  1. 1. Was there an affair?

    • No, there was no affair. It was one sided on Yoo Ri's part
    • Yes, there was an ongoing affair.
    • It was a one night stand.
  2. 2. The Conspiracy Theory

    • Yoo Ri is not the real daughter but the VP's mistress.
    • Sung Joon is doing this for his own gain ( to advance his career).
    • The VP hired Yoo Ri to destroy the Sung Joon - Jung Sun.
    • This is a high-end escort service.
    • There really is no conspiracy - just a marriage breaking down.

You mean he cheated in real life?

No I meant in another show, he was the cheating husband and the mistress was the Thornbird actress. Can't remember the title.

In "I Have a Lover" (and I have no idea where I read this, If it was on this forum, I apologize for not giving credit where credit is due.) it was originally written with the FL ending up with the other attorney who saved her. There was such a bad backlash from the viewers that they rewrote it to have the FL/ML reconcile. Didn't we hate the ML in the beginning? I sure did, but I ended up rootin' for him. Just sayin'...

But it will take a mighty intervention for me to change my view of SJ. This is a first-time writer so I'm hoping she/he will dare to go where others haven't gone. I had this tiny little wish that one of the consorts from Yanxi Palace would show up as a member of the VIP team & deal with YR (say, Consort Gao). I apologize - my vicious streak rears its head when I'm stressed.

It was One Warm Word and although they didn't sleep together, they had an emotional affair.  It was Ji Jin Hee, Han Hye Jin, Lee Sang Woo and Kim Ji Soo.  Lee Sang Woo was married to Han Hye Jin and cheated on her.  Later Han Hye Jin ended up having an affair with Ji Jin Hee who was married to Kim Ji Soo.  It was a good drama and had a happy ending for all of them.  Han Hye Jin also played in The Thorn Birds and that was a great drama also.

Thank you. I could not remember any part of the title. The wife found out early in show about them, can't remember how. She was quite clever when she got the man and the mistress to meet in front of her and friends. JS did it at lunch.

I wonder if JS thought she could get her husband back with the VP's help by making the revelation, instead of just posting it on you tube :naughty:

OMG there's a poll now? :D Thanks @triplem

Maybe add a question?

Do you think that JS and SJ can save their marriage?

a) Oh yeah, I think it would be great if they ended up together in the end

b) No, YR and SJ will end up together. They deserve each other.

c) No, wouldn't it be cool if the VP and SJ ended up together.... in a prison cell?

d) No, I hope SJ breaks a honey jar, gets a swarm of bees in his pants and stumbles into a bear den

Another questionnaire for us lucky Soompiers, @partyon? Me likey...(pardon the creepy gif/meme below )

giphy.gif

Normally, I'd like to see option C play out, since, based on what both this drama and the VP's wife have insinuated, it looks as though VP and SJ have undertook rather underhanded tactics (i.e., embezzlement) that may bring backlash to the company's reputation if they're brought to light (preferably by JS, SW the Foreign Minister's son, HA, MN, and perhaps the Chairwoman if she proves herself trustworthy, unlike her brother/VP). However, several K-dramas tend to either "redeem" these characters or drive them to insanity without truly suffering the consequences of their (horrific) misdeeds toward their victims during and/or after their prison time...even in over-the-top makjangs including Last Empress/Empress' Dignity and Liar Game (I'm only familiar with the Korean version, not the original Japanese manga/drama). Given how the VP and SJ (and YR) are unjustly punishing JS with SJ's affair(?) at work, neither character deserve such K-drama cop-out "redemption" or "insanity" ending; they must be severely punished by JS, the VIP team, and the company in public with both eyes opened.

So, I'll take option D...for $0 and 12 (going on 16) precious hours I've spent plodding through the slow pacing and excessive red herrings that, so far, appears to be "obscuring" a rather disappointing, typical adultery/mistress storyline that does not even involve any VIP clients (that we know of...yet...).

@Takingthehighroad I've watched I Have a Lover when it was airing, and unfortunately, unlike you, I dropped it when it flashforwarded from the prosecutor rescuing the amnesia-ridden FL to them working together while the ML, having spent the early episodes being "engrossed" with his "mistress" who happens to be one of his orphaned GTA (graduate teaching assistant), suddenly acted as though he never had an affair with said "mistress". BTW, thanks for clarifying about the whole script change involving the FL and ML; I was wondering why the scriptwriter/director decided to shoot later scenes of the ML never having feelings for the "mistress" and wanting to reunite with the amnesiac FL who was not yet disillusioned with the loss of their baby and the increasingly corrupt aspects of her work as a lawyer. I was so put off by that whiplash change because it looked as though the ML would rather take advantage of the FL's amnesiac condition and start over from the memory of their first interaction in college (I think? It's been 4 years since I've watched that drama.) instead of helping her regain her memory so that they'd come to terms with the harsh reality of their baby loss, the negative aspect of the FL's previous work affecting both their marriage and other clients' lives, and the ML's comeuppance for forsaking FL with an affair. Plus, with the whole FL's-birth-secret/long-lost twin sister and the ML's brother-in-law ordering a hit on the twin sister for being a whistleblower at his company (which led to the FL's amnesia upon accidental encounter with her twin sister and the brother-in-law's hitman's mistaking which twin, mind you), I n'oped out of that drama. It was as though the FL and her twin sister have been attacked by all of the ML's family (more specifically, the ML's father) ever since their birth (which led to their separation and unawareness of each other's existence); I didn't want either sister to get involved with the ML or any of his family members ever again. :triumph::unamused:

Back to the VIP drama, regardless of the VP's agenda or YR's (unstable or pretend) feelings, SJ can only blame himself, not JS or even YR, for choosing to get personally attached to YR instead of assuming a professional distance from YR and waiting alongside with JS until she resolved herself to start moving forward from their loss of their baby. I don't even know if a mighty intervention/redemption arc for SJ will suffice during the last four episodes; frankly, that arc should have started (not vaguely, but affirmatively on SJ's part) at Ep. 5 when JS told SJ that she will forgive him and move past the affair as long as he comes clean about the affair and reassure her that it's over (code: NOT covertly removing the CCTV footage of that fateful night or driving to his "mistress'"/colleague/VP's "daughter"'s place instead of meeting JS as promised).

I'm not familiar with the Yanxi Palace drama, so, if you want, please clue me in (not entirely, but enough to get the picture of) on how vicious one of the consorts would be in dealing with YR (and SJ and the VP), compared to Shin Sungrok's portrayal of the unhinged Kang Doyoung (Liar Game) and/or Emperor Lee Hyuk (Last Empress/Empress' Dignity). I share your similar violent streak to (give JS the honor to) bash SJ, YR, and the VP "Hulk-Smash" style...(see spoiler gif)...

Have y’all seen LSY in “Whisper”? He was an attorney who took it upon himself to bring down a corrupt firm. The difference between the two shows is that he was not married and he had some redeemable qualities. At the end, he is handcuffed and taken to jail.

After all the twists and turns this show has made, I hope a similar ending is in the works.I hope it’s not the dreaded huge dump truck hitting his car as he sits at a red light.:tears:

@NAB Whisper was a good drama.

Yes it was. I rewatched the kissing scene. I think the kissing scene in “Whisper” was better than the kisses between SJ and JS. And LSY was so much more handsome in “Whisper”. I think it’s because he plays such a tormented person in “VIP”.

@KDramaLogic The gifs...and I so wanted to bake a cake. After seeing them, I'm ready to "rumble" (got that term from East Side Story, before your time, I'm sure). And the Hulk - that goes way back w/Bill Bixby. I have great long-term memory....I just have a tad bit of problems remembering what I said/did a few minutes ago. I have to admit I have wanted to "burst out of my clothes" & karate a few people (SJ & YR). Unfortunately, the victim(s) passed away before I could get in my first chop. Either the sight of me naked (with muscles) scared them to death or they were in bad health anyway.

I can only recommend The Legend of Yanxi Palace, that is if you're into historical Chinese dramas. It's one of the highest rated internationally-known dramas. Short summary follows: FL sister died at hands of a royal. She enters the palace as a maid (?) to seek justice/revenge. I have never seen a more courageous, witty FL in all my years of watching K/Chinese/Thai/Turkish/Russian/Spanish/French dramas. The Emperor confronts her over & over about her behavior. No matter how anyone tries to corner her - she's too smart. The consorts all hate her (she's beautiful, smart, brave, & always beats them at their game). Historically, Consort Gao was known to be cruel (the cruelest female consort ever in Chinese history. I won't say more, other than to recommend it.

2 days until more angst. I want to hurry it up but then I'm afraid of what's to come. I mean, come on it's a merry time of year. I don't want this drama to end on a sorry note. That's why I'm writing my ending scenario...I want it to end the way I want to end.

Yes!  That look she gave herself in the mirror was menacing and foreshadowing what's to come with her character perhaps.  When moments before she was cowering like a little kid in front of her stepmom.

talking abt Daniel Tifone, this character was written as a natural good observer person, perfectionist too. He has a gift of observer that he can said plant also follow fibonaci sequence,  i remember when Daniel said that yuri eyes remembering him of Black Sapphire which beautiful but somehow make trouble too. As good observer he observed SJ and JS in signing contract he must catched JS suspicious stared to SJ and he must also saw JS wearing wed ring and connected it with SJ wedding ring, and his expression after that, showed he know that both SJ and JS facing trouble in their married. If he was a pro he can connect yuri, SJ and JS.

i do hope lee ki chan will comeback on the show as daniel, like Arin did, she appeared in 1st episode and made appearance again in episode 11. it is no matter if his appearance just as short as arin, but at least we know what he thought at that time when SJ asked how did you know. my level of curiousity is up because lee ki chan smirk LoL

Perhaps the West Side Story musical and 1961 film, I believe, may be before my time, but I remember watching the film with my parents when I was in elementary school (back then, I was into classical music, including Leonard Bernstein, who composed the music for the musical version). So, don't worry, I (think I) got the "Rumble" reference!!

Don't know when I'll be able to fit in C-dramas in my schedule of "real life" and K-dramas, but I'll try to check out The Legend of Yanxi Palace. Thanks for the short summary and recommendation, @Takingthehighroad! And, I'm assuming this is the classy, smart, and brave FL, Wei Yingluo/Consort Ling, you were referring to:

As for the "failed" attempt on the Hulk's part in giving SJ, YR and the VP the smackdown they deserve:

  1. First, gotta respect the classics and original (RIP, Bill Baxby).
  2. Death by the sight of shirtless Hulk before the real action/comeuppance...-_- In your defense, though, hot shirtless scenes are bound to cause "death", if not love (lust), at first sight (not just in K-dramas). Guess the Hulk took it to the next level before the SMASH!! :w00t:
  3. SJ and YR dying from bad health, you say? It better be attributed to SJ's (and maybe YR's ) guilt eating at him, not SJ and YR in the middle of...you know...:angry: Ugh!

Oh well. Anyhow, hope that we, the Soompiers and viewers (and JS and her VIP team) keep our wits and brace for the storm during the last four episodes. Fighting!

Sharp observation, @NAB and @Maureen Mckay. YR's doe-eyed, "woe is me" facade is slowly but surely cracking, even in those blink-and-you miss moments like that last confrontation in the bathroom when YR was supposedly "cowering in fear" but subtly rearing her ugly head as the VP's wife turned her back and left...

She stood him up when the VP called her to lunch with 'her family'. Not even a msg to cancel. I think I am seeing another picture - SJ being ditched, no woman, no job. YR and VP got into trouble swindling and embezzling the company, go straight to jail. Three at one blow. I can really grow to like that.

Officially VIP and Kdramas have made us delusional. First of all episode 2- 45.28 minutes in Yuri is a call girl not even a mistress.  The scene shows her looking at her closet full of expensive items in her dump of a roof top flat. She later appears at the same hotel we have all scene in an LBD lace to add, red lipstick to meet none other than the VP who opens the door. So hell NO! she is not his daughter. Yes SJ knows everything and still loves her. The man ran up 6 flights of stairs and sighs when she leaves.  Fortunately for them trash meets trash.  In the episode when our heroine JS calls them out at lunch about the affair, she says he is DIRTY! That was probably the only time I have ever seen SJ character actually react to the truth! He thinks she does not know what we already know, not debatable a richard simmons bag who the VP uses to handle his dirty work instead of his secretary.  I predict the following the  VP will try to cut out his wife who will in turn have to protect herself and reveal to JS the truth.  The VP all he wants his the CEO position his father is chairman but his sister being named instead signals distrust and this desperation will lead to mistakes.  If Daniel finds out the bribed his girlfriend when he comes to sign the contract he will take the jewelry contract away and as per VP they need the contract in order to survive.  SJ well he is just lost what happens when those who bond over lies and once the truth is revealed? Remember when JS mom was in hospital and she states that her one bad decision haunted her and she was punished forever...bumbumbum.  This is exactly the ending for SJ.

Our heroine JS will not ever want him back its not a matter of forgiveness but rather he's DIRTY!!! I agree a rotten apple must be eliminated SJ words not mine.

Look forward to their mutual destruction Yuri, SJ and VP. Happy watching y' alll.

I wouldn't pay much attention to those 'teasers' before eps 8. The writer was throwing a lot of so-called clues so that we would watch it to figure out the real mistress. She has been presented to the Chairman as the VP's daughter. Trash meets trash, that is true although many are still holding out about SJ.

I would like to share with everyone, the hint is ‘set everyone’ free :o) we only live once?  Whatever past mistakes by JS’s mum, since she has come to her senses (regret), it would be a blessing for JS to forgive her. Which I respect what JS’s dad is doing.

“VIP” Teases Blossoming Romance Between Lee Chung Ah And Jung Joon Won

“VIP” Teases Blossoming Romance Between Lee Chung Ah And Jung Joon Won

Dec 15, 2019
by E. Cha

Love may be in the air on SBS’s “VIP”!

As the drama heightens on the popular Monday-Tuesday series, there may also be a sweet new workplace relationship developing between Lee Hyun Ah (played by Lee Chung Ah) and Cha Jin Ho (played by Jung Joon Won).

Spoiler

On the previous episode of “VIP,” Lee Hyun Ah bravely decided to come forward and reveal that she and many of her female co-workers had been sexually assaulted or harassed by their workplace superior Director Bae (played by Jang Hyuk Jin).

After learning that Lee Hyun Ah had barely managed to escape a violent sexual assault by Director Bae, a distraught Cha Jin Ho sought her out at the office. He then apologized sincerely for having continued to pursue her romantically despite repeated rejections and for having taken her rejections lightly. Visibly moved by his heartfelt apology, Lee Hyun Ah appeared to see him in a new light as she thanked him for his words.

On December 14, “VIP” hinted at a blossoming romance between the two co-workers by releasing stills of them shyly holding hands. The newly released photos capture Lee Hyun Ah and Cha Jin Ho leaving the office hand in hand, with Cha Jin Ho unable to hide a giddy smile as they walk somewhere together.

Lee-Chung-Ah-Jung-Joon-Won-2.jpgLee-Chung-Ah.jpgJung-Joon-Won.jpgLee-Chung-Ah-Jung-Joon-Won-3.jpg

The producers of “VIP” commented, “Even in an extremely crowded filming location, Lee Chung Ah and Jung Joon Won showed exceptional focus and flawless chemistry throughout filming.”

They went on to tease, “Will Lee Hyun Ah, who said she’s not interested in betting on low odds, and Cha Jin Ho, who couldn’t have been more straightforward in his romantic pursuit, be able to surpass a friendly relationship between co-workers and hit the jackpot? To find out, please keep an eye on the unpredictable changes in the two characters’ relationship.”

The next episode of “VIP” will air on December 16 at 10 p.m. KST. By Soompi
