Hi, I am new here. 

 

Am I the only one who feel like ep 13 is anti climatic. It's like they bring the water to a boil and then just dumped a bucket of ice cubes into it. 

 

One more thing, anybody here knows what is Han Jonggu's status. They talked about him several times in Ep 13. If they keep him alive then there must be a reason for it. I pity him in an odd, twisted kinda way.

Ep.13 ~ Part 2 (end) be warned, it's very long.

The prosecutor Lee entered  his office and was updated by his staff about DH. He asked where DH is and who is the victim. Staff replied that other than her having dual nationality, police would not disclose any other information and won't be able to respond to them for the moment. He then got called to his boss' office - Yang, the sunbae of prosecutor Noh. He asked him to investigate DH's case. Interestingly, Lee asked what kind of result do you want? Yang explained that he was responsible for CPS's case and he thinks that there is a connection between these two cases. Please investigate thoroughly and only report to me.

 

CPS in his room, recalling the time he was stabbed. He thought that this is not a case of threatening, what's going on outside? So he asked the officer in the room to make a call. The officer made a call but no one answered. CPS looked worried.

 

Oh went to visit the other old guy (mayor), updating him that Jenny is found dead and the one who got arrested at the scene was CDH. He recognized the name as CPS's son, wondered why he would do that. Do you know anything about it?.... Oh said no, but at least an obstacle is now removed and we can concentrate on the press release from government. Old guy told him that recently Oh's company is under scrutiny now. Oh asked him to help with the prosecutor office. He said it's difficult nowadays to do so. Oh begged him but he was still reluctant, so Oh told him that we're in the same boat. He was not happy and asked him to leave, then looked at a document on his desk.

 

Ki is eating with CDH in interrogation room. CDH can't taste the food and asked when he can get his phone back. Ki said it's evidence, not so soon. and asked why DH wanted to reveal his case to the media. DH said he wanted whoever did this to think that their plan has succeeded. Ki got a call on his phone, it's from YR. CDH still refused to talk to her. So Ki went out to meet with YR and Jin, he shared openly with them what's going on. Jin reminded him that things will be different if the case is taken by the prosecution office. Ki said he won't let that happen.

 

Head Prosecutor Yang meeting with the lawyer that was usually helping Oh. He got up to greet him but was surprised to see Park entering behind him. Park asked what's with his expression, is he not supposed to be there? He was congratulated on being elected, but Park just said what's there to congratulate, it's what's meant to be.

 

CPS thinking on his bed. He got up and asked for another favor from the officer. He just handed CPS a newspaper with CDH as the headline and left the room without a word. CPS shocked.

 

Yang is being asked to get rid of the suspect since it is already clear he got caught with the gun and victim is dead. Yang said that the case is still being investigated by the police. Park said that's why you need to bind their hands, don't let them do what they're not supposed to do. The lawyer said let the prosecution take over and close the case asap. Yang was quiet and flashback to years ago, similar setting, Park asking them why they haven't arrested CPS, although that time, that lawyer was the one who said the police is still investigating. Park at that time pointed out that he was holding the gun and he confessed, what's there to investigate? He got angry and lifted his glass about to hurl to them, yelling for them to quickly get it done. Back to present, Park said that Yang position isn't a position he can fill forever. Yang was quiet. Park assumed he understood the request and said let's order the best wine here and drink then. Yang excused himself though and got up to leave. He was called back and lawyer as well as Park said some threatening stuff about how one should be consistent in the past and present, also mentioned about bribes he's taken in the past. Yang just bowed to them and leave. Park glared his way and about to explode.

 

Lee at the police station asking to take over DH's case to the prosecution office. Team Leader refused to saying that they have to observe the procedures since investigation is not over. Ki came out and asked what happened. Lee recognized him as the one involved in Han's case and why is he in the station, has he been reinstated. Team Leader shouted Yes, he is under me now. Lee asked mockingly oh is that why you're not handing over CDH, because you got close due to Han's case? Team Leader is angry, but Ki just calmly asked for more time since the initial stage of investigation isn't even done yet. Lee thought they're just delaying but gave them a time limit till day after tomorrow and before heading out, he threatened that next time he would head to the Chief Police instead.

Team Leader asked Ki how long are they keeping DH? Ki: as long as he wants.

Ki went inside to update DH that prosecution came for him, just like they did in his father's case. DH asked who came. Ki: Not Yang, but Lee. They must be on the same side... DH teased Ki that this time he guarded him and not handed the suspect over like 10 years ago. Ki laughed and asked how long are you going to keep this up? Reminding him that there is time limit for how long the police can hold him in custody. DH flashback to him switching on his phone voice recorder before entering the warehouse. Back to present, DH said he had wanted to record Jenny's confession but didn't expect what actually happened. We see the flashback continuing with a guy making a call saying that the stage is set, then he made a call to 112 to report hearing a gun shot. Back to present, Ki said there was no gun shot heard in the recording, and no gunpowder residue on CDH. But also no sound of a man calling 112 (there might be a miss in translation here??). CDH asked Ki to go visit the place where his father supposedly shot Cha, thinking that if Jenny Song and Kim Sun Hee were witnesses back then, and there were only his father, Cha and Oh at that time, that means Oh's statement was false, so it is possible that there was another person present. Ki guessed it's Park, and DH said there could be someone else too. If we go again, there might be new discovery.

 

CPS in his bed, thinking "a life that I paid with such high price. This cannot be, not for DH"

 

Ki and CDH entered the restaurant, armed with photographs, they tried to imagine the scene again. CDH discovered something strange with the blood splatters, like there is another thing there. They're picturing the case together. Ki said when he entered, there is no other person and no other object next to Cha. CDH shared that Jenny told him his father shielded Kim Sun Hee from a gun shot, and he had said that's not possible, but she let him choose to believe her or not. CDH said to Ki that it doesn't seem like she was lying. Ki suggested to leave for now and think about it back in the station. They left, again not noticing the recorder above the door frame.

 

At the station, CDH kept looking at the blood splatter and was sure someone was next to Cha. Ki entered and CDH asked him to do a favor, go meet his father. Ki wondered if he will want to meet him. CDH thinks that news about him must have reached the prison and he would definitely want to meet Ki... so that's why you let the media know. CDH just smiled, saying he wants to reopen his father's case, he is collecting evidence but he needs Ki to convince his father to retract his confession.

 

Morning. Ki driving and calling to inform CDH that his father is in hospital, no other information until he reach hospital. In the hospital, the officer about to transfer CPS back to prison. CPS apologized to him, and next thing we see, he is exiting the room with the officer's clothes. He passed Ki on his way out. Ki entered to see two officers tied up and went out to go after CPS but lost him. CDH got a call with this update. Next we see news coverage about CPS escaping and put on search warrant. Some officers entered CDH office to search for CPS, making Jin and YR confused. They both hope that CPS will be fine.

 

At the restaurant, Oh arriving. Park came in, commenting not much has changed. Oh updated him that Jenny Song is dead, to which Park just said she is an arrogant person. Oh told him that his company is facing difficulties recently. Park asked him to just contact Chu for help. Oh said his attitude has changed and not the same anymore. Park looked stunned and said no, just the same to him. Oh offered half of the share he would get to Park because if there is any problem with this operation, his company would be in danger. He asked Park to talk to Chu. Park assured him that no matter what happened, he would be on Oh's side. Oh was happy and wanted to pour him tea, but Park turned his cup upside down and changed his tone asking "but why do you ask to meet me here? are you trying to use the incident to silently give me pressure?" Oh denied it, saying that he is not giving pressure, just to remind him that they're on the same boat. Park threatened him don't you dare ask me to meet in this kind of place anymore. I won't care about the business. Let me say to you once more, Cha, you're the one who killed him, no?... He got up and left. Leaving behind a stunned Oh, who flashback to him shooting Cha... They left in their respective car, but turned out that the one driving Oh is CPS. He stopped the car somewhere quiet and sat at the back to ask Oh why did he frame his son. Oh denied it, really it's not him this time. CPS said he is on death row so it won't matter whatever he would do now. Oh insisted he has nothing to do with it. CPS again demanded who. Oh said it's Park, are you going to touch a congressman?... CPS didn't care since he is on death row and no one messes with his son. Oh told him, shouldn't you go see your son first? Time is running out, you may meet him in the correctional facility, but then he might not make it there too, since he might also lose his life before that happen.

 

Park stormed into Chu's office, asking about how he is doing thing? why he suddenly changed to something German. (not sure about this) Chu calmly replied, this is something you can ask over the phone, why bother to come all the way. Park told him Jenny Song is out of the way, do you know how hard I've lobbied with the US side... Chu just assured him that he won't lose anything and his share will still be the same as before. Park said that Oh will not sit still and let it be. He left and passed the Mark Choi guy walking towards Chu's office. Mark handed him pictures of Jenny Song dead on the chair as well as unconscious CDH, then he took out an agreement document for Chu to sign. It's with the new German company.

 

Ki went to see CDH in his cell. He said he needs to go out and find his father before bigger things happen to make the reopening of the case impossible. As they are walking out, CPS walked into the station. Everyone stunned. CPS asked for a quiet place to talk. As Ki escorted them inside, Lee and his team came in with a warrant. Ki managed to scurry them in without Lee seeing, and turned around to stall Lee. But he is not taking it and tried to force himself in, just then his phone rang, it's from Yang. He answered and just left, rather unhappily. Ki went to listen in at the Choi's conversation. DH showed his father the photo with threatening message that if he doesn't confess, his father will be in danger. CPS said that's why I ask you to stop. DH: I didn't kill anyone, and you believe that. It's the same that I don't believe you kill anyone, that's why I cannot stop. I will request for the case to be reopened"... CPS: "Do you really have to do that?"... DH: "So please tell me what happened back then."... CPS "I didn't kill anyone"... DH wiping away his tears of relief: "So who asked you to take the blame?"... CPS: "I did. I wanted to take the blame"... DH: "What are you saying?"... CPS: "Before accepting suggestion by Oh, I couldn't refuse. No, I have no other choice, because I promised your mother, to save you. After saving you, to protect you."... CH: "Who killed Cha?"... CPS: "I don't know who exactly shot Cha. There were many people around. Especially there was..."... DH: "There were Park, Jenny Song, Kim Hee Sun..."... CPS: "There is one other person, I don't know who but he seems to be the one with most authority there."... DH explained that there are many people involved, and he made a promise that he will put the person responsible on trial, because although DH started with proving his father's innocence but many lives have been sacrificed. It's no longer about his father's case 10 years ago, but that person is still killing off people who are involved in this. CPS regretted for coming out so late, he then made a formal statement requesting CDH to represent him in his case.

I don't remember him being mentioned in ep.13. Anyway, I believe he will be the key witness towards the end, as he was there at the restaurant. Probably the only witness left on what actually happened back then. He might know about the hidden voice recorder.

I'm truly sorry that my schedule is rather packed first half of the week that I won't be able to do a detailed recap for ep.14 very soon. Will try to do it a couple days later. But if you want to know the gist, it's in spoiler below:

Retrial is approved by court and started for CPS. Oh was put on witness stand and still kept to his original testimony. Based on CPS testimony, the one who shot Cha was Park. He was summoned as witness but refused to appear in court. He still insists on Oh that Oh is the one who shot Cha. Oh is not happy finding out that they have turned to German for the business and he made that known to Chu.

 

During investigation, Ki found the hidden ledger by Hwang and there are lots of transaction involving SI (the foundation that Chu was heading) and also that CPS and Cha went to Germany 3 months before the incident. CDH also received an email about Black Bear sent by Jenny before she was shot. She sent it secretly when being asked to enter the address of warehouse with a gun pointing at her.

 

CDH asked his father about the real reason they went to the restaurant. CPS told him where to find the document, hidden with his mother's urn. When CDH went to get it, Mark Choi followed him there and ready to stab him as he was leaving the place. At that same time, Ki went to find Chu ~ end of episode.

I thought ep13 was very much needed, a heartwarming episode that still got the plot moving. I know people like to complain about not having time to breathe for character development, and I thought ep13 gave us that in Choi Pil Soo who to that point had very little screentime. This was an episode for father and son, and my favorite so far.

I really loved this episode for a number of reasons. First, how we were shown that CDH doesn't have everything planned, he's not a grand mastermind whose plans have plans but a more realistically smart guy who will take any situation and find a way to turn it to his advantage. Second, I found it really heartwarming how the police station became a safe place for CDH instead of a place of betrayal and mistrust. Complete with gentle nagging from Chief Ki about eating dinners, night walks outside and policemen shielding him with their own bodies from his foes. Third, a much needed interaction between CDH and CPS. Even when they were still apart, those scenes with CPS getting more and more agitated as his baby boy was revealed to be in trouble were cool and frankly unexpected (for me). I was surprised when he turned out to be a badass fighter in the previous episode and this time I was surprised again to learn he was this active and motivated - enough to knock 2 guards out, escape the hospital, find Oh, threaten him and then come to the police station to see his son. Right at the police station. Wow, that's dedication. I loved it when they subtly showed how much CPS loved and missed his son as he was looking at that one picture he could take with him and as he was going through a bunch of newspaper articles about CDH's professional wins again and again, but I also needed their interaction face to face, without a wall of stubborn silence, so what I got made me very, very happy.

Seems like they have problems with both episode. Yesterday they uploaded ep 13 without subs and today I couldn't even access to it. And for ep 14, they uploaded ep 1 instead.

Halfway watching the finale... We finally get to see what transpired that night. It's intensely crazy!  Open spoiler if you want to know.

Cha was shot by drunken Park. Chu who stepped away from the room with Jenny came rushing back, along with CPS and KHS from outside. He ordered CPS and KHS, as well as Park to leave the room. Jenny left on her own, saying don't drag her into this mess. Chu took the gun from table, shot Cha from the back where the heart is located, thus killing him, handed the gun to Oh, and asked him to shoot also, it's a dead person anyway, to indicate being on the same boat together. Oh hesitated, but shot anyway Chu asked Oh to persuade the guy outside (CPS) to take the blame, no matter how much money is needed. Oh told him CPS isn't a person motivated by money, but he suddenly thought of a way. He asked Chu to leave and will take care of the matter. All these got recorded.

And may I just add that I am utterly disappointed in Prosecutor Lee (is that his name, I forgot)... He is not fit to be a prosecutor. Not an ounce of conscience, just a puppet!! I kept hoping he would turn around when he saw the hideousness of the people trying to cover up their crime, but nooooo, he just kept on doing everything at their beck and call.

That's what happens when your desire to win overpowers all logic and reason and virtually blinds you. By the end of that trial he was like, "I will let all those mosters go if it means you won't have it your way". What a pathetic excuse for a prosecutor. I'm so happy Dohyun went and became a prosecutor now, Pros Lee probably had a stroke when he heard the news

Although he's just a very minor character, I'm a bit saddened that he didn't get any character growth because he is like a foil to Do Hyun. It's interesting how DH defended Han Jong-gu, a murderer, but his professionalism and character makes him infinitely more likable and easier to side with than someone petty and jealous like Prosecutor Lee.
