His father, who was convicted 17 times, was in prison when he was born. Upon the birth of his son, he made a resolution to become a new man. However, a leopard cannot change its spots, and he goes in and out of prison incessantly. There were times when Ije was ashamed of his criminal father and hearing-impaired mother, but he never hid them. Three years ago, he tried to save a pregnant woman with a disability who was in a car accident. But because of Lee Jaehwan, the son of the chairman of the hospital, he was wrongfully accused of medical malpractice and gets ousted from the hospital. He even got his license suspended without being able to properly treat the patient. Ije realizes that Lee Jaehwan is just one guy in the corrupt system, and he is not the ultimate target of revenge. Na Ije makes his bid for victory by applying for chief medical officer position in prison, where he plans to make personal connections with all the big shots in prison, including business tycoons, ex-president, celebrities and sports stars.

1552872152_2.png  Han Sogeum (cast. Kwon Nara)

Han Sogeum is a psychiatrist with a warm heart. She works at Taegang Hospital and volunteers in prison. Growing up, her father's company went bankrupt and her parents got divorced. Despite having to look after her incompetent mother and her brother with anxiety disorder, she was always full of lively and cheerful energy. But everything changed when her little brother Han Bit disappeared in prison without leaving any traces. She volunteers in prison to trace her brother's whereabouts, but the secret is hushed up by the chief medical officer, and the truth is always behind bars. Then, Na Ije applies for the chief medical officer position and reaches out to her to form an alliance. She decides to fight at his side in his lonely battle.

1552872166_3.png  Seon Minsik (cast. Kim Byoung Cheol)

He is the outgoing chief medical officer of a prison and a doctor with an elitist mindset. While all of his cousins and brothers have become university professors, he is an exception in his family. His skills could not match his pride, and he always lagged behind his colleagues. Once as an intern, he put a patient in a vegetative state by mistake. Thanks to his father who pulled some strings for him, his license was not suspended. After the incident, he started working as a public health doctor at a prison, where he realizes that prison is the most lucrative spot in the country due to the fact that a diagnosis and a note from the chief medical officer are required in order for politicians and economic offenders to be granted stay of execution or medical treatment outside of the prison. Therefore, after completing three years as a public health doctor, he applies for the unpopular position of a chief medical officer. While everybody laughed at his failure as a doctor, he became the pioneer in the blue ocean. Using the connections with former presidents and millionaires, he builds his own kingdom inside the prison. Then one day, Na Ije to be his successor. This guy smells different, as he doesn't seem to be going for money nor success, which makes Minsik afraid. To protect his kingdom, Seon Minsik vows to destroy Na Ije with his family and life at stake.

1552872181_4.jpg  Lee Jaejun (Cast. Choi Wonyoung)

He is the executive director of Taegang Group, a giant conglomerate. He is the first son of the president of the group and half-brother of Lee Jaehwan. His mother became an alcoholic because of his father's womanizing. Ever since his mother committed suicide and his father's second wife, Mo Ira, and her children Lee Jaehwan and Lee Jaein took over the household, he has been honing the sword of revenge. While Jaehwan loses his father's faith by running into trouble all the time, Jaejun builds his father's trust by working up from the bottom. When Jaehwan is arrested and sentenced for 3 years, he makes a move to secure his position as the successor. To prevent Jaehwan from being granted a stay of execution, he sends Na Ije as the chief medical officer of the prison. He never knew how that would backfire on him.

Namgoong Min, Hello Venus’s Nara, And More Gather For First Script Reading Of New Medical Drama

by Y. Shin
ef2d978e1dfb4d609efd2c65d5de3e6b.jpeg?s=

SBS’s upcoming medical drama “Doctor Prisoner” has revealed photos and details from its first script reading.

“Doctor Prisoner” is a medical suspense drama about a brilliant surgeon who is driven out of his job at a large hospital and ends up becoming the medical director of a prison. Namgoong Min will take on the leading role of Dr. Nah Yi Jae, who aims to rid society of its evil individuals.

The first script reading was held in January at the KBS building in Seoul. Along with the director and writer, actors Namgoong Min, Hello Venus’s Nara, Kim Byung Chul, Choi Won Young, Lee Da In, Park Eun Suk, Lee Min Young, and Lee Joon Hyuk were present.

doctor-prisoner.jpg

Although it is his first medical drama, Nam Goongmin had the air of a veteran doctor who has already overcome the chaos of emergency rooms several times. He also depicted the image of an angel turning into a devil.

Hello Venus’s Nara, who is also taking on the challenge of acting as a doctor for the first time, raised the atmosphere of the set with her deeply emotional performance that portrayed the complex mind of the psychiatrist Han So Geum.

Kim Byung Chul, who will face off against Namgoong Min, turned into the “King of Prison” Sun Min Sik, a medical director at a prison. The unavoidable conflict between Nam Goongmin and Kim Byung Chul is expected to raise tensions.

Choi Won Young, who plays the role of Lee Jae Joon, the primary successor to major conglomerate Taekang Group, also added to the drama with his acting that differed from other chaebol characters. Park Eun Suk will play Lee Jae Hwan, the stepbrother of Lee Jae Joon, and Lee Da In will take on the role of Lee Jae In, the youngest daughter of the Taekang family.

Cast of KBS’s Doctor Prisoner comes together for first script reading

by tipsymocha

doctorprisoner-scriptreading.jpg

Now, this is a cast I can get excited for. KBS is busy preparing for upcoming prison-medical drama Doctor Prisoner, and the production team behind the show has just released pictures of the cast at their first script reading back in January. Namgoong Min (Handsome Guy and Jung-eum) has characteristically chosen to genre-jump once again from leading rom-com hero to a darker role in a suspense thriller.

Namgoong Min will play a talented surgeon who was once a rising star at a large hospital, who somehow ends up at the medical unit of a prison. His character arc sounds rather dark, and reports call him an “angel” who turns into the “devil,” which is pretty in line with the equally dark description of the show’s plot: Doctor Prisoner will be about those who use medical knowledge and genius intellect to eliminate the cancerous elements of society.

Although Namgoong Min by himself is a draw on its own, I’m doubly excited to see the latest It ajusshis Kim Byung-chul and Choi Won-young reunite in a show so soon after their JTBC mega-hit SKY Castle. Kim Byung-chul will play a formidable opponent to Namgoong Min, at least at the beginning of the show, as the head of the prison’s medical unit. Choi Won-young, on the other hand, plays a second-generation chaebol who is the most likely candidate to inherit the top position of his family’s conglomerate. I’m not sure how he figures into the main story that takes place in the prison, but I’m looking forward to finding out.
