I won’t talk about Ep 12 except to say that like most of you, l love the soju scene and the SeRi coming back to an empty home before a birthday surprise scene. Both are so impactful that I will remember these two scenes like forever. I really want to say that SYJ is so good at emoting that her melo acting is really unparalleled. And how is it that she can still look so beautiful with her real crying and eyes and nose red from real emotions?!

 

Of course I must talk about Hyun Bin. Must say his detailed acting in this drama has reached a totally different level. I am certainly not missing fine details like gentle rubbing of SeRi’s hand when she went to him after the doctor has checked on his grazed-by-knives-shoulder scene; similar gentle touches on shoulder at reunion scene in his parents’ house avenue etc etc..I will assume this is acting for now. Hyun Bin’s acting in this drama has made it extremely difficult for me to differentiate between reel and real haha...on the one hand it shows how good his acting has become; on the other hand, it’s messing me up quite badly coz I can no longer tell if it’s just acting and so have to use a lot of effort to try and not invest in the real persons, unless of course, if it’s not just acting in which case, all the confusion is unnecessary haha. The confusion is made worse by the fact that it’s not just his acting but also SYJ’s haha..they are both so believable that I can no longer tell if it’s them (the real Hyun Bin and SYJ) or it’s just our 2Ri/RiRi drama OTP. I just wanna tell Hyun Bin’s future wife or Gf this - haha..please keep him away from a romance project! His honey-dripping gaze and detailed acting is dangerous! (Cue: SeRi telling Jeong Hyeok to only drink at home coz she will feel insecure hahaha). Thankfully (from his future gf’s or wife’s perspective), Hyun Bin is already at that age when he’s not likely to act in romance genres of this type for very much longer, if at all haha..Tbh, this  fact also makes this project so so much more special for fans of his like me.

 

Okay, now, I have a question. When Jeong Hyeok logs on to his emails did you see the folders were named in Chinese characters? And SeRi’s father at the scene where he filled up forms, he wrote 父 which is Chinese for “father” in the relationship space. I just googled and found out that in North Korea, North Koreans learn Chinese characters (referred to as Hanja) from elementary school to the senior year of high school. So using Chinese characters is perhaps a North Korean thing and not a South Korean thing? So does that mean that SeRi’s father has NK links?! Was he a North Korean before?!

 

Like what @Site Admin has said, this drama is GOLD. It’ll be a drama that I’ll continue to watch three, five, ten years from now and not be tired of.

In one of the earlier episodes in NK, Ju Meok (the kdrama fan) asked Seri what happened to Daegil cos he had not gotten to the end of the drama yet. Hence I was so tickled when he finally got to watch that tragic final episode at the Internet cafe. I loved Chuno too (it was one of my easiest kdramas), and I howled laughing when the Chuno OST came on. Ju Meok's reaction to that scene was also pretty much mine when Daegil died lol!

Kinda weird with some scene wich look like  little bit jumpy and unnecessary here and there, hence the flawless chemistry and the acting all actors could cover that's part . Especially the army gags and the eavesdrop wall man, 

Theirs scene  is work  well, the comedic and the heartwarming hit you on  the spots, once put smile another time made us shed a tears

While watching RJH -Seri love story what came in my minds is  they chances to become couples almost zero.

Can't wait the writer migrated all the Nice NK fellows to SK then

It’s basically a chant that Kim Joo Won (Hyun Bin’s character) keeps chanting whenever he’s confused, frustrated or unable to control his emotions etc. The full chant is

In addition, some events in NK that have a parallel version in SK include:

 

1. Se Ri reuniting with the F5 in the park in SK is similar to Se Ri meeting the ducklings in the hospital after the attack on the way to the airport. In both instances it was Eun Dong who first called out her name and hugged her before the rest approached and talked to her. And Chi Su as always was playing hard to get in both times. LOL 

 

 

 

 

2. Se Ri's "My head is heavy" scene with RJH in Pyongyang that prompted him to say that she should be liking the idea that she's leaving for SK, to which Se Ri answered with a vague "I am liking it" confession is replicated in the "I am drunk" scene in her SK living room. This time it was RJH who had a determined confession of wanting to stay and marrying her.  The SK scene is in fact the fulfillment of love coming true between Se Ri and RJH as the myth foretold about lovers watching the first snow together. 

 

SD and SJ also have their own "I like it" version during a blackout candlelit dinner over ramyun, which indicates that the two may already have a budding romance with similar NK-SK issues that will eventually compound it. 

 

3. Se Ri coming home to an empty house and crying her heart out thinking that RJH had already returned to NK without saying goodbye corresponds to the pain that RJH felt when Se Ri was abducted believing that she was dead when he heard the gunshot on the phone.

 

4. The backhug scene that followed that has RJH telling Se Ri how important her existence is to him as she is his reason to continue on living is a reassertion of what Se Ri overheard RJH tell his father that without her he would lose his reason to live.  

 

 

 

 

 

5. etcetera 

 

The NK half of the show ends at the part where RJH stepped over the military demarcation line, which means that he effectively entered South Korea's part of the DMZ. For the remaining half of the drama, I would guess that it will mirror that scene again in episode 9 but perhaps this time it will be Se Ri who will be burdened to make the decision. Hence, Se Ri's choice. 

 

Or it doesn't necessarily concern any of those pesky lines that mark the physical division between SK and NK. There has been a running theme throughout the show about "crossing the line" such as when Se Ri lined up empty beer cans on the floor and when she reminded RJH about not "crossing the line" when they shared the hospital bed. However, it wouldn't be out of line if this time it concerns another type of line and that they would just stay on the line like: 

 

 

signing their signatures on the dotted line of a marriage contract.

My new theory since I am overthinking about everything: 
 

Spoiler ahead....
 

I sense another goodbye at the end of episode 14. Based on some spoilers, we know that there will be a scene at a hospital and a possible car crash. These two scenes may be related to each other and some consequences emerge. I think the car crash will lead to police’s involvement which will put the NK gangs under scrutiny, including oh man suk. I believe episode 13 and 14 will revolve around these incidents to close out oh man suk’s storyline.

 

I am certain that RJH will return to NK in order to tie some loose ends once he ensures SR’s safety. There are many things that RJH needs to solve. For instance, general’s involvement in oh man suk’s escape, the fall of senior colonel, his family issues, (possibly) Dan’s closure, as well as his relationship with his comrades. On the other hand, I don’t see the need for SR’s return to NK (plot wise). Unless, there are some makjang elements created by the writer nearing the end of the series (e.g., SR’s mom or father is actually a North Korean). 
 

On Episode 11

 

Am I the only one who thinks that RJH left the NK’s pin on purpose? He is not a careless person. Why I think he left it on purpose is to prevent oh man suk for escaping. Once the SK’s police finds out about the tunnel, some measures will be in place in order to reduce the likelihood of using such a tunnel for illegal purpose. His action may also be interpreted as his desire to bring Oh mansuk alive in order to prove general’s involvement. 
 

One thing that I am curious is what his plan is/was for returning to NK? Before the F5 arrived, he didn’t know that there was an option for riding on the athletic teams.

@KimSooHanMoo for the use of Hanja in the doc, I don't think much about it cuz I think older people tend to use and remember Hanja more often than the youngsters... 

 

While for Jeong-hyuk's email, I also think it's quite normal since he probably uses Chinese server for emails (North Korea has intranet, not Internet)...and that North Koreans are more familiar with Hanja (and Chinese) since they're 'natural' allies...

 

Ah for the doc that was signed by Seri's father... I see some are questioning what kind of docs is that and who asks him to sign. The document has NATIONAL INTELLIGENCE SERVICE (NIS) written on it (in Korean), so it should be really clear what kind of document was that and why Seri's father signed it...

I'm still for an "opening the borders" ending. It would be a shame if JuMok still won't be allowed to watch kDramas in the future because these two nations insist on being enemies when they can actually be "friends", without compromising each other's ideologies. After what the ducklings have seen and experienced in SK, there is just no turning back.

 

How sad it is that in the year 2020, such country like NK still exists. One that has built invisible walls that keep people from coming in and going out. This is what makes the soju scene so poignant and brutal.

 

The current state of NK is so grotesque and ludicrous, it's almost laughable. Truth is indeed stranger than fiction.

Interesting...and Seri (it's Yejin, right?) looks pregnant...perhaps cuz she hasn't got her girls yet hahaha. But the baby doesn't look 4 years old? Maybe 10-ish months-old? 

 

Hopefully it's really the ending tho... 

 

ANYWAY ABOUT THE PLOT HOLE regarding the tunnel I mentioned before 

 

Jeong-hyeok crawled for 20-ish hours under a tunnel of 10 km... Assumed that he was stationed near Kaesong (notice the signboard where the couple and Seungjun meets Kwang Beom?) or Paju (where they might be able to see a tiny bit of Bukhansan), Gangsan-Ri, Cheorwon-gun is too far... And after that, how did he reach Seoul? WALK?? He'd take weeks... Is it Joseon era? Lol. And Jeong-hyeok seemed to come out of a cave near an ocean...is there any ocean in that area? I don't think so... Most seas are in the West side and East side of Gangwon-do (DMZ in Goseong area, which used to be a part of North Korea under the original 38th parallel line). 

 

I try hard to ignore this geographical mishap...but it still bothers me hahaha.

I just love how CLOY is such a forward thinking and cosmopolitan Kdrama. During Episode 11 and 12, there had been a major shift in the balance of power to Seri's side. She is the one who pays for RJH clothes, food and shelter (as well as gaming items ) now but never did I take it against Seri nor RJH. I even look forward to Seri spoiling the ducklings (and ahjummas, pretty please) to a hilt. Supporting each other seems like second nature to them.

 

I also love RJH for being so confident in himself that we never catch even a glimpse of insecurity now that he's found out that Seri is bigger than life in SK, with huge coffers to boot. I love the way he cheered her on during her store's Grand Opening, like a real proud husband. Jeong Hyeok is whipped and he just thrives in it. I love that he is so comfortable in his own skin that it doesn't bother him even if Seri is the one who swipes the credit card during their shopping sprees. Seri needs a husband exactly like our gallant captain. Lesser men would just feel tiny and useless in her presence.

 

Well, to be fair, RJH is also part of the North Korean elite. Growing up with the 3rd most powerful man in NK as your dad is one heck of a confidence booster. Aside from that, he is still probably paying for all the potato, corn and meat items that Seri ransacked when she was in NK. Not to mention all the underwear and toiletries he had to buy for her during her stay.

 

I also love how Pyo Chi Su never wastes time to remind her of how she had taken advantage of Capt. Ri's house and everything in it hahaha. Seri will always be that shameless woman who pillaged Ri's rations without remorse.
