I was going through. These two successfully made shed some good amount of tears during that scene. They indeed are the best actor and actress in the Korean Industry and now I'm proud to be their fan.

Last but not the least BinJin's chemistry one of the biggest reasons apart from the brilliant writing is what I believe made the drama what it is today. RiRi will always remain iconic couple to me and I don't think it would have been the same if not for BinJin. Their chemistry is insane and they were successfully able to convey the deep love that riri had for each other. Hope they win best couple award this year. Also I hope this ship sails in real life too. 

Also if anyone knows how to move on from a kdrama that has taken over ones life please let me know. You would be helping mankind by doing so
