It's the way he is written and what the writer wants to do with the character. It's in part to do with the fact that he's wears multiple hats, we don't know if he's coming or going and his sincerity is called into question repeatedly with no real underlying depth to his motivations. In the hands of a better writer I think, KSH could be a far more interesting and sympathetic antihero. PHJ has played antiheroes before... superbly I might add... but this show with its often use of clumsy humour just doesn't do the character justice. Sad but true. SH as a character has been pretty unrelatable for me. The writing has been uninspiring and subpar. Honestly I don’t know what the message (if there is one) of this drama is. There has been no common thread running through. It tries to be too many things and does it piecemeal so in the end, it leaves everyone wondering what the drama was about in the first place. Is it the plight of Rescue Unit members? Forest conservation? Big bad conglomerate Vs Villagers? Too many things just cobbled together with no real direction. Thankfully this hasn’t been a “hate watch” for me because I can still look at some of the dialogue to glean something out of it. And the fact that I don’t mind the main leads. Not much longer now till the end. Personally for me I am not a big fan of PHJ and his aegyo. It doesn’t sit well with his personality. If he wants to explore that side of him, then he should attempt dry wit or dark humour. It sits better with his personality type. But hey, being an artist is about exploring. I am tentative about his new drama. I was hoping for a more serious storyline and less rom com. Less frivolity, more levity. Back to basics. Not sure when I will get the chance to recap Ep26. calledtoteach
I was genuinely interested in this drama, but alas, THE THRILL IS GONE! 1. Subs are too delayed. 2. Characters are all over the place. 3. Is this supposed to be funny? NOT! 4. I have no earthly idea what the real storyline should be.
nrllee
Ep 26 SH collapses and TL comes in to rescue him. Flashback to a scene where he is trying to reach out to a girl in the flames. SH blacks out —— SH wakes in hospital. Is startled by YJ (he thinks she’s the girl). YJ comforts him. He asks about the child her found. YJ tells him she died. She says it’s understandable that he would freak out with such a scene and says it would help if he talks about it. He asks her if she remembers him asking her about the Wild Rabbit song/nursery rhyme (back in the hospital when he was drugged out and hugged her). He seems to want to say more but hesitates. She hugs him. Then tells him not to rush it and says why don’t they go catch wild rabbits in the future and deal with that memory then. She says she will always be by his side. He draws her in for another one of his beautiful hugs . —— CC’s dad talks to CC on the phone. CC still refuses to come home. —— Back at house. CC is playing a game (Nintendo?). SH is getting an outfit (suit) ready to go to work. He tells CC he wants him out of the house before he comes home again. CC says it’s normal to feel out of sorts when you first see a dead body and in time it will be okay. CC sees the whistle and tells SH it’s what hunters use to lure animals out from the woods. He says his dad has one exactly like it. Flashback - SH sees a whistle hanging around the neck of someone in the fire. SH’s phone rings and it’s CC’s dad at the door. SH tells CC to go outside. CC’s dad arrives and they exchange documents. He passes SH all the signatures from Villagers and SH hands him a certificate. He turns to leave but sneaks back and sees CC. Dad chases CC out and tells him to come home. —— YJ at hospital worries about psychological trauma on SH as she remembers all the Unit members she’s seen with problems. She dials ED and tells him she will take up his offer of managing the trauma center. —— Back at RLI (SH’s company). He reports to his boss and says he’s done everything necessary to seal the deal. His boss says since it’s all done now, he should head back to Seoul. SH hesitates and his boss notices. His boss says he looks different from the cold calculating SH who only thinks about money but waves it off. His boss gets a phone call and tells SH to leave. SH looks suspicious. —— River. SH and YJ looking for pretty rocks. YJ hesitates when SH tells her to head to deeper water. SH says it’s okay to be scared. YJ asks if he is looking to help her get over her fear. SH says she doesn’t need to worry that she can’t save herself because he’s got her back. Even if the water swept her down a waterfall or some whirlpool, he promised he would find her and save her. He says he will never let her die alone. She smiles. They head back on bike. SH asks if she she wants to head back to Seoul. She says she has fallen in love with the life here so she will find it hard to go back. And she still has important stuff to do here so she has no plans to. She tells him about the heavy metal water reports. —— Timber mill. CC sees the 2 men who started the fire. He rings OBM to tell her. She heads over. CC’s dad finds him and he tells him about the laborers who started the fire. Dad rings the police and the 2 men are taken away just as BM pulls up. Dad heads into his office and rings ED. They talk business. I think ED says it’s not his problem anymore. Dad says he will tell all that happened 25years ago if he doesn’t play nice. ED says he will deal with the police side of things on his behalf. —— Hospital. Dr Park’s soil sample has high levels of Arsenic. YJ says it’s even higher than the water sample levels. Dr Park they need to alert the government authorities. —— Sec and SH look through old reports and fins something suspicious about the number of experts hired in the past to deal with the development. They wonder why the Taesong went through so much effort to hire these experts in a simple forest development. SH says the should talk to their boss again about these new findings. —— YJ finds that the old man who was sent there has been moved out of treatment and into rehabilitation (?). She’s shocked and heads there. —— Sec and SH head back to Seoul HQ and find their pass cards don’t work anymore. They find out that their whole division has been made redundant. SH tries to dial his boss but the call goes straight to voicemail. He recalls what YJ said about the heavy metals found in Miryeong Forest. He links it all together and realizes that the deal was to conceal (?) the contamination? (I didn’t catch this well). —— YJ at Seoul hospital trying to track down the old man. She sees that he’s deteriorated and gets him into an ambulance to transfer him to a treatment center. The staff tell her without authorization she can’t do that but she insists regardless. —— Ambulance transport. Old man goes into cardiac arrest. YJ tried desperately to save him. He flatlines. Sirens can be heard and the police stop the ambulance. —— SH heads into Forest area (in 4WD) high in the mountains. He sees digger working on a pit with dirty water. It stinks. Another digger (?) appears from nowhere and pushes him off the edge and he rolls into the muddy waters. He’s soaked and he sees an outflow of some dirty water trickling down from an outlet. Let me go look now regarding Preview. Preview YJ - that’s not the truth. This is all not true. (she’s led away by police) SH - I hope you will just stop minding someone else’s business. (YJ in jail cell) (SH giving YJ piggyback in rapids) YJ - I will pursue it right to the end. And make sure justice is served. (SH looks at document - Name list of deaths in Miryeong) SH - what is this? What’s in the Forest? (SH and another man) voiceover - it’s been planned right from the start (YJ looking at some document) YJ - what is this? YJ asking SH - Did you hide this? (Keep this from me) SH - Can’t you just look at me? YJ - If I am against this, can you let go of your work? (SH wheels his luggage away from house) Voiceover as SH looks sad ED - we’ve already issued a warning to KSH. Let’s move forward with our plan. Let’s eat (deal with) the dog (??) - I think they mean deal with him because he used the analogy of the dog (SH) and biting the owner from an episode before. Can’t be sure. SH gets hit with brick by CC’s dad

Some here have called him a villain (I used the word "caricature") but I think the biggest problem for me is that he's so all over the place emotionally and personality wise that he's largely unrelatable. It's the way he is written and what the writer wants to do with the character. It's in part to do with the fact that he's wears multiple hats, we don't know if he's coming or going and his sincerity is called into question repeatedly with no real underlying depth to his motivations. PHJ has played antiheroes before... superbly I might add... but this show with its often use of clumsy humour just doesn't do the character justice. The show took too long to get to where it is now with regards to KSH. Even a show like 9.5 billion Woman with all its myriads of sins gave the audience a well-rounded but highly flawed central character. Maybe the writer originally planned to write KSH character as an antihero but it came out as villain instead because it’s hard to called him an antihero when he said himself that he is above the law and his subordinates need to find any loophole in the law in order to achieve the goals... Those so called loopholes were bribing, blackmailing, you name it. With that characteristic of his, IF he doesn’t have a special connection with The Forest and didn’t meets YJ in that Forest, I would say he isn’t any different with Taesung people. This drama throw us every single thing under the sky, including kitchen sink like you said. I will add that this coming episodes, they are throwing us toilet bowl... I am started to feel overwhelming, anyway it’s almost the finale...
