Recommended Posts

I shed so many tears watching the drama.  Even when I go back and rewatch it 3000x I still cry and weep.  Many touching scene but then again just seeing WangXian in tears or if they get hurt Im already in tears.  I can rewatch this drama over and over again!

Just finish zapping through the remaining episodes and I have to say I'm satisfied with the ending. those of you who know the novel are you ok with how it ended? is it very different from the book?

I think I will rewatch this once in a while. I really liked these two and their bromance, subtle but beautiful. :heart:

Do you know why he has the wen sect scar? Do you know if it was it explained in the book?

Yeah, it was mentioned in the book.

Lan Zhan got drunk and bothered Xichen to find him a flute. When Xichen gave Lan Zhan a flute, Lan Zhan said it wasn't the one he wanted. He later broke into Cloud Recesses treasure/storage room and found the Wen sect branding irons and marked himself with it.

I believe Lan Zhan doesn't remember what he did. All he remembers is waking up with the scar on his chest.

Personally, I didn't think it was that gay of a reason, but I guess the producers didn't want to push it there.

I think that spoiler is a bit embellished. I think it's more accurate to say

Lan Zhan and Wei Ying became "cultivation partners," which can be considered the same as husband/wife...

Maybe it's just semantics. When you say "legit wife", I can't help but think a full blown wedding with red clothes, a sedan escort and family members witnessing, which did not happen in the novel.

Uhmm.. no.. author confirmed they got married.. married as husband and hsband.. given their ritual of bows.. and they live together.. and LZ had a proper conversation with LQR on their status.. and btw, LZ got married before they made out for the second time.. because in 1st time.. WX teased him about doing things without marriage

you're right. they went through too much for just leaving each other. I was particularly moved by episode 46, with all those revelations Wen Ning said to Jiang Cheng. he deserved to ear all that as he was so unfair towards WX and I loved how LZ held him and cried for him earring everything himself too. I'm eager to watch that with full subs. But as the producers ended it, we can perfectly fit in the original ending in our imagination, don't you think?

@SaltyLemonaid It was mentioned in the novel's extra story

THIS should be the real ending

Spoiler

Yes, I just considered this part the ending and ignored the rest, whitch I think is the end for chinese censors. Lan Zhan would never left WWX wandering alone for some cultivation leader spot.

Spoiler

I thought in the drama , after they parted , time passed as wwx wore different clothes and while playing his flute, LZ called his name. That to me says they ended up together .

Can those who watched the ending check my spoiler and advised whether it’s a correct interpretation?

thanks

IMO you are absolutely correct. I think they tried for an "open ending" due to censors, but I think we can safely assume that LZ decided to follow WY and they're together at the end. Right before WY played flute at the end, LZ said that he has made a decision...or something like that. So I think they want censors to think LZ stayed behind...like you said a bit of time passed, so I assume LZ needs to take care of his clan business first to pass on the leadership role....then drama showed us that last clip of LZ calling for WY. Smart move...cuz you can also argue that the "WY" at the end is his imagination but we all know that it's not and that they end up to be cultivation partners for life :D

Ya.. time passed.. and now they travel together.. basically whatever are back being friends and in touch.. people have wrapped up things at their end (e.g. LZ with gusu stuff...i guess)

Yup I saw the ending as they parted (with WWX saying "till we meet again in the future" as he waved goodbye)  Time passed and WWX (clothes not the same) was back at mountain playing his flute and so was LZ who then called his name "Wei Ying"

WWX turns around ( you can see the hope in his face as he turns) and as he sees the person who called him (obviously it is really LZ) WWX's face lights up and he gives that same sweet happy smile that he always gives LZ.

Implication they meet and are together again.

A subtle and lovely endi ❤️

My interpretation of ending above :)

I actually really, really like the ending.

Spoiler

It's extremely poetic that they, each in their own way (WY with once becoming the Lead "Demonic" Cultivator and LZ with becoming the Lead "Good" Cultivator) uphold that promise they once made.

Though it's different from the book, in the drama-verse: Once given the responsibility, I don't think LZ would simply run away with WY and I don't think WY is the type who'd like rigid hierarchies that LZ is familiar with.

IMO, the most important thing isn't "ending up together forever" but, rather, the unforgettable times they spent in each other's company and what they learn from each other.

This is the most satisfying drama I watched since Nirvana in Fire in 2015.

It’s good that the show has enough complexities and subtleties that we can find and enjoy different perspectives.

I like that WY and LZ could find their way to be together again time and again.

There is a Chinese saying:-

“There is an invisible string that connects those that are destined to meet, it may tangle and stretch, but it will never break...”

Just finished this drama and rewatching my fav scenes

Spoiler

Loved ep 36 where LZ was drunk and tried to give WWX someone’s chickens (asking him if they are fat or not) and admitting that he liked rabbits and has broken some rules

Ep 7(I think) where WWX forced LZ to drink some wine, which made him drunk. LZ is so cute when he gets drunk. WY tells him his headband is crooked and he tries to fix it. WY tells LZ to call him Wei Ge Ge and he actually does as he’s told

Ep 38 (I think) where WWX is babysitting a bunch of young disciples and they encounter the scary blind girl. WY asks them to describe what they see and only one of them described her as a pretty girl

I also found the official MV of Jiang Chen’s theme 恨别 (Goodbye filled with hatred)

Wen Ning’s theme 赤子 (Newborn)

Lan Xi Chen’s theme 不由 (Involuntary)

The Nie Family of Qing He theme 清河诀 (Separation at Qing He)

Yi City’s theme/  孤城

Xue Yang’s theme 荒城渡 (Passing by a deserted city)

Jiang Jianli and Jin ZiXuan theme 永隔 (Eternal Separation/Forever Parted)
