[Drama 2019] Romantic Comedy King / Absolute Boyfriend, 절대 그이 [Zettai Kareshi Adaptation]

Recommended Posts

OCN isn't known for their rom-com's (& it's something they only started doing recently, if memory serves me correctly), when it comes to drama's their go to drama's are gritty and on the darker side e.g. Bad Guys, Save Me, Voice etc. I tried watching My Secret Romance and it wasn't good, I ended up dropping it by ep 6. I have yet to hear a good review for any of their rom-com's, keeping my fingers-crossed that it'll change this time around and they've got a winner on their hands. If we're going to play the ratings game, they'd need to cast a big name opposite SJH to bring in interest tbh.

Yes aside from having an interesting storyline, having two popular and talented actors as lead would be the easiest and safest way to attract alot of attention, here is a hoping that Song Ji Hyo will pair up with someone equally famous, talented and popular. Wish we would soon get to know who they had in mind for the male lead role, and who is given the offer.

This may be  a bit off topic, but Song Ji Hyo is currently trending on Naver as nr. 1 again

I personally wouldn't mind if this drama turns out to be more of romance drama without much comedy, I persoanally prefer romance dramas to be more on the serious side!

No, Song Ji Hyo's last romance drama was a webdrama "28 gram" and "My Wife's having an affair this week" aka "Listen to love" they were both fantastic dramas, that really left a deep impression, she nailed her role and had amazing chemistry with her partners as usual. I don't know about OCN but Song Ji Hyo is the queen of romance, and I always loved her choices in script and stories, because they somehow always intriged my interest beside me being a huge fan of her and therefor would watch anything she stars in but she somehow always chose work i would have wanted to watch despite that fact, anyway let's not speculate to much on rumours and speculations, when SJH did her last drama for JTBC she managed to pull the highest rating for JTBC after awhile, and she can do it again for OCN, the story is based on a classic with an interesting plot.

I wasn't counting the webdrama, and "Listen to Love" was more of a slice of life drama, at least to me. If we want to be technical, Ji Hyo's last work that dealt with romance was "B Manager and Love Letter", a Tv movie. So, that's why I considered her last broadcasted romance drama to be "Ex-Girlfriend's Club". I'm a huge fan of Ji hyo's and will always try to watch all of her works, but I couldn't get through that show mainly because of the writing. We're all entitled to our own opinions. On the other hand, "Listen to Love" was a great watch because it tackled sensitive material while having some levity with the idea as shown by the storyline between Kim Hee Won and Ye Ji Won's characters. Ji Hyo's acting was on point too. I see "Ex-Girlfriend's Club" as an outlier! I want this drama to hit daebak just as much as any other fan of Ji Hyo's!

ah now your comment makes more sense, well all we can do is wait until more casting has become official, but like i said i persoanlly wouldn't mind if this turns our more of a slice of life romance like many other OCN dramas, this usualy just means that the storyline will be deeper, and that's something i would always welcome

Okay out of curiosity i did a little research on the manga, i remember reading it when i was younger, but don't remember much, so i went to some reviews and what i got was there will be some sexually intense scenes i don't know if OCN is strict but i doubt it, and if they follow the manga it will be a really intense romance with alot of sexy scenes, here are some comments revealing some of the content from the story:

"When you want a boyfriend none are around, that is just how Riiko feels. On the path of desperation she signs up for a free trial for a robotic boyfriend. What can go wrong right? Nope, wrong! Riiko receives the extravagant Night, a hot and sexy man that only wants to please her. "

Spoiler

after being so happy with the last volume for its treatment of the same issues, I have to dock a couple stars from this one for the upsetting way the heroine deals with [being drugged, potentially raped, and constantly kissed and otherwise physically harassed by the love interests

I hope this remake will follow the original classic manga story, it's a big hit for good reason and none of the previous filmatisation have so far remade a close adaption to the story, hope this korean version will do so.

I think i now understand why OCN chose to do a remake of this romantic story, because it's quite uniq has some dark elements to it, sexually charged, and isn't typical in it's content for a romcom so it kinda fits the dramas OCN usually airs, don't you guys think?

It's taking them a long time to cast the Male lead? wonder if whether have eyed a specific actor for the role and maybe waiting for him to finish his current projects, i mean alot of really famous and popular male actors are currently taken, so it would make sense if they are waiting for more choices to to chose from!

Is SJH 100% confirmed for this?. Only asking because of her casting in the film "Raging Bull" which plans to go on the floors in mid-April, makes me wonder where it leaves this project.

I've been wondering about this too.... according to gapiplus (an ardent Song Ji Hyo fan account on all forms of social media), she hasn't been confirmed for this drama at all or at least, her company hasn't made any sort of official announcement. I feel like it's been a while since she was offered this role, so she's probably fielding other projects (Raging Bull, etc). She isn't confirmed for "Raging Bull" either. I wonder if she's waiting to see who her counterpart would be for the drama to make her decision since that could be a deciding factor. She hasn't denied the offer, so there's that. I'm sure juggling a drama, a movie (although I'm not sure how big of a role it is. I know she's  playing opposite of Ma Dong Seok and everything, but I have an odd suspicion that it'll mostly be focused on him and his action scenes in trying to save his kidnapped wife that he's always thiiiiisss close to recovering), a beauty show, and Running Man all at the same time would be way too much to handle. I'm curious as to see what she chooses to pursue. Which would you rather see her do if it is an either or situation: the drama or the movie? Personally, I'd much rather see her in the drama since it would be more content...but I think I read in an article, that Ji Hyo wanted to be in more movies (although I don't know if it was over necessarily doing a drama). It was most likely a general statement, but still. All we can do at this point is speculate. The movie does apparently have a star studded cast, so I wouldn't be surprised if she chose the movie over the drama. What do you guys think?

I follow gapiplus on twitter + IG and saw their comment that she hasn't confirmed this drama, this is also part of why I decided to head over to here and get a clarification. I guess it's all a waiting game to see what she'll be doing next, but as for me as a fan I want her to do good projects. Screen-time doesn't matter as long as the role and story are solid, there's no point in being in a 16 ep drama that is just plain bad and isn't giving you the right kind of exposure. At the same time I do worry with "Raging Bull" that she'll just be a damsel in distress, I hope the role that has been offered is something substantive. It is possible she can do both it just depends on her schedule and when the drama plans to start shooting because it could end up being in the second half of this year.

I'm really hoping that Song Ji Hyo will do both I really want to see her in a this drama, she fits perfectly for the role, and it's been awhile since we saw her in a romantic drama series.

This could be the case, but i thought she confirmed that she will be starring in this drama. I want to see her n both this drama and the movie "Raging Bull", if she has to choose between something i would rather she chooses the movie, and drama over RM.

SJH is out and there ends my interest in this drama lol. Good Luck to the team, I do hope it does well for whoever ends up being a part of it.

Yes I sadly just saw the news that Song Ji Hyo turned down the offer to star in this drama, what a shame she would have been perfect for the role sigh

I think this will be a pre-produced drama (which is great for the actors but kind of risky for the drama; also we'll have to wait T-T). No questions about the actors, but Minah I hope she does as well as her last drama Gong Shim, or even better cause it's been a while since that drama and I missed her as an actress

If I'm correct, Kwon Hyunsang has joined the drama!!
