So Bai Qian is  Magnificant White?

Which is the Ye in Ye Hua mean?

The "hua (華)" means magnificent (can also be used to mean "flowery / flower" XD). It's the one in Yehua and Donghua.

The ye in Yehua (夜華) means "night."

In Bai Qian, the characters are 白淺. The 白 (bai) is "white" and the 淺 (qian) is "shallow / superficial / pale, etc."

What vegatable equivalent is that?  @UnluckyWhiteCat used spinach.   It was one of the variations I was curious about as I was doing a re-read! :)

These are the characters for the vegetable: 胭脂菜

This is what I'm getting as the specific species: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Basella_alba

Do we know if Feng Jui's mom is a single tailed red fox or a multi tailed fox?

Her mother is a single tailed red fox.

Interbreeding was not easy between a nine-tailed white fox and a red fox. As the only nine-tailed red fox in the world, she also grew up so handsomely, thus it could be considered ancestral blessings. (PB2, p179)

Oh that reminds me does anyone know what is Si Ming's other form? (if he has one?)

None has been mentioned so far if the Star Lord has another form. Maybe there'll be more about Si Ming in the next books. :)

In that case 2nd brother gets a pass if Feng Jiu is their only child, and we know 4th Brother wont have kids unless he adopts. (which is why I think he might pass it to Bai Qian's 2nd child)  but the other 3 brothers have no excuse!!!

Hi @UnluckyWhiteCat havnt seen you around for a few weeks!.

Bleck.. Shallow or Superficial White doesnt sound like something the parents would name their only daughter --any other meanings?  :S

Cool! I may just order some of that plant -sounds like it would do well in my grandmother's backyard.

Heehee, I'm still around, I just tend to fall a little more on the lurker-y side, so whenever I fall off the face of the earth, that's why. I am keeping up with the thread though, I just don't always log on / comment. ^_^

Mmm, I'll copy a list of possible definitions of the word for you:

shallow; not deep
superficial; surface; minimal; insignificant
simple; easy-to-understand
not intimate; distant
(of colours) light; pale
- Synonym: 淡 (dàn)
(of time) short; not long
(of level) slight; light

From: https://en.wiktionary.org/wiki/淺#Chinese

Also about the Siming thing, I think it's possible that he might not have one, because he's a figure in Chinese mythology, who, as far as I know, doesn't have another form, so Tangqi might choose not to assign him an animal form. Also, not all the immortals have alternate forms, for example, there are those humans who cultivate to become immortal, and (at least I assume) that they retain their human forms because that's their original form. And then obviously there are other gods like DH who don't have another form either.

I've seen translations of Bai Qian as White Light. So it quite matches Ye Hua's name. :) Even Su Su if I remember correctly has almost the same meaning as Bai Qian.

Bring to 375F (191C) with candy thermometer and pour to the moulds

*** I have found several sites recommend that Lyle's Golden Syrup be used in place of corn syrup for better flavored candies.

*** the subtitles suggest that certain honey was used in making them but not sure if that was a miswording.

In with the NEW out with the OLD. Such is the cycle of life!

So I wanted to share more about the balance of power in the current age of the Eight Realms.

About power balance in the Four Seas and Eight Realms.

Dong Hua distributed his single absolute power to several different Lords so that no one person can abuse his power as the sole Lord of the Four Seas and Eight Realms. This is the best way - decentralised governance in the hands of reliable people.

Current Age redistribution of power:

Eastern Realm - Qing Qiu Fox King - redistributed it into 5 realms amongst his 5 children. Feng Jiu became the young Queen of Qing Qiu when her aunt married Ye Hua, becoming the Crown Princess, and future Heavenly Queen.

Nine Heavens - Heavenly Lord

Underworld  - They have never ever been part of Nine Heavens. They work in partnership with them and attend court sessions when necessary. It is under the control of the Black and White Lords of the Underworld, siblings Xie Gu Chou (Black) and Xie Hua Lou (White). When one is ruling, the other is in a deep sleep and vice versa.

Northern Realm - Part of it under the Ghost King (currently Li Jing who btw is still the Ghost King in the books, he did not die in the books). Ghost race is a vassal state of Nine Heavens.

Earthly Realms - This is scattered into different Lords taking care of different things. For example, Immortal Lord Cang Yi, the master of the thousands of rivers and valleys in the billions of mortal realms.

Four Seas - Under the control of the four dragon kings. Sang Ji is now the Lord of the Northern Sea. Su Mo Ye is the second son of the Lord of the West Sea. The Lord of the East Sea is a benefactor of Bai Qian, as her mother ran into difficulties in labour. Mother and baby were both saved by a midwife sent by the previous Lord of the East Sea.

The nine tailed foxes are known to have difficult labours, and I am just thankful Feng Jiu came through giving birth to Bai Gun Gun on her own. Clap Clap Clap!

-------

After the final war between them and Dong Hua that made him Master of Heaven and Earth:-

The demon race has 7 governing clans by 7 Lords:

We have met several - Yan Chi Wu, Pretty boy Lord of the Green Clan (and Feng Jiu's bestie), Xu Yang the power hungry Lord of the Red Clan (in the book he was ambitious and wanted to be the alpha Lord of the Demons), and Nie Chu Yin, Lord of the Black Clan who is equally cunning and wants to usurp power.

Wait till Ancestor Goddess, Shao Wan returns. She will fix those that don't behave, hahaha! After all, the good goddess saved us mere humans!

@Ninky @MayanEcho @UnluckyWhiteCat  -can you guys help me make a list of cast of characters, their chinese characters and their names meanings?

Mo Yuan

Ink (dark) Deep (deep valley)

Quote

Ye Hua    Magnificant?

Magnificent Night

Quote

Bai Qian  White Light?

Surname White. We do not add surnames to the meaning of Chinese names. Her name is a single word - Shallow as in Water (in contrast to Mo Yuan's Deep), could also mean "Light" as in Dark and Light. and a third meaning is sink. There are several meanings to the word so in this context, it would most likely be Light. The origin of their surname is probably because the starting clan members were Arctic nine tailed foxes so they were pure white.

Quote

A'Li  Leaving?

Literally means A Li - Leaving/separation. But he has been given a formal name it's Bai Chen (Surname White but his name means Dragon)

Quote

Dong Hua DJin

Dong Hua = Eastern Brilliance or Magnificence (either as it is roughly the same meaning)

Quote

Bai Feng Jiu  White Phoenix 9

Phoenix Nine, we omit surnames in meanings. It's not because she has nine tails. It's because of her forehead birthmark that she was named as such. Birthmark said to have 9 petals. Looks like the Phoenix Plume (flower). But the nine could also be because she is a nine tailed fox. So you can take her name to mean Nine tailed fox with a Phoenix Plume (flower) on her forehead as well.

Quote

Bai Gun Gun

Rolling Rolling HAHAHAH (his formal name has not been given but it will be as he can't be called that his entire life ewww!

Quote

Zhe Lan

It's Zhe Yan, not Zhe Lan. His name is funny it means Loosing Face. Or Cut Colour. Depends on how you want to see it.

Quote

Lian Song

Lotus (song has no meaning it has historically meant the Song Dynasty of China and large somebody's surname)

Quote

Si Ming

Reflecting Life - His name is actually a good one. He is a star lord that writes the destinies of Humans in each of their lifetimes. So yeah his name matches what he does.

Quote

Yan ChiWu

Pond (likely to denote water) Enlightened.

Quote

Su Moye

Mo Ye = Stranger/Distant Leaf

You can't really look at their names literally. For example Feng Jiu is named as such because of her birthmark but if u read it literally, it sounds really weird and makes no sense.

Thanks @Ninky its like our names for mine the literal translations of my first and middle names are  bitter herb/myrrh and either gazelle/gorgeous (most dictionaries only 1st gazelle) so using the literal meanings wouldnt make sense.  I was just including the Surnames so that their names were fully listed and since they are one of the only ones with surnames in the series so far.

Though I gotta say "Shallow" doesnt seem like a great name for Fox King and Queen's only daughter -lol.

I think @MayanEcho had mentioned in the old thread that it was sometimes translated as Light instead of Shallow?   and that Su-Su meant something similar?

Back to Chaos finally gives us the name of the Fox Queen.

Photos! Here are some that I did as an edit challenge in an event thread.

That word has three meanings. Shallow, Light and Sink. Look at the update to my post. I have listed Light as one of the names and most likely the correct one in the context of using it as a name. Su Su does not mean light. It means Simple, which as a mortal she was.
