cenching
@beyaruth I would say majority of Foresters will definitely agreed with that poster. Forest is indeed a healing drama because of the earth wind fire and water despite the weird and bizarre editing, writing etc. Not to mentioned Haejin-Boah are such spicy eye candies ON SCREEN.... Forest has a potential to be a great drama but somewhere along the way something just went wrong.... But hey! I enjoy seeing different sides of Haejin on screen after years of hiatus. Those blinding aegyo are cringe-worthy and addictive at the same time..., combined with a clingy romantic I-will-die-for-you boyfriend mode with kisses that made us self-fanning are to die for. It's good enough for me.... Next, Haejin's Old School Intern (seems to be non romance because his OTP is an old guy) is coming on May and Boah's Gumiho will be on September(?)...Looking forward to it.... nrllee
Sorry haven’t had a chance to recap Ep32 but I will give you this tidbit. In the final scene when they are on bikes and she whispers in his ear? He looks at her and calls her a pervert. No wonder they rushed home after. Yeah, he asked her how the way she can be happy when she can only see him during weekends because of her psychiatrist internship? She whispered in his ear and he called her pervert....Wondering what she whispered....
Fabbo
I just watched the last episodes. I think most people agree that the drama was pretty messy. I still somehow enjoyed it. Also due to the lack of romances when it was airing. I am not sure if i would have watched it now with a lot of romances coming up. The last episode was pretty crammed. Another reminder how the drama had a little bit of everything. I found it pretty funny how at the end the whole Taeyang group plot got resolved by paying someone a lot of money. Not unrealistic. But i still found it funny how everything else they've done was useless. The emotional reconnection was good but felt a bit short. And i already forgot about JYJ and her parents accident. But i thought that scene with her in the water was beautiful. I love the ost 4 Yuji-Always there as well. I would have liked more scenes like that. More emphasis on the healing part, the beautiful setting, their work as a doctor and at the rescue station. Their emotional journey. That doesn't mean all the other parts were bad. I liked his assistant. Some of the busisness back and forth was fun. The villain was pretty fun and suddenly became a lot more scary than expected. It just doesn't mesh that well all in one drama. I should add that i really liked the romance and chemistry.

I couldn’t ever connect with the whole business side of things and diabolical environmental toxic waste dump plot. It just seemed very contrived. I wouldn’t have minded just the Rescue Unit and YJ country doctoring and of course the romance. That would’ve been enough.

40somethingahjumma
Even though this show ended far better than it started, I don't know if this is something I would recommend unabashedly to any who cares about my opinion. True that it doesn't reach the same level of absurdity as Dr Stranger, to harken back to another PHJ outing that was all over the place, but that's a low hanging fruit comparison. When one considers how decent- v. good his last 3 dramas were... Bad Guys, Cheese in the Trap and Man to Man... this is quite disappointing. On paper somebody thought this would work. Certainly it has elements of a good drama. The cinematography is quite superb as many have pointed out and I too have a love for tree photography but good ideas alone don't make for a decent drama. Needless to say a good script matters. If nothing else this drama proves that it absolutely matters. If for no other reason than to provide a sense of cohesion and consistency. Looking at the last 6 episodes I can't help but think that this is the show they really wanted to make... the man-made environmental disaster caused by Big Business and a psychopathic chaebol heir. All the other extraneous baggage about the rescue service, the childhood trauma, PTSD in high risk occupations, even the romancing ... all of that was largely filler to help pad the drama all the way to the end. Each of these elements could have been interesting subjects for their own drama but in the way it was pieced together here, it made the storytelling tonally inconsistent. I'm happy to watch a revenge plot unfold but at least do it with decisiveness. In reality the show wanted to make mysteries out of things that really weren't real mysteries. For seasoned drama watchers, it was reasonably obvious where things were headed. It took a number of well-used tropes which isn't a sin in and of itself but it did nothing interesting with them. It's clear that KSH was meant to be glue that brought all the disparate elements together but had instead the unfortunate effect of turning him into a dissociative personality. The part of the show I really liked and was woefully underdeveloped was the rescue service. In the end it was relegated to the sidelines when at the start it was seen to be the biggest impediment to KSH getting that resort built. My opinion is that they should have approached this beginning with the rescue service. It should have been the glue. If they were going to spend a ton of money on hiring helicopters and doing aerial shots, this is where the show should have anchored its moral and emotional compass. Looking at the product as a whole, I would have trimmed it down to the following bare essentials: KSH could have been working as a corporate raider at some point in his life where he accumulates untold wealth but with some/all of his childhood memories intact of the fire. He finds out Taesung aims to develop a resort on the mountain and piquing his interest, he looks into it. He smells a rat, resigns from his old job and then sets out to avenge his sister by returning to Miryeong in a bid to find out what's going on. He joins the rescue service, gets to know the various personnel in it and becomes involved in small and large rescue operations where he learns to trust others. While there, he eventually falls for JYJ, a johnnycomelately doctor but because of his revenge plan he is afraid to get too close. Over time he gathers the evidence he needs and gets the help he needs from the doctor friend and colleagues from the rescue services to take down Goliath. I never go into a drama wanting to dislike it. Even when I hear mixed reactions about a drama, I always keep an open mind. Sometimes I even find myself disagreeing with the majority opinion. But in this instance, I've enjoyed our interactions on this thread more than the actual drama. I felt frustrated with this drama more often than not because it was always clear to me that somewhere in this hodge podge of ideas was a good drama waiting to be made. PS (off topic) Spoiler Whilst waiting for PHJ’s next outing, I am watching 365 which premiered last night. Shameless plug. It’s off to a good start (although the time travel concept means it will inherently be fraught with plot holes). Come join us if you’re in the mood for a thriller.
