Everybody loves’Busted!’s’ Park Min-Young

 

 

SINGAPORE—In the first season of “Busted!,” Netflix’s unscripted mystery variety show, the detectives needed to retrieve a clue from a chest. But there’s a problem—there was a snake sitting on top of it.

The other detectives shouted and backed away in fear but not Park Min-Young. The actress was not fazed. She nonchalantly rolled up her sleeves and reached for the snake while her co-stars watched.

 

“Look at her.”

“She’s crazy.”

“She’s touching it.”

 

“I didn’t know I was not afraid of snakes, I just knew we had to solve the mystery. I surprised myself, too,” Min-Young said at Netflix’s See What’s Next: Asia 2018 event at Marina Bay Sands earlier this month. “When I saw myself onscreen grabbing the snake, I was like, ‘Why did I do that?’”

 

Min-Young and her costars Yoo Jae-suk, Ahn Jae-wook, Kim Jong-min, Lee Kwang-soo, Oh Se-hun and Kim Se-jeong arrive on the set of “Busted!” never knowing what to expect. “We wanted to put the talent in a situation without a script —whether they were investigating or doing something physical to figure something out,” showrunner Chang Hyukjae said.

Guest stars join the fun by creating fictional elements for the show’s storyline. “We are in close collaboration with the actors,” Hyukjae said.

 

K-drama fans have fallen for the different characters Min-Young has played in shows like “Sungkyunkwan Scandal,” “Healer” and “What’s Wrong with Secretary Kim” but in “Busted!,” they get to know the real her as she goes through challenges and tries to solve puzzles with her fellow detectives. Min-Young is brave, intelligent, has a great sense of humor and is a joy to watch—but tell her that and she’ll say this: “Sometimes I see it this way, am I the smart one or are the other members a little behind?”

 

The others do rely on her quite a bit—not just because of her courage but also for her skills in English, observation and deductive reasoning. At one point they asked her, “How did you know so many English words?”

“The oppas on the show, they’re all looking for Min-Young all the time. I think Min-Young is very down to earth, she’s very human and that’s why we all love her,” Hyukjae said.

 

In another episode, they had to touch things in blind boxes and once again, Min-Young did it with no hesitation, slipping her hand in, leading another detective to ask, “Aren’t you scared at all?”

We’ll admit it, she’s one of our favorite reasons to watch “Busted!” (Another is how the physical challenges make us laugh out loud.) We love Min-Young’s clothes on the show, too.

 

“I thought I really dressed like a detective. We may not be the best detectives in the world but we are really trying to overwhelm the counterpart with our visual nowadays. I started that. Now in Season 2, I see that everybody is looking to improve their looks and I think I started that.”

 

The clothes aren’t the only improvement to watch out for, Min-Young said. “A lot of them studied a lot. Jong-min studied Sudoku. Is that a spoiler? No, it didn’t really help that much. We like to compliment ourselves in saying that we are better and we are really good detectives now, we have grown. Solving the mystery game, the team work is really important and it has gotten better. I hope you look forward to our adventure as evolved detectives.”

Hyukjae agreed, “They’ve become smarter, they’ve become better investigators.”

 

It takes a lot of work to put together a show as unpredictable and unique as “Busted!” Hyukjae said. “We have a number of backup plans for every situation, we have three to four for each and the end is open for all the situations. They may or may not catch the culprit, they may or may not solve the crime. Everything has to be ready. That is why it takes us so long to prepare in advance.”

He added that “Busted!’s” second season “will have great mystery factors as well as great entertainment value.”

 

Actor Lee Seung-gi has joined the show as its newest detective. “Whenever we had to split off into teams, I don’t know why but I always end up with either Jong-min or Kwang-soo. I always ended up with those two. But I really didn’t have a mystery-solving partner. But now I have high hopes because Seung-gi joined the team,” Min-Young said.

He was introduced by Domino's Pizza in May, in April last year, it was still SJK and PBG tandem for Domino's and he has one year yes but some fans are just guessing because he unfollowed them so he might not be renewing but maybe too early yet for decisions like that?

That's pretty funny, assuming that Domino's doesn't want a married spokesman, considering that the brand is appealing to adults with little kids in the ads with PSJ and Naum, and they have a family- friendly image.

The two issues aren't related. We vote for them because we like them and because we like their work. It's a fan's way of saying "Well done!", "Great work!" and "Thank you for giving us such great drama/ movie,  etc.!" We aren't buying a window into their private life away from the screen with our votes. 

 

We don't even know the reason why they don't attend together. Both are super busy these days, and them not attending could easily also be a scheduling conflict. Actors don't just skip awards shows where they are receiving an award unless they have to. Like any other person, maybe even more,  they really love getting the awards and recognition. So I REALLY doubt that either PSJ and PMY skip awards shows just not to be seen together. 

 

Besides, they could easily show up separately with other companions (friends, parents, etc.) if they wanted to make the point that they aren't together,  or if they were worried about being seen together. 

 

So anyone who votes for them hoping they'll attend together is setting up for disappointment.

I think we all vote them not just because we want them to come together but we sincerely appreciate their work and because we love them. I also wish that they can attend some event together one day....but again Assuming something without knowing true reason also not good. Dont be discouraged chingu

Guys, I don't know if I should ask this here. Please don't hate me by asking this question but would you continue "shipping" actors (not characters but the actual actors themselves) for years even if there's not at least one CONCRETE evidence that they even dated? I can't help but notice other fans of PSJ and PMY ship them to their former co-stars with words like, "please stay strong in your relationship because we know you're together" even though there's not even one STRONG evidence pointing to that (similar brand of outfits and similar gestures aren't evidences IMO). Of course, we aren't sure about these two either but at least there are enough "coincidences" circulating that's keeping our hopes up. Also, I don't think tagging actors in pictures with captions like that is a good idea or arguing with fans from other ships is healthy.  Are these coincidences (similar breed of dogs with similar names, living close together, etc.) common for other Kdrama celebs who have worked together?

tbh ‘coincidences’ are not enough to simply dictate whether actors are dating or not.. they have access to the same expensive fashion items and it is not weird to be caught wearing same things. as if for living location and pet breed, it still is possible to hv coincidence.. there is no ground for shipping.. 

 

but for me, i ship pmy and psj after the dating news circulated. although they denied it immediately, usually the reporters/ insiders know things but choose to keep it mum. and there was a comment on naver that said psj and pmy are dating wayyy before wwwsk.. besides that, if u recalled mbc show about fake news, the reporter who wrote about the dating news did not consider it fake news and said we will have to wait and see as if she knows something.. 

 

as for their former costars, i dont know much so i will choose not to comment on it. but from what can i say, their chemistry is not strong enough for me to go and watch the drama over and over again, like i did with wwwsk.. and they dont act awkward with each other, or avoid being seen in awards etc.. looks like they are just friends and hv nothing to hide. so i really dont see the ground for shipping psj and pmy with their former costars.

 

however, i respect everyone’s opinion and everyone can choose to ship whoever they want.. im not judging and not gonna force my choice on them too..

I'm no different....hahahahaha. Even reading the webtoon doesnt help. It makes me wanting them even more. I wish the would do season 2 (which I doubt will be happening but still hoping though).

Hiii all dear friends here, i  wanna say something bc i really want to know your opinions as fans of ppc so lets just share our minds, what do you think that ppc avoid each other now, we all know that in tvn festival psj could attend bc he also was among top 3 in voting and im sure he has highest votings so why he is not there in festival and if its a intentional act to not be there, what do you think the reason is? Im just asking bc im corious about your ideas. Love you all and ppc.
