[Drama 2018] Wok of Love (Greasy Melo) 기름진 멜로

Recommended Posts

I’m still watching this but I will have to agree with @mimisl123 that it’s getting a tad boring even though I thought the first few episodes were good!

I guess it reminds me so much of Jealousy Incarnate - the essence of the plot, the personalities of the leads, their dynamics... even the complex and chaotic subplots in the “background”. So it’s quite easy to guess how it’s going to go from here - with 11 episodes (or 22 in the new system) left to go... and I guess knowing that, it’s boring for me already.

I think JH is amazing... Junho is great and I’ve always loved JRW.

BUT (a big bold BUT) - because the dynamics remind me so much of JI - I really can’t help but to compare them to JI’s leads. Trust me, I don’t like to compare but I think the writer is kinda lazy so she’s really just moving the same kind of personalities to a different setting, so I really can’t help it.

Junho is great - and especially since he’s a new actor, he’s doing a good job. But CJS was SOOOOOO MUCH better in portraying an arrogant, insecure and angry genius who feels wronged in many ways because of the cards dealt to him by unfortunate fate. Junho is great but he lacks that depth to draw out those complex emotions with just one look, or by speaking just a simple sentence.

Same goes for JRW - I have always liked JRW since years ago, and I’ve enjoyed her dramas - however, GHJ was AMAAAAAAAZING in portraying a somewhat naive woman with a lot of inner strength to get through her hardships. I think it also helps when for some reason, GHJ has incredible chemistry with all her leading men.

Of course, much has to do with the writing too. JI was by no means perfect, but with male breast cancer as the thread of the story, along with GHJ’s dream to become an anchor and working hard and succeeding, and the complex situation about their extended families... there are different layers for the actors to work with... leads and supporting.

To be honest, I’m still not sure exactly what it is that’s happening in the drama - so it’s two guys falling in love with the same girl, while they try to win against the hotel? Yea, so? That’s what I’m feeling right now.

And the horse? What’s the significance other than the cancer? And why get LMS to play two characters... what’s the story there, is there even one? Or it’s simply coz the writer likes LMS so much that she wants to her to have more screen time?

I do hope I’m wrong here and will be pleasantly surprised. Soon though coz we’re already half way through!

@joyue_1You put into words what I've been thinking and feeling. I agree about the writer being kind of lazy. JI could be frustrating but the male breast cancer story was good and tied into both the relationship and workplace parts of the drama. SP getting revenge and building a successful restaurant is fine but it's a bit simplistic for a 16 episode drama much less a 20 episode one. We're almost halfway through and not much has even been done with it. JRW's character frustrates me the most though. Not because I don't like her but because so far she's just a tool for the romance.  GHJ's character frustrated me so much in JI in regards to the love triangle but she did have a dream and worked hard to achieve that dream. Does SW have a dream? She's working as SP's "ladle" and I get she doesn't have many options right now, but I'd like to see her trying to figure out what her dream is and how to work toward it. I don't know. I feel like all of the characters are so underdeveloped and it's a shame.

Just watched the raw episodes and I feel like now both DCS and SP are giving up the girl to one another, because they know how each one feel about the girl. I'll be honest, it's worst than love triangles. Like it's one of those situation of "No, you take it." "No, i insist you take it." back and forth, back and forth. I hope DSW makes up her mind and sticks to one of them and makes it clear by at least tomorrow.

From the previews, it seems like SP is giving up DSW for DCS, his hyung, but DSW is going to choose SP..? Just my guess.

Either way, I am soo soo HAPPY that DCS got the recipe book, just upset that the freakin master chef is going to be the one cooking it and he's going to betray SP big time.

Love this scene. Such a Hyung and Dongsaeng scene. :D

me too. i need more bromance. since we can't or maybe dont get proper kiss scene. take a note to writer maybe next time she have to find shipable  couple. coz, for me. who really match and shipable is Junho and Janghyuk. about their chemi with JRW was really good. but actually becoz their acting really good and on point. that's all. even pretty noona super boring, but their couple shipable. that's why ppl still root for them ha3x. sometimes shipper can help.

I NEED BROMANCE not ROMANCE :bawling:

With a new drama’s premiere, there’s been a shake-up among Monday-Tuesday evening dramas!

According to Nielsen Korea, MBC’s “Partners for Justice” was No. 1 in its time slot for the very first time with average nationwide viewership ratings of 7.0 percent and 7.7 percent for its June 4 broadcast. These ratings were also notably a personal best for the drama. It also brought in the highest average viewership in metropolitan areas with ratings of 7.7 percent and 8.5 percent as well as for among those in the age group 20-49 (the target audience for most shows) with a viewership of 3.6 percent and 3.9 percent.

SBS’s “Wok of Love” also saw an increase in ratings and came in second. It recorded a viewership of 6 percent and 6.5 percent, which is 1.5 percent and 1.3 percent higher than its previous broadcast. The June 4 episode further explored the complicated feelings of Seo Poong (2PM’s Junho), Dan Sae Woo (Jung Ryeo Won), and Doo Chil Sung (Jang Hyuk). Many are looking forward to seeing how this love triangle will be resolved with the unexpected decision Seo Poong announced in this broadcast.

Alongside these dramas was KBS2’s “Are You Human, Too?” which made its premiere on June 4. While it was in last place, it brought in solid ratings of 5.2 percent and 5.9 percent. Viewers praised Seo Kang Joon for his interpretation of his two-in-one character as both a human and a robot as well as the natural-looking CG that was utilized throughout the drama.

As the difference in ratings is not large, it will be interesting to see how these dramas fare in the weeks to come.

Haha I don’t think many are looking forward to the love triangle when we all know the OTP is who already. Suspense gone already.

We want to move on from the love triangle but writer wants to drag it on. The writer needs to stop this draggy plot and it doesn’t help when many hearts ache with DCS when he looks so sadddd.

I really don’t mind seeing DCS as a supporting figure to both of them but pls give me his side of the story with his minions and grandma LMS and crooked.

We are already halfway thru.

And i I want JH in the next drama already. I feel his pain here :(

@joyue_1 ahh JJS! master of subtle acting. that man can emote even with his nose. :D That one bias I totally adore after Jang Hyuk. he make watchin 50 ep of weeknd drama bearable with his charm. lol

I think some writer really want to insert their signature or trend in their drama. sometimes they can't help being repetitive thinking that was their style. it happen not only with this writer but also with IHYV writer that make watchin all her drama like in a repetitive loop.

@kohnlee I wanna see bts of that scene. with his slim and bad legs I curious how many times JH need to do that scene (carrying LMS). :glasses:

Are you referring to JJS and IU's drama? I was thinking about watching that because of JJS but it's too long. Is it worth watching?

I think WOL is a mix of JI, Pasta and MK.

JI = love triangle which causes a lot of SLS

MK = ex gangster falling in love

Pasta = angry and bossy chef

If anyone has the BTS of DCS carrying Gum Granny LMS, I'd love to see that too. :D

I want to make lil bit analysis. After My Ahjussi and Pretty Noona ended. Wok Of Love Take all popularity.

and last nite rating seems raise, maybe coz MiracleThatWeMet   ended last week.

and Partner Justice lead. from Good Data information. Drama most talk about Wok of Love number 3 after MissHammurabi & MiracleThatWeMet (understanable coz last EP).

1. SNS

2. RERUN BROADCAST

3. STREAMING from official site KOCOWA

4. THE POWER OF JANG HYUK, JRW, JUNHO, and SUPPORTING CAST. all of them veteran. with excellent skill.

I don't think it's fair for the cast & crew that they are being compared to other past dramas. Just as comparing who is a better actor? I firmly believe that the cast of wok of love has done their part in making us feel how it is to be in their shoes. What better way to measure their respective performances.

I know I saw this and I was like who is that guy following Chansung, little did I know it was Junho. Lol!  Couldn't tell it was him all covered up like that. He must be looking like exhausted with all the late filming then flying off.

I watched it with subs and laughed soo hard at the part Maeng Dal approach DSW about the recording. It's hilarious and at the same time embarassing for DSW, the farting part.

It hurts to see that DCS can't let go of the crush, but I think he's going to start seeing SP and DSW and realize it. Let's just hope they don't forget the other side characters and give them decent good endings.
