Yoo Seung-ho Embarassed by His Graduation Picture

photo1022606.jpg

Yoo Seung-ho and Jo Bo-ah were surprised by their graduation pictures.

SBS "TV News At Night" interviewed Yoo Seung-ho and Jo Bo-ah on the 11th of December.

Yoo Seung-ho put on a uniform for the first time in 8 years. He said, "I didn't like wearing uniforms, but now I like acting in them".

About a rooftop scene he filmed he said, "The micro-dust was really bad that day. I couldn't even see the sun so the lighting team had to create sun".

Yoo Seung-ho and Jo Bo-ah's graduation pictures were released, but Yoo Seung-hocovered up his picture right away and said, "That picture is too photoshopped".

I've finally had the time to sit and watch both episodes. I don't have much to say since it is the pilot week .

 few points :

- the plot has a fast pace.  They didnt drag on KBS's return,  in one episode he made up his mind. Is it a good or bad thing ? I am iffy about fast-moving plots. I prefer dramas that slowly build up and rise the tension with each episode. The downside of a fast-moving plot, if not in the hand of a talented writer, is running out of ideas halfway and dragging on boring arcs.

-  For now I am more interested in the sweet high school romance... it is actually worthy of a  mini drama alone

- everyone has their own agenda concerning KBS's return : the mother of OSH wants to use him for the school's image, KBS wants to avenge, OSH has his own plans... As soon as he came back, he told his mother to step down from the chairman post and proposed to her to make KBS come back. Obviously there is some bad blood between them, we'll see how he will want to use KBS.

- the bullying was even occuring in KBS' high school days... but the school's atmosphere was different. The principal came up with the idea of making groups of bad and good students in order to rise the average GPA of the class. In the present days, this is all gone. The school accentuates the differences between students by discriminating them. The smartest ones get privileges while the ones who are behind get mocked at. The smartest ones are separated from the others and receive a comfortable environnement for studying that is balanced out with the pressure of keeping the GPA high and not being dropped from that elitist group. the teachers in that school are the worst I've ever seen. They are lazy, overwork SJ because she is only a temporary teacher, scold students for dropping the level of the class ,are deaf and blind when students shows suicidal signs. Some personal working there scam students and embezzle money .. we're going to see more dirt  in the upcoming episodes .

- I think there is a big misunderstanding between SSJ and KBS. The confrontation scene in the cafe between SSJ and OSH somehow revealed it when she asked to OSH when she helped him.

I am sort of wondering if she helped OSH somehow in their school days to somehow keep her position in the elite school or he helped her so she was indebted to him.  If she paid the scammer to get herself a full time position at school I wonder if she did something unscrupulous as well back in her high school days to try to keep her place there?  And that resulted in her having to side with OSH's version of the story (her hands were tied) even though she knew KBS was innocent?  That would explain why KBS felt so betrayed?  The preview seems to place her in the rooftop during their confrontation in high school days which resulted in OSH falling off the roof (or him actually jumping off himself unintentionally/intentionally like SSJ did on the bridge).  You're right about it being fast moving.  The flashbacks do give us insight into their high school days.  Also, did you notice the teacher sitting in front of SSJ seems to be the student that KBS saved from the bullies in high school?  Could be wrong, I think it is anyway.

I thought that way because the homeroom teacher went to KBS' house and expressely asked him to meet SSJ and that they should talk. OSH thinks she helped him, SSJ doesnt think so. Indeed, KBS has felt betrayed. Could the reason of her betrayal be her grandma ? She works non stop to pay the bills and expenses. She was a 17/18 y.o high schooler at that time, she didnt have enough power to fight the school. There was nothing she could do to really help KBS if we analyze the incident objectively. I think even if she didn't lie, OSH's mother would have achieved her aim in another way. She seems to be a ruthless person. Yes, it is the same person who was bullied as a student back then. His character description says he is a teacher who gets bullied by students,  just like how he was in his teens. He is the only teacher who cares about SSJ and has a good heart, besides the homeroom teacher.

My Strange Hero: Episodes 1-2

by SailorJumun

revengereturns01-00273.jpg

This… is not what I expected. The latest rom-com to hit the streets was My Strange Hero, also known as Bok-soo is Back and Revenge Returns. All titles refer to its punnily-named hero Kang Bok-soo (literally translated as “strong revenge”), the popular kid in school who grew up to seek, you guessed it, revenge. What that revenge is for, I don’t know just yet. What I do know is that this strange hero and his equally strange love interest make quite the hilarious duo.

COMMENTS

Like I said, this was not what I was expecting. The premise sounded fun and silly, but the promos looked dramatic and serious, naturally giving me mixed signals. I remember getting those same mixed signals before Angry Momaired, a 2015 drama that had a very similar plot. And even though Angry Mom was a much darker show, I’m still seeing a lot of similarities in My Strange Hero (which is such a fitting title, by the way). It is so openly ridiculous, letting these quirky characters be quirky characters and the crazy situations be crazy situations.

It didn’t take long for me to be on board because the show opened with a burst of confidence that I hadn’t seen in dramaland for a while. Yoo Seung-ho has proven to me with dramas like Imaginary Cat and I’m Not a Robot that he is more than willing to go anywhere as an actor. If he has to go to a 10 for his dramatic roles, he’ll also go to a 10 for his comedic roles. The intensity he carries can be a bit much sometimes, but he seems mighty comfortable here.

The same goes for Jo Boa. She was so expressive and hilarious in Surplus Princess, and it’s great to see that side of her again here. Soo-jung is the type of character that ain’t here to play, and that instantly makes me like her. I can definitely see why Bok-soo likes (or liked) her. After meeting all these wonderful characters, I’m excited to meet Kwak Dong-yeon’s character. I know that this is supposed to be his first major villain role, but that doesn’t mean he can’t be funny too, right? I don’t expect him to be on the same level of outrageous as everyone else, but it’d be fun to see him experiment with this role.

Seriously, though–the humor in this episode took me by such surprise that I was constantly hitting pause to walk away and laugh my head off. And it’s a shame that I can’t fully convey that humor through my recaps. It’s not even that the drama is wacky; it just feels effortlessly funny. The bit that really got me was the couple’s confrontation on the roof. I couldn’t get over the fact that Soo-jung’s swearing had Bok-soo swooning. I wasn’t sure what to think when the drama was hyped as an “awkward but warm” romance, but I totally get it now. The overall vibe of the show is hard to explain, but when you watch it, it just makes sense. High school is a weird time, especially when you’re these characters.

So, yes, I was more than pleased with this premiere, despite the more nitpicky issues I had. Those issues mainly have to do with editing, which was a bit choppy at times. (i.e. When student Young-min posted his confession, things were happening way too fast, making it hard to follow.) While I want more than anything for the show to keep its tone, I’m sure that once we get into Bok-soo’s expulsion and his eventual desire for revenge, things are going to get dark. I’m going to stay optimistic, though, because the handful of serious moments in this first episode actually worked pretty well. They flowed into the narrative without being too jarring. If the show keeps that up, then I could fall for this story as quickly as Bok-soo fell for Soo-jung.

Oh.... good! I like this. I never thought that he really returns to school as student.

Love their high school memories. It's interesting to know the reason why SSJ lied with her testimony. She's maybe two-face with her nice and hot-tampered character. But I believe she's not that heartless for ruining BS's life without any urgent reason right? If she did it only for benefiting herself then she deserves to be like she is right now.

So curious with what happened between the three. And oh.. I like the actor who plays OYM is here. I know him from YHH. The suicide attempt of OYM and SSJ is quite funny somehow. Lol.

Wow. How could YSH still look fine as high school teenager. He's not much different as I saw him as Hwang Baek Hyun in GOS. Anyway, the three leads are believable with their high school student look.

Yoo Seung Ho And Jo Bo Ah Light Up The “My Strange Hero” Set With Their Smiles Even Off-Camera

Dec 15, 2018
by C. Hong

SBS’s new Monday-Tuesday drama “My Strange Hero” has released some cheerful behind-the-scenes photos of its beautiful lead actors.

“My Strange Hero” stars Yoo Seung Ho as a man who was once expelled from his high school due to false charges of school violence. He returns to the school as a teacher to get his revenge, but ends up getting involved in another unexpected circumstance due to his first love (played by Jo Bo Ah).

Off-camera, Jo Bo Ah and Yoo Seung Ho were nothing but smiles, no matter the situation. The lead actors goof off with their co-stars, smile as they monitor their performances, and pose for the camera even when they’re not officially filming.

Some of their co-stars included Chun Ho Jin, who plays Yoo Seung Ho’s character’s mentor; Kim Mi Kyung, who plays his character’s mother; and Kim Dong Young, who plays his character’s friend of 9 years. Jo Bo Ah, meanwhile, filmed with Joel Roberts, whom she worked with previously on “Goodbye to Goodbye,” and shared a laugh with the drama’s director, Ham Jun Ho.

The production staff stated, “The cast and crew for ‘My Strange Hero’ are 100 percent immersed in filming and never lose heart even in the cold weather. They enjoy the work and raise the morale on set. That bright energy is captured on-camera as well. We hope that the viewers can sense the clumsy but warm romance between the two lead actors.”

Hi all, jumping aboard the "My Strange Hero" train because I learnt that Hwang Chi Yeul has sung an OST for this drama (release date of the song this Monday 17 December)!  Thanks to OP for starting the thread, I need to catch up on the rest of the thread. :)

I don't watch K-dramas nowadays unless HCY sings an OST for them, which explains why I followed "Ruler - Master of the Mask" until halfway when the writers lost the plot ... Yoo Seung Ho was excellent in that drama so I am glad he is the lead in  "My Strange Hero" and although I have watched very few K-dramas I like Jo Bo-ah (saw her in "All About My Mom" ) and Kwak Dong Yeon (he did great in "Moonlight Drawn By Clouds", deserves to be main lead someday soon).  '

Caught up with the first two episodes and it's a really promising start.

@cynkdf wow that's great news 'cause I loved his OST in Ruler. I guess he will sing something similar that could be the main OST of the drama, like a OST related to revenge. You're lucky, MSH thread has only 16 pages thus it will be an easy read ;).

My Strange Hero: Episodes 3-4

by SailorJumun

strangehero34-00342.jpg

Things are more serious this hour, but I’m happy to report that the added drama doesn’t completely wash out the glorious humor. Bok-soo and his first love Soo-jung have gone through a lot since their high school romance, and the aftereffects are still with them today. They’re trying their best to move forward, but it seems like certain people won’t allow it. And those certain people could include themselves.

COMMENTS

You guys, I can’t express how pumped I am for this. Now that we have a better idea of what happened, the conflict is shaping up wonderfully. We’ve got a broken romance, a (maybe) broken friendship, and three broken lives due to one fateful incident. No one truly knows what happened on the roof that day except for our three main characters, and what makes it interesting is that all three have different ideas on what went down. Or… do they? I don’t want to doubt Soo-jung right now, but there were certain moments this episode that made me question her judgement.

For one, I thought it was strange the way Soo-jung just shut Bok-soo out. She only witnessed the last few seconds of Bok-soo and Se-ho’s fight, and she still testified in favor of Se-ho’s false claims. The girl can be stubborn and presumptuous, but that seemed like much, even for her. I at least thought that she would hear Bok-soo out, or I don’t know, something. Though I understand her viewpoint–walking in on that scene wouldn’t look good to anyone–that cold look she gave him felt like the biggest betrayal. That one look was all it took for me to understand Bok-soo’s deep feelings of resentment. And it makes me wonder if Soo-jung really does know more than she’s letting on.

Se-ho isn’t the funny villain that I wanted, but I’m totally fine with that because Kwak Dong-yeon’s performance is stellar. And surprisingly chilling. (I get goosebumps every time he smiles.) We’ve been told that he was suicidal, that he then attempted suicide, only to turn around and place all of the blame on Bok-soo. For what? For a fight about Soo-jung? If that’s the case, then I don’t know how to feel. However, I don’t think it is. Because Se-ho was right–we don’t know anything about him yet. And there’s obviously so much to explore there. I’m already looking forward to joining Bok-soo and Soo-jung as they try to figure him out.

With most of the high school flashbacks revealed, I am totally rooting for Bok-soo and his “If they’re gonna mess with me, I’m gonna mess with them” attitude. Se-ho threw him under the bus, and Soo-jung pretty much drove that bus. As much as I like these characters, and as much I believe that they deserve a second chance, I also believe that Bok-soo deserves his second chance first. They owe him that. So while I know that Bok-soo is only attending for some delicious payback, I hope that he also listens to Teacher Park and uses this opportunity as a way to turn his life around. Then I hope that this act encourages Soo-jung and Se-ho to turn their lives around.

Soo-jung got out of high school with no trouble, but she’s still struggling in life. She (presumably) lost her parents, she has a grandmother in the hospital, and her career is in jeopardy. And Se-ho got out of high school and an assault scot-free, but… I’m guessing he’s still struggling too. If he wanted so badly to cover up his suicide attempt, there has to be a logical reason. Maybe not a good one, but a reason nonetheless. So with all three characters affected by this incident, it seems that the only way to fix their problems is to face the past and work from there. I just hope these folks are ready because they made a big mistake in messing with a dude whose name literally means revenge.

Sorry to cut your post. Happy to read you love his OST for Ruler. Somehow I wish the new OST (translated by a HCY fan as "Are you listening?") won't be quite so sad/emotional but rather something lighter and sweet :)

@cynkdf Oh I see, it is going to be a OST for the OTP. Remember  has a similar OST, Can you hear me. HCY has a sorrowful voice, his voice fits for sad songs. I  also liked his OST for Mr Sunshine too.

Yoo Seung Ho Bravely Fights 5-Against-1 To Defend Park Ah In On “My Strange Hero”

Dec 16, 2018
by E. Cha

SBS’s “My Strange Hero” has unveiled a sneak peek of Yoo Seung Ho’s action-packed fight scene from its upcoming episode!

“My Strange Hero” is a new romantic comedy drama that tells the story of Kang Bok Soo (played by Yoo Seung Ho), a boy who is expelled from school after being falsely accused of violence against other students. Years later, Kang Bok Soo returns to the same high school as an adult in order to avenge himself, but his plans go awry when he finds himself swept up in a new series of unexpected incidents instead.

Park Ah In plays the role of Yang Min Ji, Kang Bok Soo’s friend and co-worker who is hopelessly in love with him. Despite the fact that Yang Min Ji continually expresses her unrequited feelings for him, Kang Bok Soo is able to keep their friendship going by casually playing off her declarations of love.

On December 16, “My Strange Hero” revealed new stills of Kang Bok Soo valiantly coming to Yang Min Ji’s rescue during their high school days.

After finding Yan Min Ji in danger and surrounded by bullies, Kang Bok Soo doesn’t hesitate to defend her by jumping—literally—into the fray. In a remarkable display of agility, he rushes to protect the cornered Yang Min Ji by leaping over the bullies and landing in front of her. He then proceeds to take on five bullies at once in a fierce, dramatic fight in the rain that leaves him with a gash on his cheek

Yoo-Seung-Ho1.jpg

The intense action scene was filmed on November 13, on a college campus in Seoul, with a special-effects team brought in to create the semblance of pouring rain. The tiring and physically demanding shoot lasted for over six hours, but Yoo Seung Ho showed no signs of exhaustion as he meticulously monitored his performance until the very end.

Yoo Seung Ho also prepared for the scene by working together with a special martial arts team, rehearsing the fight choreography multiple times to ensure that things would go perfectly. In sharp contrast to the sweet, humorous side that he has displayed so far in “My Strange Hero,” the action scene gave him a chance to show off a tougher, manlier charm than one might expect to find in a romantic comedy.

The producers of “My Strange Hero” remarked, “This shoot made us realize once again just how truly amazing Yoo Seung Ho’s passion for acting is. He practiced and practiced his acting in order to create a perfect scene, and he never forgot to monitor and check [his own performance].”

They added, “Yoo Seung Ho’s efforts gave the entire staff the strength to create the perfect scene

Park-Ah-In-Yoo-Seung-Ho.jpg

To catch Yoo Seung Ho’s thrilling fight scene, tune in to the next episode of “My Strange Hero” on December 17 at 10 p.m. KST

And this is how Yang Min Ji fell for KBS and became his cute stalker. KBS came like a white knight and fought with her bullies which resulted in her admiring him. After being dropped out from high school,  she remained faithful to him and stayed by his side. I am sure she is the first one who comes forward and defends him if someone ever dares to mess with him. I hope our cute stalker will have a happy ending and find love with another man.

Last but not least.... Finally !!! The action scenes I've been waiting from YSH ! I was spot on when I stated right away this drama will have action :)

@cynkdf Oh I see, it is going to be a OST for the OTP. Remember  has a similar OST, Can you hear me. HCY has a sorrowful voice, his voice fits for sad songs. I  also liked his OST for Mr Sunshine too.

"Remember" is being aired on local TV here in Singapore (Channel U). My sis is following it avidly and is impressed by both the plot and YSH's acting (she has seen him in "The Way Home"). A few days ago I told her that YSH has a new drama but never thought I'd be watching it :)

Not much has been said about Yeon Jun Suk (Oh Young-min). He is a fine actor, I remember him from "Brilliant Legacy" where he was very convincing as the heroine's autistic brother.  IMHO  the casting director has done a brilliant job assembling not only leading actors who can act well but also a supporting cast of veterans with solid skills (Cheon Ho Jin, Kim Mi Kyung etc). Kim Yeo Jin had a brief but impressive role in "Moonlight Drawn By  Clouds" as the female lead's mother and I look forward to seeing her in a refreshingly different role as a villain :)
