Lee Byung Hun And Ha Jung Woo Talk About Finally Getting To Work Together For Upcoming Film

Lee Byung Hun And Ha Jung Woo Talk About Finally Getting To Work Together For Upcoming Film

In a recent interview and pictorial for fashion magazine High Cut, Lee Byung Hun and Ha Jung Woo shared their thoughts on working together, their acting careers, and more!

The two actors will be starring together in the upcoming film “Ashfall” (also known as “Baekdusan”). The action movie follows what happens after a volcano on Mount Baekdu erupts, leading to pandemonium over fear of a final eruption that could wipe out both North and South Korea. A team of people set out to stop the terrible disaster from happening.

During the interview following their photo shoot, Ha Jung Woo described how “Ashfall” is different from other films that focus on the relationship between two male leads. He said, “It’s not decided whether the two lead characters have a good or bad relationship and whether they make up or not. It is interesting that the relationship between the two changes every minute depending on the situation. The relationship between Jo In Chang [Ha Jung Woo’s character] and Ri Jun Pyeong [Lee Byung Hun’s character] will be tested in a variety of situations, good and bad, guarded and unguarded.”

Lee Byung Hun went on talk about their teamwork, saying, “Ha Jung Woo and I have been talking about working together for a long time. He’s a very quick-witted actor. The overall genre of the movie is a disaster film, but it’s also chock-full of the fun that stems from the two characters’ chemistry. After ‘The Good, the Bad, the Weird,’ ‘Ashfall’ is my second popcorn flick. It revolves around serious subject matter, but it’s approachable and fun to watch.”

Lee Byung Hun also explained why he was drawn to “Ashfall.” He said, “There is actually a limit to how many times an actor can make a ‘new’ and refreshing impression [on audiences]. After all, how many different genres and types of characters can we take on? On the other hand, I always think that I want to have a new emotional experience [when acting in a project]. That was what ‘Ashfall’ did for me. I felt those kinds of feelings while filming ‘Joint Security Area,’ but I was able to discover a new kind of emotional pulse in Ri Jun Pyeong of ‘Ashfall.'”

Ha Jung Woo later brought up their co-star Ma Dong Seok, who will also appear in “Ashfall.” He commented, “We’ve already been in seven movies [together]. Actually, we spent our rookie days at the same agency. In the mid-2000s, we attended auditions together, and when we were done, we ate nearby and parted ways. We first worked together in the drama ‘H.I.T.‘ and we have good memories of thinking, ‘Finally, we get to act together.'”

Ha Jung Woo Shares His Nicknames For “Ashfall” Co-Stars Suzy, Ma Dong Seok, And More

Ha Jung Woo revealed the funny nicknames he came up with for his “Ashfall” co-stars.

On December 13, Lee Byung Hun and Ha Jung Woo appeared as guests on SBS Power FM’s “Choi Hwa Jung’s Power Time” to talk about their upcoming movie “Ashfall.”

During the radio show, one listener pointed out Ha Jung Woo is famous for coming up with good nicknames, so radio DJ Choi Hwa Jung asked if he came up with nicknames for his “Ashfall” co-stars as well.

Ha Jung Woo shared, “Suzy’s nickname is ‘President Bae.’ We have a big age difference, but she always pays first. When we hang out, she has a habit of going up alone and paying first. Ever since then, I’ve been serving her as the president.”

Then he revealed, “Ma Dong Seok hyung has a lot of nicknames, like Ma Dong Dong, Ma-vely, and more. So I just call him ‘Dong Seok noona,'” making everyone laugh at the unexpected answer. He explained, “Ma Dong Seok is delicate and sensitive. What’s even more funny is that he usually wears a mask. Anyone can tell he’s Ma Dong Seok, so it’s funny he still goes around with a mask on.”

About Jeon Hye Jin, he commented, “Jeon Hye Jin is interested in stocks, so I just call her ‘Super Ant’.” In Korea, individuals who trade in stocks are known as “ants.”

When it came to Lee Byung Hun, however, he revealed he hasn’t come up with one yet and added, “It’s too hard.”

We're entering the last lap before the nationwide release on December 19. It's really going full-mode and non-stop sharing by CJ Entertainment etc to amp up the already high expectation for ASHFALL. Despite the disaster theme, seems that there will be quite some humor and banters between leads LBH & HJW. The bromance might just make fans ship a new "charming disaster couple"
