Synopsis:

As Si Tu Mo (Xing Fei)’s graduation is nearing, she is confused about her future plans. She tries out all sorts of things all the time and is unable to make her own decisions. Her ordinary days are suddenly shaken up when the genius Physics student Gu Wei Yi (Lin Yi) appears in her life. The two accidentally end up living together and chaos begins.

Slight correction.    Per MDL and the Chinese wiki page for this drama, I believe the air date is April 10 (not April 1).  

 

As a huge fan of "A Love So Beautiful," I am very much looking forward to this drama!  So glad it finally has an air date.

I watched the first two episodes, it is soooo cute. Easy to watch and it’s good enough that you want to continue. Male lead is handsome af, and the female lead is really refreshing. Hope it won’t disappoint later on bc it has potential.

Same.  Really enjoyed the first two episodes -- look forward to watching more tomorrow night.  I'd have watched more tonight, but I couldn't fit it in!     Thinking about recapping since there are no subs yet...

Hee, hee, I was just coming to post the same thing!  This is very exciting news.  I'm really enjoying this drama (up to episode 5, now!) and I hope with subtitles becoming available more viewers will now be able to come on board to support the drama.    

 

If anyone's still curious and wondering whether they should try the drama, I did finish recapping the first two episodes already and will go ahead and share those so people can get a flavor and an idea of what the drama's about.  Hopefully people will be enticed into starting the drama!  (There's just something about the drama that called to my recapping tendencies, but I'm not sure I'll continue now that we know there will be subs.)

Episode 1

 

It’s already late in the morning when Si Tu Mo is woken up by her ringing cell phone.  She gropes around for her phone, still half asleep, and accidentally drops it off the side of her bed.  She manages to retrieve the phone behind some dust bunnies, but the screen is cracked.  She answers the phone anyway and on the other side, a male voice tells her he’s on his way to pick her up.  It’s not long after that that Si Tu Mo is preening in front of the mirror in a pretty white dress when she receives a text message telling her he’s downstairs waiting for her.

 

As Si Tu Mo runs to meet the male voice, we learn that she’s a fourth-year college student who majored in accounting even though she’s more interested in advertising.  It’s because of this though that she’s having a hard time finding a job.  As she exits her dorm room, we see the male voice waiting for her and learn this is Fu Pei.  A good friend of hers, although it’s clear she’d like him to be more.  He gives her a ride on the back of his bike and as they’re pedaling across campus, Fu Pei crashes into another guy on a bike.  The men recognize each other.  While Fu Pei is friendly with the other guy, the other guy is dismissive.  He asks Si Tu Mo if she’s okay and it’s only because of the other guy’s concern that Fu Pei clues in that Si Tu Mo is still sitting on the ground.  He leans over to help her up and she looks at him in frustration.  The other guy figures it out first.  Her dress is caught in the chains of the bike.  As she’s already indicated that she needs to be somewhere, he asks if she’s in a hurry.  When she says yes, he solves the problem by tearing her dress away from the bike.  He then grabs his bag and hops back on his bike and pedals away, leaving Si Tu Mo and all the other bystanders agape.

 

The other guy is in a hurry as well though.  He arrives in a classroom to take a test.  The person next to him asks to borrow a pen and when he reaches into his bag, expecting to pull out a pencil bag, what lands on his desk instead is a pack of sanitary pads.  The person sitting next to him stares in shock and he himself isn’t doing any better.  He quickly hides the pack inside his desk when the exam proctor arrives.  The exam proctor enters the room by instructing everyone to put away their things and take out their identity card.  It’s then that the other guy realizes he has the wrong bag. 

 

Meanwhile, Si Tu Mo is waiting for her interview with Fu Pei next to her.  He gets a phone call from his friend and although he at first tells his friend that he can’t meet up with him since he’s busy with something else, Si Tu Mo can tell he’d rather be with the person on the other end of the phone than with her.  Therefore, when Fu Pei tries to make an excuse, she cuts him slack and sends him on his way.  Shortly thereafter she gets called in for her interview.  She’s asked why she’s applying for an internship at an ad agency when she majored in accounting and she explains that at the time of the high school entrance examination, she thought it’d be easier to get a job as an accounting major but now she’s certain she wants to go into advertising and she’s made sure to explore those interests while in college in order to develop herself in this area.  The interviewers ask if she’s brought with her any work they can consider and she says, of course, but what she hands over is not what she expected them to be seeing (it’s some science report authored by the other guy).  And it’s not long after that she realizes she too has the wrong bag. 

 

The interviewers, who had already been side-eyeing the tear in Si Tu Mo’s dress, are even less impressed now that she’s brought them the wrong thing to look at.  They question her sincerity and, in short, she fails the interview.  Back at school, the other guy, whose name we learn is Gu Wei Yi, asks the exam proctor if he can take the exam first and then go fetch his identification card.  The exam proctor, who knows Gu Wei Yi, comments that it wouldn’t be fair to the others and is probably not a good idea.  Apparently this is a test to select someone to work on a project with a renowned professor at their school, so interest is high. 

 

Both parties having failed their respective test and interview, they each call Fu Pei separately in order to set up a meeting to uncross their bags.  When they do meet, Fu Pei introduces Si Tu Mo as the “girl he’s mentioned to the others in their dorm” and Gu Wei Yi as “the top student of his dorm.”  Neither party are particularly impressed with each other though, and when Gu Wei Yi gets his bag back, he immediately inspects it.  You can tell Si Tu Mo is insulted while Fu Pei asks him if he really thinks Si Tu Mo would’ve taken anything from his bag.  He responds by merely suggesting she do the same.  Si Tu Mo says she was just about to do that and when she looks through her bag she’s surprised to discover that there is something given that the item would not be useful to someone like Gu Wei Yi, or at least that’s what she would’ve thought.  Fu Pei asks her what that could be and she answers, “Sanitary pads.”  Gu Wei Yi immediately recalls what happens and says he can explain but Si Tu Mo just holds out her hand all the while laughing.  When he can’t turn it over, she gets up and leaves without letting him explain and laughs all the way back to her dorm.

 

Back in the dorm, we meet Si Tu Mo’s three roommates as she shares that she failed her interview.  One of her roommates lectures her on finding a path for her future.  This seems to be a common talk that the roommate gives as the other roommates hurry to tune her out lest they become her next targets. 

 

The next day of school, Si Tu Mo is sitting in a lecture room nodding off as a presenter tries to extol the virtues of her firm to this class or aspiring accountants.  It sounds like she’s trying to get people to apply to work at her workplace but nobody seems particularly interested or disappointed when her powerpoint suddenly goes down.  Someone goes off to fetch IT and instead, Gu Wei Yi arrives wearing a white lab coat.  His appearance has all the women in the classroom sitting up as they take note of his handsome looks with great appreciation.  The presenter mistakes him for IT and drags him over to the computer and asks him to fix it.  He’s confused but immediately gets to work.  The computer goes completely back just as the real IT person arrives and at first everyone thinks he’s made the situation worse, but after a few more taps on the keyboard, he has the presentation back up and running, better than before.  He then walks up to Si Tu Mo and asks her for her keys.  She’s confused but complies, and as he leaves the classroom we see him talking to Fu Pei on the phone.  He’d done it as a favor.

 

Gu Wei Yi arrives back in his lab to find his professor waiting for him.  His professor wants to know what happened to the exam, but Gu Wei Yi has already moved on from the incident considering that there’s nothing to be done about it.  His professor insinuates that he should work connections to get the job, given that the professor had always wanted to hire someone from their department and it was only opened up to everyone via the exam because the school had required it, but Gu Wei Yi is the type to play fairly.  He’s not about to bribe his way into the job or work favors.  The professor leaves in frustration.

 

After class Si Tu Mo calls her friend to see if she wants to meet for lunch, but she can’t.  Fu Pei calls her and asks her the same question and she declines, but it turns out he was waiting for her anyway.  She ends up agreeing to have lunch with him and it’s during that meal that she gets another text informing her of an interview.  He offers to take her and she declines, remembering what happened the last time, but she doesn’t know where this next company is located and he insists he’s very familiar with the area.  In the end, she ends up accepting his help.

 

After lunch, Si Tu Mo goes to get the screen of her phone fixed.  She ends up running into Gu Wei Yi who’s doing the same thing.  He tells the store clerk he wants to fix his screen on his own and when she asks if he’s ever done it before, he says no, but wants to try.  He begins the work immediately and Si Tu Mo watches on in fascination.  It doesn’t take him long to fix his screen and when he’s done, he asks Si Tu Mo for her phone so she can fix hers.  As fascinated as she was just then, she’s not inclined to hand over her phone that’s a different model.  He says that’s precisely the point though; he wants experience with a different phone.  After much back and forth, she finally relents and it’s fortunate for all that he is able to fix her phone without any problems.

 

The day of the interview, however, Si Tu Mo is left waiting at the bus stop for him.  She lets several buses go by and when she calls him, he doesn’t answer.  We see it’s because he’s in the middle of a basketball game.  Eventually she sends him a text message saying that if she doesn’t catch the next bus, she’s going to be late so she’s leaving without him and that he needn’t come.  She’s still hoping he’ll respond to her though as she keeps checking her message even as she gets off the bus.  Once arrived at her bus stop, it’s still a distance that she has to walk to reach the company.  At one point, she’s walking through a deserted area and starts to feel nervous.  And of course that’s when someone rides past her on a motorcycle.  She shies away from him but he’s quickly followed by someone on foot, and this person grabs her purse from her.  It turns out he’s working with the guy on the motorcycle and soon Si Tu Mo is left dragged on the ground. 

 

Back at the bus stop, she calls the company to explain an emergency came up and she can’t make it.  Fortunately the interviewer sounds understanding, but that still leaves her at the bus stop.  She calls Fu Pei and it’s Gu Wei Yi who arrives back at the dorm just in time to hear the phone ringing.  He answers, but he has no idea where Fu Pei is.  She asks him to pass on that her purse was stolen and she hasn’t any money to take the bus back to school.  Her cell phone battery is also dying.  No sooner does she finish saying that, her phone really does end up dying.  Si Tu Mo bangs her head against the phone while back at school, Fu Pei cancels on a friend and immediately sets out.  He arrives in a taxi and takes her back to school in the same taxi.  Along the way though, he asks the taxi driver to take them to the nearest hospital instead.  Si Tu Mo’s hand is badly scratched and her arm is dripping with blood.  When he hands her tissues, it gets stuck and so he pulls out a wet wipe and starts to dab at it for her.  She insists she doesn’t have to go to a hospital and can treat it back at the dorm by herself and that’s when he scares her into going by telling her that an untreated wound like hers can result in amputation, if things get really bad.  Even the taxi driver is alarmed to hear this! 

 

At the hospital, Si Tu Mo is completely embarrassed.  She still doesn’t think she needs to be there, but Gu Wei Yi makes things worse he fetches a wheelchair for her.  When they arrive in the doctor’s office he asks if where she’s hurt and whether she has an X-rays for him to see.  He assumes based on the fact that she’s in a wheelchair that her injuries are more serious than they are.  When she learns that they’re not, he sighs over the pair and assumes that this is an overly concerned boyfriend.  After her injuries are cleaned and bandaged, he hands Gu Wei Yi a prescription list and tells them to go to the pharmacy.  Gu Wei Yi holds out the wheelchair again and when Si Tu Mo tries to avoid it, the doctor tells her not to bother and just go for it.  But it’s pretty great when the roll out of the room and run into a man with a broken leg who’s limping along on crutches.  Si Tu Mo just covers her head hoping that if she can’t see them, they can’t see her.  Haha. 

 

It’s at this moment that Fu Pei arrives.  He insists on taking over, but as he starts to wheel Si Tu Mo away and asks her where she was headed, she answers with grit teeth that she was on her way to the pharmacy and Gu Wei Yi has the prescription slip.  He turns back to fetch the slip and then tells her not to worry, as he’ll figure out where to go next.  He then leaves her in the middle of the hallway and runs off to figure out the directions.  As she watches him running away, Si Tu Mo wonders to herself why they’re always on different frequencies and maybe she shouldn’t have any expectations.  She then tries to move her wheelchair and gives up in frustration when she can’t seem to get herself going in the right direction.  Gu Wei Yi walks up to her then and says he’ll help her.  As he starts to roll her away, he sees the tears on the paperwork in her lap.  He drops a packet of tissues in her lap and when she insists she’s not crying, he tells her to dry her sweat.

 

End

 

Epilogue: Gu Wei Yi is at a store in the sanitary pad aisle, clearly out of his element.  An older woman store clerk finds him and asks him if he needs any help purchasing sanitary pad for his girlfriend.  He answers simply that he’s trying to make up for something.  She asks him if he knows the preferred brand and when he just stares in response, she tells him not to worry.  She then turns away only to return with a large poster that has different types of sanitary pads glued onto it.  She then introduces him to the various options, explaining which ones she finds to be the best, and invites him to touch them because they’re very soft.  Gu Wei Yi ends up running away in horror.  Haha!

 

Episode 2

 

Si Tu Mo tries to tell her roommates about Gu Wei Yi coming to her rescue and sending her to the hospital, but her method of storytelling doesn’t captivate their interest as two of them announce they’re going to sleep and the one studious roommate continues to do her schoolwork.  After Si Tu Mo helps her roommates take out the trash, she returns to a phone call.  It’s Fue Pei who asks if she’s eaten.  When she answers in the affirmative, he sighs in relief.  He’d gone to the PC café to play games and forgot to bring her lunch. She tells him she’d never counted on him anyway and he comments that she’s kicking up a fuss once more.  He asks her to have dinner with him and she tells him she’s not going.  When entreats her again, she repeats her negative answer but in a louder voice.  The studious roommate reminds her the others are sleeping and to keep it down, so she hangs up on Fu Pei. 

 

Gu Wei Yi enters his lab to find his teacher waiting for him.  The teacher is still trying to get Gu Wei Yi to meet with that other professor, but Gu Wei Yi remains stubbornly against the idea.  He tells his teacher to stop coming to find him. 

 

Fu Pei is playing basketball when he spies Si Tu Mo and calls out to her.  As she watches him walk towards her, she thinks back to a time when they were in high school and he’d done the same thing.  After greeting her outside the basketball courts, he’d asked her if she was going home already and if she wasn’t going to watch him play basketball.  She’d told him that she hadn’t finished her homework, so she was going home to work on that.  He’d then leaned down to speak to her face-to-face and said he had something to say to her.  He commented on their compatibility and suggested that they date after they finished testing into college.  Shocked and surprised, Si Tu Mo had responded that he shouldn’t assume that she didn’t know today was April Fool’s Day.  He, in turn, responded by asking if she was agreeing or not.  If she agreed, then they could consider his words as real.  If she didn’t agree, then they could consider his words as an April Fool’s joke.  At that, Si Tu Mo nodded her head and smiled, and Fu Pei joked that if she hadn’t agreed, he would’ve hit her with his basketball. 

 

Back in the present, Fu Pei is also leaning down so they are face level and asks her what she’s staring blankly over.  When she answers,” I’m not,” he doesn’t believe her and asks her where she’s going.  He comments that her leg is still injured and suggests she ought to stay put.  She tells him that her leg is almost better and that she has an interview to attend that afternoon.  It’s the same company she was supposed to interview at the last time.  When Fu Pei hears this, he asks if she isn’t afraid and she retorts that she’s more afraid of not having a job.  At that, Fu Pei offers to go with her.  She looks happy for about a second until Fu Pei remembers he has something else to do that afternoon.  She tells him she can go by herself and he says that won’t do, as he doesn’t feel comfortable about her going by herself.  He tells her to wait for him at the bus stop.  She repeats that she can go by herself and tells him that she’s not going to wait for him, but he calls out after her that he knows she will.

 

Sure enough, Si Tu Mo finds herself waiting for him at the bus stop only it’s not Fu Pei who arrives but Gu Wei Yi.  It turns out Fu Pei forced him into doing this favor by threatening to reveal something related to him if he didn’t.  Gu Wei Yi is convinced that Si Tu Mo wouldn’t want him for company anyway, but to his surprise she accepts his presence and tells him they should hurry.  The bus arrives and Si Tu Mo climbs on first.  As she takes a seat, she makes room for him, but he walks past her to an empty pair of seats behind her.  Si Tu Mo just shrugs and pulls out her phone to listen to a funny podcast with her headphones on.  At the next stop, Gu Wei Yi sees his teacher getting on.  He quickly joins Si Tu Mo and yanks out one of her headphones to stick in his ear.  The teacher is delighted to find Gu Wei Yi on the bus and asks him again if he’s thought about the stuff he’d asked him to think about.  Gu Wei Yi looks at Si Tu Mo and then looks at his teacher and say he’s dating right now, so he doesn’t want to think about that stuff.  This catches Si Tu Mo off guard as she asks him, “Dating?  With me?” and he answers, “That’s right.  Who else could it be?”  At that, she catches on and turns to the teacher to affirm that they’re dating.  The teacher frowns but has no choice but to take a seat in front of them.  He’s still mulling things over when he finally turns back around and comments that he’s glad to see them dating, as he’s got nothing against dating, but recently their department had a test to pick the best student and for an important project and Gu Wei Yi missed out on it by forgetting to bring his identification card.  He’d wondered how such a mistake could happen but now he understands as mistakes are inevitable when young people are in the throes of dating.  He then asks if Gu Wei Yi’s identification card might happen to be with her.  Si Tu Mo doesn’t know how to answer so Gu Wei Yi cuts in and asks his teacher to not interrupt their date.  The teacher accepts this and says he has just one last thing to say.  He tells Si Tu Mo that they’ve already arranged for Gu Wei Yi to have one last crack at this project, but he’s insisting on there being a fair competition and refuses to meet with the professor.  Gu Wei Yi says he’s said more than one thing, he’s said three, and then adds that there’s no point in him trying to entreat Si Tu Mo because in their relationship, he’s the one who makes the decisions.  This causes Si Tu Mo to sit up and protest until he shoots her a look.  She backs down and turns away, but not before muttering, “What I say matters too.”  The bus arrives at the teacher’s stop so he just asks Si Tu Mo once more to try and persuade Gu Wei Yi.

 

After the teacher leaves, Si Tu Mo asks if he missed his exam because she took the wrong backpack.  He reminds her that he was the one who picked up her backpack first, so it has nothing to do with her.  He then looks down at her phone, where she’d paused the podcast and reminds her to turn it back on.  They then settle in to listen to for the remainder of the ride, and it looks like he’s enjoying it too.

 

They finally arrive at the building where the company Si Tu Mo is interviewing at is located.  It looks old and run down, much like the neighborhood they’re in, and Si Tu Mo has to climb quite a few sets of stairs before she finds the company.  It is by no means a reputable company.  The owner is yelling at people on the phone, with other people down the hallway, and the workers are just cutting up old advertisements as part of their work.  When he finally spares her some attention, she can barely understand what he’s saying due to his heavily accented Mandarin.  He studies her resume and comments that she went to a good school, but he notes her major wasn’t in advertising.  She tries to explain her background but they keep getting interrupted with the shouting conversations.  He then asks her how much money she would want and she tries to brightly answer that it’s not the money that matters to her, but the experience and she hopes to find a place that will allow her to grow and develop.  The owner sends her away to wait for her call.  She’s disappointed and dispirited when she rejoins Gu Wei Yi outside.  As they wait for the bus, Gu Wei Yi can tell she’s feeling down and starts to rifle through his bag.  Suddenly, she turns to him and thanks him for coming with her on her interview and suggest she treat him to dinner.  He says there’s no need for that because he has to go back and work on his problem set, and she tells him to think of it as him keeping her company while she eats.  She explains that when people are feeling down, they need to eat.  She then shares a story to explain her point, to which he responds that his spirits are feeling fine.  When Si Tu Mo just looks at him, we see him put the piece of bread he’d dug out back in his bag and set it to side. 

 

Si Tu Mo takes Gu Wei Yi to a burger place where next to them, there’s a little kid having a birthday aprty.  As part of the burger meal, they get a spinning top.  Just as they begin to squabble over who’s better at spinning the top, a gaggle of little kids join them at the table.  They challenge Gu Wei Yi to a game.  He tells the little kids that this is actually a hard game and he doesn’t want to see them cry, but that just has the little kids asking whether he’s being a chicken as they’re convinced he’s going to be the loser.  In the end, it’s the little kids who run away.  Gu Wei Yi reminds her that he’d warned that he would win.  He starts to go off on a physics explanation for why that is, but she just tells him she’s hungry and goes to find her burger to eat.

 

Back at the dorm, Fu Pei is calling Si Tu Mo to no avail.  When Gu Wei Yi walks in, Fu Pei asks how come he’s only returning now.  Gu Wei Yi explains that they went out to dinner.  Fu Pei misunderstands and thinks that Gu Wei Yi treated Si Tu Mo, so he promises to give him money in a minute.  Gu Wei Yi clarifies that it was Si Tu Mo who treated him, and Fu Pei asks him how he could spend a girl’s money.  Gu Wei Yi merely asks if a girl’s money isn’t money.  Haha.  Fu Pei has nothing to say in response to that and so asks instead how Si Tu Mo’s interview went. He comments that he’s been trying to call her, but he can’t get through.  Gu Wei Yi responds that she’s fallen asleep.  As Fu Pei thinks about his answer, he asks him, “Do you think Si Tu Mo is pretty”  That has Gu Wei Yi thinking back to their bus ride back to school.  Next to him, Si Tu Mo had kept nodding off and landing on his shoulder.  Each time he’d poke her until she sat back up, but she’d just fall back on him again.  Finally, he put a tissue on his shoulder and when she fell on him the next time, he let her stay and even smiled.  To Fu Pei, however, he responds, “I haven’t taken a good look.” 

 

Back at her dorm, Si Tu Mo updates her roommates on her terrible interview.  She tells them the company was hardly a professional one, yet they were the ones picking on her qualifications.  The studios roommate tells her that it’s often like that in real life and that she shouldn’t feel too bad.  She asks if Si Tu Mo’s eaten and when she says yes, they want to know who she ate with.  She tells them it’s the same person she’s told them about previously.  They’re all curious as to who this person is but Si Tu Mo tells them that even if she gave them a name, he wouldn’t know who he was.  So of course the roommates demand to know who he is and the minute they hear his name, they all gasp in surprise.  Of course they’ve heard of him!  And to each of them, he means something different.  For the studious roommate, he’s the person she has to compete against for a scholarship each year – although one of the other roommates reminds her that they can hardly be considered competitors when they’re in two different classes.  For the roommate who just wants to get married, she says he’s that handsome guy who likes to keep a low profile.  Si Tu Mo is surprised to hear that they all know about him and wonders how come she’s never heard of him.  Her roommates tell her it’s because all she does is watch her television shows.  As the conversation continues, her roommates comment that it really is a shame about Gu Wei Yi. 

 

It’s through her roommates that Si Tu Mo learns more details about that missed examination.  Which is why the next day, she goes to find Gu Wei Yi’s teacher (the one she met on the bus).  She runs into a female student and asks for her assistance in locating the teacher.  The female student (who is played by the same actress who played Jiang Chen’s doctor colleague in “A Love So Beautiful”) tells her that she was about to go look for the same teacher and invites her along.  The female student is delivering the test scores from the exam that Gu Wei Yi missed and, it is as feared, no one from their department tested well and instead, a student from the mathematics department came out on top.  The teacher sighs and sends the female student on her way.  That’s when he sees Si Tu Mo.  He doesn’t recognize her instantly, but when she reminds him of the bus, he says loudly, “Ah!  You’re Gu Wei Yi’s girlfriend.”  This is overheard by the female student who was just outside the office doorway.  Back inside the office, Si Tu Mo explains that she came today to better understand what happened with the missed examination.  In the end, the teacher takes her to meet the professor in charge and, to make a long story short, she convinces the professor into giving Gu Wei Yi another chance. He hands over a problem set and tells her that he’d like to see just how good this boyfriend of hers is. 

 

Si Tu Mo is waiting outside the boy’s dorm when Fu Pei runs out to meet her.  He’s comments that she actually came on her own to find him, and that he should go buy a lottery ticket.  She explains that she came looking for him because she needs his help with something.  When she starts to explain what the favor is about she realizes Fu Pei already knows about the missed examination business and admits she feels badly over the matter.  He tells her not to feel badly over it because it was all an accident.  She explains that she obtained another problem set from the professor and wants to give it to Gu Wei Yi, as maybe he still has a chance.  Fu Pei doesn’t think it’s going to work as he knows what Gu Wei Yi is like, but Si Tu Mo says she knows of a way to get him to comply.  Fu Pei agrees to take Si Tu Mo to find Gu Wei Yi, but as he starts to drag along, he suddenly stops and asks, “Do you think Gu Wei Yi is handsome?”  Si Tu Mo is so taken aback by the question that Fu Pei tells her to never mind and starts walking again. 

 

They find Gu Wei Yi in his lab where, as predicted, he’s resistant to the professor’s problem set, but Si Tu Mo has figured him out – probably based on the spinning top experience – and speaks to his competitive side by telling him that the professor didn’t think him capable of completing the problem set while she was convinced that he could.  Of course Gu Wei Yi ends up taking the problem set.  He spends a lot of time working on it and even gets up to use the chalkboard.  When he goes back to working on the paper, Si Tu Mo erases the chalkboard for him.  He notices this and thanks her for her help, but the second time she erases the blackboard, he comments that he wasn’t done with the problem yet.  Si Tu Mo just says, “Oh,” and retreats to the side.  Fu Pei, for his own part, has fallen asleep at another lab bench.  Finally, Gu Wei Yi finishes the problem set and when he hands the completed paper to her, she comments that it’s the first time she’s ever seen him smile.  Gu Wei Yi answers, “Doing problem sets makes me happy.”  Nerd. 

 

The threesome head out to hot pot for dinner where, as they wait for their food, Fu Pei spends the entire time on his phone leaving voice messages for other women.  It bothers Si Tu Mo and Gu Wei Yi notices this.  The waitress arrives and opens bottles of alcohol for the men.  When it comes to Si Tu Mo, she asks if “your girlfriend will drink.”  Fu Pei responds by saying Si Tu Mo’s not his girlfriend and that she won’t drink.  Si Tu Mo corrects him saying that she will drink – and then proceeds to drink all through dinner.  At one point, Fu Pei tells her to eat something and not just focus on drinking.  With a bright, smiling face, she asks him if he doesn’t know why she’s drinking.  When he mutters that he doesn’t know and that’s why he’s asking, she asks him if he likes to pretend he’s clueless.  She then asks him what kind of women he likes.  He asks if she’s planning on introducing her to someone.  He comments that he’s noticed her department has a lot of women in it and suggests she keep an eye out for him.  Si Tu Mo readily agrees.  Around this time, the teacher suddenly walks past.  He greets Gu Wei Yi by commenting that he’s on another date with Si Tu Mo.  This catches Fu Pei off guard, especially since Gu Wei Yi merely agrees and puts food on Si Tu Mo’s plate. 

 

Later that night, the two men walk Si Tu Mo home.  She keeps teetering and every time Fu Pei reaches out for her, she throws him off insisting that she’s fine.  She finally tells Fu Pei that he’s ugly, which causes Gu Wei Yi to smirk, but then she adds that since he’s ugly, she really doesn’t want to like him anymore.  He comments that she’s had a lot to drink but she just tells him off before turning away to walk into her dorm. 

 

Outside her dorm, Fu Pei tells Gu Wei Yi to explain himself and his relationship with Si Tu Mo.  Gu Wei Yi answers honestly that he ran into his teacher when Fu Pei asked him to accompany Si Tu Mo to her interview.  Since his teacher wanted him to go find that professor, he used dating Si Tu Mo as an excuse for why he couldn’t.  Fu Pei points out that he’s already done the problem set now, so he asks why he kept up the lie.  Gu Wei Yi answers that he did it to give him a lesson.  Fu Pei asks him what he means by that and Gu Wei Yi says he’s hiding from Si Tu Mo’s feelings.  Fu Pei says they’re just friends, and Gu Wei Yi says, “Is that so?  Then under what status are you interrogating me right now?”  Fu Pei has no good answer for that and so he just tells Gu Wei Yi to keep his distance from Si Tu Mo.  Gu Wei Yi says it doesn’t really matter to him, but he tells Fu Pei to ask himself whether he can handle things.  He then pats Fu Pei on the shoulder and walks off.

 

As Fu Pei watches Gu Wei Yi walk away he flashes back to a time in high school when Si Tu Mo had been at the desk seated next to his, packing away her things.  Across the room, two girls were comforting another girl who had her head down on the desk.  He finally couldn’t take it anymore and stood up asking if the girls were going to keep this up.  The crying girl stood up as well and said yes.  She then confronted Si Tu Mo by asking if it was true that she and Fu Pei were going to be together after graduation.  Fu Pei wouldn’t let her respond and answered for her instead by saying that they weren’t going to be together.  Si Tu Mo looked up at him in shock, and in the next scene, we see her walking by herself as Fu Pei races to catch up to her.  He tries to explain that he was just trying to keep thing simple given that they’re graduating soon anyway.  She asks him if he’s scared and tells him she’s not scared.  When he keeps after her, she suggests they break up.  As they argue, a group of girls walk past and whisper that she’s the one who snagged Fu Pei.  It, honestly, isn’t quite clear what’s going on but the gist I get from this scene is that Fu Pei was trying to put things in a way such that Si Tu Mo wouldn’t keep getting gossiped about or picked on by other girls.  She, on the other hand, interpreted that to mean that he wasn’t sincere about wanting to be in a (future) relationship with her.  In the end, they break up and agree to be friends – although they’re not exactly happy in that moment when they’re agreeing to be friends.

 

Back in the present, Fu Pei walks home in the darkness by himself.

 

End

 

Epilogue: Fu Pei was able to get Gu Wei Yi to accompany Si Tu Mo on her interview by threatening to reveal something to the entire school if he didn’t.  In the epilogue, we get to see what it is.  Apparently Gu Wei Yi got drunk after missing the examination, donned a military uniform, and drunkenly admitted how he really felt about missing the examination.  Oh, the embarrassment!  LOL.

I've watched the 2 episodes with the subs! They were so cute and I love their relationship dynamic already. I wasn't too convinced by the first half of episode 1 but when they started interacting more, the lines actually made me crack up and there was the right amount of intrigue between the other relationships to keep me interested. Acting wise, not the best, of course, the males especially I feel were a bit lacking and stiff, but hopefully the iceberg will melt a little soon. I'm loving the pace of the drama so far, I've only watched 2 episodes but it feels longer somehow. Debating whether I should continue watching the raw episodes but let's sleep for now haha

He was classified as the type of person who, while travelling across ten thousand flowers, came in contact with the flowers, in contact with the leaves, in contact with the faeces used as fertilizer*, therefore Situ Mo gave up on him, and turned into Gu Wei Yi’s embrace instead. Fu Pei suddenly came back to his senses and returned to being a good man, but Situ Mo was firm in her decision…. Anyway, they have a story between them, what’s right, what’s wrong, I am not that sure. However, Situ Mo and Gu Wei Yi became a pair, so we know that in their story, Fu Pei is definitely a supporting role, a thousand wrongs, or ten thousand wrongs, it’s all the supporting role’s wrong.

I just started watching tonight and finished episode 2.  It's quite CUTE so far!!  I love the random use quirky sound effects LOL.  I didn't watch A Love So Beautiful, but I read from the posts above that it is a sister story to it.  Is it somewhat of a prequel to a few of the side characters in A Love So Beautiful?  Anyway, I am looking forward to watching more.  I am curious to know what is up with Fu Pei and why he keeps avoiding Mo Mo's feelings.

I really like how matured Gu Wei Yi is.  He is not the usual arrogant big IQ guy.  So I like him so much.  But the second lead character Fu Pei is different.  Why is he such a jerk??  I like how the OTP's love is progressing esp. GWY's excuses for STM to make her come back to live with him.  Cute.

Awww just saw ep 1!!! Momo likes her guy friend, but he is so oblivious!! Her interactions with GWY is nice to see :)!! GWY is cute and handsome!!! Can't wait for their love interactions^^

 

edit: Just finished ep 2. Fu Pei is such an idiot. I like how Momo said their frequency doesn't match at all. Momo def deserved better than FP!! That guy is just using her emotions and friendship, knowing that she likes him. SMH, such a jerk.

@pad-hari Hard to say how the drama will adapt the novel.  The excerpts I shared above are from the "A Love So Beautiful" novel.  In the drama, those characters (Xiao Xi's boss and co-worker) also existed but in a slightly different iteration.  For example, Xiao Xi's boss in the drama was a senior classmate of Jiang Chen's from university. 

 

This drama is adapted from "A Love So Beautiful's" sister web novel.  Although I don't think this drama's web novel has been translated into English, the above excerpts show how the two novels are intertwined.  I haven't looked into which novel was published first but in terms of the narrative timeline, it looks like this story comes first since by the time of "A Love So Beautiful", Situ Mo and Gu Wei Yi are already married with a child.  Hope that clarifies things a little bit more for you! 

 

As for how much the drama shows us, again, that will depend on the screenwriter and director and how much they decide to show us.  They may also choose to make some artistic license changes, as "A Love So Beautiful" did on spinning certain characters from the book to the drama.  What they ultimately decide to do, we shall have to wait and see! 

 

I will say though that just from the opening and end credits alone, there are so many sweet moments between Situ Mo and Gu Wei Yi that I'm hopeful this will be one of those dramas where the OTP start a relationship in the middle of the drama and not just at the end!!    

 

I've watched through to episode 8 and I think I can say openly, without fear of spoiling anyone, that it is so obvious Gu Wei Yi is interested in Situ Mo.  Unfortunately, to her, he continues to show his disinterested and grumpy side so she remains utterly clueless.  It's making me shake my head at them both!  LOL.  But he is cracking me up with his otherwise obvious attempts to keep her around.  In that regard, this drama has defied my expectations.  I fully expected it would be the case where they would meet, bicker, and then discover to their horror that they stuck living as roommates, and then bicker their way into falling in love.  I never expected it would be the case where she keeps trying to move back out and he keeps trying to drag her back into living with him.  Haha.  I love it.

 

As for Fu Pei, I don't think he's a horrible person, I think he's just a commitment-phobe.  Even in the "A Love So Beautiful" novel, he continues to play the field and is unable to settle down.  In this drama, however, it looks like he may ultimately settle down with Situ Mo's roommate (the braniac one).  For his sake, I hope he does.  She seems like a good person.

The height difference between Momo and GWY is so stinking cute!  I know it's about the same height difference between Momo and Fu Pei, but I don't find it as cute LOL.

Hello hello!! I’m obsessed with the drama!!! Just finished watching ep 1-4, and loving all the sugars so far. Yes, the male lead is stiff, but nothing I cant withstand, just a bit stiffer than yang yang in Love O2O 

 

Daily life has been annoying lately, and all I need is a healthy dose of drama free- saccharine filled love story.

The male lead is a little stiff, but it fits his nerdy awkward character quite well.  Plus, he comes across as cold/indifferent, but his soft side does show in the subtle ways that he does seem to care about Momo.  I am on episode 4 and I love how the doctor at the hospital assumes that GWY and MoMo are boyfriend/girlfriend and GWY doesn't correct him LOL.  Fu Pei sure enters into the picture at the worst timing for GWY.  It was cute when MoMo needed a hair tie for her oily hair at the hospital so she asked GWY if he had one.  GWY responded to her with "Does it look like I have one?", but then he buys her one from the pharmacy.  Unfortunately, Fu Pei had to show up at that moment so GWY ends up tossing it in the trash can.  Sigh...

 

(Edit:  I just finished episode 4.  Ugh...and Fu Pei had to come honking and interrupt their sweet moment at the retrieving the bed sheet scene.  I'm glad MoMo didn't let Fu Pei make her feel guilty about not telling him about her and GWY's living situation.  When MoMo injured her finger re-washing the bed sheet, GWY was so sweet to tell her it's okay to cry if it hurts.  Obviously, he didn't mean her finger.  I have to say their watermelon-eating scene together was so adorable!  Last, GWY actually bought the hair tie from a little girl at the hospital.  SO CUTE!)
