Voice 2

Time slot: Saturday & Sunday
Broadcaster: OCN
Genre: Crime thriller
Episode count: 16

Reasons to watch: Voice was a major hit for OCN and broke ratings records for the cable network when it aired in 2017, and was known for being an especially gritty crime drama (translation: there was a LOT of blood). While Jang Hyuk opted out of the second season, Lee Hana is back, which is more important for the core premise of the show—she’s the one who has the gift of perfect hearing, who can profile killers and crime scenes based on sounds that no one else can detect.

This season she’ll partner up with Lee Jin-wook, a “psychopath detective” who watched his partner’s gruesome murder, and turned into an unfeeling detective with a one-track mind—to find his partner’s killer and return the favor tenfold. He and Lee Hana are after the same serial killer, which causes them to butt heads and eventually team up to find him. The same writer from Season 1 is onboard, and the PD’s previous credits include other OCN thrillers Missing Noir M and both seasons of TEN, so it should be in good hands. If you can stomach the crimes, the thrills should be worth it.

The sequel to OCN’s popular thriller “Voice” is almost here, and a new highlight video for the long-awaited season premiere has us eagerly counting down the days.

The trailer starts off with our main character Do Kang Woo (Lee Jin Wook) being tied up and forced to witness the murder of his colleague on a boat. He’s then thrown overboard, as a distorted voice says, “Be thankful to me whenever you see this scar,” and hits Kang Woo on the head.

Some time later, Do Kang Woo sees a body at a crime scene and is convinced the murderer from that night has returned, and demands Kang Kwon Joo (the returning female lead from season one played by Lee Ha Na) to track the killer.

When the killer gets away, Do Kang Woo says, “You just lost that psycho, who just appeared again after three years. And now he’s going to hunt people for one month and then disappear. Because of you!”

Kang Kwon Joo also loses a colleague to the killer, and the two leads vow revenge.

However, Kang Kwon Joo and the detective are poised to butt heads, with Do Kang Woo not believing Kang Kwon Joo for a second when she says she has the ability to hear things no other human can. But Kwon Joo believes there’s only one way to solve the case and proposes that Do Kang Woo join the Golden Time team (a team assembled to respond to emergency situations within the ‘golden time,’ when survival rates are highest) to combine her acute hearing ability and his case knowledge, to take down the killer who has even the talented Do Kang Woo thrown for a loop.

“Voice 2” airs on August 11 at 10:20 p.m. KST on OCN.

Can anyone confirm the number of episodes?

I read on twitter that the drama that come next will start to air on September 29 2018, which means that Voice 2 doesn't have 16 episodes.:dissapointed_relieved: And since kdrama who shoot live usually take one week off to allow to the cast and crew to have a break, it reduces the number to 12 episodes.:tears:

Yeah the director said this will have 12 episodes

A new perspective on crime drama: After the success of the first season, ‘Voice 2’ promises more thrills
Aug 09,2018

The brief, yet crucial, period following a traumatic injury when a medical treatment can prevent a death is known in the world of medicine as the golden time. Those precious minutes drive the drama in the second season of the hit OCN series “The Voice.”

Ending with a viewership rate of 5.7 percent, the first season of the show set new records for OCN and ranked first among cable TV dramas for consecutive weeks. The first episode of the second season will air on Saturday night.

Written by Ma Jin-won, this crime thriller picks up where the previous season left off. The show tells the stories of the Golden Time Team, a special task force made up of police call center workers, crime specialists and detectives.

Although Korea has a low crime rate compared to other Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development member countries, over the past 30 years, crime in Korea has doubled, according to Statistics Korea. From 2000 to 2016, while crimes such as robbery and murder have decreased, sexual assault has increased 3.9 times and assault has increased 9.4 times.

This season, the drama will tell the story of a psychic, a priest and a detective desperately chasing after a mysterious group behind a series of crimes. Along with exorcism and shamanism, “Voice 2,” directed by Lee Seung-yeong, will feature new cases each episode. Once again, the character work with the slogan “leave for the crime scene within three minutes, arrive there in five and arrest the criminal in 10.”

Although “Voice 2” continues the main story of the previous season, it is slightly different in terms of plot and characters.

While familiar faces such as actors Lee Ha-na, who plays voice profiler Gang Gwon-ju, and Son Eun-seo, who plays foreign language communication expert Park Eun-su, have returned this season, new actors, such as Lee Jin-wook and Kim Woo-suk, have joined the cast.

Due to personal reasons, actor Jang Hyuk, who played the role of Mu Jin-hyuk, a detective with a rough yet down-to-earth personality, was unable to join this season.

Therefore, a new character, Do Gang-u, played by Lee Jin-wook, was created. He is a detective who possesses the ability to interpret a crime scene from the perspective of the killer.

“Many people thought that I would feel burdened by last season’s high ratings,” said Lee. “Instead, I feel the opposite, because I believe that this will positively influence the viewership rate for this season.”

When asked about how Do was different from Jang Hyuk’s character, Lee responded that it’s all in the characters’ personalities.

“Well, while Jang Hyuk’s character is a tough detective who has many action scenes, my character, Gang-u, is more like a sharp blade,” said Lee.

“I really liked that Gang-u examines the crime scene from the viewpoint of a criminal. Gang-u is an interesting character since he experiences inner conflict being a detective and not a criminal.”

“The screenwriter has already planned out [the script for] season three,” said director Lee at a press conference on Tuesday prior to the drama’s premiere.

“It may seem that the number of episodes has decreased for this season, but that’s not the case. Since season three will air right after season two, I [intentionally] planned it this way so that season three can pick up right where season two ends.

“What’s unique about season two is that the antagonist will be the most evil villain [that appeared on the series,]” said director Lee, hinting that the crimes committed by the antagonist are intriguing and gruesome.

“While there was just one villain in season one, this season features a force of villains.”

The drama will air at 10:20 p.m. on Saturdays and Sundays.

So i 'm confused about why the PD said :

Frankly speaking, I do not trust this translation much as I found 2 obvious errors in it which I corrected already . I am actually more baffled by this sentence "This season, the drama will tell the story of a psychic, a priest and a detective desperately chasing after a mysterious group behind a series of crimes. Along with exorcism and shamanism"

Not aware there is gonna be a priest in this drama? It seems to me that the reporter here has confused the plot with another OCN's new drama 'The Guest' which main 3 characters are a psychic, priest and a detective lol..

It's probably a case of bad copy and past and not enough rereading before publishing.-_-

But for the rest, it seems quite accurate to me. Other sources (fans) who watched the presscon have confirmed the translation on the question of season 3. It seems logical too from a production point of view. it's hard to reunite again the cast and crew once they are separated to work on new projects. It's more efficient to take advantage of everyone being motivated and available and wrap things nicely/with a bang.

I love that they're confident enough in the quality of their work to plan things so ahead but i'm worried too about the ratings, which are always uncertain even when the drama is good.

Did i say how much i adore her?

Yeah the season 3 part seems correct.

I am not too worried about the ratings though, since this is a cable drama, the range is not that big. So even if it doesnt surpass its predecessor, it won't fall too much behind either.

Oh wow, 2 minutes into the first episode and it's already more gruesome than the first season. I'm disturbed and this comes from a person that didn't find the first season scary or all that graphic. They actually opened up the season by showing some psycho film how his crazy minion chops off a cop's arm with a grass mower while he is still alive. What the actual FFF?! I am so disturbed. :scream: I'll rather watch the rest in the morning...
