[Part 2]

JY sits alone at the park. SE comes to see him. They both look concerned.

JY: The thing about the heart is that it doesn't do what you want it to. I lied to you. Yesterday, I was with Young-Jae.

SE: If you were a less honest person, I would be more comfortable. So right now, I hate you so much, Oppa.

At JY's restaurant, he lays out a feast for his parents, Ri-Won and HSH. Mom comments that she just cannot get used to French food, but Father says he loves it and that European food suits him, but he doesn't like wine. JY offers to buy him beer, and Father says thanks.

Father tells HSH that Ri-Won used to tease and torture JY a lot when they were young, but JY was always nice and took good care of her. That he was also a good boy with a caring personality, and has not changed.

Mom says that people do change. When JY was young, he didn't eat well, so she had to carry around his bowl and chase him around to feed him, but he is a chef now. Father says that maybe it's not because he didn't eat well, but that her food tasted bad. She laughs and says maybe that was true.

JY at the convenience store to buy beer. Sits down outside instead of going back to his restaurant.

Ri-Won stands outside of the restaurant to look at her family and smiles. She meets JY when he returns and tells him that she didn't think marriage was meaningful, but to see his parents so happy to see JY get married, she thinks that marriage can be meaningful, maybe.

She says that HSH is always begging her to get married, but she just doesn't know the answer. She thinks that it's not fair for her or to her partner to "just make up an answer." But she is grateful to JY for getting married instead of her, and offers to call him Oppa from now on, since he is now the head of a household. Goes back in.

JY stands outside watching his family have a good time, and says, "Aigoo" to himself.

His family is leaving, Father is drunk and very sentimental. Says that he is proud of JY for growing up well. Says, "I'm not just happy to see you get married. I am happy to see you make decisions and take responsibility."

Mom thanks for him for the meal, they leave. JY looks... pained.

SE is on the phone with her mom. Mom says that once they get married, SE should get a bigger place, and that they will travel to Seoul tomorrow. SE says goodbye. Looks at her new shoes.

Flashback. She saw JY rush into a cab to go see YJ after she called him. She waits for a while to call him, to say sorry and ask him if he got home safe. He said yes, and she knew it was a lie. She vo's: "My suspicions have finally caused him to lie." Hangs up the phone and breaks into tears.

Thinks about how he later confessed that he lied and that he was with Young-Jae that night.

Back at JY's restaurant. He's cleaning up.

YJ walking around by herself. Comes near her building and sees Joon-Young. They're sitting on a park bench together.

YJ: I couldn't live... I couldn't continue to live... so I ran away and came here. Some days, it's vivid, and some days, it feels so remote that I can barely remember when.

Flashback to the scenes of Sori's accident and funeral.

One day, Ho-Chul returns home and sees empty liquor bottle. He runs out looking for YJ. Runs to the cemetery where Sori is buried, and sees YJ sitting by her grave.

YJ: This is my fault, isn't it? Our Sori... this is my fault.

HC: Don't think like that. (hugs her)

YJ is home lying in bed. HC feels her head and says she still has a fever. Tries to feed her and give her medicine. She coughs and won't eat. She says that she feels appalled that she would eat and take medicine and try to live, when Sori isn't even there.

HC says that it's not her fault and that everything will be all right.

Back to present. YJ tells JY that as time passed, she got even worse.

Past. YJ drinking and fighting with HC to give the liquor back to her. As they fight, YJ drops the photo of the three of them and the frame breaks. HC finally gets angry and yells at her, "So why didn't you just buy her a cat?"

He apologizes. Tries to say that he didn't mean that. They both sit on the floor, apart. HC dozes off, but wakes up to find YJ gone. Knocks on the bathroom door. Calls out to her, no answer, but sound of running water. Door is locked. Gets a key to unlock the door.

Hospital. YJ has bandages on her wrist.

YJ: I'm sorry. Seeing your face out here, I am so sorry to you. (he says it's okay) But in that home, in our home, there is no place to hide. On the sofa, on the dining table, in the bathroom, and even your face, even in your eyes, Sori is there. (she cries) Ho-Chul, let's get divorced.

Back in the present.

YJ: I know it's useless to look back. But I still think about it, dozens of times every day. And I wonder when this will end. And of course, it must not end. But I'm all right now. Truthfully, I'm not completely all right, because thoughts of it continue to appear suddenly and it makes me crazy, but I won't run away from it anymore.

Joon-Young, you don't have to worry about me. I have Soo-Jae and Joo-Ran, and I just have to live thinking about the people who care about me.

I hope that you are well. I'm being sincere.

YJ gets up to leave. JY sits completely silent. Thinks back to the times of seeing YJ recently.

Gets up. Keeps thinking about YJ. Begins to run after her.

At the lobby of her building. He takes her wrist. Tears in his eyes.

YJ: I am receiving too much comfort from you. I don't have the right. (tears stream down her face)

They both stand there and cry.

YJ: You must leave now.

JY lets go of her wrist.

--------

Preview:

YJ: I've known you for 12 years, and I never knew you were sensitive to the cold.

JY: That's because we've never spent a winter together.

YJ: I didn't know everything, but said that we were too different and didn't fit.

Soo-Jae tells Joo-Ran that he will wait for her, so do a good job getting surgery.

Se-Eun: Because I love and trust you Oppa.

JY: Se-Eun...

Watched with subs. All I can say is what a mess:(. YJ is trying to move on slowly with her life while JY's marriage is going down the hill due to his feelings. And from the preview, it seems like he made a choice that will leave SE brokenhearted.

Poor HC tried his best to console YJ while keeping his grief to himself because he had to be the bigger person for both of them. But due to one sentence he said sent his wife to commit suicide. And that hospital scene, even though what YJ said made sense, still hearing that got to hurt:tears:. Now I believe it wasn't a coincidence that they ended up at JY restaurant. All I can say is he tried his best this time for real and he should not have regrets like he did on his first marriage.

Poor SE, she is the old version of JY and history told us this will end badly. I felt sad when she said her suspicious were what caused JY to lie to her. Relationships don't work like that. Hope she has the courage to break up with JY herself because she knows herself that this is the end.

@tali58 @KSHCJW Thank you for your replies to my comment, I enjoyed reading and understanding your points of view and that's what makes this forum thread so satisfying. In real life my friends don't watch Kdrama so this has been my safe and happy place to discuss and read everyone's opinions, it's also the relaxing time of my day to interact with all of you.

I watched ep 15 with subs after suppressing my urge to watch it RAW, once again it was silent cry-fest for me when I was seeing YJ's point of view. I can so relate how she would rewatch her happy videos of her kid. I am very fulfilled and happy with my daily life and my work, but sometimes I will watch certain Kdramas that reminded me of my past with tears rolling down my face too. It's like, a quiet time with my memories and 'What-If' thinking, 'can't fight  off the phantom of nostalgia' as @jeijei described it so well. I definitely need to work on battling nostalgia, and this drama made me realize that.

By watching YJ as an audience, I also re-discovered the importance of self-care. After 1-2 years of watching Kdrama I found myself really happy when watching silly rom-coms but feeling quite emotionless during daily life. I googled a lot and read more about 'self-care', then creating a list of things I can do to take care of myself: cleaning my nails, putting on sheet mask, making breakfast for myself, exfoliating. After doing this Level 1 basic self-care, which I reminded myself each week to do it, I found that I felt better as time went by and automatically started to improve on the routine. It got to the point that I started reading about nutrition, how to best lose weight, be healthier, manage my body and skin, etc. I feel more in control of my body, mind and thoughts.

I'm not sure if anyone here is feeling 'in a slump'. Maybe not depressed, but just kind of drifting around in daily routine and not feeling happy. I suggest to you to research on self-care and work on how to Take Care of Yourself.

I'm really looking forward to ep 16. Though most people's feedback is that this "Third Charm" is more depressing than the other 2 charms, isn't it so 'healing' to watch each character: Joo Ran, Soo Jae, Young Jae and Joon Young? They went through down periods and in their own way, learnt and grew from it. Though it took time, they opened up and communicated with each other their sincere feelings and deep thoughts.   T.T

The bromance and sisterhood in this show is so satisfying and I loved it. Now that we have 1 episode to go, I will cherish the last ep of this drama and look forward to reading everyone's thoughts again about the last ep and whole drama :)

P.S. Just an aside about the title 'The Third Charm', I was reading the translation of other languages and a literal translation is: "The third type of magical feeling"? Are there native Koreans reading this thread? It will be great if you can literally translate the Korean title, as 'The Third Charm' in English to me is like 'The third time they feel charmed' which doesn't really fit this realistic 30s life of theirs.

[The Third Charm] Ep 15 spoilers, Seo Kang Joon x Esom

Article: Naver 'The Third Charm' Seo Kang Joon's heart wavers for Esom right before his marriage meeting between families

1. [+1013,-30]
The female lead is a burdensome character. The male lead was made into a fool. ㅠㅠ
- [+67,-2]
If a boyfriend's heart wavers for his first love before getting married, it's better not to get married with him.

2. [+760,-24]
She broke up with her first love and marries another guy not long after. She lives a happy life with that man without thinking of her first love at all. It's not like her husband killed the child, but the child died, and they divorced. And if she goes back to her first love and laments, ending the story with her dating him happily, this story would be makjang. This is already a makjang, because policewoman Min was hurt. But if the male lead breaks up with her, this would be totally a mess.. What is her third charm...? Anyone knows?? The female lead was totally made into a selfish woman.. I was looking forward to a bright drama like how it was advertised, with On Joon Young's back hug. What's this?

3. [+620,-38]
Next time, I won't watch whatever Park Hee Kwon and Park Eun Young write.

4. [+347,-27]
That's right, Joon Young-ah. Just do whatever you want. I didn't even get annoyed today^^ Just live and eat well with Young Jae, for a long time.

5. [+218,-8]
I'm most curious about how it will end tomorrow, really..

6. [+156,-2]
When the day of marriage meeting between 2 families is nearing, imagine if your partner did this to you. ㅋㅋㅋㅋ Who's more pitiful now?

7. [+156,-8]
ㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋ This is still the first time seeing that both leads are trash. The scriptwriter's abilities are amazing.

8. [+119,-0]
Episode 15 proves that Young Jae didn't think of Joon Young for the past 5 years. Young Jae's happiest times were spending her days with her child and Ho Cheol.

9. [+114,-4]
A drama which Kang Joon's face did everything.

10. [+111,-3]
I thought this was a bright drama at first, but this gets worse as it goes.

Article: Naver 'The Third Charm' Seo Kang Joon shocked seeing signs of Esom's self-harm

1. [+47,-9]
The story couldn't go up to the mountains [t/n: going up in the mountains can mean the story is in a mess or is going nowhere], so it went to the universe... Policewoman Min should really take a gun and kill them both.

2. [+21,-2]
Seriously, I'm annoyed not being able to connect the storylines.. It's not like Joon Young couldn't forget her. And what has he got to do with her getting married and lamenting about losing her child...? This is just frustrating..

3. [+18,-5]
My chests get more stuffy the more I watch this. This sucks the energy out of me. Makes me think why they are living life like that. This is so pathetic that I started to dislike watching it and turned the channel. It made me tired.

4. [+9,-1]
This reminded me of my love that lasted 7 years.. It's ridiculous.. But when he let go of her hand, I felt it. And my heart ached.

5. [+7,-0]
Because of Seo Kang Joon's handsome face, his awfully handsome face, I endured this from the first episode till now. I'll watch it till the end and beat up the scriptwriter tomorrow. Damn.

6. [+9,-3]
Se Eun-ah, break up with Joon Young and walk the flowery path. I cursed at Young Jae at first, but Joon Young is hopeless too, really.

7. [+5,-0]
It's not like she divorced because she couldn't forget Joon Young.. She made a family with the man Joon Young hated and had a child with him, she divorced only because she was hit by misfortune and came back to Korea.. Why exactly is On Joon Young's heart wavering on its own..? It's not like Young Jae's heart wavered for him. She's a woman who didn't even think about you for the past 5 years, what are you doing on your own, Joon Youngㅡㅡ?

8. [+5,-0]
But even if Joon Young and Se Eun get married, they won't be happy too. Being suspicious of him once, she'll continue to be suspicious of him.

This drama has became way too miserable to me, they did every single negative cliche, pretty disappointed they went this route

You are correct. It has become a sort of misery porn. Let's see, SJ lost his legs, JR gets cancer, and YJ lost her child. That's a lot of heartache for this family. (And yes, JR is pretty much a family member.) They have no one but each other, and wow. That's just a lot of sadness for one small family. Geez.

Speaking of pain - Well, it's pretty obvious that the JY-SE marriage is doomed. They both look like they're in so much pain. This is not a good time for either of them. I do not see them making it down the aisle together.

JY's eyes are bloodshot throughout the entire episode. He is quite good at the "on the verge of tears" look. But wow, he just looks so sad.

Whenever they show that photo (right before the preview) of Young-Jae sweetly back-hugging Joon-Young - it looks jarring and like a scene from another show. The memories of them kissing and being cute together feel like a lifetime ago. Both to the characters and to us.

As I said before, sometimes it's hard for a couple to stay together after the death of a child, because every time you look at your spouse, you are reminded of the tragedy, and this is why the marriage fell apart. Poor Ho-Chul.

I don't know where this ends. I said before that this show is about human-to-human love, not necessarily romantic love.

For example, it was really sweet to see Soo-Jae step up and be there for Joo-Ran. There is an element of romance there, but it is eclipsed by just... kindness and compassion. It's beautiful to see someone who is willing to be there for another in her time of need. He is being a mountain for her. It was just sweet and heartwarming.

And I thought that that was where YJ and JY would end, emotion-wise. She is devastated. He finally finds out why she is so devastated. He reaches out as a warm caring human as she is drowning.

But when he held her wrist... there was this ... heat.

These two were... are... really HOT together. Like, seriously romantic and passionate.

When she said, "You better go now." It was, "You better go now or we are about to go upstairs and maul each other."

So... I'm confused.

Why did they break up again? Because they did. And she went and married that other guy. And he's engaged to that other girl.

I don't hate her for it. I don't blame her. I just... why, again?

How are they going to fix this in one episode?

How are they going to fix this in one episode?

YJ broke up with him because she thought they were incompatible. While loving him, she knew the both of them were not happy (at that time). Wanting to find a way out, she decided to break up with him. This was "A Wrong Decision" that led to all the richard simmons that happened after.

However, "A Wrong Decision" happens in everyone's life, because she believed that was her best choice at that time. Maybe it was inexperience, stupidity, etc. No one knows why but this happens in real life all the time.

After breaking up, YJ and JY decided not to look back. After all, they tried to make it work 2 times and it just didn't.

So, they decided, each on their own, let me progress with my life and move on from this person I loved and this 'never once did it seem to work' relationship.

Thinking it will lead to a happier time, YJ accepted SE even if he didn't feel so much feelings for her.

Making do with her options, JY married a man who loved her more than she loved him, and had a child. After all, didn't everyone say that you will be more happy if your partner loved you more than you loved them?

I'm also thinking "WHY", as the audience we can see that these 2 people are so right for each other, and even WANT each other so much. I felt the "heat" that you described in the scene and I felt the "I'm resigned to my feelings for you" emotions of the both of them.

I think that's why everyone is so looking forward to ep 16, to see how these 2 scriptwriters are going to end it.

The backlash on Korean social media is so funny though. Everyone is bashing the plot but loving the actors. It's my first time to feel so conflicted and lost for a drama. Actually, I love the scriptwriters so much for making me feel this way. Is this "Audience Self-Harm"? Hahaha

This knetizen perfectly summarizes my thoughts. I was really anticipating for this to be less dark than it was advertised. I also don’t like the turn of the events where YJ is miserable now that she lost her child but live a life so happy she never once spared a thought for JY so if her kid were still alive, she wouldn’t even want to be with him. Whereas JY had been on a whole sabbatical and self discovery while in sadness during the time she was happily married, and now seeing her he wavers but has had nothing circumstantial happen to him where if it had no happened he would be with SE except for meeting YG herself.

Honestly had JY not treated SE like he did this last epeisode after how she has pursued him and given so much (which was her choice so yes doing those things doesn’t mean one should expect to be returned or unwavering devotion from the person they are pursuing) but if you wanted leads that are relatable or at least not acting like trash, then don’t have one breaking an innocent girl’s heart and another settling with their ex because of past grievances.

My sentiments exactly!! This is what makes the third charm so absurd, at least if there were character development then it would all make sense. But honestly the situation both leads are in is toxic.

Wow, even for someone who looks hard to see the silver lining, I cannot believe how depressing this episode is.

The drama is almost the literal meaning of...

to have and to hold, from this day forward, for better for worse, for richer for poorer, in sickness and health, to love and cherish...

Maybe that is the third charm. The person who still wants to be at your side when you are unwanted, weakest, and lost.  That person’s strength and willingness to carry both of you through the valleys is the charm that makes him the one.  Joon Young and Soo Jae.

Actually,  Ha Cheul still loved her and wanted to stay with her. She didn't want to stay with him because he reminded her of their child. Instead of taking comfort with that, and with him, she just wanted to erase them.

The nicest and most loyal person worthy of love in this drama turned out to be the doctor, Ha Cheul. (And I'm not just saying this because I'm a big Min Woo Hyuk fan, or because he's really hot.) Seriously, Ha Cheul suffered and grieved alone, never being any solace from YJ, but was there for YJ no matter what.

I have to say, I am satisfied with the ending.  It would be a little strange for them to jump back straight into a relationship after so many failed attempts before.  It is more realistic for them to be cautious and moving with trepidation than to be embracing each other (although I really miss those romantic, heart fluttering moments and of course the kisses).  It is only right the writer didn't give us a convenient time jump to make them a couple who suddenly live happily ever after.  That'd would have given us a whiplash after many episodes of misery.  You can see from their smiles that they are genuinely happy and contented, uri OTP.  That's good enough for me.  Fantastic performance by all the cast.  Thank you all especially @bedifferent, @tali58, @chickfactor for your insightful comments on this thread.  It has been thought provoking.
