Lee Sung Kyung as  Choi Michaela

Choi Michaela is a professional musical actress who has the unfortunate fate

of being able to see a person’s lifespan. She accepts her fate and lives on,

until she meets and tries to hold onto Lee Do Ha.

9일 tvN 새 월화드라마 '멈추고 싶은 순간: 어바웃타임'(극본 추혜미, 연출 김형식, 이하 '어바웃타임') 측은 "이상윤, 이성경이 주인공으로 전격 캐스팅됐다"고 밝혔다.

'어바웃타임'은 타인과 자신의 수명시계를 보는 불운한 운명을 가진 여자와 손 하나 까딱 않고 그 여자의 시간을 멈춰버린 남자가 만나 사랑만이 구현할 수 있는 마법 같은 순간을 담아낸 판타지 로맨스다. 안방극장을 때로는 달콤함으로 때로는 진한 감동으로 물들일 '케미 폭발 운명 구원 로맨스'를 담아낸다.

탄탄한 연기 공력으로 여심을 사로잡고 있는 이상윤과 통통 튀는 연기력으로 대세 배우로 자리매김한 이성경은 이 작품에 함께 출연한다.

먼저 이상윤은 재벌가 문화재단 재단 이사장 이도하 역을 맡았다. 이도하는 완벽한 조건에 치명적인 눈빛까지, 너무 비현실적이라 늘 서늘함을 풍기는 인물. 도하는 자신도 모르게 최미카엘라의 수명시계를 멈추게 했다는 이유로 최미카엘라의 유혹과 협박, 그리고 심지어 귀여운 집착에 시달리게 된다.

이성경은 앙상블 전문 뮤지컬 배우 최미카엘라 역으로 나선다. 최미카엘라는 무심히 지나가던 사람들도 눈이 마주치면 한 번쯤 돌아보게 되는 싱그러운 매력을 가졌지만, 반면 타인과 자신의 수명시계를 보는 불운한 운명을 가진 인물. 불운한 운명을 받아들이며 살아가던 어느 날 자신의 수명시계를 멈추게 한 남자를 만나고 그를 붙잡기 위한 갖은 노력을 동원한다.

무엇보다 이상윤은 '두번째 스무살', '공항 가는 길', '귓속말' 등을 통해 매 작품마다 완벽한 캐릭터 몰입력으로 작품을 이끌어왔던 상황. 특유의 매력적인 중저음 보이스와 빨려 들어갈 듯한 눈망울로 매력을 발산해왔다. 특히 '어바웃타임'으로 '두번째 스무살'의 김형식 PD와 재회하게 된 이상윤이 모든 걸 내려놓고 사랑에 올인하는 남자의 모습을 어떻게 표현해낼지 궁금증을 높이고 있다.

또한 '치즈인더트랩', '닥터스'에서 통통 튀는 연기를 선보인 후 '역도요정 김복주'로 대세 배우로 자리매김한 이성경은 1년 만에 안방극장 복귀를 결정, 관심을 모으고 있다. 전작에서 체중까지 증량하며 역도선수 김복주를 상큼하게 표현했던 이성경이 이번 작품에서는 아픈 상처를 가지고 있지만 한없이 사랑스러운 최미카엘라 역으로 어떤 매력을 발산할지 이목이 집중되고 있다.

'어바웃타임' 제작사 측은 "'대세 배우' 이상윤과 이성경의 캐스팅으로 이미 드라마의 절반은 완성된 것 같다. '어바웃타임'을 통해 특별한 사랑에 빠질 이상윤과 이성경이 그려낼 마법 같은 사랑의 순간을 기대해달라"고 전했다. 

한편 '어바웃타임'은 '싸인', '유령', '수상한 가정부', '비밀의 문', '두 번째 스무살' 등을 통해 '웰메이드 수작'을 만들어냈던 김형식 PD가 2년 만에 선보이는 작품. 김 PD가 이상윤, 이성경과 함께 2018년 5월 또 어떤 특별한 사랑을 선보일지 귀추가 주목되고 있다. '어바웃타임'은 '시를 잊은 그대에게' 후속으로 오는 5월 방송된다.

YG Entertainment has confirmed that actress Lee Sung Kyung is in talks for the lead role in an upcoming tvN drama, “About Time.”

On November 27, representatives of the agency disclosed, “It’s true that she has received a casting offer for ‘About Time.'” They added, “She is grateful [for the offer] and is currently in the midst of discussions.”

“About Time” is a fantasy romance about a fresh-faced young musical actress who can see the life span of anyone who looks into her eyes. The female protagonist falls in love with an ordinary man who, despite having no supernatural powers, is able to stop and change her “time” through their relationship.

The drama will be helmed by Kim Hyung Shik, the director behind “Twenty Again,” “Ghost,” “Sign,” and “Secret Door.”

Should Lee Sung Kyung accept the role, it will be her first drama since “Weightlifting Fairy Kim Bok Joo.” The drama is expected to go into production after casting decisions have been finalized.

I’ve been interested in this drama since it was first announced, because the concept sounds like a wonderful mix of the romantic and the supernatural, and I’m happy to hear that it’s being planned for a broadcast next year on tvN. About Time is about a heroine who has the gift (or curse) of seeing how long a person has left to live, and a man who magically makes her time stop when they fall in love. Lee Sung-kyung, who was delightful in the coming-of-age drama Weightlifting Fairy Kim Bok-ju, is being courted to headline and is considering the project favorably.

The leading role that Lee Sung-kyung has been offered is a beautiful musical actress who can see the “life clocks” of everyone around her except her own, and is described as having an unfortunate fate. She’ll meet a man who isn’t a supernatural being or gifted with any special powers, but somehow he’ll magically stop her life clock from advancing. And based on their love, that time will stop, or extend, or vanish altogether. The drama will be about those “magical moments that only love can save.”

The series comes from a rookie writer and PD Kim Hyung-shik of Twenty Again, and though the story is very different, I can see it tackling similar themes of embracing life to the fullest when you might have a limited time left to live. I’m pleased that Lee Sung-kyung has been offered the main character in another heroine-centric drama as well, and judging from the plot descriptions, it sounds like my kind of show already. Now, who to cast as her time-stopping, heart-stealing leading man…

About Time is being planned for a Monday-Tuesday slot in 2018.

In another case of a drama that slipped right by me, I only found out about the aforementioned "About Time" as I saw this piece of news last night. Lee Sang-yoon and Lee Sung-kyung have confirmed their roles as the leads to this romantic fantasy drama and while you may be rolling your eyes in a "not another time travel one" fashion, you may be as surprised as I was about the premise of this one.

"About Time" is less about moving in said time and more about witnessing and manipulating it. Witnessing it is its heroine, Choi Michaella (Lee Sung-kyung). Michaella is a musical actress with the unfortunate power of seeing people's lifespan. I'm not sure what that entails, but I imagine that seeing the tick tock of a life clock is quite depressing, especially when it's shorter than you would expect or want for a person. When she discovers a man who can "pause" her own lifespan, Michaella does everything she can to have him.

Lee Sang-yoon plays said fellow gifted man. His name is Lee Do-ha and he is the chief of a conglomerate-owned cultural foundation. He's got the looks, the skills and the coolness that impresse others. He's unaware of his ability to freeze Michaela's lifespan, which will surely create a lot of confusion when she aggressively pursues him with a wide range of methods, from the cutesy to the downright threatening.

I wonder why she does, by the way. Does he pause her own life clock or can he pause her ability? Does she just want to live forever and start harassing some poor dude to make it happen or is there more to it? Perhaps his power is to obscure her view of people's mortality, which could very well include her own. Whichever the case, it is a fresh and welcome concept to the good ol' time travel, so that's a plus to the good casting. I think the two actors will be quite adorable together.

Romance-wise, this sounds like a "Master's Sun" type of motivation for her and I'm already worrying about the trampling of consent that may take place. Then again, perhaps the aggressive pursuit will only be an introductory episode type of deal, before the two have an honest talk about how they can help each other without ambushing war tactics involved.

I will be keeping an eye on this one as we learn more about the characters and story. "About Time" is directed by Kim Hyeong-sik, known for dramas such as "Sign", "Ghost - Drama", "Secret Door" and "Twenty Again". It will air sometime in May, following "A Poem a Day" on tvN.

I hope the director and the scriptwriter don't imitate the method style of pursuing by Gong hyo jin in master sun. I feel giddy to think how the cold and charismatic Lee Do Ha try to make a distance from the beautiful seducer.

tvN’s new fantasy romance drama tells the story of a woman who has the ability to see people’s life expectancies as well as her own, and a man who is able to pause the countdown to the end of the woman’s life. The 2018 drama is set to portray sweetness, deep emotion, and lots of chemistry.

Lee Sung Kyung stars as Choi Michaela, a professional musical actress who has the unfortunate fate of being able to see a person’s lifespan. She accepts her fate and lives on, until she meets and tries to hold onto Lee Do Ha.

Lee Sang Yoon’s character Lee Do Ha is the chairman of a cultural foundation and is described to have perfect qualifications, a cold vibe, as well as a killer gaze. Do Ha is unaware of his ability, and ends up getting pestered by Michaela’s attempts to seduce, threaten, and even cutely obsess over him.

The production team stated, “With popular actors Lee Sang Yoon and Lee Sung Kyung joining the cast, it feels like the drama is already set. Please look forward to a magical love that will unfold between Lee Sang Yoon and Lee Sung Kyung.”

PD Kim Hyung Sik, who has directed dramas such as “Sign,” “Ghost,” “The Suspicious Housemaid,” “Secret Door,” and “Twenty Again,” will be heading the project. The drama “About Time” is set to air sometime in May of this year on tvN.
