Memories of the Alhambra is one of the most popular Korean dramas in South Korean TV broadcast history. This series is a spectacle that is widely discussed throughout its broadcast.

 

 

Scoring a rating of 10.8 percent on AGB Nielsen, Memories of the Alhambra was directed by director Ahn Gil Ho with a script written by Song Jae Jung.

 

This Korean drama about games takes the sci-fi genre with a touch of action and thriller. In addition, there is a romance spice from the love story that occurs between the characters.

Memories of the Alhambra is a Korean drama about the first game with the theme of  augmented reality (AR). AR type games are able to combine objects in the game with the real world.

Memories of the Alhambra tells the story of Yoo Jin Woo (Hyun Bin), the CEO of a technology investment company who comes to Barcelona to meet Jung See Joo (EXO's Chanyeo).

See Joo created an augmented reality game called Memories of the Alhambra . To get the game's license, Jin Woo was involved in a battle with other parties who also wanted the game.

Launching the Korea Times, the scriptwriter for Memories of the Alhambra claimed to be inspired by the AR game that was on the rise, namely Pokemon Go.

"When I play Pokemon Go , I think it's really cool. The game opened my eyes to a game that everyone really loves," said Song Jae Jung.

Before playing the Pokemon Go game , Song Jae Jung never thought about raising the spectacle of AR games. Jae Jung thinks that it takes a big budget to produce works like Avatar and Ready Player One that use advanced technology.

But apparently, Pokemon Go inspired Song Jae Jung to create stories using AR 

technology. He also wondered about the game Pokemon Go .

"What if someone is faced with a life like Pokemon Go but in the real world? Some may feel afraid, but there are also those who like it. I myself am amazed by technological developments," he said.

Through the Korean drama Memories of the Alhambra, he tried to introduce the basic concepts of gaming such as missions , level-ups, and allied groups. Meanwhile, Jae Jung was inspired by Elon Musk's autobiography which made him choose a man as the main character in this Korean drama.

"Memories of the Alhambra" is a 2018 South Korean television series starring Hyun Bin and Park Shin-hye. The K-drama dropped its final episode on January 20, 2019. Nearly three years after its release, fans continue to hope that the creators will definitely return with Season 2 soon.

 

"Memories of the Alhambra" was obviously a commercial success, consistently topping the cable television viewership ratings in its timeslot. The drama has grabbed audience's attention for its unique theme of augmented reality and earned praise for its high-end computer graphics, cinematography, and fast-paced storytelling.

 

In the meantime, a petition was launched to compel the creators to renew Memories of the Alhambra for Season 2. Although Netflix or TvN has not yet made any official announcement on the show's renewal, fans are hopeful that Memories of the Alhambra Season 2 would come in the future. In their defense, the renewal of successful titles is a de facto norm in the industry. Many earlier hit k-dramas was restored by public demand lately.

 

"Memories of the Alhambra" follows Yoo Jin-woo (Hyun Bin), the CEO of a finance company that deals with visual devices. After receiving an email regarding a groundbreaking AR game about medieval battles in the Alhambra, Yoo Jin-woo, travels to Granada, Spain to meet the creator of the game, Jung Se-joo (Park Chan-yeol).

 

However, Se-joo has gone missing and there he meets his older sister, Jung Hee-joo (Park Shin-hye), who is the owner of the hostel he stays in. His sister is a former guitarist too. Both get entangled in mysterious incidents, as the border between the real world and the AR world built by Se-joo begins to blur. When Memories of the Alhambra Season 2 returns, viewers might see some twists in the interesting storyline.

 

Presently, there is no announcement regarding the second season of the k-drama. However, the renewal of "Memories of the Alhambra" Season 2 could be delayed due to the prevailing Covid-19 pandemic.
