just finished all 4 episodes in one go and can't wait to watch the future episodes! i was hesitant to watch haechi at first since i'm not really a sageuk fan and eventhough i like go ara, i felt that sageuk + go ara = disaster (mainly due to hwarang). my love for jung il woo won out in the end so i decided to give it a try, and i'm glad that i did! i'm really loving what i'm seeing so far! below are some of my thoughts regarding the show and actors:

1. kwon yul! i am so so so loving kwon yul here! he's played serious and dark characters in all of the dramas that i've seen him in. this role is a complete 180 of his previous roles and he's totally nailing it! didn't know he can do comedic roles as well.

2. jung il woo is a sageuk veteran so it's no surprise that he's doing well as prince yeoning. he and the cast are showing excellent chemistry so far. still unsure how i feel about a loveline between yeoning and yeoji, he and go ara have chemistry for sure, just unsure if a romance is necessary or if it would fit in the story for that matter.

3. go ara shines in these types of roles. i am crossing my fingers that she'll be able to sustain her strong performance throughout the while drama. hoping the writers and director do not pull a hwarang on us and have her end up as a damsel in distress in future eps.

4. so many deaths in the last episode. it must be traumatizing for yeoning to lose both his younger brother and father at the same time. i wonder how many episodes will the crown prince, now king, stay before ge eventually gets killed off since he would need to die for yeoning to be king.

5. it' a bit disheartening that this is not a commercial success and is not pulling in high ratings. it deserves so much more love that what it's getting.

I don't know why there's not a lot watching this. Too few of us are on this forum talking about this drama. Any silent lurkers out there? Let your thoughts be heard, or in this case, be read as well :D.

At first, I was really confused with all the side characters here, those old geezer ministers all look the same to me...lol. It took me a while to actually familiarize myself with the Minister of Personnel, Min Jin Heon. I just need to memorize his wardrobe to remember him. Idk, they all have the same beard :D but I didn't actually have any problem with TCC being a sageuk as well. They don't have distinct features for me to remember them, perhaps^^.

Truth! Time for you to break your silence...ha ha. Glad you decided to join here. I prefer at times to be a silent lurker too, however for this drama, I just can't keep quiet^^. This definitely needs support.

Anyhow, question, guys, Prince Yeoning had two wives in the history, right? We already have Lady Seo (Queen Jeongsong). And there's Queen Jeongsun. It seems she's not part of the cast, huh. Or who could she be...or did they just leave that part out.

Yeongjo indeed had 2 Queen Consort

Lady Seo is the drama is Queen Jeongseong, of the Dalsung Seo clan. She was Queen for 33 years from 1724-1757. She died at the age 66

Queen Jeongsun was Queen from 1759 -1776, when she became Queen,  Yeongjo was already 65 years old

There is one thing that bothered me in the last episode. How can a prince YR walk in the streets alone without any bodyguard? The circumstances how YR got killed looked so unreal... He is alone and there is no one walking in the streets. Then the prince YT appears and wants to kill himself. A prince would usually give the order to an assassin... So in order to create some tension, the writer planned such a scene...

On the other hand, I liked the confrontation between DM and YJ. The latter was right to question DM's moral. He is fine as long as someone else gets hurt which proves that he is not different from the others.

Haechi0506-00106-1.jpg

In the drama Min Jin Heon will be loosely based on the historical figure Min Jin Won (민진원,閔鎭遠 1664-1736) from his character description & credentials or he could be completely fictional character from the scriptwriter penship. Noron faction & brother of Sukjong 2nd Queen, Queen Inhyeon of Yeoheung Min clan

Although Min Jin Heon is said to be Queen Inhyeon's younger brother but in history, Queen Inhyeon have 2 older brothers Min Jin Hu (민진후,閔鎭厚, 1659 -1720) & Min Jin Won

Haechi0304-00597-1.jpg

The other in this drama is the Inspector-General (Daesaheon 대사헌 大司憲) is Yi Yi Gyeom (이이겸) which Sukjong summoned him & relayed that he wants Prince Yeoninggun to succeed Crown Prince later Gyeongjong, is based on the historical figure Yi Yi Myeong who is from the Noron faction

It is said in history Sukjong supposedly had told Yi Yi Myeong (이이명,李頤命 1658 - 1722) to name Prince Yeoninggun as Gyeongjong's heir in the absence of a Court recorder to verified. In history indeed Yi Yi Myeong (he is also a distant relative, descended from Prince Mil Seong gun Yi Chim (밀성군 이침,密城君 李琛 1430-1479), son of Sejong the Great borne from Royal Noble Consort of Shinbin of Cheongju Kim clan (1406-1464), at that moment he was indeed the current Inspector-General (Daesaheon) in Saheonbu (사헌부,司憲府).

Jung Il Woo Isn’t Looking His Best As He Falls To The Ground In New Stills For “Haechi”

Jung Il Woo Isn’t Looking His Best As He Falls To The Ground In New Stills For “Haechi”

Feb 24, 2019
by J. Lim

SBS’s Monday-Tuesday drama “Haechi” is surprising viewers with new stills of Jung Il Woo looking a little worse for wear.

Spoilers

“Haechi” tells the stories of friendship and love of Prince Yeoning (Jung Il Woo), a troublesome prince who cannot become king. During his fight with Min Jin Heon (Lee Kyung Young), he loses his father Suk Jong (Kim Kap Soo), Prince Yeonryung (No Young Hak), and Han Jung Seok (Lee Pil Mo). Jung Il Woo is left speechless by the unexpected turn of events, and he ended the previous episode crying out in anguish.

The new stills were shared on February 24 and show Jung Il Woo collapsing in the streets. His face is covered in dirt, and his hair is a mess. His expensive clothes are rumpled and dirtied, making it difficult to imagine that he’s royalty. Most importantly, Jung Il Woo has a blank expression in his eye as he stares into nothing, not able to keep himself on his fee. It makes viewers curious to see if Jung Il Woo will crumble or whether he will be able to get back on his feet.

Park-Hoon1.jpg

Then, Park Hoon, playing Dal Moon, can be seen putting Jung Il Woo on his shoulder and carrying him away. Park Hoon had previously put Jung Il Woo in danger by spreading malicious words against him under orders by Lee Kyung Young, which makes one even more curious as to why he seems to be helping Jung Il Woo.

How things will unfold for Jung Il Woo will be revealed in the episode of “Haechi,” which will air on February 25 at 10 p.m. KST.Vik

We can finally see Dal Moon helping Yeoning next week. About time.

@bebebisous33 Yes, the death of YR did seem unreal, walking alone in the streets, but I guess it can't be helped since they had to kill him off..ha ha. YT's actions isn't that unusual for me, though, because remember that he usually kills himself, all of those killings were done by him. So killing YR to hurt Yeoning, he would rather do it himself.

The character chart has already confirmed about Prince Yeoning and Yeoji, right?

What do you think about the love line in this drama? Visually, Jung Ilwoo and Go Ara look good together. But the romance plot is quite complicated... Any opinion?

Giving the sickness older brother had he was alergic to shell fish also which LG brought back from China for him to try and this is supposed to be how his older brother died.. It has been said his mom had more then one son from the king.. She had like 3 or 4 boys from him plus a couple of daughters, one daughter was taken into the palace to be raised as a princess..

I too don't understand the lack of hype for this drama,

After the end of MingLan i looked for other historical dramas but didn't find any that i liked and i even watched old dramas again ^^

So i'm glad i found Haechi for now it seems really promising,

even Go Ara looks good here i like her role when i used to dislike her previous works

Min Jin Won the minister (leader of Noron) is smart and charismatic,

Park moon soo is bright and rightous

Dal moon is enigmatic but we can see he cares for his people

and the PsychoPrince despite being "stupid" his unpredictability is really dangerous that and his ambitious woman.

Concerning the last episode

the 3 sweetest characters diying is indeed too much to take:((

And i am the only one who feel even tought Min Jin Won the Noron leader has no scruples
he did 1 things for Prince Yeoning first he showed him that he needs
power to protect what he wants not only conscience as he said

I want to be tomorrow:(

It is because Gyeongjong is childless due to his sterility even though he had 2 wives/Crown Princess later Queens for decades since he ascended the throne at 34 & took no Secondary Consorts to be said

Yi Geum later Yeongjo involvement in his brother's death is rumours, no historical evidence to support as could have been spin doctors (in the drama people like Dal Moon or the story teller can spin stories in a jiffy) from the rival factions. Noron & Soron was at the height on each other necks as in the reign of Sukjong, the King was so good in getting political factions to pit against each other to increase his Royal Authority (mentioned in the drama by Min Jin Heon).

Gyeongjong was not allergic to crabs, it was his favourite. Korean have a dish Raw Crabs marinated in Soy Sauce (Ganjang Gejang, 간장게장). Gyeongjong died of food poisoning due to food handling of the dish. Consumption of Raw Food due to mishandling still occur until today

Gyeongjong had the dish in the heat of Summer...those who know about food safety. Yi Geum said to have ordered the dish but he himself didn't prepare the dish for his brother,  said to arouse his brother appetite but how the people who handle the food will be in question

Korea is a seafood galore, there is no need to get seafood from China

In the summer without ice pack transporting seafood from port to kitchen opens up to pathogens. Further Gyeongjong also had dried persimmons, usually use as a sugar substitute, it is common to have Penicillium cyclopium contamination in dried persimmon, the other is persimmons have tannic acid if eaten in access may cause stomach ache...looks like Gyeongjong double dose of food poisoning & his ill health constitution didn't help

"It has been said his mom had more then one son from the king.. She had like 3 or 4 boys from him plus a couple of daughters, one daughter was taken into the palace to be raised as a princess.."

Someone in the forum had reply to your query

Yi Geum (born in 1694 as an infant he was known as Prince Huisu (禧壽), he was investiture with Princedom title of Prince Yeoninggun when he was 5 years old) is Choi Suk Bin's 2nd son there was a Prince Yeongsu (永壽) born in 1693 (feature in Dong Yi & expanded in the drama Daebak). There was a 3rd son born in 1698 but didn't survive infancy.

Yes, it is confirmed according to the relationship chart.

And yeah, they do have chemistry, no doubt about that. I too don't know how the romance will build up since it is quite complicated indeed for a few reasons. First of all, Yeoning is already married, even though it was for political reasons. Second, Yeoji seems oblivious when it comes to romance. Remember when Yeoning offered to escort her if she's afraid going out at night, which Yeoji just answered she's not right away? You can see Yeoning's reaction to that. I believe the very first one who might take the initiative in the relationship would be Yeoning. It's quite obvious he sees Yeoji as a woman, even from their first meeting, unlike all those other men surrounding her. I mentioned this from my previous post that it may go down like, Yeoning may offer her to be his concubine, despite her low status, and Yeoji will decline. She will rather stay the way she is and probably just protect him from behind and keep him safe during his reign. I just wanted them all to be safe even if they don't have happy ending :tears:. But I'm open if the writer will give us a happy ending, although there's a very, very rare chance. I'm interested how this all plays out actually. Thus far, we only got those simple flirtings from Yeoning towards Yeoji. It's only 4/8 episodes, so a lot may happen.

How about you? What do you think?^^

for some reason, i have a feeling that the yeoning-yeoji loveline will end up in tragedy. go ara and jung il woo have chemistry and look good together, however, given the context of the story, it is highly doubtful that their characters will have a happily ever after. it is probable that one of them will get killed (yeoji), or they will have to part ways in the end with yeoji keeping her position ad damo. during this era, it is not unlikely (and also accepted) for a king (or prince) to have multiple concubines despite being married, so i don't think that yeoning's marriage will be the major factor for the romance not to prosper. i think it would mostly be due to yeoji's social status. a damo is among the lowest of the lows in social class, they are even lower than a servant if i'm not mistaken, thus, even becoming a concubine would probably be out of yeoji's reach (even if she wanted to be one, which again, i highly doubt).
