[Drama 2019] The Fiery Priest, 열혈사제 - "WE WILL BE BACK !"

Recommended Posts

Ngaaaaa...ep 19 was so dark. Given what happened to Han last ep, it was expected for the show to go dark. But it was so dark. So so so dark. I miss the funny moments. Huhu

Honestly, I think the big bad baddie reveal was anticlimatic. But Hwang made me sad when he said he didn't feel anything, when in actuality he did feel emotions. He made a bad decision for self preservation and also to protect his men. I did not expect him to succumb to Kang. He is way tougher than that, he has a thug army. In a sense Hwang is responsible for his own men downfall, he was the one who instructed bobby to dump the body. Well, they weren't nice before too, i remember them beating up people in earlier eps.

Anyways, I have a feeling Hwang will die. It just feels that way.

@Ameera Ali Mrs Hwang, my literally laughed out loud session would be when Park answered Kim through the earpiece command. Even watching that the 3rd time I still laugh out loud... I watched it live, raw and subbed, lol...

Honey Lee, Kim Sung Kyun, And Kim Nam Gil Say Heartfelt Goodbyes To “The Fiery Priest”

Apr 20, 2019
by S. Park

With one episode left, the cast of SBS’s “The Fiery Priest” shared their thoughts on the conclusion of their drama.

Kim Nam Gil said in a statement, “More than anything, I thank viewers who gave us a lot of love. Thanks to them, we were able to successfully complete this journey. During this both long and short time, we were able to achieve good results because we worked passionately and empathized with one another. While figuring out what justice is and how to go towards the rightful path, they were rewarding moments as we worked through it in a lighthearted, fun way. I hope everyone who watched was able to feel healing with our courage and comfort until the end.”

In a video shared by the network, the actor also said, “Hello viewers of SBS’s ‘The Fiery Priest.’ This is Kim Nam Gil who portrayed Kim Hae Il in ‘The Fiery Priest.’ It’s nice to see you. It feels like yesterday when I greeted you in the first episode, and we’re already headed towards the finale. I think we filmed for about six months, and you gave us more love than I expected so thank you. All of the staff and actors were great and tried their best in their individual roles with a sense of community. Thank you to the staff and actors. Thank you for loving us for how much we worked hard and how much we tried to communicate with viewers. I think we were repaid in that way. Even after ‘The Fiery Priest’ ends, I promise that our staff and actors will see you again as we do well in our own work.” He added with a laugh, “We’ll see you through season two of ‘The Fiery Priest.’ Please be healthy and happy until then. I’ve been Kim Hae Il.”

Kim Sung Kyun commented, “Hello. It’s actor Kim Sung Kyun who played Goo Dae Young in ‘The Fiery Priest.’ The hectic time has passed and ‘The Fiery Priest’ is heading towards the end. The staff and actors who cried, laughed, and suffered together, you worked so, so hard. I think that we might all cry and hug when it ends because we got so attached to one another. Thank you. I did expect that the reactions to ‘The Fiery Priest’ would be good, but thank you to viewers who gave us even more love than we expected. It’s not the end yet, so I ask for your continuing love.”

Kim-Sang-Kyun.jpg

Honey Lee said, “Hello. It’s Park Kyung Sun from ‘The Fiery Priest.’ It’s nice to see you. The long run of six months has ended, and we’re now awaiting the broadcast of episodes 19 and 20. I feel a complicated mix of emotions. A part of me thinks, ‘I can rest now. It feels like a relief,’ and another part of me thinks, ‘Ah it’s so regretful. I now have to let Kyung Sun go. I can’t see my co-workers.’ I have mixed emotions, but I feel grateful the most. I met these good co-stars and you gave us so much love with viewership ratings over 20 percent. So even if we worked hard, it didn’t feel like we suffered at all and it gave us so much strength. Thank you viewers for supporting and loving us. Thank you.”

This sums up how I feel about Hwang:

Quote from DB recap...

"I don’t know why, but as evil as Chul-beom is and as many terrible things as he’s done, I just can’t make myself hate him. I don’t think he’s a good person and I don’t trust him at all, but there’s just something very likable about him, regardless. He’s just as bad as the Former Foursome, if not worse since he’s the one who carried out their deadly orders, but the truth is that he’s taken a lot of abuse and for that, I can’t help cheering him on when he does things like help Hae-il fight, even if it’s for his own selfish reasons and not because he’s actually a good person."

I don't hate him too. I want him to feel remorse, repent, amend his wrongdoings and get punished. Its kinda like how I felt when I was rooting for Emperor Hyuk in TLE to be a better human being. Maybe that's also why I think Hwang will die in the end. Hua3. But I want him in Season 2 (if there is any). So I hope he doesn't die.

Hwangggg!!!!

After watching with subs, Hwang is really being forced into the situation. Kang, using his position, basically threatened the people under him and the family of his people. If he doesn't listen to him, he will make sure that all will be in trouble.

We also see that while hiding away, Hwang's first concern was for his people. He asked Seok and Bobby to give them wages enough for few months ahead, then asked all of them to hide well and not get caught.

Yep! I noticed this too. For what its worth, Hwang treasures his men. And we can see it both ways. His men also treasures him. They are very loyal. Look at how Bobby willingly takes all the blame when no one asked him to. He admitted he beaten up Father Lee before dumping the body, which is not true, Father Lee died from a head wound (bobby did not know how Father Lee died). I'm pretty sure the cops know that Bobby is lying to protect Hwang, i hope they do because if they don't it means the cops are not attentive to detail. Hua3

I'm moved to tears many times even in such dark episode.

And that guest star lady ~ she is just the head of a matchmaking agency, no? Not in any high position in the government section. LOL, translation...

Anyone knows what it the place in the last scene where the face-off is happening? That place is also used in Children of Nobody. It looks like a performing theater? There is the cascading seats/stairs with a big stage in front. Unfinished theater?

Time flies indeed. I remember being so excited when the first news came out that KNG will be cast as the priest of this drama. l was even joking that it is very easy for him to take the role because of his 4-D personality (and surprisingly the staff thought so too haha) .

But I am really thankful that this drama paved way for his acting skills and passion to be recognized again. (Bad Guy has reruns too) . For now , Father Haeil is his life character. He really did a lot of effort to make his character come into life. Also what a dynamic ensemble this show has--The production team from PD to writer to casts and crew . Cheers for another season  !
