Jang Dong-yoon to play lead role in ‘Mung Bean Chronicles’ opposite Kim So-hyun

 

Jang Dong-yoon has been confirmed as the leading actor in a sageuk called Mung Bean Chronicles which already secured Kim So-hyun as the female lead.

The period romantic comedy, also called Joseon Loco: Nokdu Chronicles, is an adaptation of a hit webtoon of the same title and follows the life of Jeon Neok-du. Jang Dong-yoon (Mr. Sunshine, A Poem A Day) will play this character, who is described as an ambitious and hard working man. He dreams of expanding his horizons and uses that as an excuse to avoid marriage. He has brilliant looks and silky-smooth hair that most men envy. After an incident that leads him to a mysterious village dressed up as a woman, he meets a young lady named Dong Dong-joo.

 

Kim So-hyun (Radio Romance, Love Alarm) confirmed her role as Dong Dong-joo early this month. Her character is a trainee gisaeng with no sense of rhythm and music. She is obviously lacking in terms of musical talent but she can make anything using the right tools, prompting some of the villagers to call her Jang Yeong-sil, a renowned inventor who lived during the Joseon dynasty. She is hot-tempered and has a sharp tongue but she lives with a secret that she cannot tell anyone.

With a love story that is one of a kind, Mung Bean Chronicles is expected to bring laughs and tears to its viewers. It will be directed by Kim Dong-hwi of Fight For My Way and The Merchant: Gaekju 2015 and written by Baek So-yeon and Lim Ye-jin (Love in the Moonlight). The drama’s premiere is slated for September.

COMPLETING THE DREAM CAST OF ANTICIPATED KBS JOSEON ROMANTIC COMEDY OFFERING IS RISING ACTOR JANG DONG YOON.

Tapped to portray the titular role of Nok Du, Jang Dong Yoon gears up to breathe life to a story based on a popular webtoon. Nok Du Jeon (literal title) depicts the story of a man who goes incognito as a woman. He infiltrates into a mysterious village of widows to escape getting married.

Coming from his most recent mini drama which is also female-dominated, Jang has been catching the attention of audience for his effective role portrayals. He last worked on coming-of-age KBS series, Just Dance, where he flaunted his dancing skills and made hearts flutter with his on-screen chemistry with Park Se Wan.

 

Scoring four dramas in the last three years, the rising actor has frequented youth themed dramas. But he proved his competence in mature roles with his quick stint in Mr. Sunshine and a supporting role in A Poem A Day.

 

The Joseon set romantic-comedy boasts impressive showrunners. Helming the project is Director Kim Dong Hwi of Fight For My Way and The Merchant: Gaekju 2015 fame. Penning the series is writer Im Ye Jin who worked on Love in the Moonlight and Who Are You: School 2015.

 

Looking forward to the confirmed headliners, the production team expresses confidence with Jang and Kim on board the project. They remarked how they had devoted keen deliberation so that the story can be painted vividly by the casted actors.

Jang Dong Yoon Confirmed As Main Male Lead Along Kim So Hyun In Drama “Mung Bean Chronicles”

The popular webtoon “Mung Bean Chronicles” also called “Mung Bean Pancake” (in Korean “녹두전”) is being remade in a drama. The main cast is finally completed.

 

 

 

It is a romantic comedy drama set in Joseon. It tells the romance between a man who is disguising as a woman to infiltrate a community for widows (Jang DongYoon as Jun NokDoo) and a girl that hates the idea of becoming a gisaeng (Kim SoHyun as Dong DongJoo).

 

Kim So Hyun has been confirmed for the lead character as Dong DongJoo, a gisaeng trainee. Song Geon Hee also confirmed for one of the main male characters as Jun Hwang Tae, he is pretending to be a servant.

 

 

 

Everyone was waiting for Jang Dong Yoon decision as he was in talks for the role of Jun Nok Doo. According to Ten Asia, on Apr. 29, Jang Dong Yoon confirmed his participation

 

 

He is cast as Jun NokDoo. A man that disguises himself as a woman and infiltrates a community for widows. He is a manly man who grows up with the ambition of going into the wider world. He has good looks, intelligence, and strength. He has everything. Because of an unexpected event, he is disguising himself and meet Dong DongJoo.

 

The drama will premiere in September on KBS.

Jang Dong Yoon Joins Kim So Hyun to Star in “Mung Bean Chronicles”

Jang Dong Yoon (Just Dance) has now confirmed he will be joining Kim So Hyun (Radio Romance) to star in the new Korean historical drama Mung Bean Chronicles (or Mung Bean Pancake). He will play a man pretending to be a woman who is looking to avoid marriage, and  Kim So Hyun will be a gisaeng in training. I’m glad we have our main leads secured, and this drama sounds like it will be a lot of fun!

 

Mung Bean Chronicles is about a man (Jang Dong Yoon) who disguises himself as a woman to live among a community of women so that he won’t have to get married and a hot-tempered woman (Kim So Hyun) who doesn’t want to be gisaeng. The drama comes from the writer of Moonlight Drawn By Clouds and the PD of Fight for My Way.

 

Mung Bean Chronicles is planning to air later in 2019 on KBS.
