[Mainland Chinese Drama 2019] Le Coup de Foudre 我不喜欢这世界,我只喜欢你

As expected, I failed to step on the brakes and watched all 6 episodes for this week. In order to calm my withdrawal symptom  I started to look around the promotion videos. So I came across this MV where MY said "ZQY, I never plan to leave your side since the day I met you. I will always be yours". It's not the typical possessive trait "You will always be mine" that male characters have all the time but a firm will to "give up my entire self to you". It's simple swap between the pronouns "you" and "I", yet it leaves a heavy favourable aftertaste. This is an incredible drama, I cant keep myself from smiling.

Thoughts on ep 13-18:

Spoiler

It's hilarious to watch YM's tsundere personality kick in, his actions and his words never match up when it come to QY. "I don't care about QY" but carries on to question more about her current situation. Tells Da Chuan "I dont have time" then still goes to the QY's interview. He is too adorable especially when he calls QY a pig. HAHA

I admire how drama handled QY's realization that the oversea studies in England is unachievable dream and the way she pushes MY away while fully knowing how much it will hurt both of them. It's so much easier watching a drama where the female protagonist learns how to cope with the pain rather just crying about it. Even when QY meets MY at the same restaurant as the one 6 years ago, she continues to keep her feelings and her standing outside the window a silent fact.

It's my first time watching Zhang Yu Jian so I find myself complimenting a lot about his excellent acting but Wu Qing is doing just as well. May I point out the way QY rejects MY's handshake is another level of cuteness.

In the novel, QY had an ex-boyfriend code name 'young master' so I think fur coat actor might be the ex. IF that is true, then I cant wait for MY's reaction.HAHA!

Also, there was this part about 1000 stars in the novel and there are traces of these scenes in the drama. I hope the drama will give the full story because I was really touched by that part of the story.

Lastly, in ep 14 during the scene where ZY cries on the bus and there is set of flashbacks during their youth period,  I notice there was a scene that I haven't seen before. So I am wondering if I missed that part in the earlier episodes or has it not aired yet.

And the broomstick, 1st meeting. I wonder when that will happen.

why he got angry after reading that???

”言默老奸巨猾大坏蛋“

老奸巨猾- English equivalent would be along the lines of old sly fox

大坏蛋- big bad egg meaning a jerk

SO the entire the sentence is "YAN MO is an old sly [fox and a] jerk".

Aw, there were two things I really loved about Episode 10.  First, the pure delight on Yan Mo's face when Qiao Yi accidentally referred to his mother as, "Ma."  The fact that he so rarely smiles and laughs to begin with adds so much weight and meaning to his reaction in that moment.

Second, Yan Mo's mother's response when he told her he no longer wanted to study in England.  In a different drama, the reaction probably would've been one that was more upset and angry.  I think we can all picture that scene where his mother would yell at him for throwing away his future, and all for a girl.  She'd likely even be angrier at Qiao Yi than her own son.  But here, in this drama, Yan Mo's mother does none of those things.  Instead, she trusts her son and tells him that she respects his decisions.  Her response leaves us in no doubt that she loves Yan Mo and places great import on his happiness.  But even more than that, she demonstrated great insight when she asked him for only one thing -- and that was that he talk things over with Qiao Yi before making a final decision.  I've been a fan of Yan Mo's mother since she entered our screens that very first time, but my estimation of her grew even higher when she pointed out to Yan Mo the burden he would be placing on Qiao Yi if he didn't include her in the decision-making process.  Her whole reaction to her son's announcements demonstrates just what a sensible and loving mother she is.  I'm a big fan.

Things I was not so happy about . . . what else, but the subs.  Sigh.  The most egregious error in translation, IMO, is from the opening flashback where the subs have Qiao Yi saying, "Now he should play a joke with me."  That doesn't even make sense, Hauace!  What she's really commenting on (after we see two scenes where he both plays along with her silly antics and cracks a joke) is how she's managed to lead Yan Mo astray.  She observes that in the past he wasn't like that, but he was a very respectable person, and Yan Mo asks her if she's trying to say he was boring (at least the subs got that part right!).

I'm new to Cdramas (only started this Feb) so I'm not familiar with their actors.:D

I'm totally smitten by the actor acting as YM. He may not be as eye candy as Yang Yang of Love 020, Linyi of PYHOMS or Yan Xi of AIL but he is charismatic in his own way. His acting as the nerdy, tsundere & lovelorn character in this drama had me giggling like a teenager again although I'm a grandma of 2!

I just cant get enough of this gem of a drama!

@DontEatMyKimchi, I think QY is a considerate and strong person. Her brother pretty much realize these qualities in her because he told YM this when he recounted their past with the trash biological father. I really like her character because although she’s not the smartest cookie, she has “common sense” which I find too many people lack nowadays. Her mother said this too when she said that when they were younger while the brother would ask for expensive toys, her daughter never did because she recognized their family’s financial challenges. At such a young age she already knew not to burden her parents about things that might bring more hardship.

@themarchioness, I was really impressed with YM’s mom as well. Not only was she friendly with QY, she respected her son’s opinion and advised him wisely. Actually I appreciate so many of these characters. When the step dad said that he wanted to escort QY down the aisle during her wedding or when he said if her husband ever mistreated her he would bring her back home to live, I was really touched by his sincere affection for QY. I think it was effective writing to have the two dads in the same episode to demonstrate the difference between the two. For me, step dad continues to shine as a character.

Spoiler

I know he’s going to be wheel chair bound soon so I wonder how he will handle that life changing event.

I keep thinking I missed certain scenes. I don’t remember at all the flashback where GC hugs WY while she was crying in front of her ex-boyfriend in his classroom. Which episode had that scene?

You didn't miss anything!  They didn't show us that scene, only through the flashback, which I think works.  It allows the story to keep moving forward but still lets us know what happened to fill in those gaps.  And by that I mean, for example, with respect to HWY and her boyfriend, the last time we saw them, she was trying to pin him down while he was evading her.  We never saw what happened after she left QY outside the bookstore that one time to chase after him.  Now, through this flashback, we know.  He finally and officially dumped her, and GC swooped in to help her save face.

Another example of the drama leaving us hanging is when YM finally learns of his parents' divorce.  Episode 8 ended with the confrontation, but Episode 9 picked up with an entirely new story line.  I hope we will learn through flashback or some other subsequent explanation of how YM ultimately processed that situation and came out the other side.

And I agree @celebrianna, I'm continuously impressed by the stepdad but my heart practically swelled when he asked to walk QY down the aisle* and talked about how they'd make sure she married a good man and protect her if she didn't.  There are so many characters to love in this drama, it's really its best feature.  I could just watch them all day, I think!  :)  This is also why, in spite of the changes from the book, most of them I don't mind because if we didn't have these changes, we wouldn't have awesome characters like the stepdad, Da Chuan, and even the expanded character of Guan Chao.

[*Speaking of differences from the book, I thought I'd mention in case anyone was interested, in the book, there is no stepdad.  Therefore, the most mention QY's father gets is when she shares that the last time she met her father was before she got married.  She asked him whether he wanted to attend her wedding, but he "awkwardly rubbed his hands together before rejecting [her] gently."  That's how the story then segues into an explanation that her parents divorced when she was four over his affair, and why her family was financially strapped while growing up.]

Continuing with my appreciation medals after finishing ep 9 & 10 .  Thank you drama team for giving us something so fresh and original and beautiful ...and smart and useful and and LOL    .

So in todays posting i honour both Mamas. One mama , that had courage at that time and age to walk away for the sake of her children , that was a 100% courage badge . And YM's  mom, up till now i was not paying too much attention but seeing her wisdom and clarity in supporting her son's decision / options and improving it by her contribution, was so unexpected and beautiful. So both Mamas today get 100%  hug.

and our Comedy Duo , they really are a perfect couple ..."Be quick, my wife gets of at 5 pm "  LOL

Just finished ep12!

Spoiler

Female goddess arc was so fast, I wish they’d kept the part where she shoved the noodle to that guy’s face. That is one of the reason why female goddess left such an impression on QY

I love everytime YM changed his expression from :no_mouth: into :hushed: so fast, never fails to crack me up

Drama should have put more light hearted music imo, the ending score gives me melodrama vibe so much, like the scenes are two highschool students with their first romance awakening, but the music I hear seems like romeo and juliet bittersweet story. Unless that’s exactly what they’re going for :sweatingbullets:

The music, coupled with what we know will be a separation when he goes abroad, totally gives me "My Sunshine" (Silent Separation) vibes.  :D

Hey guys! I'm really enjoying this show and I'm so glad it's lived up to my months of waiting!! I just had a quick question and I'm not sure how to find out the answer: are these Wu Qian and Zhang Yujian's real voices or are they dubbed?

@themarchioness, thank you for confirming I didn’t miss any scenes. I did wonder if it’s the method of the storytelling or if I really forgot some scenes. I remembered WY left QY after they exited the bookstore and ran off to follow her ex-boyfriend when she saw him across the street apparently meeting up with another girl. That’s the last I saw of that storyline until the flashback in the episode yesterday.

Oh, so the stepdad didn’t exist in the novel? I’m glad they added him because the mom and him are interesting. It’s so funny to me to watch stepdad and the siblings whispering about who ticked off mom this time.  They’re hilarious.

@jadore1, so true about the two moms. QY’s mom didn’t hesitate to tell the awful husband how she intends to sell the house to pay for QY’s surgery. And she also left him to protect her kids. I’m also glad that step dad is a true father to them.

@celebrianna, nope, but the stepdad is a wonderful addition to the drama!  The nature of Yan Mo's family is also altered from the book.  There's a fair bit they're keeping the same/similar (the present day openings, for example, are more or less straight out of the book), but there's quite a bit they're either expanding on, changing, or moving around too.  There's only been one thing that they changed that I didn't like and wish they'd kept to the original (since it is so much better), and which I've already mentioned, but for the most part I don't mind the differences very much.  As noted, a lot of the alterations have been positive ones and even though the change to Yan Mo's family wasn't so positive, it works within the context of the drama so I accept it.

I really recommend the book.  It's short, cute, well-written, and one of my favorites.  :)

I just came here to say this. GUAN CHAO IS THE BEST BROTHER I HAVE EVER SEEN IN DRAMA OR REAL LIFE. Lol. Who else cried like a baby during that bench scene in 8th ep? I definitely did. I already loved him from the first ep but he keeps getting better and better with each passing ep and I can't even anymore. 8th ep was ultimate. I want to have Qiao Yi's life. She is blessed to have so many nice people around her. Her step dad, mom, Wu Yi, Yan Mo and of course Guan Chao...what a lucky girl....
