[Drama 2018] Your House Helper, 당신의 하우스헬퍼

For the first time, I have to say that I am not impressed with the choice of the first female lead. I don't really connect with Bona which explains why I am more interested in the other couple: Sang A and the lawyer Kwong. Sure, I feel sorry for DY's struggles but I don't get any great chemistry between Bona and HSJ. On the other hand, I really like Mr Kim who is such a good observant. I have the impression that in his past, he didn't pay attention to his "partner" and the state of her house so that when something bad happened to her (suicide), he realized that if he had paid attention to the mess in the house, he could have saved her. Notice that he accepts offers, when people are really struggling and on the verge of "suicide". Then he must have noticed SM's uneasiness with men. He didn't approach her, but just used the light and remained behind her. Like others, I suspect that she was raped and it happened during high school. It is definitely related to her brother, although I don't think that her brother would do such a thing. I guess, due to her brother she got caught in a terrible situation.

Now, I can understand why SA is so focused on her image and her appearances. I don't think that HT, her best friend from elementary/middle school, is aware of the bankruptcy of SA's parents. It is interesting that HT describes SA as her best friend, while SA definitely doesn't feel the same way about her. I hope, SA will stop acting like she was a successful jewelry designer. I am also wondering if her former boyfriend knew about her terrible situation hence he decided to saize the opportunity to benefit from her, while SA thought, she had finally found someone reliable.

Came here to say how much I like this drama. The living arrangement reminds me of Age of Youth where each girl's story will slowly be unveiled and the girls end up helping each other. Your House Helper just seems like a perfect story about the phase of adulthood that comes after Age of Youth. If the writing is consistent, I'm sure their ratings will go up after Come and Hug Me ends next week. Wed-Thu drama timeslot is too competitive now!

Unlike the others here, surprisingly I have no problems with Bona's acting (I even cried when DY called the Life Line on the bridge) I just feel like she should've diversified her acting portfolio a little bit as second lead or in a less serious genre before taking this role. She needs the transition from her role in Girls' Generation 1979.

Questions

  • How did the three girls meet HJ? Did she also go to the same high school as them?
  • Is there gonna be a love line between DY & JW? (I hope not......)

Yes, HJ is from the same high school . During the meet up at DY’s house she was talking about their school days

hmmm well yes , based on the official site it seems that there will be a pairing between DY & JW

@Latte_Anyday @bebebisous33

I share both your sentiments about the female lead. While I can empathise with her struggles, I find it hard to see her paired up with him.

Spoiler

It’s not even an age issue for me . Cause In A Poem A Day there was a relatively wide age gap between the OTP ( mentioning this here as it is my favourite romance/ slice of life this year) the female lead could carry her own & has that charisma about her even though she was also being taken advantage of by her co workers. Here I’m feeling a disconnect with Da Young & not sensing chemistry between them

Not sure why some talking a chemistry this early none of the real stuff has even started between them.

I think she gets better with each episode to be honest.

I totally agree, QUIET GUYS,:joy: CALM GUYS :scream: for the moment the lead female DY , only wants to have a professional future and succeed in having a permanent job, to come even sick, I do not even know about she looks at JW as potential love at this moment

Just finished watching both hours.  I understand where some are coming from not seeing the chemistry between Da Young and Jin Woo, Bona's not as animated as others.  Da Young seems to lack confidence, she talks to herself a lot  Reminds of a friend who always mumbles under her breath.. not too confident, afraid to offend others, I would almost say can't take a stand and defend herself.  She's sweet, not sure how she can survive in the ad world.

Jin Woo seems low key and doesn't like attention.  I think it's cuz he left the competitive world that caused him grief so all the stuffs that Sang Ah is doing, putting up the false front, he's been there and done it.   I don't think he's attracted to Sang Ah's extrovert personality either.  He likes the quite mousy unassuming kind of a girl, those wallflowers, probably because of whatever painful past he has.  Like @bebebisous33 said, he must have overlooked something in the past so now, he goes out of his way to help others who can't help themselves.

All I can say is how we look at the chemistry between the characters is relative of course. Also I do not discount  what appeals to one viewer may not appeal to another. @dramaninja , I like that you are here for your girl :D

By the way this is the character description for the 4 main leads  in English by KBS world if you are interested:

http://kbsworld.kbs.co.kr/program/program_view.php?pg_seq=1229#

Spoiler from what I read

Spoiler

Kwon was DY’s Lawyer when her dad was going through bankruptcy and both keep in touch from time to time . Apparently he will find out about  Sang A’s living arrangements and he will feel bad for her ( in k drama terms - I Guess it means show care & affection  ) as she continues to hide her true self behind many cloaks ( quoting kbs verbatim)

@triplem I really enjoy the build up romance between lawyer Klutz and Sang Ah, esp the phone text accidentally sent oh-my-god.  Laughed out loud for me.  Funny to see SA not interested in the guy at all, most girls would reel him in just for his money and status alone.  Here, girlfriend is clueless about his interest.  He’s different than her ex-BF.  Not a sweet talker, nor is he graceful.   Guy is so adorkable!  Wonder why HS broke up with him.

I dont know what to say, I just like the drama so far. The story and the messages.

It didnt make me think too hard and frustrated cos of the angst.

I know it still too early but if the story stay as good as now, I think I can accept it if at the end of the drama, they all end up just as friends. I like a story about friendship too.

Actually, I like any good story as long as it didnt make me cry a river.

Yes he is so cute . Clumsy but kind . I like that. HS is the mutual Friend who got engaged right ? ( I forgot her name ). So he was her ex , and not just a suitor that got rejected?

Well I don't care who ends up with who. It's not a big deal (to me anyway) don't think this drama is like that anyway.  I mainly watch watch this for Ha Suk Jin. It's a good thing I like the story so I watch it and I also like his character and his motivational words. It stems from past experience  me thinks. I'm just about to watch sub for ep 4.

@bedifferent@bebebisous33Great to see your thoughts for this drama.

@bedifferent @triplem No, the name of Sang Ah's friend from elementary school is Tae Hee. Secondly, the latter was the one who got rejected by Kwon Jin Kook. Yes, KJK is adorable. First, he pays attention to his surroundings. He noticed her honesty because she gave back the lost expensive jewelry. He saw her modelling  and her beauty caught his attention. Then he met her taking care of the dog. That's how he witnessed another quality from her: empathy, warmth. Finally her reluctance to accept his money for the ruined coat underlined her lack of greed. She struggled a lot because she accepted his proposition. She even refused her friend's money. All this surprised JW because he knew her financial situation. She is definitely no leech.

At first I thought that Tae Hee was going to humiliate Sang Ah in front of her friends at early episode. I guess Im wrong.

Checking in here

I wasn't really planning on watching this one but i really like the girl who plays the pearl lady. I watched a mini series with her that i really liked, since then I tend to always check her dramas out. I also like the character of the house keeper guy too. Seems mindful of others, especially towards the shy girl when she walked home alone. I think pearl lady and house keeper guy has great chemistry, too bad they don't have a loveline because they are so funny together. I love their scenes! But i think the lawyer could be a good match too. Seems really nice and quirky haha! Maybe it's the age gap between the main leads that i don't like, it's the same with Mr Sunshine. I watch it but don't feel so invested or it's lack of chemistry, i don't know. But i will give it a chance

I believe that TH likes Sang Ah genuinely because she shows concern for her and even calls her for her engagement party. From my point of view, TH perceives SA not as someone who liked her for her fame and reputation but for whom she is. Notice how the others approached TH, when they were at school. They talked all about her commercials aso which outlines that her celebrity status was the reason why she was so popular.

Done with Ep 4. The story progress so far, I'm more interested main JW past. Don't want to touch who has chemistry with who and who lack. I'll leave that you guys. :D

In the scene where Tae Soo was sitting in Ji Woon's  chair he said he's trying what it fees like to be Ji Woon. That if he was him " Would I want to meet her? Even after five years. Would I still want to meet her?  You know what I'm doing right? I'm still searching.  I'm doing my best." Ji Woon asked who was that guy who left the bar so Tae Soo, it's just someone who's doing a job for him. So it appears that Tae Soo is looking Ji Woon's.... a) sister?  mother? or  a fiancee?   Who could be it. This is the arc that will have angst, I guess.

So Mi also needs heal from trauma.  I think the mother (Ep 1)  said the brother is coming back to Korea. She was shaken and this is why Somi wanted to move. I still think something bad happened to her.

For Song Ah.. I like that  we can relate to her with that sending text message then erasing a long one but accidentally sending something you did not mean to. Her scenes are the funny ones I like.

Da Yang, is timid and  will just be yes to everything because she thinks she doesn't have right to say no to everything being asked for her as she's an intern. But even outside the office, we still see her as someone timid.   From the 4 episodes we know she's an only child and both her parents passed away and they went bankrupt too.

Hye Joo my fav out of  them because.. she's sunny,  she's friends with the 3 ladies and she's has worry free life.. but.. probably not. As we saw from scene with the boyfriend.. though it's brief, I wonder what's going on.

I like the episode as JW gave us another insight about  what to keep inside your fridge. He likened emotions to an expiry date of food. Video below if you want to see. cr as tag.

"Even if you push your feelings away, once you get a feeling, it doesn't disappear. Emotions have expiration date.  Just like the food in your refrigerator begins to lose it's color. Emotions has expiration dates. When  tough, say that it's tough. When you're in pain, say that it hurts. You need to bring it out before it's too late."  JW, Ep 4

It’s good to see you here too, I’m waiting for Life to start

Those two voice overs are about Ji Woon though the secong one applies to Da Young too.  From the second VO, I think it has to be some past romantic love, not family since it talks about him finally getting amotional and cares about his clients.  He agrees to Sang Ah little scheme, went searching the trash for Da Young’s kindergarten’s slip and princess carried her to the hospital.  Verbally he said he won’t be the escort, never gets things lost or becomes a friend to any of the girls.  Slowly, they are opening him up.  The healing has begin for Ji Woon.

Thanks for setting me straight about TH.  I need to pay more attention :)

Kwon didn’t blow her cover either but it’s hilarious how Ji Woon’s the knight in shining armour now for Sang Ah cuz of his chivalry and support.  Coming to help her twice.  Sang Ah doesn’t know what Kwon knows so it sets up interesting dynamics where their relationship starts not on complete honesty.  When Sang Ah knows, would she be upset or feel a little manipulated by having been in the dark.  I mean will she feel foolish, her pride is a big thing.
