There was something that bothered me since the president was shot and sent to the hospital.. as if the comfort of the president wasnt their priority, i literally open my eyes bigger when i saw the doctor move the president on his side, bullet wound and all...

Since he has recovered, shouldnt a doctor check up on him regulary? Just saw ep13, and we saw that he need to keep pressing his side, as he was in pain... haiz...

Cha and Jeong, ok seriously u guys need to move to have that coffee soon.... its already ep14 tonight,  get that drinks already! Cant wait to see the President teased them about their relationship :)

Anyone want to take a stab at what the primary goal is for the terror cell?  All I have worked out is what they are AGAINST (no peace with North Korea) but not much seems to be revealed about what their actual cause is?  If they want a new Korea, what is it they really want to see?  We sort of know what Oh wants to see and his leadership style but he seems to be at odds with the VIP so his personal views doesn’t seem to be aligning with the VIP’s?  I am trying to work out what their (VIP) primary driver is.  Advisor Han’s conversation with Cha in the corridors.  He spits out rather hatefully that the people don’t “deserve” a good President.  Instead they have chosen a man like Oh who wields power as he pleases.  What is his (Han) motive in letting the country implode like that?   It’s as if he is saying, “well I really don’t care anymore. This country has chosen to kill itself by choosing a dictator like Oh.  So be it.”  Is he so bitter about the whole nation that this is his way of personal vengeance (on a large scale?)?  So it’s not so much about building a new (or better) country at all, it’s about sending the country to it’s “death”.  Just thinking out loud.

Yes, the last episode underlined how different the expectations from the conspirators are. The general Eun had no problem to betray the VIP by siding with OYS, the moment he realized the VIP's plan. In my opinion, he only realized it, after the interrogation by the security guard. He was not the one who leaked the file. Remember that before he didn't know that OYS had been chosen by the VIP as designated survivor.

And from my point of view, this is the reason why the terrorists will fail in the end. The VIP has no idea that OYS is a potential dictator therefore he can not be treated like a puppet. OYS sought in the presidential seat the ultimate power so that he can no longer receive any order. They are not really united, their only common point was their hatred for Yang's policy and especially for the Treaty with NK.

I have also the impression that Han is not the VIP, rather an accomplice who was so disappointed by Korean citizens that he thought, they no longer need any support and help.

Strangely, I have been thinking about the superior of the reporter Woo as VIP. He doesn't care about policies and people, he just wants news. In his position, he is connected to many people from the industry, the prosecution, the police, the Blue House, to politicians... Over the years, he could have gained power. Sure, he doesn't look like someone rich and powerful but this could be a ploy in order to mislead people. Furthermore, he always acts as mentor in front of Woo and we know that the VIP is close to the tailor Kim, a young man. Kim perceives the VIP as mentor as well. Okay, I am not entirely convinced with this idea but who knows?!

While watching the episode 14 RAW, I had the impression that the tailor is in reality the VIP because of the tears and resent, when he was standing next to Tae Ik (the naturalized Japanese ex-boxer).

Exactly my thoughts. He indeed is the VIP. But who is the mole in BH? Secretary Han? I didn't see this coming. Totally unexpected.

Ok let me try. First of all we have to look at the mastermind meaning the VIP. I don't think Han is the VIP. Someone said in the drama (can't remember who, have to rewatch ep13) that the VIP is a very rich and powerful person. A peace treaty with NK means the US will have a limited presence in SK. These rich and powerful conglomerates may loose billions in arms deals with the US. Things like creating a new Korea is just a farce and OYS may soon realize he is just a tool.

I believe Han still mourns for Yang. President Yang worked so hard to realize the peace treaty but people just don't care. They choose to believe what they want. As an eg. the Discrimination Act is for basic equal rights not just sexual orientation but the opposition is manipulating the truth to discredit PMJ. Han must be tired and have lost faith in the masses. Could it be that Han is protecting PMJ in some way?

So who is the mole in the BH? The issue of why Gen Lee security clearance was revoked was not dealt with or did it. Will someone care to enlightened me on that one.

p.s. Gen Eun had knew the contents of the confidential file but did not have accesses to it. Who then leaked it, it comes back to the mole then.

agree and @nrllee i think if we just look back via history the underlying message is about power and control. i think they are really trying to lean towards a much more right / totalitarian gov. it makes sense given what's happening in the world rn. it's just nuts that it was this huge terrorist attack and it's sad. but i guess the world is dealing with this rn on smaller scales (all the gun attacks in the US.) it's saddening, the actual story of PMJ is so farfetched but the content is all things that can and have happened. it just seems so ridiculous, why would someone in 2019 kill 200+ people in a bombing.

super happy about that trending in sk! even with all the bad things, people are caring. the show also reflects that. i think what's so compelling is just how accurate this show is in feelings and sentiment. i wonder if the original is this way. i should probs try it since i'm american and it will be way easier to understand.

kang han na is SO COOL. ugh i love her.

and is it just me seeing this totally wrong, being blinded by han and heo joon ho but i still have no inkling to think he's part of VIP. i do think hes angry tho.........IDK WE SHALL SEE. gonan start ep 14

omg this is silly so sorry but in american english 'tabling' in government means literally putting it aside, while literally everywhere else it means the opposite of that (introducing.) i was so worried about what PMJ would do (i should have known) so i was reading comments and when i saw @triplem say they tabled it i was SO SAD. then i was like "wait a minute...that doesn't sound like him..." lmao language and dialects...

starting ep 14 and can i just say...han mo's family is so cute. i loved that kid. what a clever idiot LOL. and it was really hard to like them in the beginning (the team) but now i feel like they've carved out their own sanctuary to save the world~ together. they're just too cute. ugh i am really going to miss the show! can't believe we only have one more week...

Wow Madam Yun is an amazing woman! That anti discriminatory bill was really close to her heart. I guess she don't want her son and son-in-law to come home. But I'm not sure about the photo with the Kim tailor in the preview!

I love Agent HNG! I'll say this for now and let everyone comment after subs. I've watched it with subs now.Tonight it came faster.

I think I'll watch the last two episodes live.

Spoiler

I've found a way to do it!

Tailor Kim knew exactly what kind of man OYS was as he reminded OYS that Benito Mussolini, Hitler and Hugo Chavez all had a tragic ending. Furthermore he explained that all of them were placed by VIPs but once elected by the citizens, they escaped the control from the VIPs.

However, what Tailor Kim is saying is actually nonsense, when it comes to Adolf Hitler. This is not so simple as he represents it.

Spoiler

Adolf Hitler was never elected as president, he was just nominated as Chancellor by the president Hindenburg (encouraged by his advisors) and while the Vice-Chancellor Von Papen with the other members from the government thought, they could control Hitler as his party represented the minority in the government, Hitler didn't get the absolute majority of the voters in March 1933. Back then, the socialists and communists were arrested and prosecuted, propaganda was full in power, yet Hitler still had to rely on other parties to rule for a while. Just after the elections, he  proposed a new law and asked the deputies from the Reichstag (National Assembly) for their support. This law called "Enabling Act" is really important as it gave Hitler the executive and the legislative power together. From that moment, the National assembly became obsolete. For that law, he needed to get more than 2/3 of the votes. Fact is that the SPD (the socialists) was the only party to reject this. This outlines that opposition was still possible, the other party like the Zentrum (Center) gave in, although the assemblymen from the Center could have opposed to it. In other words, citizens were not the ones who gave Hitler the full power, it is quite different: intrigues, ambitious men, assemblymen aso.

Anyway, after watching this, it became clear to me that OYS was never supposed to become elected (due to the words about Hitler). He just used him as puppet and in my opinion, he has another goal in mind. I sense deep hatred for the citizens, he criticized them for being so relaxed... so I am wondering if the ultimate goal is to destroy SK as such, hurt the Korean citizens and here I see a connection with Han. I am wondering if Han has been his mentor, confident or even he is the VIP.

That is my impression too.  That Han no longer cares.  It’s like he has set a self destruct bomb on the whole of Korea and he is just watching it implode.  Hence my question as to what the intentions are for the terror cell.  If Han is not the VIP and just one of the minions then the VIP would just be using his (and OYS) dissatisfaction with the current state of affairs to serve his bigger purpose.  If on the other hand, Han is the VIP and his goal is for Korea to collapse and implode, then putting a despot like OYS in the driver’s seat would be the perfect way to send the country spiraling into turmoil and chaos.

I've just been quietly lurking for fear I might unnecessarily spoil the suspense by comparing with the American version. Anyways, am glad the K-version has slightly veered away from the original series in many aspects.  Sec. Cha's US counterpart actually resigned, so am happy to see him stay in the Blue House. Agent Han Mo's counterpart and son both perished in the western version, but still much alive over the East.  Minister Oh's ending is not as pathetic as what happened to his counterpart.  I definitely prefer this K-version over the American progenitor.   The series is almost over, yet it's still very exciting.  I hope the great reveal on who the VIP is will not disappoint.

This drama will be how many episodes? Because if it’s only 16 I think the ending will be a rush or we might get an open end. (Eg the VIP will nvr be known)

According to Netflix and TvN 16.

Was too tired to watch anything last night but I

just saw this .  So at the end he was killed by his own comrade .

I Guess this is the end of LJH’s scenes huh ... sigh he only appeared 12 eps in all considering he came in eps 3. While I can’t root for his character, my fan girl Heart is a little sorry to see him go since I did start this drama for him . Bye oppa

I read rumours of S2 being a possibility.

i just read the recaps here

https://www.thereviewgeek.com/designatedsurvivor-60days-s1e14review/

Since I won’t have time to watch till later , can someone enlighten  me about the actual context to why Park delayed the tabling of the bill ? Is it because he felt  it would be too rushed or that he felt it was going to affect his chances of being elected?

I haven’t watched but if I have guessed right, it’s got to do with his sense of justice and fairness and objectivity.  Remember he’s not the people’s nominated choice of President.  He’s just a stand in due to the circumstances.  For him to rush the Bill through a cabinet (which is also not normal - bipartisan), would be him taking advantage of this very unusual set of circumstance to push a controversial Bill through.  To a person with a moral code like his, this wouldn’t be kosher.  So it’s got nothing to do with the polls or his personal desire to get the Bill through, it’s got to do with the process.  For PMJ, the process (means) is just as important as the end.  To take advantage of his non-political-ness as Yun suggested, or the pressure from the Director as the impetus for rushing it through (with the greater chance of it being passed due to the current unrealistic circumstances) wouldn’t sit well on his conscience.  Scientists follow processes.  With the belief that the processes are there to ensure objectivity.  So that’s why I feel he decided to delay it till he was elected.  He wanted to pass it with all the facts and proper circumstances surrounding it.  Not because of some anomaly in the system which has lucked him with the opportunity to do so with less opposition.  Also, the “for” votes have heavily weighed in in the last episode.  With Yun and the Director and even Press Secretary.  He hasn’t heard the “against” votes apart from the reasoning about polls (not on the ground level anyway).  In the eyes of a Scientist, that’s not being objective to just hear one side of the argument.  I could be wrong but that’s my gut feel.

EDIT - also, as a Scientist he would know that if you don’t follow process, even if you got the Bill through, it would stand on very shaky ground.  It’s a hollow victory.  Without the processes adhered to it wouldn’t be iron clad.  The next ruling Party could overturn it on the basis that the normal processes weren’t followed in the first place.

What to say about Episode 13... I suppose there are things I liked and things that made me go meh...

Maybe it's a result of becoming older and more cynical but I really struggle with the show's propensity of trying to make PMJ a Cinderfella politician wannabe president. It's cringey especially when there are real existential threats looming large. It's a weakness of the writing I think to want its cake and eat it too. On the other hand, OYS may be a baddie but at least he knows what's at stake. Maybe he's been properly coached and groomed but at least he understands that it isn't just about politics.

What I liked... CYJ's attempts to groom PMJ into the presidential candidate was somewhat humorous and nobody (as I've said previously) does befuddled like JJH. In that regard, they have cast well. ;)The awkwardness was funny too when PMJ was confronted by the missus. I'm sure the team will transform PMJ into a proper retail politician soon enough. :D

The other thing I liked is how the show demonstrates that there's no nuance at all in the same sex couples debate. It is a polarizing issue undoubtedly and the common is to take one side or the other when there's really a spectrum of views. People are demonized for not holding to the prevailing wisdom (whatever that might mean in a given society) and people are demonized for holding to traditional ideas.

The other interesting thing is that all the focus on the anti-discrimination act is focused on that one issue when it covers a whole gamut of bandwagon issues dealing in identity politics. I'm not a fan of the UN which IMO is a hotbed of vested interests so I'm not especially concerned about what they advise countries to do. Suffice to say that I find anti-discrimination legislation dubious despite all the claims to the contrary and the good intentions. It's often been used to stifle free speech and used as a political weapon by radical elements to force people into a particular way of thinking despite the facts. Which is just as totalitarian as OYS and Co. are trying to do.

Is Sec. Han's inner totalitarian finally coming to the fore? I don't know. I've heard people whining about democracy before but it didn't mean that they wanted to abolish it and/or kill people for it. I can't blame Sec. Han entirely for expressing cynicism and resentment about the fickleness of the voting public because it is a reality that politicians have to grapple with in a democracy. But often the fickleness of the public can be a corrective to extremes on the political spectrum as I've observed in recent years. I'm not as critical about democracy as I used to be because I've seen how radical elements of politics in my country get mitigated because people don't like how radicals have hijack the public sphere. The voting public are the ones that bear the brunt of bad government policies particularly the ones who can least afford them.

However, I think the biggest issue of late is the fixation with polls. As a result politicians are just making things up as they go, compounding perception about the lack of authenticity. Moreover, in the last few years we've seen how polling have just been absolutely garbage for predictive value because people aren't telling the truth about how they're voting because they've been shamed into thinking that what they think isn't "progressive" or acceptable in public discourse.

Okay... I should get off my soapbox now... :P

But yeah... Press Sec Kim... has terrible timing... CYJ was about to make his big confession to JSJ and he tumbles into the room asking about the polls. Also in front of members of the press corp he blabs on about the anti-discrimination legislation.

I'm glad that Jae-min was found. Smart kid... but risky move. At least there's some progress in the investigation about the conspirators.

Tbh, OYS was meant to be killed as he and VIP had different ideology. He is just a pawn in this game.

The driver could be under instruction to finish him off when situation is getting out of hand.

I been waiting to see how the Korean version killed him off ever since the plot was different as compared to American version.

The events that unfolded in episode 14 were totally unexpected. We still don't know who is the mole from the BH. He/She is the person who informed OYS about Sec Cha being investigated. As of now I will still say it is Han. I was little disappointed by ep 13, the way they showed that they hacked the military head's mobile and I was thinking wouldn't he know that? He is the head of an Army, doesn't he have that much sense? But it got solved in this episode. So, everyone had their own plan of taking over the nation. I feel that for Tailor Kim it doesn't matter whether it is OYS or anyone, he just wants the nation to suffer and grieve, may be he faced the same and he could not forget what he suffered. He has a deep resentment towards which aligns with Han's. So, I wont be surprised if Han turns out to be the VIP. Again when PMJ deferred the discrimination bill for the next administration, Han had a sly smile. Was it because PMJ finally understood how to do politics or he got his assurance that in politics no one can remain a good person, everyone has to compromise with their principles or beliefs. OYS's end was near but I didn't expect it to be this way. The scene where PMJ realized that the shoes has become comfortable now was amazing. He found himself in the late President's position. Han Mo is really an excellent agent. Now next week we will find out whether general Lee is gonna support the Coup or not. Waiting for next week is painful now.

@triplem I think I overestimated PMJ in my blurb above about his reasons for not putting forward the Anti-discrimination Bill.  I just watched and from the looks of it, he just let the opportunity pass because he listened to Cha.   Because they played the scene where Yang reneged on the FTA deal to salvage his ratings after.  Yang said he would leave it to the next administration to work it out and just say yes to the US deal, seeming to mirror PMJ in passing the buck.  So maybe he is becoming a true politician after all.  Although I would say for me, my arguments about why it shouldn’t be rushed through still stands regardless

As @40somethingahjumma rightly pointed out, the issues are more far reaching than just sexuality.  The rights and freedoms of one always impinges upon that of another.  Take the post with the Anti Japanese sentiment where the business owner refuses to serve Japanese people at his restaurant.  On the surface it would seem totally racist.  Yet if you legislate that he can no longer do that, you restrict his rights to run a business his way.  He’s not saying, “kill all Japanese people”, he’s merely saying this is my business and I want to serve people I am comfortable serving.  The same with Churches who say they will only marry heterosexual couples?  Are they being discriminatory?  It’s not like people HAVE to get married in a church?  Or Japanese people HAVE to eat at that man’s restaurant just to prove a point?  Sexuality is not the only issue.  It shouldn’t just be rushed through because it’s opportune just for one marginalised part of society.  The other voices haven’t been heard or given a chance to speak?  It was sort of sprung on PMJ by circumstance?  So in a way I am glad they didn’t gloss over the deeper issues and just push it through and just left it at that.

And I agree about fixation with polls.  It isn’t as accurate anymore.  There are a vast number of people who just stay silent about their views and vote totally contrary to what the polls predict.  And now that OYS is pretty much out of the race, PMJ would be up against Yun and Mayor Kang.  That is if he can somehow avert a bloodbath with the military coup looming... this was kinda left field actually, I am not sure I like it.
