Plot

 

Yoo Baek is a former idol group member. He is now a popular singer and actor. He doesn't try to be a good guy to attract people. Yoo Baek is self-centered and he is brutally honest to others even if it hurts them. He makes big trouble for himself and travels to a faraway island to getaway. There, he meets warm people on the island including Oh Kang-Soon. She runs a small supermarket and also dives to pick abalone and sea mustard. She is physically a very strong woman. (Asianwiki)

Character descriptions

 

Yoo Baek (Kim Ji Suk), an idol-turned-actor, is full of narcissism and confidence, he doesn’t care much about his image or the feelings of others as he says whatever he wants to.

Oh Kang Soon (Jeon So Min)  who operates a supermarket on the island is a unique character who freely swims around to pick abalones and seaweed and easily breaks walnuts by cracking them on her head.

Choi Ma Dol (Lee Sang Yeob) is described as “the Jack Sparrow of ships and he is the youngest person to become a captain. He’s an optimistic, friendly, and fun character, but is also strong-headed and charismatic.

tvN To Launch Drama Series With A New Style, Including Stars Shin Dong Yup And Jung Sang Hoon

“Top Star Yoo Baek,” on the other hand, will be directed by PD Yoo Hak Chan. A PD who has worked more on variety shows than dramas, Yoo Hak Chan has directed shows like “The Romantic,” “Three Idiots,” “My Ear’s Candy,” and “Plus Nine Boys.”

According to a news outlet, “Top Star Yoo Baek” tells the story of popular celebrity Yoo Baek who is sent off to an isolated island after making a big mistake. The drama will center on the blooming romance between city guy Yoo Baek and country girl Kang Soon. It is reportedly set to air in November.

On Juy 11, an industry representative reported that the actors will be starring in upcoming tvN drama “Top Star Yoo Baek” (literal title).

In response to the reports, Jun So Min’s agency Entertainment IAM and Kim Ji Suk’s agency JSTARS Entertainment both commented that they are positively considering the offers.

“Top Star Yoo Baek” is about a popular celebrity who is banished to a far away island after causing major trouble.

Romance ensues when the celebrity used to a sophisticated, fast life meets Kang Soon Gwa, a country-bumpkin who enjoys the slow life. He will be joining Lee Sang Yeob, while Jun So Min is still in talks for the drama.

Kim Ji Suk will be playing the role of narcissistic top star Yoo Baek. Though he has a confident personality and outstanding good looks, he is distrustful of people because of trauma he experienced at a young age. An idol-actor, he is successful in both singing and acting, earning the nickname of “Nation’s Melo Man.”

Any news whether Jun So Min has accepted the role? I really hope she accepts. Based on the character's description, i think the writer has her in mind as it fits her so well + JSM-LSY's chemistry was crazy on RM.

Not yet. There is not an official confirmation but I think she will sign with this drama.

On September 17, the actress’s agency confirmed that she would be starring in the upcoming drama “Top Star Yoo Baek” (literal title). A representative stated, “Jun So Min will be appearing in ‘Top Star Yoo Baek’ in the role of Oh Kang Soon, the female lead.”

There’s a new tvN Friday night drama on the way this fall called Top Star Yoo Baek that’s got a classic city-slicker-meets-country-bumpkin setup, and actors Kim Ji-suk (20th Century Boy and Girl) and Jeon So-min (Cross) have signed on to play the leads. They’re great choices since the drama calls for comedic chops, which they’ve both proven in previous rom-coms.

Kim Ji-suk will headline as Yoo Baek, former idol star who turned to acting and became a household name as a national star. He’s a vain, unapologetic narcissist who gets into some major trouble, and gets exiled to a tiny backwoods island (presumably for image damage control). There, he’ll have the culture shock of his life in a place far from civilization, and meet and fall in love with country girl Jeon So-min. It’s basically Modern Farmer with less rock, but do I ever tire of seeing haughty top stars being taken down a peg or twenty? No, never.

Jeon So-min’s character is a deep-sea diver who has no interests outside of studying and diving. She’s lived such an isolated, quiet life in her small island village that she hardly even knows what a smartphone is. Kim Ji-suk’s top star is, of course, the very opposite in every way—he’s an early adapter who lives the fast life, chases trends, and distrusts others. The drama is described as a culture-clash romance in which the top star will flail and fall, grow and change, and find love.

The new “culture-clash romance” will star Kim Ji Suk as the narcissistic Yoo Baek, a former idol and A-list actor who is banished to a remote island after causing some major trouble. While struggling to adapt to his new surroundings, he eventually strikes up a romance with Oh Kang Soon (played by Jun So Min), a tough, hardworking woman who has very little in common with the worldly and sophisticated Yoo Baek.

At the drama’s first script reading, which took place on September 5, the two leads reportedly impressed those present with their lively chemistry and natural acting.
