Epinephrine is a natural hormone produced in your body, usually called adrenaline, e.g, the stuff that is produced when one is excited or one is having a fight/flight response. And, it has a lot of uses in your body, causing smooth muscles to relax and striated muscles to contract, and having an effect of stimulation of some systems and restriction of other systems.

So, epinephrine in drug form is used pretty commonly, for instance, in anaphylaxis, e.g. severe, acute allergy symptoms, epinephrine is used to counter the symptoms (e.g. EpiPen). And, when the heart is failing, epinephrine is one of the medication that is used to try to help the heart, usually by injection directly into the blood stream. In times of cardiac arrest, under certain circumstances, it can be injected directly into the heart to try to help restart it and stabilize the heartbeat.

Also, since the body produces it naturally as well, there aren't issues of the body rejecting epinephrine, though there are some side effects of an epi application, including fast heart beat and elevation of blood pressure, and adding epi to a stable system may actually cause the heart to become temporarily irregular.

So, it's not just a medical drama thing. It's not a miracle drug, but it's close.

The wet cloth fever wipe, however, may help someone feel better since they're heating up, but it doesn't actually treat the fever itself. In order to break the fever faster, one may acetaminophen, ibuprofen or another NSAID. However, those just treat the fever as well. Usually, the fever is a symptom of something else going on in the body, and so one doesn't become better until the underlying issues have worked itself out. And, the wet cloth doesn't have that much efficacy.

lol thanks for tagging me stroppyse.  I'll get back to drama tropes in a while.  Glanced at @Lmangla's list, not sure if you got to 100 yet but I have a few in mind.

- To answer your questions about wet nap, Kdrama gets it 1/2 right.  Fever can be from several sources:

1) if the fever is caused by infections, disease, etc.. any organism or substance that caused our hypothalamus to increase our body temp set point, a wet nap won't be able to cure the fever.  The hypothalamus in the brain is like the thermostat of your AC/heating unit in your house.  It keeps your core body temperature constant by heat up (closing blood vessels, increasing body metabolism) or cooling down (sweating/ dilating the surface blood vessels).  An infection triggers immune system cytokines releases and tells the brain to increase the temperature.  It's our own body's smart way to notify us that something is wrong.  In this case, to bring down the fever, we have to use drugs that block or reduces the immune cytokines and chemicals levels to dial back the hypothalamus's overdrive.  We then treat the infections separately to remove offending substances.

2) if the fever is caused by hot weather, overexertion or heat stroke, drugs wouldn't work but cool compress or wet nap would.  The person needs to be cooled immediately with cold water/ice or a fan.  Most of time, we apply it to the forehead thinking that it's directly over the brain but anything that opens up the pores to let heat out or dilate the blood vessels would do.  A wet nap would be able reduce body heat because it is not pyrogen-mediated.

- About epinephrine, it's a blood vessel constrictor.  During an emergency or code, we do all that we can to keep the heart and brain alive.  We give epinephrine to squeeze shut and compress all blood vessels and direct the blood back to the heart and brain.   It also binds to the heart muscle receptors to increase heart muscle contraction, heart rate and electrical conductivity.  The funny thing is that while it contracts the smooth muscles in your blood vessels to bring up blood pressure, it relaxes the smooth muscles of your lungs, bladder and uterine.  How I remember what it does is to remember the fight/flight response... Like when you are hiking and see a bear, what happens to your body and reactions.  You releases epinephrine.  Your heart rate goes up, your eyes dilate, blood pumping to your brain and heart.  You hyperventilate and breathe hard.  BUT, while you are running away from the bear, some people would also experience lost of control of their bladder.

Enough said!

No, seriously. I personally think love triangles are there to create conflict among the people who watch the same drama. Love triangles are there to create conflict. Period. Because you always have the people who side with the OTP and you have the people who side with the second lead.

And apparently fans love to see two guys fight over one girl like two Neanderthal men fighting over who is worthy carrying the girl to their cave. And then they call it cute. ROFL

@stargazer187 Sometimes two minds think alike. :D

who is that guy
