Its hilarious... im not sure why this drama is getting high ratings; maybe because its winter and people dont want to go out often hence are watching this highly irritating drama... indeed, one can get high blood pressure from the slow episodes and the content as we all love a happy drama where husbands dont cheat but VIP is about a drama showing the audience how a husband cheats with his colleague and torments his innocent wife......

it is unfortunate that LSY is getting the hate, globally, for his role as PSJ.... its okay, its only a drama LSY, now people know u as a handsome man cheater, ... is it your 1st evil role? :D

I just wanna read the drama ending on this thread... rather than watching it... i have given up earlier on... kudos to those who have the strength to carry on and increased their blood pressure because of the drama... :D

Lol.   I wish i could quit this show also for my blood pressure.  But only 2 episodes left!!

JS is not pregnant.  She is stressed out because of SJ and the mistress.  Understandably so!  Excessive stress can cause physical symptoms!

SJ is into the mistress!  Did you see the surprised look on SJ's face when the mistress agreed to the matchmaker's interview?  Even after SW completed his interview, SJ told YR she did not have to do it.   After all, if SJ is her man, why would YR agree to a matchmaker's interview?   Did you see the look on the YR's face when she was asked to do the matchmaker's interview?  She was excited about the interview and jumped at the chance!

JS is being pressured by the new chairman and the VP's wife to bring down the VP.  They don't really care about SJ or YR.  They are using SJ's affair with YR as emotional fodder to get JS to do their bidding, which is bring down the VP.  JS sees right through them and she knows what their agenda is.  Thats why she never revealed to either of them what she thinks about SJ.

However, now that JS has realized how little she knows SJ and how dirty he really is, she has some thinking to do about how she really feels and what to do about everything she knows.  I loved the last scene in episode 14 when JS stops and stares at SJ.  For the first time since her life was turned upside down, JS sees SJ for who he really is. I think the last two episodes will show how JS's decisions and actions will teach SJ what decency really looks like.  In other words, no revenge, but simply right from wrong.

Hopefully, JS will divorce SJ in the end.  Even if JS and SJ come to some sort of understanding of how things went astray in their marriage, SJ was so ugly and so disrespectful to JS, it would be a travesty of justice if they stayed together.   I think JS will find peace and SJ will live with regret; as it should be.

As for this mistress, who cares?

Part 2 of my ranting over Ep. 14 (if not this week's episodes and the overall drama progression) coming up! ^_^

Standard disclaimers aka apologies in advance :sweatingbullets::

  1. Long rants
  2. Multiple (cuts of) posts

10 hours ago, ktcjdrama said:

How can it be bad acting if that’s exactly what the director wants? Just because a character is created to have bland expression, it doesn’t mean that the actor is bad in acting out that unlikeable bland expression. In real life, there are actually people who go around their life with such bland expressions. I will only say an actor cannot act if, for every character he takes on in various dramas, he only shows that same expression forever. Here, LSY is PSJ, a man of few words with sullen bland face. I have seen LSY in many dramas and he can act as different characters.

Anyway, why was YR rather shaken with the matchmaker interview... My thought is that she is being reminded to think of her potential married partner with her position as Ha Yu Ri, not as Ohn Yu Ri. I think it is dawning on her that PSJ isn’t a person that her new family will approve. So she became conflicted.

I have several (maybe I'm exaggerating, but I'm still frustrated over seeing JS still being (metaphorically) kicked to the floor by SJ, YR, and the VP) complaints  about the drama...and Lee Sangyoon's acting (and Pyo Yejin's, the actress playing YR) is NOT one of them. As pointed out by @ktcjdrama, @sin hoonsim and any other Soompiers I forgot to mention here, Lee Sangyoon has shown various facial expressions in other dramas; it's just this drama where the screenwriter and director probably instructed SJ to adopt this blank, "poker-faced", but unmistakably guilt-ridden facial expression.

Notice even in the Ep. 11 flashback the transition of SJ's facial expressions from:

  1. A happy, hopeful SJ who was helping JS set up their nursery room for their unborn baby, to
  2. A concerned, wary SJ who was trying to talk with an increasingly depressed, emotionally-shut-off JS during their one-year grieving period (though SJ should have continued staying by JS's side instead of "unburdening" his pain over his unborn baby and his deceased father to YR), to
  3. The present blank but obviously guilt-ridden SJ who doesn't know how to undo the initial betrayal that he caused behind JS's back when JS finally stepped out of the nursery room and went to him for consolation.

Lee Sangyoon did what he can with an otherwise thankless role as SJ whose true nature of his affair with YR and his allegiance with the VP we've (and JS?) only seen the tip of the iceberg. (Off topic, better pack a crash helmet and a parachute glider before swallowing the red pill and delving into SJ's and the VP's past dealings in the company, JS..:fearful:)

Now, allow me to vent out my grievances toward the (screenwriter and/or the director of) the VIP drama, starting with the smallest but MOST IMPORTANT one highlighted by @DL Wetherill in the quoted post below:

14 hours ago, DL Wetherill said:

I been dying to ask this....who in the world came up with that haircut/hairstyle for SJ. What in the world

NGL, my mother watches this drama too, and she asked me yesterday why Lee Sangyoon/SJ has this "loser" haircut/hairstyle!?:tounge_xd: I was so engrossed (code: frustrated at my wit's end) over the drama that I was wondering, "Where did that come from, Mom?" Little did I (and my mother) know that @DL Wetherill and perhaps more Soompiers (and viewers) asked the same rhetorical question...

First the blank facial expression, now the haircut/hairstyle...Lee Sangyoon/SJ certainly can't catch a break (well, SJ, NOT Lee Sangyoon, deserves worse criticism than those, but oh well)...

And speaking of catching breaks...us Soompiers need to (re)read two of @Ameera Ali's post/memes here and here. Apparently the two-timing hypocrite SJ can't get a handle on the two leading ladies in his life and is being told off by his (rich) hoobae SW. Here're my three words of advice for SJ (and YR and the VP, while we're at it):

When she says you lost your world,  she's talking about SJ. She said that when he first brought her home,  she was relieved.  Not only because she was kind and gentle,  but she looked like she meant the world to him!

I whole heartedly agree with his mama's words.  He got caught up in the moment,  in the heat of passion, regardless of what he was doing for VP, this was outside of that. He stumbled and wavered from his wife on his own.   Their troubles and hardships were too much to bear and YR redirected his thoughts, and also gave him the attention and affection he was not currently getting from his wife. What a cop out and worst mistake he will ever make!!!  But whatever he and YR had was just that.. a moment.  He will realize this soon enough, and just what he's lost because when it hits him, we will know because, it will bring him to his knees!!!

Sorry to cut your post, @2good2btru. And, no, you (and any Soompier or viewer out here) are never late to discuss anything about this drama; we're here and seething in rage...:rage:

SJ got caught up the moment...of highly-charged, misplaced grief and empathy towards himself and YR at the expense of JS's wellbeing. As @2good2btru brought up, SJ felt shut off by JS that he shifted his attention to his work (as the VP's lapdog) and YR's "woes". Still, it's SJ's fault for assuming that JS will live the rest of her life shutting off from him over the stillbirth, or that JS is "strong enough" that she doesn't need his shoulder to cry on like the "pitiful" YR. Hello!? No matter how willful and strong JS is, that doesn't mean she can or has to shoulder the pain and grief by herself. JS herself said that she wished SJ lashed out at her over his grief or frustration at the stillbirth and/or JS's emotional distance; for she wouldn't judge him for his breakdown as long as he shares it with her.

But good lord, SJ's not doing any favors with JS by distancing from her, ingratiating himself with the VP and YR, and still being elusive with JS over his personal and professional affairs. As long as SJ keeps on prolonging his (many) chances of reconciliation and forthrightness with JS, he will realize too late his cop-out, worst mistake and won't even be able to give closure to JS (AND the VIP team, who are now unwittingly caught in crossfires over SJ's affair between JS and the VP/SJ/YR traitor-triangle).

One thing good that the writer points out if this drama is the men who is imperfect and flawed (Byung Hoon, JinHo and Sang Woo) are much more of a man to their women as compared to a perfect man envied by many (PSJ). Meaning to say mediocre sometimes are better. :D

That brings me back to the infamous Cha pyramid in Sky Castle, where the wealthy but humble (and hilariously funny) Woo family, particularly their not-so-academically-inclined but wise middle-school child Woo Soohan, pointed out that staying in the middle guarantees a middle ground of ultimate happiness and contentment, whereas striving for the top usually results in imminent resentment and dissatisfaction (if not irreversible breakdown).

Not only do BH, JH, and SW fit that "middle ground", but they're commendable for owning up to their flaws and mistakes and listening to and respecting their significant others (I know, SW doesn't officially have a significant other, but I consider his dynamic with JS and the VIP team as such in this case).

I will also give the screenwriter kudos for fleshing out quite realistically MN's overall circumstances as a working mother who never got promoted for six years, nearly lost her marriage and job over her misguided trust in working with Director Bae, and is now struggling over the prospect of quitting her work due to her unplanned pregnancy. Thank goodness her husband BH is stepping up to help MN around the house and request for more job tasks to financially support their family, when he could have otherwise been blaming MN for temporarily moving out and scheduling for an abortion without informing him or their two little children of anything. I hope that JS is still holding on to MN's resignation letter in case MN changes her mind about quitting and instead requests for maternity leave.

In other (happier) news, JH says he'll think about HA's request in going out, but his initiating the hand-holding speaks volumes...this ship is sailing...

That concludes Part 2 of my ranting of this week's episodes (and the overall drama progression).

Just watched ep14 wth subs n noticed sthg in Yuri's mood during n aft her session wth d matchmaker.

2nd time d lady askd her choice of husband now tht her status has changed? Yuri kind of hesitated?

1.  She just discovered SW is a Minister's son.

2.  Appeared like she swayed to give an answer

3. Later in the car she commented to SW seems rather close wth JS.

4. Just wondering if she is contemplating going aft SW? Yuri once commented tht she is jealous of JS.. so mayb she too must now grab hold of SW?

5. She was secretly listening in to d chatters of other family members as she ws heading to the restroom. Then the unkind words coming fm her father tht from now on she must start to forget her mother??

6. Aft the family meal in the car we saw her deep in thoughts.. well lets see if she makes a move this time on SW???

I've just watched ep 14 with subs and now I have an idea about the ending.

No reconciliation because JS finally found out that SJ is unworthy of her self-destruction. We know that JS has issues with people who decides to abandon their lawfully wedded spouse do to the history with her mom. Unfortunately, she married a guy exactly like that. Even worse, her husband was actually an agent/ middle man of a person with numerous mistress. Instead of condoning such acts, SJ indirectly supports such behaviour by repeatedly managing the VPs mistress. Upon that realisation, JS would be able to find her peace at the end of the show.

YR will also finally realise that she is merely the VPs pawn. She is only useful when she still is useful. If YR decides to stay with SJ, VP won't be able to marry her off to another powerful family. So she is no longer a viable investment.

The VP, mistress, fund scandal will blow off so VP will have to leave the company. SJ leaves too because he is casualty. YR continues with her pitiful look by the road.

The 4 ladies - JS, HA, MA and JY flips their hair and walks towards the sunset. The 3 guys - JH, SW and BH follow behind the ladies.:D:D:D

Sang Woo wouldn’t go near YR “with a ten foot pole” it is clear how disgusted he is with her and what she has done to JS. There is a “snowballs chance in hell” that Sang Woo would have anything to do with her.

I also think it is dawning on YR she can do even better than SJ. The HA family will look down on SJ the same as his half siblings but probably worse.

Regarding LSY’s acting, I think it is great. He is impossible to read- and has kept me guessing and compelled to keep watching each week. I find myself rewinding interactions to look for subtle body language, hand clenches, jaws ticking, following lingering stares and think the director and him (and the other actors) are doing a really good job.

He seems a pleasant actor but his character PSJ inspires such hatred, and I am keeping scanning for signs that he isn’t really a villain (but not finding enough to convince me sadly!)

I am sorry Yuri’s mum died and they didn’t have much cash but really..she had a loving Mum, enough cash to eat but possible not enough to buy a Hermes bag. Oh woe. Get over it love and stop using it as an excuse to be selfish. How will two such narcissists survive in a relationship?

I am team Sangwoo. Look at his lovely parents as inspiration. No games needed.

Perhaps because it is something people could relate too. Been there done that, oh how I wish i coukd handle it like them etc. Perhaps because they couldnt release stress or anger, letting it out through the drama is one way to mske themselves feel better. If you haven't started working or have started working but havent had a chance to be in any of the women's shoes then consider yourself lucky. This is the real world for you. Things like this happen everyday somewhere in this big world. Balancing between the job and family is what we women do everyday. Some are fortunate enough not having to choose between the 2 but not everyone is that fortunate. I got passed over for a promotion not because the candidate had more experiences or could do a better job but only because her mother was a deputy director. Our company just got exposed because someone high up got caught having an affair with an intern in the office (must be the excitement of having fun in the public place). You might be getting riled up temporary until the show is over but when you have to be in these situations yourself the stress is extremely higher and it lasts for a very long time.

Well here we go, a reaction from the man himself acting in the role:-

On the December 18th live stream 'To You Who Took the Trouble', Lee Sang Yoon commented on the popularity of 'VIP' and the hate he's receiving for playing the part of a cheating and conniving husband. He said, "I have never in my entire life been insulted so much. I expected it, but it exceeded my expectations. A lot of people came in to the chatroom to curse me, and over 10,000 people have come in. Because people are getting sucked into the drama, I'm being cursed out a lot."

His co-star Shin Jae Ha then commented, "Hyung said that the more his character Park Sung Joon is cursed at, the better the drama is doing, and it's doing well." Lee Sang Yoon added, "It's doing extremely well. I'm being criticized from across the globe. If being hated on is succeeding, it's really succeeding."

Have to agree with this one.  Its easy to like the good guy but if you really dispise the bad one then they are doing their acting job well.

Ep 14: END OF THE MAZE or end of my mind I would so love to punch Yuri and SJ just once in the face! JK

The scene SJ with his Mom her emotions are palpable and I could feel the years of regret in her voice.  How can anyone want our heroine to forgive SJ ever!  VIP addicts lets live in reality this is FICTONAL So here it goes...SJ loves Yuri no matter how much it pains me to say it, he does in his imposter, dirty, adulterer, illegitimate bond way.  In this episode he celebrated her birthday with a cake to boot.  That leads me to believe the man more than pity's Yuri.  Before our heroine becomes more broken and transform into someone she is not but stay true to herself someone kind & lovely like SJ mother described her she needs to surgically remove this cancer from her life. I believe she is ready to move on now. What comes around goes around as the saying goes and those who cause harm to others surely eventually pay the price. She married someone for all the right reasons 10 years ago and now we know as I stated in previous post he's a complete imposter and liar the weight of his crappy and immoral life choices have placed the character in his current situation.  At no point has he complained about his road to success am I wrong?  SJ worried look when Yuri went in to chat with the matchmaker about what she wants in her future partner? My first thought was this seems off, what is SJ worried about that she states the obvious to all about her affair and continuing relationship with SJ or was it that this matchmaker whose job is too know everything will figure out she is not VP daughter but a forgery.  When the VP tells SJ in his office that we must Prepare WT hell does that mean prepare for what?  I enjoyed the scene with SW manning up and being the man SJ is no longer to our heroine. SJ usual dumbfounded look and subconscious stare were delicious. So without it being strategically planned unlike Yuri and her seismic text small cracks are occurring between the "cheaters" and they both know its happening.  I don't think Yuri pushed her down the stairs or is JS pregnant maybe she read the news online about her husbands affair and fell who knows with this drama.  The episode 15 preview with our heroine down makes me upset to think this will be her ending what in a coma or worse death...I really hope the writers did not turn VIP into and these are the days of your lives BS.  I believe sticking to her true nature our heroine will try to save SJ and like here friend told her see it through to the end and then let go. That last image made me so MAD until I saw SW face in the background.  So many themes in the show but the recurring are... decisions have consequences and you don't know what you have until is truly gone.  You don't need a man to save or provide happiness but respect and love yourself. Girl tribe is everything! Look forward to the ending not being a fairytale but just see below. Happy Holidays to all VEEPERS!!!

On a side note can Soompi please change bad language replace to BLEEP instead of Richard Simmons poor guy.

K-Dramas are excellent in gettin' viewers to sympathise with the villains. In this case it's Sung Jun & Yu Ri. I don't get why y'all feel Jung Sun is preggers LoL. She's been under a lot of stress, her symptoms are not uncommon. Plus she & Sung Jun haven't been intimate since the loss of their child. That said, I hope she's alright (judging by next ep. preview) she's suffered enough.

Ahahah I can see now why there were earlier theories that Sung Jun was a pimp! He's VP Ha's fixer, he cleans up his mess tsk. No wonder he's so loyal. Sang Woo's lil tidbit was unexpected LoL! His concern for his noona gives me butterflies eheheh.. Hyun Ah/Jin Ho were all kinds of cute together too.

It looks like another exposé is 'bout to go off, with the vengeful sex fiend manager(?) He's planning to out Yu Ri/Sung Jun. Jang Na Ra just keep knocking it out of the park by slaying her role with finesse. I don't know if it's a calculated decision on Sang Yoon's part to be so indifferent LoL? I mean even on interviews & variety, he comes across really..bland & meh overall.

@smhelen

Yeah agreed (nods) It's just in poor taste to use anyone's name to cover profanity. I'm only familiar with Richard Simmons as a fitness guy with his penchant for bicycle shorts.
